  1. The White Sox lead the AL in being shutout... We lead in something!
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) spark. What is the ignition source of fire sale, Alex?
  3. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) Minus MacDougal and that's actually a trade I have thought about as well for Mark. That and to St. Louis for Colby Rasmus and Jaime Garcia. But Salty and Escobar or to a lesser extent Lillibridge would solve two positions of need for the future. I don't think Buehrle is enough to bring back Salty and Escobar. I seem to doubt they'd trade salty for 2 months of anyone, even if he was the best pitcher available. Rasmus would be a nice get, but that trade would probably give us two guys who shouldn't be counted on to stick at the majors until '09. Though, admittedly, I don't really know anything about Garcia. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:44 PM) I think targeting a SS and C would be a wonderful idea (not that I think Uribe and AJ are actually the biggest problems on the club by a long shot). But those positions are so hard to fill, getting talented young players locked in would be great for the long term health of the franchise. It also makes AJ tradeable, and despite his reputation I think he could bring a decent prospect in return. I do think it's not enough for the Braves -- I doubt they trade Salty for Mark and Mac let alone add in Escobar. Maybe the Sox could throw in Gio and Anderson. Or maybe just do Buehrle/Mac/Jenks for Salty/Escobar. Buehrle/Mac/Jenks would get it done for sure. Jenks has tons of value.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) I'll give you credit for coming up with a somewhat reasonable trade idea that doesn't involve the Devil Rays or Angels. I'm so sick of seeing the names Crawford, Baldelli, Santana and Aybar. You want somewhat reasonable? How about Buehrle and MacDougal for Saltalamcchia and Yunel Escobar? Probably not enough to get it done, and I don't really know what to make of Escobar. I just know that ATL would probably be willing to trade him with Renterria/Lillibridge and another 18 yo SS that they really love. Salty they want to leverage for a real need, but with Smoltz, Hudson, and Gonzalez hurt, Buehrle will be the best starter available and MacDougal has good stuff.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Other then Cameron playing in 59 of SD's 60 games? Cruz can still throw, I know that, and looking at his stats, he has 3 steals and 2 triples as well so far. Cruz had 9 triples and 25 SB's just last year, did he really lose that much speed in a year? Anyways, it was just a hypothetical trade to get other Sox fan's opinions. I know Mark's value is very high, I wanted to see what you guys think Jermaine's value is at this point. He plays in Petco. That place is huge. Konerko and AJ might have a triple if they played half there games there. That's why he can't play CF. Towers wants an elite defender, not just a good one, to patrol CF to keep his team in the games in that place. I just looked up the stats because that didn't sound right. Cruz, a platoon player, had 1 triple and 5 stolen bases last year not 9 and 25.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) Jose Cruz would take over in CF with Dye in left or right field with Giles in the other. Can you imagine the # of triples in that OF? Lazy flyballs FTW!
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) I posted this in a different thread, but I'll post it here as well... Adam Melhuse was traded today by the A's to Texas (Chris Stewart getting sent down I guess) and Kurt Suzuki was called up. I know some people wanted him instead of Lucy. Suzuki's not ready, but it's hard to be worse than Kendall's .197/.242/.207... If Suzuki comes up to be a backup, that's a big mistake for Oakland. If he's up, he's got to be splitting time 50/50. The bar isn't very high to eclipse Kendall's production.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Now I'm concerned about the velocity for Jenks. His pitch speed was way down today. He shouldn't be sitting in the 91-92 mph range. Also....what is the point of having Gonzalez on the bench? He might be the most useless roster member we've ever had. Jenks pitched on back-to-back days for the first time in 3 weeks, allowing as many hits in one inning as he had in the previous 40 days. If anything you could argue that he just wasn't used to being called upon so quickly[/i]. I mean you can't expect a guy to throw 18 pitches in two days and not see a drop in velocity.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) Anyone know who Jerry Krause is working for now? I just took the elevator down with him. Man does he breathe heavy. Mets
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Shelby has been ridiculous this past week or so. It would be nice to have a MI prospect with some upside. I like Shelby, but don't expect him to continue at this rate. He's unsustainably hot right now. 9 of the last 10 times he's made contact, he's gotten a hit, and 5 of those were for extra-bases.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Danks about to walk Scott before Lee. They really need to work on his mechanics to keep him from flying open and then falling off the mound. Ha, even when we get a good throw, we still can't get the guy out. AJ must really suck at those plays. He needs to stay closer to the plate. I'm late, but it looked like AJ thought that throw was going to beat pence by a mile. He was in a terribly unathletic position when he fielded it with his left leg underneath his ass. and looked up the line as if he thought he would have Pence by 20 feet.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) Mackowiak continues to have good at-bats. Owens continues to show he should have stuck with football. Why? He couldn't have made the NFL. He probably couldn't have made the AFL or CFL. He made it to the major leagues in baseball. He may not be any good, but he made it.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) How does Molina look at 3rd? Round and pudgy
  14. Monroe from Schaumburg is a solid Duke commit. I've never seen him and I don't follow HS baseball, but my parents are friends with his parents, so I my dad excitedly called me to tell me he was drafted by the Sox.
  15. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) BlueJays already finished drafting before the 36th round? Weird. So if you haven't figured out our draft strategy yet, it's apparently draft tallest pitchers available and smallest infielders available. Piranha's and projectable tall pitchers I suppose. There's no draft-and-follow this year, which probably took up about 5-10 spots for every team. Teams stop drafting in the early 40's in the past, so 36 doesn't seem like such a stretch now.
  16. he better have an off-the-chart GB/FB ratio if they expect a guy with his college strikeout rate to succeed in the majors.
  17. I predict 1 bomb off Danks 1 off Thornton and 1 off Garland
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Heh, I was thinking about Wasserman. That's terribly depressing. Do you think the Sox would even consider Egbert as a reliever? Not unless he's the "long man" in place of Massett, who seems to take little heat despite pitching poorly way more often than not.
  19. I need to ask the question, Who would you rather have facing A-Rod? Bukvich, Prinz, Wasserman (held righties to sub-.560 OPS in each of the last three seasons, including batting .109 this season in Charlotte), or Egbert (2HR allowed in his last 230 innings pitched) (Obviously none is a great option)
  20. White Sox have been outscored 89-44 in their last 14 games, going 3-11. They weren't a good team before then, maybe you could say they were mediocre. After this stretch, I don't know how anyone can claim this is anything but a BAD team.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Please, idiots, don't run onto the field. I don't want to have to read about it in the Tribune tomorrow. Especially when they probably didn't mention the fans running after Ramirez last week. (I wouldn't know I don't read their Cubs articles.)
  22. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) I really like Gartrell. Former SF Don, just like our #1 pick.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) They should go to rapid fire picks, and take a 10 minute break every 10 picks or so so ESPN can feel they are a part of it. This is a good idea, which is why you don't work for ESPN.
