Vaughn is on Sox post season list
Hahn clarified eligibility last week during his press conference, and struck down some misconceptions including the Sept 15 active roster deadline date bantered about here and elsewhere. The rules regarding the expanded playoffs, including taxi squads, the elimination of the bogus extra inning rule for playoff games, and other aspects can be found here: https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/news/mlb-announces-expanded-playoffs-for-2020 The roster rules can be found here: http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-roster-rules-eligibility Hahn indicated the White Sox playoff roster will be submitted to the league on the date it is due to allow maximum flexibility among the 40 players eligible.

Magic Number: Playoffs - 0; Division - 4
In 2001, Houston / Cardinals tie, broken by a tie-breaker and not a Game 163, was the first example of two teams claiming a "co-division championship". Before Division Titles and the regular season meant something. Like all other aspects of MLB, ownership greed has rendered the regular season a marathon length exhibition season, followed by a few dozen games which actually matter in terms of revenue and a "champion" played by a majority of teams not good enough to win a five team division. "Wild cards" expanded from two to four and now ten teams, or a majority of the sixteen teams competing for a "championship". Sorry, but if you cannot beat four other teams in a lengthy season, you shouldn't be able to complete for a championship. I follow the season because of Rotisserie baseball, but the expansion has made the playoffs a farce which I rarely watch.

I agree with the Big Hurt about Robert
That negates his main attribute, walking to allow the primary run producers to drive him in. Putting Grandal 2nd and Moncada 5th (or behind Roberts if still ill/slumping) also works. Hope Grandal returns for the final series.

9-23 Game Thread: Sox @ Cleveland (5:10 PM)
Like the lineup! Parrot went two for three yesterday. Mazara out. Would lie to hear which relievers are not available. Have to assume Foster, with Colome questionable baring an injury update. Have to also assume Grandal is PH / Emergency only beyond a further update.

Thread of positivity
Wasn't the biggest Hawk fan, but my favorite Hawk moment I heard after I came home from THE regular season game of 2005. Was three rows from where the HR landed. HR @ 7:30 mark, Hawk's "JOOOOOOE CREDE!!!!!!!" my favorite non-funny Hawk moment @ 7:48. Favorite White Sox Third Baseman of All Time: Joe Crede Eric Soderholm Vance Law

I agree with the Big Hurt about Robert
Great article, thanks for posting. Robert will have a great career, just hope he can bounce back a bit for the playoffs.

I rarely b**** about umpiring, but the only match-up I fear for the White Sox this postseason is having to face Angel Hernandez. We are assembling video of all the bad calls tonight by Angel Hernandez. It's 3 hours long. — Chuck Garfien (@ChuckGarfien) September 22, 2020

Crochet
With Tiny Nick at second.

Cease feature on FG
Would like the Sox to make a major play for Ethan Katz this offseason, especially if McCann isn’t returning. There are many pitchers who could benefit.

9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
It’s nights like these I wish Rongey was here, facing the callers., contemplating Hari Kari. Go Sox!

9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
Agreed, hate seeing them lose, but this is the week to play bad vs. the alternative. Going to try to find the full Ricky Renteria press conference after going out for a walk to blow off some steam and burn off the two beer calories I had today. Cheers Dick Allen, remember you from WSI, glad to see you are still following the team closely and posting here.

You make a good point, unless Joe went to the mound and had to make a decision with an injured Foster. Cooper still plays a role in terms of working with the bullpen catcher and pitchers to determine who is available and who is not. Still haven't heard a reason the past decade why he is still here. Gonzalez needs more time to warm up than a typical reliever. Colome was the first option, if he doesn't have back spasms, and or Robert caught the ball he should have near the wall, ballgame is likely the White Sox'. If Bummer returns and with Crochet's emergence, the Sox still have one of the best bullpens in the game. The starters need to get to the sixth. I remember when everyone crapped the bed on WSI against Cleveland toward the end of the 2005 season, Joe Crede won it with an extra inning game and then went on to roll from then on. Then again, they had four veteran starters, this team has one and an emerging starter. Lopez is their third best starter in September, against higher quality opponents than Dunning or Cease faced, likely will be bypassed if the Sox need a forth playoff starter. At least he has played well enough to make the roster.

Rick told Joe to pitch Foster, said McEwing made the call to switch. Rick is stuck with decades long Friends of Jerry, McEwing was brought in by Ventura, Cooper over four decades. Hahn's not going to allow Ricky to do anything with these two, they are lifers as well.

Did Weekend at Cooper's have any input? Still haven't heard why he's still here after 32 years.

Detroit just tied the Twins. Anderson is within .003 of LeMahieu after his 0-4 night.

He will likely be worth more. Not a Hahn fan, but acquiring Eloy, Abreu and Robert were his the best moves, even if the White Sox do not win another game this season.

EDIT: Ricky stated Colome was not available due to back spasms. I too have issues at times with Rick Renteria's decisions, but the only positive I can say this decade for Cooper is he didn't try to stop Giolito after Lucas said enough is enough with the Cooper way, and worked with his High School pitching coach and James McCann.

Battling back was the only good take away today, Parrot got two hits, so hopefully he can build on that. Ricky should start both Engel and Dyson tomorrow, let Eloy DH and give Grandal another day off to heal, as he likely won't be 100% this soon. Give Giolito the best defense to win. These are the types of games the team won as recently as a week ago, just a bad stretch of baseball at a very inopportune time. Glad it's this week and not next.

Robert needs to practice with the wall before games. Looked like Eloy out there.
-
9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
Well he is no Dan Pasqua or Nicky Delmonico, that's for certain.

9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
To be fair, the White Sox also had with one out and Nicky at bat. #Team McCann hoping for a hit here.

Anderson 1-4 so far, but gained ground on 0-3 LeMahieu after 7 in Toronto Buffalo. LeMahieu .358 Anderson .353

The Sox have Kopech for the latter, perhaps a future year for the former.

Not only was today Lopez' most effective outing, it was also his longest in terms of pitches. Hopefully he can pitch well Sunday, and be counted on in the playoffs when a long man is needed. 7/26: 2/3 IP / 31 Pitches / 4 Earned Runs (Min) 8/22: 3 1/3 / 50 / 2 (@ CHC) 8/28: 4 / 70 / 2 (KC) 9/2: 1 2/3 / 53 / 1 (@Min) 9/12: 5 / 75 / 0 (Det) 9/17: 5 1/3 / 83 / 3 (Min) 9/22: 5 / 85 / 1 (@ Cle)

To be fair, Andy Masur also started the call as though it was a deep fly ball, until it wasn't. Hard to call the game off of a computer monitor.
