Kobe guarantees win in game 5

Nothing yet, but I'm sure Baseball America will break it down at some point. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/colle...postseason.html

I agree that going after it is a natural reaction. WHEN IT'S IN THE AIR. Once it hits the ground, that's a completely different story. I've gotten 3 balls this year. 2 were BP balls. The other was a Konerko HR. When I caught the Konerko HR, I already had a BP ball that day. I pocketed the Konerko ball, and tossed the BP ball to a little girl who was a couple of rows back. She didn't know the difference. She was happy. I've spent at least part of every game that I've been to this year in the outfield. There have been about 5 balls hit during the game within "diving distance" of me, yet I remained at my seat every time. The Idiots move wasn't going after the ball, it was the manner in which he went after the ball. Once the ball was on the ground in the row in front of him, there was no reason for him to leave his seat.

Disheartening Article: Magglios GAWN in 05.
Gene Honda Civic replied to Flash Tizzle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
23 pages of speculation surrounding a guy who in February said he wanted to test the free-agent waters. :headshake What else is new here? -
I was thinking the same thing earlier this week. But After I thought about it for a little bit, it seemed to make more sense. Take a look. Reason #1) Mark Buehrle --In 2000 He was lights out at B'ham also. Got the call-up, was light out from the pen. Moved to the rotation. Lights out again. Reason #2) Jon Garland -- Lights out in AAA, gets called up. He was the youngest pitcher in the majors that year. Reason #3) Kip Wells -- When he was called up in 99, he was dominant over those few starts. He was up and down in 2000, at times dominant, othertimes wild and supremely hittable. Reason #4) Jon Rauch -- I have him at #4, but really he is reason #1 why Ginter ended up in the pen. In 2000 Rauch projected to be a top of the rotation guy, who would likely make his Chicago debut in 2001. -- MB is the only guy listed so far who, in 2000, didn't project to be a front-of-the-rotation-type guy. Reason #5) The 2000 starting rotation. Baldwin, Parque, and Sirotka were all due back, and looked like a solid base to the rotation for years to come. Parque was only 24, and was property of the sox for plenty more years. Reason #6) Hoover Met is a Pitchers park. Ginters 2000 numbers at AA should be adjusted. Sadly every year, we see some prospect put up great numbers at the Met, and think he is the next coming. Its the ballpark more often than not though. http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/bp/789556.html This article points to how many thought the sox were on the cusp of greatness in 2000. Sadly that wasn't the case. Simply put, in 2000, the sox had the best stockpile of young arms in baseball. They had the luxury of turning a #1 pick into a reliever becasue they had plenty of other arms in the rotation who already projected better than Ginter. --------------------------------- I'm happy that a change of scenery seems to have done Matt some good, and wish him the best in the future.

Supposedly, as I heard on the radio, Sandy came into the clubhouse on sunday and told Ozzie "he couldn't go today". See the above post. Borchard > Timo. When Maggs comes back, ship that lazy bastard out of town.
-
Borchard>Timo Timo is king of the ground ball, can't hit LHP, or hit a line-drive to save his life. Have some stats. (scroll down to get to the sox.) Timo hits more GB's than Willie, and has the lowest "Line-Drive %" on the team. Not to mention the lazy plays we routinely see out of him. The one-handed-barely-got-there-cuz-I'm-too-cool-to-run-hard-catches. I've never seen Carlos Lee dog it to a ball like I have Timo. I'm tired of him. Borchard provides a solid power bat in the lineup, Can hit from both sides of the plate, and will undoubtedly play a less lackadazical outfield. Sure he may hit .250, so what. Timo's hitting the same thing. Borchard will give you a few more RBI's just by the longball. And this game is about scoring runs, not looking pretty.

I think he should get called up. That doesn't mean he will. I've been saying it for about a week, but with Sandy unable to go on sunday, and Jamie Burke's performance that day, I don't see anyone being sent down. I would like to see his power bat in the OF to help replace the half of the PK/FT platoon we're going to see at 1B.

So you can take your date to Chuck E. Cheese's and not get strange looks.

A couple of Mr Zero's posts in another thread made me want to start another post. I think this deserves it's own topic. I have some questions about the way he is being handled. He doesn't seem to be being used in the best way possible for this team. He's 25. will turn 26 in the middle of the season. But Olivo has shown great improvement this year. That 10 pitch AB in the 4th inning the other day really showed how much hes grown. I still think there is room for him to grow. But let's take a look at some numbers. 2003 RHP LHP Sandy .284 .223 Mo .212 .302 2004 RHP LHP Sandy .271 .308 Mo .192 .459 Miguel has destroyed LHP this year, after hitting above .300 vs. LHP for a full season last year. But he has been lightly used this year. Ozzy seems to have Sandy catching both lefties (MB & SS) and Mo catching the righties (EL & JG) regarless of the opposing pitcher. Last year Mo got 317 AB's. Currently he is only on pace to take 315. WHY???? He is destroying his offensive output from last season. He should sit in favor of sandy if we're facing a tough righty, or MB is out on the hill, but he should play every other friken' day. From May17th - June 13th last season he played in every single game. (meaning he at least PH or PR or came in as a defensive sub for someone.) That's practically a one month stretch. This year his longest streak of playing everyday is 5 games. WHY???? He has as many HR's this year as he had all of last season. Has stolen one less base than last season. Has lowered his BB/K ratio (1:4 in '03 compared to 1:3 this year) Has increased his OPS by .200 points. Has only 3 less RBI's than last season. This kid needs to play more often. ------------------------------------ Here's something else I don't think anyone else brought it up The teams long term "ace" doesn't particular like throwing to him. He would rather throw to a AAAA player. This quote was glossed over by everybody after sundays victory, where Jamie Burke played admirably.

should be in maimi tomorrow.

Reading is not the plague. You should try it one time. Also 235 pitches isn't that much. It's certainly not the record for pitches thrown in game. Those of you that missed out on reading the rest of the article missed the point. There's a lot more than just pitch counts that has changed in baseball. Many of which were highlighted in the passage.

If Carlos continues, he will be the biggest thing
Gene Honda Civic replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
in general the national media doesn't take notice of a long hit streak until you get halfway to Dimaggio. Carlos should expect some big pub if he can extend the streak through the next game. That way he's halfway to DiMaggio, and is the sole record holder for the white sox, who've been around for 100+ years. -
Name another team where you would see the GM and star Right Fielder sitting with the fans in centerfield? Class move today by KW and Maggs to take in part of the game from the Fan Deck.
