  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) Please, please explain. "what you mean". This outta be good... What I mean is the guy we get will likely be WORSE than Ozzie. If you are going to sign Tony Freaking Pena, who is horrible, then keep Ozzie. Why in the world is Tony Pena a better candidate than Ozzie? Oops I know why. Cause he won't say anything controversial. Actually he'll be perfect for Soxtalk. Bless Tony, who is a good guy, but you can't understand a word he says cause of the accent. Oz can be bad enough; Pena you can't understand a word on radio/TV. The writers will be able to pick out a few words.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) Because it doesn't need to be? Florida is generally cheap anyway, and Ozzie is not exactly going to have a lot of negotiating strength. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) You don't think players will start blaming the distractions of Oz as soon as he's gone? You don't think there will be comments about the clubhouse being in turmoil, etc? Or the fighting between Oz and KW and Walker? They will blame Oz for their terrible season. 1.) Florida is beginning the Oz era. Don't they have a new stadium as well? He NEEDS a 4-year deal for the feel good story to be complete. The "we got our man" in Ozzie. We got him! Three year deal won't fool anybody; four year deal and the city is ready to have a parade for its man, Ozzie. It'll be 4 year I predict. 2.) Yes they will! You got it right.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 02:38 AM) Is it really that hard to understand for some of you? Yesterday, we were facing a very, very good lineup with a ton of momentum going. Today, we faced one of the 5 worst teams in baseball with basically a AAA lineup going against Humber/Stewart. Fathom ... you know with the Sox the opponent doesn't matter most of the time. We could have easily dropped 2 more today w/out blinking. I think we're destined to be two under .500. That's what it is.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 01:24 AM) Hey.. Gardenhire has proven that in this division. (ironically he hasn't been very good either this year, though that is a rarity for him) I agree with you about the second part however. See ... Gardy is no good. Ozzie is no good. All managers suck. Soxtalk won't ever be happy with the skipper. How the hell could it be?? Think logically. Do you guys honestly believe in 2011, in a day and age of all these advanced stats that you guys are going to be happy with ANY manager? Gardy stinks. We know Leland stinks after the past years with their high payroll. They all stink. What manager is going to pass the Soxtalk test after a month????? You tell me. I say with utter confidence NONE
  5. Sox are the most bizarre team in baseball history. These 2 guys today pitch masterpieces after yesterday's faceplant. I guess we had dipped a couple to the sub .500, now we have to get back to 2 over again, then faceplant.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Seriously, WTF? Santos's fastball averaged 95.1 this year, Sale has averaged 94.8. I thought Sergio's closing out pitch was that nasty slider in the dirt they can't hit. That fastball Sale threw tonight to end the game ... wow.
  7. Are you 2 guys just trying to act like 'good fans' compared to us mean realists? I mean it's great to support your team but you guys are acting like I did in college when I argued FOR the Sox no matter what, just to piss off fans of other teams I went to school with. I realized we sucked but just tried to support the Sox nonsensically to piss them off. We've been out of it all year basically, but Detroit made it official in those 3 games. Isn't it wild how now we can beat Minnie yet Detroit now owns us??? Bizarre team.
  8. Right after the announcement of Lewis' curt release from his duties, a number of comics led by Kevin Nealon, Paul Rodriguez, Tom Dreesen, Norm Crosby, Larry Miller, andMark Schiff appeared on stage at a Laugh Factory news conference in an attempt to makethe MDA reconsider its shocking statement about Jerry Lewis. Discouraged that theFund's response was to ignore them, the Laugh Factory comics discussed ways of helping"Jerry's kids" rather then “going through people who charge money to raise money, andthen dismiss, unceremoniously, those who do the heavy lifting.”"All the comics said that it had to be in Jerry Lewis' honor," Masada said. We will work with international muscular dystrophy programs to help all those who suffer frommuscular dystrophy.” Good luck to all the kids today who will be working in this bulls*** corporate environment someday. Wow. America business is run so poorly. Only man with a f***ING CLUE is mark cuban. The only man.
  9. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Tony Pena (Yankees bench coach & former KC manager) should get heavy consideration as the next manager. See, this is what I mean. If you are gonna get guys like are mentioned in this thread, then keep Ozzie. Ozzie Guillen vs. Tony Pena?? My god.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) Would have rather seen Santos get the chance to get the last out. And hell no to making Sale your closer next year Well Santos is the closer then, and hopefully he can handle it. You do need a closer even if your team is mediocre to s***ty. It's nice to have a closer with a heater like Sale.
  11. It's nice to have a closer with the ability to blow somebody away with heat. No doubt in my mind Sergio would have blown that one again. Dead arm?? If Sale has heat like that, he may need to be closer next year.
  12. Ozzie going with the matchups today. Serg didn't have s***. Will Sale have anything? Or walkoff coming? Beware first pitch walkoff bomb.
  13. Just to get this straight. In these scenarios would you blame Oz today? 1.) Sergio now gets rocked and we lose? 2.) Sergio loads the bases and Oz doesn't take his CLOSER out? Just wondering cause my guess is even though this is an automatic move I think people would blame Ozzie saying he should have left Matt in. Would you blame Ozzie? Or would u blame Sergio? I blame players; I think most would blame Oz.
  14. Nice at bat with men on base. Failure again. Is the implosing coming?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) There have been very few details from both sides, but it has been stated today by the MDA that Jerry Lewis "Retired". I know they said that but that's them talking. Read the Las Vegas Sun they've been following it. The comedians in LA who know Lewis and David Letterman say he got axed. The comics are pissed. They have started an award for Jerry and will do a benefit every year in LA with proceeds going to MDA in Jerry's name. He got canned for being old. What a f***ing joke. It was his telethon. I pity the future of America. Doing the right thing is soooo passe and gawn now.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) He will get a 3 year deal tops. It will be four year deal. Why wouldn't it be?
  17. What a terrible throw. Thank goodness he was out and Humber gets seven shutout innings. Depending on the pitch count, it may be tiime to let the bullpen blow this one. Let Humber leave with a good feeling. I'm saying this with no idea what the pitch count is.
  18. Oh good we get to see Adam against a lousy righty try to go 0-for-3.
  19. How long will Humber go? Will the bullpen implode so we are an even 10 games out entering tonight's game? Hilarious that this team is so far out of first.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) If LaRussa comes to the Sox, we'll see a huge improvement in how our pitchers hold on runners, as well as better strategy with regards to throwing behind runners, etc. Not to start this up, but is there any reason to believe he would come to Chicago in any scenario where he's managing the Sox instead of the Cubs? Why would he want the leftover team? Just cause of Jerry, his buddy? How close are Jerry and LaRussa anyway? Isn't Jerry about 80 years old?
  21. So Jerry Lewis runs this MDA Telethon for 50 years, raises 2 billion dollars for the organization and they dump him the year they are forced to a 6 hour format, which would have been better for the crotchety old man anyway. Can you imagine the meeting in which the young suits in charge of MDA discuss getting rid of the out of touch Jerry Lewis and bring in some clown from American Idol? How in the world could anybody give a cent to that organization again? This is a perfect example of corporate suits doing something totally un American (of what America used to stand for). They get rid of the guy who most of America thought owned the damn telethon, the man who raised all that money, and bring in some no-name hosts that nobody in their right mind would watch. It was a tradition to turn on the TV for an hour or so on Labor Day weekend and watch Jerry Lewis say stupid things while raising money. I think MDA got tired of waiting on him to die. And fired him. What a f***ing disgrace, America. Jerry Lewis is from the era where you don't take shots at people, either. So I would doubt we'll see what I'd love to see. The old comic blast the s*** out out of the suits who in their "team meetings" probably discussed an nauseum how to dump this institution who made the telethon a s***load of money for 50 years.
  22. Uh oh. Fifth inning. This could be the six-run spot on Humber.
