You're the GM. Firesale is the plan.

QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) id first try for PK, crede and broadway for Jered Weaver, Kotchman, Kendrick, and Willits, tell me what ya guys think??? You forgot to turn on the "fair trades" option on your XBox -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Yes it could have. The Sox could have protected Hernandez, or signed Wing even. Either would have been better than Andy G taking up a slot. But, this sure does look like a prelude to a move. I think it looks like the post-script to a failed FA signing.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Here is another option: Jason Tyner. How about one of the little piranhas coming over to join the White Sox and help out in CF. I don't know how good he can be or is, but he always played good against us and was non-tendered by the Twins. What do you guys think about him?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) I guess you and I are reading 2 different things then. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3026151 Yeah, way to quote his agent talking about his great ability... Meanwhile, he's got what(?) 1 hit in the DWL, where Oneli Perez is a premier closer.

QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) You know what this kind of reminds me of... when the Patriots got Randy Moss people were like "oh, I don't know if Moss is any good still, he might be a distraction" and well we see how that worked out. It was a low-risk, high-reward kind of deal that worked out. Moss is a terrible comparison. For every person who was "like 'oh, I don't know if Moss is any good still, he might be a distraction,'" there was a smarter person with a memory who was "like 'remember when Moss actually cared about footbal. He was really good. I bet he cares again as soon as he puts on a Pats uni. The Pats are the team to beat again.'" Prior, meanwhile has been plagued by random injuries, finally going under the knife this year. If Prior could turn on hot and cold running awesome like Moss, he wouldn't have spent the better part of the last 3 seasons throwing towels in Iowa. Sure he might recover, but a recovery is far less likely than Randy Moss being interested in catching touchdowns and breaking records for the best team football has ever seen.

Gonzalez #24 on MiLB's Top 50 Prospects
Gene Honda Civic replied to Calderon's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....food-for-t.html Phil Rogers makes the Sox list. If Carter is 6, and is "the Sox best position prospect," that means there are 5 pitchers in front of him.... Gio and DLS are obvious. (and all who I'd rank ahead of Carter/Cunningham) but I struggle to come up with 3 more who are arguably better prospects than the Arizona duo. You could argue Egbert based on numbers, but most BA writers don't think he has much of a ceiling. Back-of-the-rotation candidate... You could argue Poreda based on his draft position and the high upside of a 97MPH lefty ( I wouldn't, but you could) After that, you've got nothing.... Broadway? McCulloch? Haeger? Russell? The only logical name you can throw ahead of Carter along with Gio, DLS, Egbert, and Poreda is Sweeney, which seemingly by definition makes him the Sox top position prospect. -
Kenny not worried about Danks & Floyd as #4 & 5
Gene Honda Civic replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) See Gavin Floyd September 2004. Unfortunately his September numbers meant didley in 2005,2006 and 2007. It would be unwise to count on anything from him, just be pleasantly surprised if you get anything. 2004 Floyd was a wide-eyed rookie who walked 16 in 24 innings... Those are numbers which predicted future demise, assuming the BB/9 didn't improve. 2007 Floyd was a next-to-last-chance former top prospect, who was finally unafraid of the strike zone. He walked 19 in 70 innings, including 15 over his last 64 innings when he was on the roster full-time. You can certainly argue about what his upside may be. And I'd argue against KW calling him (both he and Danks, really) top of the rotation guys. But as long as he's going to pound the zone, with his curveball, he's going to miss enough bats (6-7 K/9) to be an effective mid-to-back of the rotation starter, starting next season. -
Gonzalez #24 on MiLB's Top 50 Prospects
Gene Honda Civic replied to Calderon's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(Calderon @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) I don't think this warrants its own thread, so I assume this is the proper place to put it since we've talked about prospect rankings, but Aaron Cunningham was named the #7 prospect in the Arizona system by Baseball America. With some guy named Chris Carter #8.... They'd rank 3, 4 in the Sox system. -

Pam Ward is a dumb, dumb, man.... -
They made Todd Collins look good. Kerry Collins would have looked good tonight.
-
They're just shooting bloody stumps now
-
Do the bears have any feet left to shoot?
-
My God. This is so bad... /And Berrian goes and makes a spectacular play.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) I meant to ask you, why do you like the Patriots? easy to fap to

jesus... The Bears are bad, but you've got to call a block in the back on that play

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) I'd love to see how any of these pieces could do with an actual Offensive line. I'd love to have seen how Grossman could have performed, with Benson behind him and these receivers, if they had an O-Line that was performing well. It's always struck me as remarkable how many deficiencies a good O-Line can mask. Except for Griese. Seriously, don't you bench him after that one? I believe Grossman had really grown. He was hard to evaluate without a line, running game, and one legit reciever (Moose is old and slow). In terms of draft need from least to most urgent TE C WR QB (I have to hear a prognosis on Grossman first. If he's done for the season, this is higher/lower) T RB G

Touchdown Greise!!! I mean Redskin
-
The NFL should have moved this game to Sunday
-
3rd and 13 and they're throwing a 3-yard pass.... again. /I understand that it has to do with the O-line getting pantsed on every blitz
-
f***. I'm not even a Grossman fan, but I wanted him to play the rest of the season. Screw Greise, put in Orton.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) Yep. That's a down year for Konerko and a good year for Kotchman. Go figure. Oh yeah, it's also the first time Kotchman has put up any numbers like that, whereas Konerko has surpassed that .839 OPS 8 times in his career. Care to explain Kotchman's Ervin Santana-like splits and how they would help the White Sox who don't play 81 games in Anaheim? Your first baseman is supposed to be a slugger and run producer. That OBP is a one year event and most of it was due to his numbers in Anaheim. That OBP is exactly what you'd expect from a guy who posted a .400 OBP in the minors. Kotchman is extremely comparable to the 23-24 year old Konerko who also struggled initially after being one of the top prospects in baseball. Kotch just had a lost season last year due to Mono. Kotchman probably will never be more than a 20-25 HR guy, but he'll find a way to get on base at a .400 clip in his prime, which, unlike Konerko, is in the not-to-distant future, and his defense is about 15-20 runs better than Konerko's.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Sure there's stuff he could have done. It's not like Rubelo is a big prospect. He could have traded Crede for a catching prospect. Of course, we would have had a lot more to trade with if not for the stupid, in hindsight, Garland for a one year SS when we already have Uribe on the books. Or, you know, we could have drafted one in 2004...

Philosophical change was needed as soon as the inevitable decline was seen in the second half of '06.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Wow, this might be the funniest post of the night (no offense) You have to admit, the winter meetings, and the craziness that has surrounded them this year, has resulted in some great unintentional comedy already.... And we've got another day and a half!

QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Is Corey Hart still on the Brewers? If so, i could see him in this deal more than Hall Yeah 4 (or 5?) cost controlled years from a nearly .900 OPS outfielder is worth a year of Crede.... Is there still a headshaking smilie?
