QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 02:44 AM) I dont even have words for how Ozzie is using the bullpen at the moment. Its working because Sale and Santos are ridiculously talented, but ugh. How could you possibly complain about Ozzie tonight? What's wrong with Sale facing two guys, then Sergio one? Sale has been pretty f***ing good and Sergio is amazing. Here we finally have a good manager and you guys want to run him out of town and begin the merry go round of managers again. I don't get it. Get rid of Kenny? Yes. Ozzie, no. Just make sure the next GM has total control over the ML roster, not Ozzie. Kudos to Sale and Sergio And from the box score it looks like Ohman and Frasor did OK but Frasor apparently walked a guy. And it looks like Morel is getting better. Keep the home runs coming, White Sox. We need them. It's our ONLY offensive victory formula to go with pitching. If we can hit a ton of homers the next two months we can get back in the race. If not, we'll be doomed to oblivion.

Rios actually thinks he can improve his hitting stance

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Hawk said tonight that Walker tried to get him to move his hands back up early in the season and Rios resisted. Finally he moved them up and started hitting well. He then moved them back down again and struggled again. Now he's moved them back up again. If he keeps hitting like this I wonder if the Yankees would take him off our hands/payroll. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) If he had enough ABs to qualify, he would be no where near those numbers. True. Lillibridge has to be the first big leaguer his size to be a power hitter. But this is his total approach. It's pretty remarkable and stupid. He'll never be a regular in the big leagues when it looks as if he has some talent. Why he thinks he's a power hitter is beyond me.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Maybe Vizquel should play/start a little bit more? We still have a chance in our division. Maybe Vizquel's experience should be considered. Didn't we go on a nice run last year when Vizquel pretty much took over Teahen's starting job? And Vizquel could handle batting second. I am not giving up on Morel for the future. Not saying that he will be a guaranteed success but he deserves more time in the future. At least, his defense is good. However, we have to put out our best team right now. 3rd base is kinda a hole right now (for our offense) Please no. Omar is buzzkill. If Omar starts starting a lot at third, yuk. Omar is too f***ing old to be a starter. He's fine in his current role.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 04:45 AM) I was at the game and read these game thread posts and everybody is so melodramatic. lol. I wasn't feeling that tense at the park and wanting to kill Ozzie. It normally is that way at games. Ozzie's decisions are not that alarming. Most managers make the same type moves. I'm not a Frasor guy. Crain needs to suck it up and pitch.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 03:36 AM) Crain sucks, Morel sucks. Where were Frasor or Sale? I guess Ozzie considers them overworked, but he just about killed Crain tonight, too. You just knew Ozzie was going to leave Danks in too long before calling in the pen, and then he stuck with Crain too long and was REALLY fortunate to escape with a win. Santos was great....once again Danks ALMOST wet the bed but certainly didn't look like the type of pitcher you'd pay $14-15 per million for season for 4-5-6 years. The 3B (Bell) swinging on that change-up a foot off the plate against Danks was key. So was AJ's catch of that pop-up. A rare late innings rally. Lucky for us that their middle relief sucks. Alexei simply had a horrible approach at the plate tonight. I really hope that Morel isn't our starting 3B next year. Seemingly, he needs at least another half season or more in AAA. Unusually negative after a win? We need Crain to get his s*** together. The new guy from Toronto isn't the righty answer. Do you need to be reminded Frasor has sucked? Morel at least is very good at defense. Our late inning rally was good. Usually it doesn't matter if a team's relievers suck or not. We'll take it. Lexi needs to start hitting some bombs. We need homers and lots of 'em if we hope to surge.

I read the entire thread to see how bad the meltdown was when we blew the lead. Not so bad. I was surprised. People freaked on Ozzie though over the use of Crain. I was at dinner when Baltimore took the lead. Nice to see us battle back and win. Got to win at least 3 of 4 if Sox are serious. Two won't do it at this stage.

Man LBJ must have been scum to organize a plot to kill the president. I bet Katie Holmes is pissed the TV show is canceled by ABC over the tapes.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Flash back to May 6th. The team is 11-22. fill in the blank with what your thought would have been that day: "I think ______ would be an acceptable winning percentage over the next 80 games" 44-36 feels acceptable to me. Did you expect 50-30? 60-20? I did not feel as though this team was a 100-120 game winner at any point. I felt as though they were a low to mid 90s winner. Which means that 8 over .500 for 80 games is about where they should have been. So as many of us feared, that slow start cost us the season. Cause this team is still way too far out of first and still significantly under .500, all because of a s*** five weeks. I tell you, Oz should be manager of the year for going 44-36 with this horrible offense. It is truly a miracle. But I maintain the 44-36 doesn't matter because of the awful start. Because this season has to be graded a D right now, even with the 44-36. It has been a miserable season.

The results of this poll show what a dumb question it is. 36-1. I don't know why, as Hawk says, our hitters seem so jumpy at the plate and nonconfident, but it ain't the booing.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Rios hit this series and if he can keep it up and Dunn can ever do anything positive over a period of time we can still make the push. Win in Baltimore and we can show the Tigers and Indians we ain't chumps Wake me up when we get over.500. Tonight's game will be interesting. If these are the same ol Sox, they are due for a major flop tonight after winning three in a row.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) How much of the job of front office, coaches, and managers is motivating players to be successful? Of course he shouldn't need outside motivation, but in reality everyone does at times. Someone has to find a way into his head and turn this around. It would seem like AJ/PK should be in this guy's face. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) You can't just throw out a month of the season though. April counts unfortunately and the season as a whole has been piss poor, there is no doubt. We've been spoiled with pretty good baseball, but I can't remember a season this frustrating in a long time. Our offense has been so bad it's laughable which many of us have done when Dunn/Rios are up to bat and others are finding new ways to screw up first and second and nobody out situations. I'd rate this all-in season a D so far.
-
I hate to say this, but playing lousy at home is the sign of a bad team. Until the Sox prove otherwise, the Sox are a bad team.
-
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) Their record simply hasn't piss-poor for most of the season. I don't know how to qualify it further. It's remarkable that so many baseball fans will scream SAMPLE SIZE!!!! and TREND!!!! when it's convenient to their argument, but then ignore their importance when it comes to something they disagree with. Looking at their aggregate record and evaluating it against their payroll feels myopic to me. For almost 3/4 of this season, they have been winning at a rate within 4-5 games of what many people expected them to win at (I feel as though most people expected a win rate of 93-94 games). A .550 winning percentage for half a season's worth of games. Disappointing? I guess maybe slightly. I never expected them to win at some superhuman rate, like they put up during interleague last year. I did expect them to bounce back from a horrid april and compete, and they have done so. 8 over for the last 80 feels about right to me and certainly doesn't fit "piss-poor". I don't get your post. They are 4-5 games within what many expected? The team is under .500 and all-in. It has been totally a piss poor season IMO. The team has played so bad at home there have been as many boos as cheers. The team has a season-high win streak of four games. The offense has been disgracefully bad, so bad at knocking in runners that the games are almost impossible to watch in their entireity. The team has sucked overall. Now if suddenly the team plays as it did in Minnesota the rest of the way, great. But that is not going to suddenly happen IMO.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Sorry Debbie, they'll be over .500 this time next week QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Team seemed much more relaxed with Lillibridge out there instead of Dunn at 1B. You have to go with Brent against LHP, and you'd have to argue that it's also going to help Paulie a lot to DH the final two months...if Brent were only taller and had more experience with scoop plays (needed with Alexei and Morel over there)....but he has so much more range and athleticism than Paulie at 1B. Peavy's now had two positive starts in a row. That's huge. Now the big question becomes Humber. We have to go 6-1 or no worse than 5-2 the next 7 games, and, once again, at least get back to .500. Baltimore has been playing like crap, but that hasn't meant much when the Sox faced them the last 2-3 seasons. They play like the Royals against us for some reason. Showalter is a huge jackass, and it'd be so nice to beat these guys when they're really down. 1.) No need to call naysayers Debbie Downers. This team has shown nothing all year. We have the right to be skeptical until they somehow get over .500. 2.) There's no way Oz is sitting Dunn against lefties. Today was just a day off for the big lug.

Rios actually thinks he can improve his hitting stance
greg775 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:44 AM) I don't care if he is communing with the dead...I just want him to hit...the guy has so much talent. I don't think his numbers suggest he has special talent. I mean the guy looks good in a baseball uniform, that's about it to me. Sometimes he looks pretty in the outfield gliding after the ball. I think he's always been way overrated. Let's just hope he improves enough we can dump him on somebody by paying 2/3 his salary or something. -
Morel needs to learn how to take a free pass. Nyuk nyuk. I like the guy, but you are right. He had no business batting second. I'll admit that was a helluva mistake by Ozzeroo.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) How I hope you're right- and you can always dream. Unfortunately the mantra for the 2011 White Sox has been to tease, tease, tease just enough to keep our interest right when we were ready to move on to something else. I hope this isn't another fools gold moment but it certainly is nice to watch them play 3 consecutive ball games like this in Minnesota. Going to Baltimore against Showalter is a bit shaky as he out manages Ozzie each game, so we're going to have to rely on just beating them with the talent on the field if to continue to make up ground. I am still watching the games, hoping that we can get hot and peel off a 10 game winning streak, so from this standpoint I guess I am "in"... QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:19 AM) Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Come on guys, we have seen this act time and time again this year. They get to .500, and then lose a few games. Then, they get back to .500, only to lose a few games. Repeat. They aren't fooling me, and they aren't going to make up 5.5 games in the last two months. Good thread, but no way am I on board. Let's see if the Sox can win more than 4 games in a row and can keep hitting home runs like today. We ain't scoring runs any other way and it's time to hit a ton of home runs in August. I don't know how the Sox actually pounded Minnie three in a row, but it was nice. As far as these posts. ... 1.) Buck Showalter outmanages Ozzie? What is this, a chess match? Players win games. Buck hasn't exactly turned Baltimore around. Balt is 44-67. I'm sure people in Baltimore are already tired of Buck just as many here are tired of Oz. Guys with 44-67 records aren't exactly beloved by fans. 2.) You are correct. Sox have proven nothing except that they can actually beat the Twins. Halleluia! Finally.
-
Nice to sweep those bastards. Nice to hit some home runs. Great pitching ... again.
-
Home runs and good pitching and good enough defense. That's how we win when we look like a real team. Surprised we haven't had more games like this with 4 homers. Weird season. Nice sweep.
-
If we hadn't face planted at home last homestand, these 3 games may have had us moderately excited. Still nice to sweep these Twinks.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) It's ridiculous Hawk is basically giving up-to-the-minute updates on the Tigers. When the Sox get over .500 and within 5 games, maybe then you give more updates. Right now, it's more Hawk stupidity. You try to fill a 3 hour broadcast with this team. I got no problem with scores from other games.
-
Lilly is only two homers behind Dunn. Do you think in Lilly's mind he is a power hitter? I really think he does. Everything about his at bats suggest power hitter. Crazy considering his build.
-
Can you believe Lilly has three fewer home runs than Dunn? Yikes.

QUOTE (South Paw @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 07:10 AM) i don't see why people keep ripping pierre as much as they do. he has at the very least been serviceable and is probably our fourth best hitter at this point (although thats not saying much). hell, he has the third highest obp on the team. and while his defense isn't great, it's definitely not horrendous either. this is not saying i would want him back next year though I don't want him back either, but he's been the least of our problems since April. He made a couple errors in April and that was it for Juan in many people's eyes. The guy is hitting .279.
