Twins close to acquiring Delmon Young
Gene Honda Civic replied to SoxFan1's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) There's just a slight difference in ability between Garza and Floyd. Maybe Danks. The huge difference is Bartlett to Uribe.... Bartlett has been a better defensive SS than Uribe the last two seasons, while posting far better OBPs. Oh and he makes about $4M less. -
Miscellaneous "MLB" Trade Notes
Gene Honda Civic replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) A little more information on that deal: Twins would receive: Delmon Young Brendan Harris Jason Pridie Rays would receive: Matt Garza Jason Bartlett Juan Rincon Source Wow, including bartlett is retarded from the Twins perspective. He's a much better SS than Harris. Pridie was a guy who the Twins took in the Rule 5 a couple of years ago, but had to return. Looks like they overvalue him too. -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) forget about it! especially, since we have the best #2 hitter in baseball in Orlando Caberera. There's no arguing with that. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) Old people, I need your advice. So I had an interview w/ hertz at the beginning of the month. The guy really liked me and kind of told me that I would get offered the job. He said look out for a phone call, etc. He also said I could work there over christmas break if I wanted to. The problem is that he thought I was graduating in december, not may. That got straightened out early on though. I haven't heard from them since this interview. My question is, would it be ok to call him up and ask him what my status is? What the progress of their job search is? etc Because I feel like I have this job and I just don't want to do anything to screw it up. But on the other hand, I don't want to count on something I don't have. I'm not old... But I would have talked to him about working over Christmas break when I was home for Thanksgiving. You should still do the same... Just keep the contact. You'll probably have to re-interview in Spring, but if you keep in their mind by doing some grunt work between now and then, sounds like the job is yours.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) I'd rather have this deal for Wood than Linebrink's deal. Ditto... Add the names Timlin, Percival, and Foulke.

Happiness. It was not on sale, but surprisingly inexpensive.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 11:44 PM) The Brewers lost Linebrink and Cordero. They may be desperate for a reliever now. Maybe somebody like MMac in a package for Hall? The Brewers will now have more top 75 picks in the 2008 draft than the Sox have had in the last 3.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) Wow. Just wow. I feel bad for people who don't watch college football, or worse yet, prefer the NFL. I still think they should start at about the 45, where you need to get a first down to get a field goal, in OT. But, otherwise, yeah. -

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 06:57 PM) Nope! A lot of those points came in OT, though. And the announcers are just dead silent on the air after the INT. Arkansas is not your average unranked opponent... I'd love to see an Arkansas-Hawaii game. Score might be 50-49 at half. I can't believe Mizzou or Kansas will have a legit claim to #1 at the end of the night. -

The #1 team in the country just gave up 50 points to an unranked opponent.... They'll still probably win -

Does anyone even know what a save opportunity is? I'll give you a hint, you don't have to be a closer or pitch in the 9th inning to pitch in a Save Opp. -

Torii Hunter signs with LAA Angels
Gene Honda Civic replied to joejoesox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 02:16 AM) I think this acquisition basically makes Miguel Cabrera a lock to go to the Angels. Which makes it essentially impossible for the White Sox to call themselves contenders even based on their NAME PLAYERS on their roster... (I say NAME PLAYERS because that seems to be what the White Sox covet over actual talent or a future worth a darn.) They can't compete with the Yankees. They can't compete with the Red Sox They can't compete with the Angels They can't compete with the Tigers The Indians are Twins are younger and have zero terrible contracts on board. Heck, even the Royals seem more upwardly mobile than the current Sox. Sad, sad day in White Sox land. (And I didn't even want Hunter to come here) -

I see what you're seeing, but the link only goes to his player page.... It takes about 2 minutes to type a couple of paragraphs and get them posted online... Perhaps someone is at MLBAM is having some fun while his bosses are away for the holiday? Doesn't make sense. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Broadway had significant control problems in AAA last season (4.5 BB per 9 innings pitched). It's true he was working on a new pitch, but you can't cont on him to throw strikes right now. Including his 10 innings in the bigs last season, Broadway had some decent numbers (peripherals) after the break. 71.2 IP, 69H, 7 HR, 33BB, 70K but only a 5.05 ERA.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) The Trib article about Hunter, Uribe and the other topical discussions dropped an interesting tidbit near the bottom. Pablo Ozuna has been playing shortstop in the Dominican League. As I recall, he started as a shortstop. Seems like maybe they are seeing if he can be a backup there. Yet another indicator that Uribe is likely not long for the team. He's been playing DH. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) I think Armstrong was protected because of his years in - looks like he might have become a free agent otherwise. 4.5 years in service, minor leagues, by my count. Lucas Harrell, though, looks like he has only 3 years in, then was out injured in 07. So I am not sure why he needs to be protected. Pods DFA, Egbert on 40 = good news. WHY THE f*** IS BOURGEOIS NOT ON THE 40?!?! 6 years = minor league free agent... Harrell was 19 (by a few days) when he was drafted, so even though he was taken out of HS in the same year as Gio, he gets a year less protection under the new CBA.

QUOTE(southsida86 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 12:19 AM) Wasn't he pretty good in AAA in the Rangers system? I'm sure he had issues with adjusting to being a starter again and confidence when he got sent down in July. I'm sure he had to pitch pretty well there if he got a shot with the Rangers. No. Masset's career WHIP in AAA is 1.49, which matches his 1.52 in AA, and predictably works out to a 1.85 in the majors.
-
AAAA pitchers, by definition are good in AAA.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) Rex tried too hard to make something happen..... 1st down on the 31, shoulda threw it out of bounds. Otherwise, he has been great. Rex didn't know where his outlet receiver was. It was a play action to the left, with Benson leaking out to the left side. After going through his progression, Grossman looked out in the flat to the right and when he didn't find Benson he took off running.
-
I love that at halftime Howie Long and Jimmy Johnson say "The Bears are a running team." And 4 minutes into the second half, the Seahawks have 24 points and Cedric Benson has 5 touches.
