If somehow we are still in the race, it's scary that we'll be playing them in a doubleheader sometime from Sept. 20-22. That will now be a four-game series. Wow. We should be playing a Sunday DH.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Link That's what happens when articles are overwritten. The baseball season is so long the reporters don't generally get enough good stuff in a pre-game article to write an overwritten piece like that one was. Stupid. Can u imagine if Dunn goes 2-5 again tonight? There might be some excitement.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I feel the same way. Total class. He's had a nice season. The lesson is: If you are not the best player in the world, don't make an error or two that costs the Sox a game in April or you'll be hated on the rest of your Sox career no matter how you turn your season around. Even though the Sox have dropped so many games in so many variety of ways with just about every position player on the team a huge goat at some point.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:17 AM) I love that this thread was started by the guy who said "I'm out" in the the 3rd I was out in the first. I was pissed we had 2 on and none out and TONIGHT I wasn't in the mood to watch that s***. And indeed, we only had one offensive highlight. Some nights I can take it; tonight no way I wanted to watch that s***. But I'm glad we won. And I can hope.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 06:10 AM) They probably have the best offense in the Central. .300 hitter after .300 hitter. Pitching, however, is another story. Yes, but you don't need good pitching to beat us? If you can score 4 runs, you beat us.

I didn't realize Detroit has beaten Minnie 11 in a row. I'm kind of glad Detroit won tonight, just so Minnie realizes what it's like to get owned. That faceplanting vs. Detroit kind of nullifies their ability to steamroll the Sox and KC. Duensing, who owned the Sox n KC in recent starts, got shelled tonight. LOL at that.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:28 AM) Time to lose Vizquel for f*ck's sake. If by some miracle we did make the playoffs, I bet Omar would start at least one game in the first playoff series. But yes, it is time to lose him. Make him a coach.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) Seriously; stop getting your hopes up. Would it help if I edited the thread to say that DV might be up by 2016? Why are u so grouchy? We can dream of his big bat joining this lineup, can't we? It's easier to get hopes up for Dayan coming up than guys like Teahen ever getting a meaningful hit.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:03 AM) I think I'm starting to miss the steroid era. Give Gavin his props. He got the job done. But other than Cabrera and Hafner, wow, awful f***ing lineup Cleveland put out there. The offense (save for CQ) sucked again. That's why it's futile to get excited by this team, even when they win. Until this offense starts to consistently produce 4.5-5 runs a game, we will not go on any kinda run. True. The offense was as bad as ever, but Gavin and the relievers made the 3 runs work. We need Dayan. Still.

Five guys get our eight hits. Thank you, CQ. Dunn wakes up with two safeties. Didn't see it, but AP says Juan made a nice running catch in the eighth. If it was nice, thank you Juan. Victory is better than defeat my mamma always says.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 12:30 AM) We will win the division That would be nice.
-
Five guys account for our eight hits. Nice to see somebody hit a home run. Obviously we need more of those. We'll take the W because of our pitching and the five guys who managed to get a hit. I was shocked to hear Lexi has just four stolen bases now. Yikes. We truly are dead offensively, but thanks to our pitchers and CQ, a nice W.

I'm out. Can't take it. Two walks and same ol s***. Have fun. I ain't watching this bulls***.

Sox "uncharacteristically quiet" on trade front

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Or maybe wanting a little more consistency from someone who has the talent to play better than he does? He's made some huge strides this year though (hitting LHP and defensively) Yes but you'd think the stat people on here would be worshiping CQ cause of the stat mentioned. -

Is this been the slowest year for new threads getting started? Seems like the other forums on topical issues/movies, etc. have way more threads. -
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Honestly, how can anyone with any knowledge of baseball still bat Dunn 4th? Is it any wonder why Konerko has been so average for the past month? The bat consistently gets taken out of his hands before the game even begins by his own damn manager. Great post. I know. I understand we have to play him the next 3.5 years but bat him 7th. s***, it's not an insult. Adam knows he sucks. What's wrong with seventh?

QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) There is plenty of blame to go around............Then again a little winning streak and there will be plenty of credit to go around. However, I am beginning to doubt whether that winning streak will happen this season. It better be a helluva win streak in an "All-In Season." I'm firmly convinced the Sox gameplan is to win the division by one game or in a playoff. That's no approach to winning the s***ty Central.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I am fairly confident the Tigers will win the division. In my opinion, it's: 50% - Tigers 30% - Indians 15% - Twins 05% - White Sox The Twins seem to get rejuvenated only when they play us. Because we keep revitalizing them I'll give my rankings. Tigers 45 percent. Twins 40 percent Tribe 10 percent Sox 5 percent

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) 4th highest OPS of any AL outfielder. Thanks for that stat. Another example of us eating our own on here. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) They'll go 3-3 the next six, do nothing, and finish 80-82. Either sweep them or get swept. Either one is fine with me. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Pierre LF Ramirez SS Konerko 1B Dunn DH Quentin RF AJ C Rios CF Teahen 3B Beckham 2B Floyd P 1.) I kind of feel the same way, cept I can GUARANTEE u we ain't winning all 3, so I guess I'd take 2 of 3. 2.) LOL at Dunn hitting 4th. Me no likey Teahen been playing a lot. I picked up Carrasco for my fantasy team tonight. That hack will shut us down like all hacks do. The lineup should be Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, AJ, Beckham, Rios, Dunn, Morel. That's a WAY better lineup IMO. How hard is it to pencil in that lineup???

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) I think people forget how this board was before the World Series. It was "worse" than it is now. Fact is, if you can't put up with pessimism, you're not going to put up with Soxtalk, and this has always been true. Not really much different now, so I don't see the need for the attention seeking topics. Really? We weren't pumped on here for the WS? -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) How hard is it to understand that Cooper's weekly radio appearance is the closest thing the Score has to a weekly discussion with anyone in the Sox front office/coaching staff. Thus, why not ask him about what is far and away the most perplexing decision/non-decision that's surrounded this team in a long time? As Kylie said before, if it was just this one issue, then people would excuse Cooper's attitude. However, he's a jerk on the radio nearly every time he's on. And FWIW, the Score is playing the sound clip relating to Humber more than it is the Viciedo thing. Humber certainly has looked human the last 2 starts. If a major leaguer is gonna do radio/TV, he has to get ready and suck it up for those 10 minutes. Spout cliches if you have to, but just play the game for 10 minutes. Some like Clint Hurdle seem to enjoy it. Oz seems to enjoy it for the most part. If you hate it, don't do it. That simple. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) I wouldn't consider it a waste of time. I would be very cordial though I wouldn't expect a response. QUOTE (SoIL @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Pretty much what a good majority of people on this board do with any White Sox decision. I'm sure it's true of talk radio also. 1.) You could say you want Viciedo, KW will just say, 'Thanks for your input.' In this day and age, he can't give you some long answer. He might fear it would get posted on internet. 2.) Great post. It all boils down to, 'Just win baby.' Then they don't get the hard questions; they get the love. -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He didn't have to go off. If he's doing a weekly radio spot he should know the cliche drill well. Asked if Dayan would help or should get called up, he could say: "We're all excited about Dayan. We enjoyed working with him in spring training and last season and I'm really happy the young man is having a good season. I haven't followed his situation too closely because as you know I work with the pitchers and we've got enough to think about every day. We're all just coming to work every day trying to win ballgames. If he comes up that'd be great; if he stays where he is that's great, too. Blah blah blah. It's easy. What's he expect to be asked about on a radio show for a team that's underachieved like this one? Either play the cliche game or don't do the spot every week.
