7/27 Sox @ Rockies 2:10 CST
A good coach or teacher can motivate a player / student to do more than they initially think they can do. I saw substantial player improvement, motivation, effort and accountability under Ricky.

Do they pour the shots out of a fifth, or are they giving you an airport bottle? Bonus points if they are pouring shots directly into fans mouths.

Yes, those 2020 defensive gains under Rick evaporated under Tony. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jose-abreu/15676/stats?position=1B Don’t think Abreu would have ever reached MVP status if he played under Tony his entire career. Take it easy is the driving mantra the past two seasons, and that isn’t going to change until there is a manager change. Nobody is being challenged, pushed to give their best.

Vogelbach had a similar pace first to home on the second video. He has a 2 Statcast Sprint Speed, but goes max effort and pays attention to the play in front of him, which puts him in the top half if he was on the White Sox.

DH C Grandal DH Sheets DH Vaughn DH Eloy C McGwire C Zavala DH Burger (Top current AAA player) This is all on Hahn. McGwire is the only acquisition post Tony’s hire, and also the only player who can field their defensive position on at least a league average / capable basis.

What is status of Luis Robert?
Have to feel they have more info at this stage. If they know Robert isn’t coming back anytime soon, I don’t see them aggressively buying this week, and it makes sense to sell pieces they don’t want in 2023. Even flipping two question marks like Pollock for Gallo, or perhaps flipping Kelly if he continues to pitch well this week, would be a huge win.

Not only should the Sox spare no reasonable trade offer to procure the Billy Hamilton or another actually capable outfielder. Perhaps they should also go after speedster Dan Vogelbock, who made it from second to home in eight seconds during his Mets debut. Also showed his plus speed with Pittsburgh. #TeamOldSlowFragileLikeTheirDinosaurManager #YouOldFossilYou #FireTony #StartBustingYourAssesWhiteSox

Would say the Angels and Baltimore, and to a lessor extent the Mets are comparable teams in terms of market demographics and fan split. Oakland is intentionally tanking attendance, so you need to go back several years to draw a meaningful comparison between the Giants and A's. The White Sox' revenue last year reduced more than most other non CA,NY teams due to the heavy attendance restrictions in place until late June. Between the rejection of cash & box office sales, and the removal of all games from free television, the Sox are forgoing an opportunity to expand their fan base and exposure long term. Even televising a weekly game over the air like the Yankees do on Saturdays and accepting cash, would give them consistent exposure in the marketplace with lower / working class income, our historical fan base, and would produce goodwill and fan interest over time, which could restore lost market share erosion over the past 40 years. 2021 Team Revenue & Cost Index by market Cubs (R 5th $425M & CI 2nd $313) vs. White Sox (R 24th $258M (tied with Pittsburgh WTF) & CI 9th $215). Dodgers (R 1st $565M & CI 6th $266) vs. Angels (R 9th $331M & CI 18th $183) Washington D.C. (R 11th $322M & CI 5th $279) vs. Baltimore (R 27th $251M & CI 23rd $168) Yankees (R 2nd $482M & CI 3rd $303) vs. Mets (R 13th $302M & CI $197) Will be interested to see 2022 numbers, which will provide better comparisons across all 30 teams with the exclusion of attendance restrictions throughout the year.

Key Findings The White Sox have the second highest beer price across The MLB ($10.75 - Mets at $12) after their switch in beer marketing partner from Goose Island, Revolution and Modelo to Miller MolsonCoors swill. So a decrease in quality, and gouging for bottom barrel beer. The Sox have the fifth highest parking rates across The MLB ($23.57), even higher than Boston but lower than Oakland (WTF). Going to a Cubs game costs an average $100 more for a family of four, which should give most here joy. Not sure if the outrageous ticket fees are included in the ticket prices, which the Sox come in slightly below average ($34.43 Sox vs. $35.93 average). Sadly, the White Sox have eliminated the ability to pay in cash (28% of adults do not have a credit card), and also eliminated the ability to avoid Ticketbastard fees and buy tickets direct at the Ballpark Box Office the past two seasons. https://www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/sports/inflation-mlb-ballpark-concession-stands ESPN had more detailed breakouts of additional food items: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34266746/how-inflation-affecting-your-wallet-ballpark-concessions-stand-season Nachos & Cheese $6.75 Cracker Jack $4.00 (second cheapest in The MLB, Anaheim @ $3.75 is the low cost leader) Water & Soda $5.60 for 16 oz (prices presented per oz, both $0.35)

Trade Rumors Catch-all
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/marlins-open-to-trade-offers-on-pablo-lopez-looking-to-upgrade-offense.html I proposed last October the Sox working with Miami to close an Eloy + Mercedes (both of whom Kim was rumored to want) for Lopez trade as one of my proposed 2022-23 offseason trades in October. That ship has sailed as Lopez is having a great season, Eloy is mired in injuries once again and Yermin and his .820 OPS was given away to the Giants. The White Sox would be 65-32, despite Tony, if they were able to complete my suggested moves.

Hopefully Eloy is able to play LF this afternoon, which would allow Grandal to DH.. Will likely see Zavala catch, hopefully the rest of today's starters can return and sit Pollock.

Marquez has been pitching well of late, had a few big blow ups that inflated his ERA (have him in a few deep Rotisserie leagues).

Eloy is the only one who can possibly beat Tony, if the stars are aligned.

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
Yes. Properly managed in a part time DH/LF role, he has an .853 OPS.

Plus, they can’t trade Gallo until they have a replacement starting RFer. They don’t operate like the White Sox.

This is the third flight in eight days for Tim Anderson. I’m very surprised Tony didn’t rest him tonight, or Hahn place him on the 10 day IL to allow Tim to relax until returning for perhaps a game in the August 5-7 Rangers series.

What, if any, trade value does Eloy have?
Yes, sometimes we evaluate players and teams based on numbers, and forget about heart, be it the player who is not above average against major league talent, or a fan favorite that may be injured or not performing as expected but still doing the best they can. Hoping the Sox can turn it around, with Eloy playing a big role, and we all can enjoy the Summer and Fall, and perhaps unexpected October success. Take care and hope you also can do well for yourself.

Trade Deadline Predictions Thread
I predict based on the Sox current record and 2022 live gate revenue being lower to significantly lower than projected last offseason with the disappointing attendance, they will not do much. I don’t believe they are sellers unless they lose 4 of 5, or get a crazy offer for Liam, a starter, perhaps Eloy. If they add anything, it will be marginal, i.e. a 6th - 7th inning reliever, because Hahn, or perhaps a Naquin-ish RF who is at/below average fielding, but a significant defensive upgrade to Sheets and Vaughn, and can hit better than Leury. If I’m wrong, hopefully I’m pleasantly surprised.

Trade Rumors Catch-all
Have to laugh looking at the negative trade values on the current Sox team. Of the five players with a value over negative $1M (all over $5M), three of the five were Hahn's acquisitions this offseason. Consistent with driving a new car off the lot and immediately losing significant value. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/467/ Pollock ($7M) Grandal ($6.7M) Kelly ($6.1M) Leury Garcia ($5.8M) Bummer ($5.1M)
-
What, if any, trade value does Eloy have?
I thought it was a good shot at the time, and even though he couldn't hit in the smallish sample of 42 games, I would have rather the Sox kept him on a similar deal he signed with Detroit ($1.75M) than what they ended up signing (Eaton). He would be a huge upgrade both offensively and defensively, over Sheets this season.
-
What, if any, trade value does Eloy have?
Hope everything is OK with you Tray. Found these on MLB Trade Values: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/players/8571/ The Oakland trade looks both reasonable and interesting (Eloy & Crochet for Montas) among the four trades listed if the Sox are going for it this and next season.
