  1. Was somebody joking about Hal McRae? Is he just a good coach and not good manager after his 2 lousy stints as manager? I actually wouldn't mind him unless he's some sort of guy who just can't be in charge for some reason. He's a fiery MF or at least he was as a player.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 04:14 AM) Too bad this is how Buehrle is finishing up. Unless they get him back at one year, or a cheap 2-year deal, I'm starting to think it may be best to let him go. Peavy, Rios and Dunn's contracts are really going to force some tough decisions. He's been hit hard before. He's still Mark. But like you said, because of Peavy/Rios/Dunn he could be gonzo.
  3. Jim Parque. Can you believe he's only 35 years old. What the hell is he doing now?? Anybody know? I think he's another guy our system rushed to the bigs. He got hurt early.
  4. This is the only year since I've been a Sox fan I don't care if we lose all the rest of our games. I hate this team that much. I generally want to win every game cause I don't care about draft picks. This team is so unlikeable, however, we might as well lose them all. I'll give them a clean slate, fresh start chance in April to see if they actually are a team that will move runners and get a clutch hit once in a while.
  5. I wonder what a guy like LaRussa thinks of our talent. If we have to replace Ozzie, that would be interesting to me at least, since I blame the players. See who LaRussa really thinks is a stiff and asks KW to trade or maybe doesn't play. I still say he has to play Dunn and Rios with multi years left on their deals. I'd think a veteran manager with nothing to lose like LaRussa would be funny in hating on certain players he thinks are stiffs. Some young guy might be too "respectful" to the veteran talent.
  6. Seriously, can you believe Lexi? He glared out at Francour. Maybe he was kidding, but it didn't seem that way. And he was almost out on a single to right. Now Lexi loafs? Poor Ozzie goes out like a lamb.
  7. LOL at Lexi getting mad at Francour for trying to throw him out at first on a single to right. Fail Lexi. So Lexi thinks he can just loaf on a single to right and the rightfielder should just not hustle as well? Our.Team.Sucks. KC will win all 4 as they did vs. Minnie.
  8. Mr. Foul Ball is up, Gordon Beckham.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 02:20 AM) Greg, how many years have we been saying this about the Royals? Until they get the quality starting pitching, at best they are a .500 club but probably not even that unless Moustakas can start hitting with authority. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) Buehrle doing his best to have teams worry about his arm heading into the offseason. Really ugly finish for him. Viciedo is in a terrible slump and Flowers is a joke of a contact hitter. 1.) This time I think they are going to acquire a starting pitcher via trade or free agency to go with Chen as a decent 1-2 with that young lefty, I forget his name. They have some young pitching coming up. Their lineup is for real this time unless Melky and Francour turn into s***. 2.) Can't argue with any of that. Dayan now looks like Billy Butler as a high ceiling (no home runs) and Flowers has been a joke and Mark as you said is getting rocked like that line smash off his body. Yikes we stink.
  10. I wonder how long it'll take us to contend again. This is as bleak an outlook as we've had in a long time. Team still can't beat Central Div. teams (except for Minnesota of late), can't win at home and is mediocre on the road.
  11. Boy the Sox stink. 6-2 KC. Royals see this as a statement series to show what the Sox and rest of the division are in for next year. They are on the upswing with young hitters. Still shaky starting pitching tho.
  12. Jeff Francis six strong innings. What a joke.
  13. Morel should have smashed that 2-0 pitch ... and that 2-1 pitch. They were meaty.
  14. Flowers surprised me. I thought Cy Francis was going to whiff him with the fastball. Nice sac fly.
  15. LOL at our hitters against Francis, one of the worst excuses for a pitcher in baseball. At least there will be no expectations next year. KC will be picked to finish ahead of the Sox.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) 5 main candidates, in my opinion, are: - LaRussa - Don Cooper - Joe McEwing - Sandy Alomar Jr. - Dave Martinez Omar Vizquel is the longshot I don't see how hiring any of those guys except LaRussa would be an upgrade or any reason to fire Ozzie. Aren't there any old guys who are former managers out there? Sox need a Bob Lemonish/Lou Piniellish type old guy as next skipper. I can't think of any out there but that is what they need. I'm sure they are out there. Is Torre really retired for good?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) thanks for derailing another thread I killed my thread so if you kill yours then it will be wiped away. If you guys don't want to hear it, fine.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) Well if Ozzie can't get past the hard feelings to come back, then that's his problem. The fans will be more than willing to accept him. Like you always say, he managed them to the only WS title in 90 years. People will always remember & appreciate that. They just don't want him in the dugout anymore. Yeah, but "coming back" entails meeting with many of the people who got rid of you. As much as Ozzie hates Dunn and Rios and being the scapegoat for KW's mess, it's pretty apparent he wants to manage here for a long time to come. He'll be back if the Marlins play the Sox and get one of those scoreboard tribute things.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) The best thing to do in terms of popularity with Sox fans is to leave the Sox. I still think you guys overstate how much he's hated. My friend in Chicago, who once got FIRED from his job because he skipped work to attend a Sox playoff game and the boss told him "if you go to the game you are fired" says the people he works with and he himself like Ozzie still. You guys act like he's getting booed out of the Cell every minute of every game like Dunn/Rios. Just because this message board despises Ozzie doesn't mean MOST Sox fans do despise him. I still think the guy is a likeable fellow. If he walks into a restaurant I'm sure smiles break out. Why do you guys think this small community of fans is representative of all Soxdom?
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) So in essence you're saying you want a manager that will surround himself with assistance coaches that can help hitters, especially when the manager is provided with players with historically solid hitting pedigrees? I'd love to see Frank Thomas be hitting coach.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) If Ozzie keeps his mouth quiet and leaves with dignity, he'll be more famous in Chicago in 4 years than he's ever been. Cubs should hire him. He hates Wrigley, though.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) That's 100% not true. Just because people want him fired now, doesn't mean they won't celebrate 2005 in the future. There are hard feelings when you are fired. It's why the Royals have never given Frank White or George Brett the job in the past. They knew managers are hired to be fired and it never ends well.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) 1. Why would we want to get rid of the only manager that brought us a world series title in 100 years? Sure, bring in some boring guy who will tell the reporters the same boring cliches while Ozzie will bring multiple titles to Florida. 2. Ozzie is still young and learning. Why should we send him away when his best years are ahead of him? 3. Maybe we should try to send them Adam Dunn and Alex Rios instead. Why would we want those garbage players and get rid of a former HOF caliber player and future HOF manager? 4. The only reason Ozzie is getting all of the blame is because he was a much better player than Kenny Williams and Kenny is just jealous. Why do you guys care what some internet poster (me) thinks about Ozzie? You got your way. He's gone. I lose. My favorite Sox manager of all time and one of my favorite players is now Florida's manager. I will not root for Florida; I don't care that much. ozzie is a zillionaire. He will be fine compared to many of us who are not rich. It's very sad that a White Sox through and through like Ozzie never will be welcome back in Chicago again. That's the risk when you hire a former player. Only this one directed the Sox to their only world championship in many many years. Why would my position be in your mind so clearly you'd see the need to post that? It's not like I'm Romney or somebody famous.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) He made it it do to longevity. If it were individual seasons...Fernandez, Black Jack, Wynn, Loaiza, etc. all beat Mark. I know but this isn't about individual seasons. I said Mark was the best pitcher in Sox history and I was flamed for it. He's da best.
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) For what it's worth my all time Sox rotation is Ed Walsh, Red Faber, Ted Lyons, Billy Pierce, Mark Buehrle Nice. Mark is your first of the "modern day."
