  6. Oh it's official, the bears site has a link introducing him.. and there is a news conference scheduled for noon tomorrow.
  7. Bush must have his friends over at Halliburton running this thing.
  8. Yeah, you're probably right. The young and old extremes would probably be more likely to be in favor of a ban. I realize this is a generalization. The only group where I would expect a greater proportion against the ban is from about the 20-40 age group. And the younger part of that age group doesn't vote en mass. I guess I would like to see a simillar poll only from those who actually vote.
  9. To that. On another note, I hadn't checked this poll in a few days, and was surprised to see it currently sitting in favor a gay marriage ban. By a rather wide margin. I hope this is just because the is a large contingent of young posters on this site... I know when I was younger (read HS) I would have preached on about how it's not natural or rationalized my "YES" vote in some other way. In reality, I was just an ignorant homophobic young kid. I've grown up, some, only a little bit though , over the years. The government shouldn't be able to legislate your sexuallity. What you do in the confines of your own bedroom is your own business.
  10. Just watched these two videos from forbes... Video: New Ballparks Boost Team Valuations Video: Baseball Teams Network Their Way To Success The first one is interesting because... I don't think the parnership with US cellular, and thus stadium upgrades, was figured into the White Sox value. The second mentioned the white sox probably starting a network.. But that's already happened, in conjuction with the other chicago teams.. So that also increases the value/ hides revenue from the revenue sharing agreement.
  11. when you buy a sports franchise nowdays you are for the most part over paying... look at the figures on that page.. teams bought in the late nineties and beyond are bought for much more than the "franchise value" for that same year.
  12. Since not all figures are released, The forbes figures probably error on the high/profit side. The figurs are estimates based on public documents. So take everything for what its worth.
  13. Yeah good choice in TV... I'm not convinced... The coordinators make or break this Hire.
  14. Haven't chimed in on this subject yet because I was doing the research... Here are the most recent Franchise values for all the Major Sports MLB Franchise values --(as of 4/28/03) NFL Franchise Values -- (as of 8/29/03) Scroll down NHL Franchise Values -- (as of 12/08/03) NBA Franchise Value -- Scroll way down An old list from ESPN listing all the franchises together. The NBA one is the most telling... It says that JR bought the bulls in 85 for only $9MIL and today they are worth over $300MILL..There's no way jerry's selling. not when he could have already cashed in the bulls at over a 3000% return.
  15. The IOC's regulations are nothing compared to those in place for cycling. I'm a cyclist, and follow the European race scene as closely as I do White Sox baseball, and I can assure you that cyclists are the most tested athletes in the world. The UCI's suspensions may not be as harsh as the IOC, but 1 positive test will still make you ineligble foro competition for a calendar year. A typical day on the Tour de France will see 25-30 people tested of the 189 riders to start. Top 10 finishers on the day Top 3 in overall standing Top 3 in standings of three different categories Plus random tests of about 10% of the remaining riders. That number goes up if positive tests are found. Over 24 days that means everyone is tested, multiple times. Lance Armstrong has been tested, on average, over the last five years, 17 out of the 24 days on the tour. Cycling is a small sport that doesn't make a lot of money for anyone involved. And they have found the resources to make it the cleanest sport around because they can't live with the perception that it's not an honest competition. Baseball, on the other hand, makes everyone rich but the fans. Why would they want to change that with lower homerun totals and less fan interest?
  16. smart women These things started popping up about 3 months ago... I bid on the very first one, back when I thought it was funny. Now theres pages of them. I guess they still make money.
  17. since the smilies are out in full force today. Check the filename if you don't get it.
  18. Like we didn't know that that Rage-a-holic was on the juice. The surprising thing is why he is admitting it. What does he have to gain.
  19. absolutley... he'd be good for at least another 5-8 homers on the year.
