Maybe the old tyrant Georgie S. with the Yankees would do it, but not Reinny.
-
What a silly thing to say. Do you think that Reinny micro-manages the white sox? I don't. I don't like Reinny as an owner through history but I don't think he micro manages. Hell, he let Hawk fire LaRussa years ago despite there being such "good friends". I don't see anywhere evidence of Reinny naming previous managers. Hell, maybe the Sox might have been better off if he did:)
-
What makes you think that? Isn't Reinny pretty adamant about his people being squeaky clean?
-
I hope not. I also would be surprised if MLB doesn't want him to manage this soon after the big cheating scandal. Did Alomar get interviewed? Anyone know?
-
Yep. I happen to know some very good hold-em poker players, my son included. Some of the smartest "plays" in the world ended up losing a ton of money.
-
Wow you sure like to belittle people. Now, you talk about a guy never having played poker at all. Saying that using statistics is how you "consistently win at poker" is pretty funny. Keep believing that is all that you need to do and see how your bank account will survive it.

I've been always talking about right fielders. He had a .785 OPS in 2019 and .745 in 2017. His power numbers have been over-all good for the right field position. People do different extracts of data and some of the data that they are grabbing reflects anyone who played a right field position or even one inning. Another pulls data from a source which has listed only players who reach the "minimum" number of ABs to be eligible for end of season awards. Now there are people listing all players at all positions and changing the metric from home-runs to OPS. I'm done. I care less what anyone thinks about Mazara frankly.
-
Good question. I just don't like to be insulted I guess:) My guess is that he'll still be around next year, though. He's still only 25 years old and has hit 80 major league home-runs. Not many hitters have come up at age 22 and done that in baseball.
-
No. Like I said, his OPS was .786 which if he had the required number of ABs to qualify for award criteria would have place him in 13th position. He had enough to qualify in 2017 and finished 16th over-all in all of baseball with a .745 OPS
-
I didn't look up every year, but in 2019, Mazara, has a .786 OPS which would rank 13th over-all in baseball if he had enough ABs to qualify. Like someone said, you can pretty much prove or disprove anything in statistics using the same raw data. In 2017 Mazara's OBP was 16th among all right fielders in baseball. It was .745.

First of all, I said the American league from the beginning as we began to argue. I wanted to argue apples to apples. One of the reasons is that the AL is a DH league and the NL is not. The NL happens to try and get more of its offensive production from its outfield positions than the AL does because the AL uses the DH for a lot of its power needs. The AL also has more older power hitters in it for that reason also which makes young power guys like Mazara a bit rare. You haven't proven anything that I've said as being false. Mazara is still in the top 25-33% of all major league right field power hitters. That quality makes him, to me an AVERAGE major league right fielder. YOu feel different? Fine. that is your opinion.
-
That's been the history for sure. But, I do have some hope. The locking up of a lot of great young talent for multiple years is something that I never expected. Did you? I just hope that this is a portend of things to come. Maybe the old skin flint wants to go out a winner. Maybe Jose can grab him the end of the game World Series baseball like Paulie did in 2005?:)
-
Yeah. I saw this graph also. First of all, I talked about the American league and half of those players roughly were national league players. 20 is still in the high plateau for all right fielders. Mazara in 2019 also only played in 118 games while Dexter Fowler Choo, Castelanos, Puig, Betts, and many others played in 150+.

I think that they have been catering to hitters big time since the late 60s. Now people want to eliminate defense? Its bullcrap. Now they've messed with the ball and hitters are hitting 100-105mph rockets all over the place. Its going to be a matter of time before a pitcher gets killed out there. And as for the defenses employed, think for a second. Some of these teams are deploying 3rd basemen behind 2nd base, second basemen in medium right field, short-stops all over the place. Think of the different plays that all of these guys have to make from places and angles they have to now make plays from? Its got to be hard. Look at where 3rd basemen are situated against a power hitting right handed hitter. A lot of times, this guy must throw the ball 110-120 feet across the diamond on a ball hit to his right or across his body on a ball to his left. That is amazing to me what some of these guys are doing right now physically.
-
Do we really know that? I'm not sure. Geritol Jerry may actually open the vault and sell some Bitcoins and gold:)
-
THe bottom line with me is, I don't care if the player, especially a pitcher is an asshole or not. All that I care about if I run a team is that the guy shows up every 4-5 days and gives me an 80% chance of winning. Throughout history, the HOF is littered with all time great players who were absolute assholes. If a guy brags about himself, he needs to back it up. I would, however, rather have a guy with an edge like that than someone who is afraid to step out and dominate. Think Gibson wasn't a huge asshole? How about Gooden? Carlton? Bunning? If the guy can pitch. IF a guy can hit. IF a guy is a great defensive player. Find a place for that player on your team and adjust your locker-room accordingly. This is where a manager really earns his paycheck I think.
-
How many right fielders in the AL hit more than 20? I might be wrong, but I think that Mazara is going to rebound next year, I've read that he is doing well and getting his strength and his stroke back. We will see what happens. But he is going to play for someone in the major leagues next season.
-
I think that they are going to have a shot because they can afford him, they have an unbelievable offense in front of him, and that they have quality arms around him both in the SP and the pen, particularly if they resign Colome.
-
They're the same old Bears and always will be. They've had the two worst offensive tackles in the league for the better part of two decades and never have done squat to improve them. Its a sad joke.
-
Sure it was improved. Adding Kuechel gave them two front of the rotation starting pitchers which was better than they had in 2019. And they offered Wheeler a ton of money and the drop-off in quality after him was significant. Also, they were not anywhere ready to win a regular season championship last year pitching wise, with or without Wheeler. The fact is that this silly season was pretty much a Godsend for the Sox in that it basically allowed a lot of their young guys to face major league pitchers and their young pitchers to face established major league hitters and some of them blossomed as a result of it.
-
???? Don't know what that means. But going back to Ted Williams. I remember him being interviewed by Jack Brickhouse one day and Brickhouse had a 78 RPM record on a turntable spinning without the sound on. Williams was able the read even the fine print on the label of the record. I'll never forget it. The eyesight of the man was amazing.
-
They should resign Colome. With Bummer, Huerer, Marshall, Burdi an additional group of dependable relief arms.
-
I'd say that a starting rotation of Giolitto, Bauer, Keuchel, StarterX, and one of the young guys is a World Series caliber team starting staff. This is not the time for this team to think small regarding starting pitching. Its either Bauer or trading for another pitcher of his caliber or two guys of slightly lesser yet good credentials.
-
I don't trade Vaughn for no one but an absolutely healthy top of the rotation starting pitcher with at least 3 years remaining on a contract. And I'd really have to think about that one even then.
-
Nah. They do not need to spend $20M/year on offense. They are going to have a lot of offense next season. Think about this year's team plus a healthy Moncada and a young Vaughn along with an additional production in right field. This in addition to a maturing of Robert into a more disciplined hitter as well as a healthy Jimenez. I believe that the White Sox next season will set offensive records for runs scored big time. Jerry needs to open the wallet and bring a couple of solid starting pitchers into the fold.
