QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) You were inconsistent, annoying, and not particularly fun to watch. Peace. If he worked faster, I think he'd be a Cy Young Award candidate. He doesn't work fast, thus is maddening sometimes. I won't miss him, but I can't deny he had a lot of fine performances.

Jackson & Teahen to TOR for Frasor & Stewart (RHP)

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) I have a feeling the Sox will actually play well in those. It's just how this team functions. As long as the pitching stays good we will be in more close games. Why can't we hit the long ball on a consistent basis? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) The best thing I can say about mark as a baseball player is that he has a great sense of humor and is very charitable. Yup. I wish him the best. But man he was an instant out in Chicago. And an error machine at times, at least when he was playing a lot his first year here.

Tiggers @ Sox 7/27/11 Gamethread (1:10 CT)
greg775 replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Amazing how one game changes everything perception wise. Now we beat Detroit four out of six right? 2-3 there and 2-3 here. Nice. It's about all you can hope for really. I realize we still have played blah baseball, but can't b**** about 4 of 6. -
I didn't see the game. Obviously excellent pitching. 13 Ks total. Wow. Danks threw that many pitches in six innings? 116? WTF. He struck out 10. Lotsa foul balls? So DeAza hits a home run in his first game of the year? Wow. How bout a little Viciedo now when his thumb feels better.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) I think I like the trade, but I also think it is part of a larger plan. We traded away an under-performing Teahen and an extra underperforming starter in E-Jax, saving the team $10M or so over the next couple years, which gives room for other moves, extensions, etc. We get a better than average late inning reliever in Frasor, and a decent starting pitching prospect in Zach Stewart. You can see the plan from here. The team probably improves a bit now or stays the same, gives Rios a kick in the rear he so desperately needs (De Aza is going to take most playing time in CF), and saves a bunch of money. Acquiring Frasor means they can trade Thornton, who is in high demand, and the Sox already have multiple good lefty relievers (and, just my view, I think Thornton will fall off a cliff soon). De Aza up, and Viciedo in the wings, means they can trade TCQ if they get the right offer, which would also save big money and I think Viciedo can be as good as TCQ anyway. Ozzie gets a speedy leadoff guy in De Aza to replace Juan Pierre, who I think is a free agent after this year (someone can correct me here if wrong). The Sox are still just as competitive this year, and better set next year, with more room to do things like re-sign Buehrle. But if they trade Danks or Floyd, that's saying they are done in 2011. That is a white flag signal. Next year's rotation would be : Buehrle Peavy Danks/Floyd (whomever is not traded) Humber Stewart/Sale/Axelrod competition Still looks pretty damn good. If Sale starts, then Hector Santiago becomes the LOOGY in the pen in 2012. I doubt this is the last trade this week for the Sox. Thornton hasn't been anything special this year. I doubt anybody will give up much for him. He was horrid early and bad as recently as last night. Maybe we can get a minor league catcher for him who can actually hit. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) An absolute piss poor use of resources by this team, which has become an increasingly alarming trend with this front office. Very true. If he's busting up the team now it makes no sense being that he was afraid to bring up Viciedo for so long. They needed to at least try that move. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Out! I think most fans would tend toward out after last night's blah game. If we win today, many may be leaning toward 'in' again. If we lose, there will be a mass rush toward the exits.

So Rios deservedly is the whipping boy here. He gets benched. So they are going to sit Mr. Salary for a hungry kid. Maybe their plan is to suspend Rios if he acts up. Can you suspend a guy and not pay him if he becomes a detriment on the bench? I would think he wants to play. But maybe he'll be fine collecting a paycheck and sitting. If he is a hothead he might have an argument with Oz as he continues to get benched. Maybe at that point they can suspend him.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) I can't believe the prevailing opinion on this board doesn't hold Kenny Hollywood accountable for this mess. He's made some horrible moves, that is for sure. Rios, Dunn, Teahen, dumping some good pitchers and losing those trades. I would think there will be a housecleaning after the season. It's a little scary that an outgoing GM will be in charge of rebooting the roster.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Is this where we're at? Appreciation for Edwin Jackson? The guy contributed nothing to this team in essence. The best thing he ever did for us was to help us dump Teahen. I wish him well but Milkman is essentially right. Never should have traded Hudson. Very very dumb. Thank goodness Teahen is gone forever.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) For this year. Going forward? I smell an early 90's like run by them. This is no hyperbole. AA shredded two of the top 5 worst contracts in baseball, fattened up their system, and got a stud 5-tool CF for two relievers and a #4 starter. He's done this in like two years. Stud five-tool CF? I dunno about that. -

At least we got rid of Teahen. It's funny how badly we wanted to get rid of Jackson. Very strange we got no bats for him. I understand the contract situation, but the team really seemed intent on dumping Edwin. Coop must think he's a bum. After all, we are 'all-in' and we dumped a guy we at one point acquired to help us win the pennant allegedly. My conclusions. - We still need offense, not pitching. - Coop must be convinced Humber is good. - Thank God Teahen is gone. He'll probably start hitting now but I don't care. - I would think Thornton is next. I can't imagine anybody giving up much for him any more. I mean he gets hit now. Like last night with that meatball on the single up the middle. - Rasmus sounds like Rios to me. I am not mad we didn't get him. Dull trade. I can't see how anybody thinks this trade helps us much. I guess the righty reliever can ease the workload on Crain and the lefty can replace Matt. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:12 AM) You really don't think all of baseball hasn't realized he's a lazy POS on the field? That's a well-worded sentence.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Are Dunn, Rios and Teahen still on the team? Then, I'm out. Great post. Those are three very very lousy baseball players.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:15 AM) A win tonight would have gone a long way. Now there's a part of me that wants them to wake up Saturday morning 7 games out, just to see what would happen the rest of the weekend. Tonight's game sure sucked. Getting four off Verlander and losing. Gotta win home games. Our team still looks like it'll never break .500. Amazing season. And still no Dayan.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:40 AM) fwiw, Frasor's contract has a 2012 club option at $3.75M Is Frasor any good or is he just another hack? -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:44 AM) from olney... White Sox GM Kenny Williams is talking about turning over entire roster. On the other hand,Twins holding firm. And Chicago is ahead of Minn. If this is true, KW is such a disappointment. He doesn't give Dayan a shot to help wake up this lineup. We already have good enough pitching if we could score runs. So he never gives Dayan the shot to ignite the team, yet he's going to suddenly turn over the entire roster?? I think he's got a screw loose. Makes NO sense.
-
I hope we don't trade Edwin to NYY in time for him to pitch against us. We know he'd throw a 2-hit shutout vs. our powerful lineup.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:46 AM) not a criticism just that there is a very good likelihood that he will tire and wear down Yeah, he was merely pointing out it is looking like Philip may not be much more than a 5-6 inning guy the rest of the way. Hopefully he'll regain a second wind. Is this reliever we are getting any good? At least we don't have to see Teahen any more.

Crain scares me tonight, but like I said u can't deny what a competitor he is.
-
Uh, oh. You guys may be right. That was way wide and high. All he gots is a fastball tonite?
-
Crain is a competitor. I'll say this even if this guy homers.
-
Damn, had him leaning. Close.
-
Stay fair. s*** that hurts.
