The White Sox cannot be fixed by next season
South Side Hit Men replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This kid is really solid. Then again, so is Colas. Sad for him, Colas isn't a team where performance and winning matters more than 2029 arbitration hearings. 2022 Minor League Statistics (Both players are 24 years old) Colas 113 Games, 507 PA, .309 BA, .367 OBP, .510 SLG, .877 OPS Brennan 129 Games, 590 PA, .314, BA, .369 OBP, .479 SLG, .850 OPS -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Major_League_Baseball_draft You gain 1-2% tops between their likely window of 12th through 18th place. Wonder if the draft lotteries will be fixed like the NBA version. (Manfred reaches for the frozen envelope, and the New York Knicks get the #1 draft pick rights to Patrick Ewing). https://www.si.com/longform/2015/1985/ewing/index.html -
Yes, it's a pipedream, but it would make sense if Eloy had any athletic abilities beyond hitting a baseball. I guess they will spend 2023 (or 2024/2025) developing Vaughn at 1B depending on Abreu's status.

The Sox will never run short on f*** yous to their dwindling fan base. -
Not sure his bat will hold up over a full season, but he is by far the most capable fielding shortstop on the roster. Bounce Tim out to CF, where he's better suited to play in his 30s and your defense would be strong next season (Colas, Anderson, Robert from left to right). Moncada, Andrus, Free Agent, Vaughn/Eloy/ Abreu @ 1B. Still would work Eloy at first to see if that is something he can do. Not sure Vaughn will work out defensively there. Both are going to need to work hard at it to be at least capable 1B.

Porque no los dos. While coaching would have improved certain areas, but no amount of coaching would make Sheets and Vaughn major league capable corner outfielders, and beyond Colas which they are slow rolling to the majors, there are no alternatives because Hahn has no capable "guys". Ditto all the old stale expensive relievers he accumulated.

I don't have a Twitter account. He never followed through on this or many other arrogant statements or the hundreds of douchebag tweet attacks on Sox fans. No quality organization would want someone who is allegedly here to entertain fans and promote their product to tweet as he has. Then again, no quality team would hire a recidivist criminal octogenarian 10 years out of managing. The Sox should wave goodbye to Stone's ass just like the Cubs, it would be a fitting end to his stay here. Also, there would be nothing left to stay about Tony if Tony was gone for good. But there are no indications he plans to leave. All reports indicate he will continue to f*** over the Chicago White Sox, just in a different capacity, just as he did to the Arizona Diamondbacks. And Tony will be able to meddle from home indefinitely, unlike managing where the odds were he can/could not continue physically with the travel and other job demands. So if you liked Joe Kelly, Adam Eaton, Leury Garcia, Big Energy, Pollock and others, you are in luck. There will be plenty more future Sox just like them if Tony continues to have personnel input.

Agreed, give him what he wants. 1 year contract, future opportunities like Kenny had in the FO, perhaps in the dugout or working with Paddy in the Caribbean. A new project like youth player outreach. Give him a year or two space to figure it out. Just keep him involved if he has ANY interest in helping the organization. No player here in my lifetime (50+ years) loved the White Sox as much as Jose has. None.

f*** you Detroit. I only made the game thread because it was a few minutes before game time, and I wanted to have a chance to salvage my 2022 Game Thread record. At this point, wouldn't mind if they lose their remaining road games and finish under .500, because that is the record this organization, Rick and Tony deserve on their permanent records.

If I'm Miami, I try to recruit him to play and promise a transition to the FO or coaching, build a Cuban connection in Miami (Soler is their only current Cuban on the 40 man roster). Give Jose what he wants, make it happen. He won't say stupid s%*# praising Castro or the dictatorship like Ozzie. I would do the same here, the Sox will find a way to f*** it up.

There was rumored interest last year (Ng interested in Eloy and Mercedes) so that's what I'm going off of. Eloy can still DH for them, think he would be a fan favorite down there as well. Just totally the opposite of Hahn in terms of acquiring players with little to no defensive value. You should have seven-eight defensive starting players, and cycle through your best 4-5 hitters at DH for rest from the field. The Sox have seven-eight DH types, and try to slot them through half the available fielding positions.
-
I guess the main point of contention is I think they can get a decent starting pitcher from Miami for Eloy, but I don't think they would get much for Vaughn and thus he's more valuable here for his salary. Eloy's late season play has likely sparked more interest in him than he had going into the last offseason. If you can get SP or a solid starter in their 20s (productive, young and healthy) for Vaughn, than I wouldn't be against it. Would still trade Eloy as well if you can sell high, don't see him ever sustaining health in his career.

There are only a few teams spending money these days, and the smart teams aren't plopping down big $ for catchers. Thought the Yankees might want to upgrade catcher this offseason, but they were happy with dumping Sanchez and going with decent defensive catchers (Trevino). That's what the Sox should have continued to do (McCann's first Sox deal, pass on the 3-4 year $10M - $18M AAV deals like his Mets deal or Grandal's Sox deal). Grandal was Hahn's first major mistake in terms of roster management and spreading resources to cover as many positions with quality as possible.
-
He's a solid player, but just like Grandal, signing catchers over 30 to expensive long term contracts is nearly always a poor use of resources. Sure there are a couple exceptions in MLB history, like Fisk, but they are the exception, not the rule. The smart route is to finally get instructors and develop catchers internally. Zavala improved this season under Narron, if he could develop other catchers in the minors, than he might be worth keeping. Catching is an important position, and a dedicated organizational instructor would be money well spent, pennies on FA dollars spent on guys like Grandal, Welington Castillo.
-
Not looking for return on most of these guys, just young, hungry, able to play their assigned positions. 2005 Kenny Williams could fill in the gaps and make it work. Rick Hahn is out of his element, Vaughn the only piece he added beyond pawning off everything he inherited.
