  1. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:48 AM) for the lack of hustle while rounding 2nd How did the big lug get on base? I missed it. A walk I presume?
  2. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:43 AM) what was stupid about it? it was a double, its not like he could stay at 2B Yep, you got to run on that. He was out by a wide margin tho.
  3. So far this game has been really enjoyable. Hopefully the bullpen will do the job.
  4. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) I was laughing at the time but I don't think I've ever seen a manager call for intentional walk, going from righy/righty matchup to a righty/lefty when the lefty is the cleanup hitter. That truly may be a first. That was wild.
  5. QUOTE (Paulie4Pres @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 06:02 AM) How does acquiring Rasmus make this team better? Now, or in the future. Maybe it's just me, but Rasmus reminds me an awful lot of Rios, who I absolutely HATE. One good season does not a great player make. That's all he's had. One good season. His first season was MEH. This season is MEH. Have Sox fans not learned a f***ing thing about overpaying for flash in the pan players? What do you do with Rios, if you make this trade? Who sits? Adding Rasmus and keeping Rios does nothing to improve this team. Adding Rasmus only improves this team if he doesn't turn out to be Rios PART 2. I don't do this trade unless they want JUST Jackson. Thornton and Jackson? No, sorry. Get bent. The biggest problem with this team is the garbage player we have in CF right now. Get rid of him, somehow, anyhow, and we improve immediately. BRIAN ANDERSON would be an upgrade in CF right now. How pathetic is that? Greatpost. I don't know how everybody isn't in full agreement with you.
  6. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:49 AM) This is the same manager who didn't call up Rasmus in 09 when rosters expanded even though he'd hit .330 over the previous couple months in the minors, calling out the kid in the media saying he wasn't ready. LaRussa can be a dick. True, I'd be for acquring him as long as we can dump Rios somehow. Platooning isn't the answer.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) So forget about Dayan for a while. Yeah, sounds painful.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:34 AM) he's 24, was the #3 prospect in the NL going into last year. That's not an accident. His OPS last season was .859. you seriously think you can get him for a 2 month rent-a-player in Jackson, or a 35 year old reliever. you REALLY think that? you don't understand baseball if that's the case. Yes because his manager hates him. You ever heard of the Rios situation? It could be the same thing. So don't overpay for him. His stats this year are pretty ordinary to lousy. By this logic, maybe we should deal Beckham for some amazing prospects cause he's young and has potential too.
  9. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:22 AM) Have we reached the point where we'd be better off having the pitchers hit for Adam Dunn? No, but I don't see why he can't bat sixth or seventh. He's doing Paulie no favors hitting fourth, that's for sure.
  10. No offense, but please educate me on why we'd overpay for Colby. He is hitting ... 241 with nine homers and 36 ribbies, five stolen bases 57 runs scored. He's been caught stealing twice. His onbase percentage is .327. He has 43 walks and 73 Ks. Last year he hit 23 homers but struck out a ton. I mean he's an OK prospect but not to overpay for, even if Edwin is leaving anyway. I say make it a straight up deal, baby, or no deal at all. Edwin for Rasmus. Or Matt for Rasmus. Why overpay? Seriously? Discuss Colby the player when you are salivating over getting him, please. He is a first round draft pick, which is prolly why St. Louis will demand a clear cut victory in any trade.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 02:50 AM) Well that's too bad because he's going to hit cleanup for the foreseeable future. Yuk. One of the worst seasons in modern baseball history hitting fourth. That is called buzzkill.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 02:02 AM) For context this was the post I was referring to in the post I re-posted above: So you've invoked Beckham's name yet again in comparison to Rasmus and it seems Rasmus' defense has gone from "less than average" to Mackowiak-bad in the course of 2 weeks. His D hasn't been good and he's struggled the past 2 months while pissing off his manager, seemingly because he doesn't care for McGwire but he's still young, crazy talented and doing certain things well on a whole that show off that potential such as his BB rate. If you're going to give up some major league talent and take a chance on a guy better it be a talented 24 year old who's having a bad year but is coming off a terrific season and will still be fairly cheap next year than a veteran making bank or a rental. This is a great post. But just because Edwin is leaving doesn't mean we should lump he and Thornton in the same deal for a 24 year old who has sucked of late. You can still trade Matt in another deal. Give them Edwin and a prospect or Matt and a prospect (a lousy one) for Rasmus. And that still begs the question of what to do with Rios.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) I think the more realistic answer is that Humber may be tiring and the Sox want to give him a 1 week break. Unlike other teams the Sox have the luxury of giving a guy a week break. I think Fathom noticed last start Humber was really struggling with his form falling off the mound or however Fathom worded it. I noticed that as well his past 2 starts. I thought he was struggling some. He also looked flustered out there. He's been great, but a rest might be in order. Then again, I liked Coop's comments about how he just has to suck it up and continue to pitch well.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:29 AM) He's hit two balls to the track in the last two days. It's nice to see some signs of life from him and I for one am hoping that he finally turns the corner here. We need him. NOW. We do need him (against righties only), but we need him to be batting no higher than sixth. I'd prefer seventh cause I know it won't be eighth.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) 5-3 road trip to start the 2nd half. Could've been better, but it's a start. Yup. In hindsight, the rainout sucks cause I was not impressed by the Tribe's play against us. A four-game series the third week of September? In Cleveland? Wow. That series could mean a ton for both of the teams, one of the teams or none of the teams. I wonder which scenario will be true?
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:37 AM) Thornton will be 35 at the end of the season. Who knows how long he's got. I would be fine with trading Matt and a horrible prospect from Class A who everybody knows will NOT make it for Rasmus. I fear it'll be matt and Jackson and a good prospect. That would be overpaying IMO. Also I don't even want Rasmus if he merely platoons with the loafer. Rios needs to be shipped somewhere to make room for Rasmus.
  17. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) Omar Vizquel is everything right about baseball. Great point. He's just a little too old to be playing too much. Great great play today, though. It arguably saved the game cause if Serg gives up that run we mighta lost on a walk off.
  18. Because that is overpaying for a guy who is struggling and in LaRussa's doghouse. Is it too much to ask Kenny to win some of these trades decisively???
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) The Omar man can still pick it. That ain't no gift win Greg That's true. I'll take the dropped by ball on Adam's pathetic high deep fly. There's the payback for Juan's dropped fly in April. Our pitchers deserve the win, so it's not a total gift I agree. Our pitching is usually very very good and was again today.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) Thanks for last Sox win EJ good luck in STL! It better be a straight up Jackson-Rasmus deal or I'll be pissed. DONT OVERPAY.
  21. Wow I have to reassess my feelings bout Omar. Great play to save a run for sure and maybe the game. Sergio was failing. Thanks for the gift, Cleveland, we'll take it.
  22. Not good. Easy win over a team playing lousy and we walk him.
