  1. What do yu guys think? Will there be football soon?
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) I just gotta say the eye test disputes those stats. Anybody want to back me up on this or are we just all saying Oz was a s***ty baseball player?
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Funny quote from Rosenbloom Konerko, Carlos Quentin and Starlin Castro¿ combined to go 0-4, make an error, get thrown out at the plate, and make the last out of the All-Star Game with a teammate on third. Doesn’t matter where you play, it’s still Chicago baseball. I didn't want to bag on CQ and Paulie, but that's what I thought. That last inning was so typical of our season. CQ slow as hell on the bases can't even consider scoring. Paullie with the out with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Castro's throw was a joke; gave the AL a chance. Very dull game. Some NL team is gonna be happy it gets homefield.
  4. I still say Ozzie was not a bad player. I think he was a good shortstop and a good hitter who would not take a walk.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) I think he takes too much time on the mound. There's no rhythm and it allows your fielders to fall asleep. How dumb is it for Edwin to not speed the f*** up? His style of pitching is stupid.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) Really, I don't think that's what KW's thinking at all. I'd guess he's thinking "Rios and Dunn are flat out unmovable. I have to get something out of them, there's no benefit to me to benching them, either this season or long term. This team is borderline ready to be dismantled, and I've got 2 more weeks to the deadline. Let it play out as-is, and if things don't snap back immediately, I'm going to have to be a seller." That's true, but not bringing up Dayan is a slap in every fan's face. We all know what's going to happen in Detroit. Our offense is going to SUCK. And we are going to lose. We need a jolt, a spark badly. I think this is a fireable offense making no changes. It's sick.
  7. Hey I thought of something. Is anybody gay on this board? We could do a poll. Greg775: No. But I have nothing against gays. I would love and accept my child if he/she were gay. To those straight: What kind of women u find the hottest? greg775: I'd go with the look of that girl on the one guy's sig on soxtalk.com; the girl running on the field. Wow.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) I think I don't want to watch any more bad baseball for a long-long time. I think that Twins series was the back breaker. If they don't bring up Viciedo, I agree with you. WE ALL know what's coming this weekend in Detroit. What are they afraid of in bringing him up? Pierre knows the drill. We need the other guy's pop. You just know what KW is thinking. "I put together a good lineup here with Dunn. We're still getting good to great pitching. We can win this thing if I just stay calm and realize Dunn and Rios are very very good hitters and will turn it around and we'll be fine." Fine, Kenny. Stick with the overpaid Dunn n Rios, but at least give us something to dream about in the added pop of Viciedo.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 04:26 AM) The jury did exactly what I would have done in the same situation, because I pretty much echoed the same exact thoughts before the trial ever concluded. Did Casey kill her daughter? I'm 99.99% sure she did, but the prosecution has to prove that, and they did a pretty damn shameful job of just that. If people want to be pissed off, they need to be pissed off at the prosecution with their all or nothing mentality of the presentation of the case. I disagree. I think the prosecution did enough to get a conviction. Have you heard the tapes of Anthony lying, lying, lying? For 31 days she didn't give a s*** about finding her kid. They tied in the chloroform well enough and the duct tape. Accidents don't end up getting hidden like this. She was lucky the body was so decomposed that there was hardly anything left in the poor girl. The people who say she was 99 percent guilty but couldn't convict her slay me? Why not? A lot of experts who saw every day of the trial were "shocked" at the verdict. Just convict her to life. Weren't those 2nd and 3rd charges something like "abuse and neglect" and manslaughter or something? I wouldn't have let her walk. As far as people threatening jury members, stupid. All that will do is ultimately get them thrown in jail. People should be ashamed of themselves. Get fired up about other issues in the case like passing a new law. And when she gets paid to do a long interview, I sure hope it's with a legitimate interviewer who will ask her about the "accident" and how her dad was freaking out saying it was her fault, then he went and threw the baby in a swamp in a bag. Sure, dad did that, sure he did.
  10. That was like a White Sox game. Slow runner at base in CQ can't score on that ball escaping and Paulie leaves the runners on second and third. Not that CQ's run mattered, but it was funny that the Sox stranded the runners as is our wont to do.
  11. I think we'd know by now if there was an announcement to be made on Oz or KW on Wednesday. I cannot believe they are not calling up Dayan. We'd know that by now as well probably. What a joke. If we don't bring up Viciedo now, with our offense, I truly don't care if we lose, lose, lose. It shows me KW isn't even trying. Cause if it is Oz against bringing up Viciedo, KW should at least convince him to bring him up. It's a no brainer. Our team is as listless as the AL in tonight's all star game.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) And you're naive if you don't think 99% of fathers or future fathers don't agree with me. I just come out and say it without trying to look like a nice guy. If I came home one day and saw my 6-year old son kissing another 6-year old boy, I'd go f***ing apes***. I'm not going to try to be understanding. I'm gonna be like WTF is going on and attempt to put an end to it immediately. Anybody who disagrees, I'm going to pull a Balta, you're lying to me and yourself. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) 99% is probably high, but I bet if you did a poll the vast, vast majority would agree that they would hope that their kid was not gay, regardless of their views on homosexuality and regardless of how they think they'd act as a parent in that situation. Fact of the matter is that life is incredibly difficult and parents (or people who want to be parents) want their kids to live the easiest life possible. QUOTE (jenksfart @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) I had an aunt who had sexual relations with her horse. Now I know people will think I'm joking and no I am not trying to make a connection here. I just want to know if you would accept her too? Because it was very hard for my parents, particularly my mom, because that was her older sister. I'm indifferent because I only have memories of my aunt from when I was 4 years old before she passed. You just don't care about issues when you are young. 1.) I don't know how to handle that first one, but going apes*** is probably not the answer. Do 6 year old kids start kissing out of nowhere? I wonder what an expert would do. 2.) Interesting post by Jenks. I would probably agree with it actually. Tough topic. I would think a huge majority of people would prefer their kids have a man/woman relationship, house with 2 kids. But if their kid is gay well good parents go with the flow. 3.) Geez. Sex with a horse is disturbing and I don't even know what to say. Don't do it. As far as Beckham, cmon. Writing Getz is gay was so stupid. He could have just wrote something clever not incorrect like that. How bout, Getz go home. Or Getz was here. Getz on wrong team
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) And that's also...sort of his job. If he did the kind of things that would take for this type of Sox Fan to not get on him, he'd get fired quicker than Stone got canned on the North Side. And I don't think he's 'condescending.' It's not like he goes on there and acts all high and mighty. I think he presents both sides while, of course, sticking to his stance as it being the right one. I heard a long dissertation on Pierre during a rain delay with the beat writer and it presented both sides. I think he's right about Dunn to a certain extent. You do have to pretend he's the old Dunn to a certain extent, though I would like to get his take on at least dropping Dunn to seventh in the order.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) How many teams are going to want our overpaid terrible players with long contracts? You're making it sound like there's a demand for Rios, Peavy and Pierre. None. That's why I said "creative" ways to trade. I think Jackson and Quentin for Rasmus would be idiotic. Jackson must be a headcase cause he still has good stuff (I guess Cooper can't fix this one) and Quentin is a good player.
  15. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Warning: Long post KW has made his fair share of mistakes with trading over the last 3 years, but for him that was bound to turn around. We could all say he is stupid for those things, but the only prospects he traded over the first 7 years of his tenure(2001-08) that had any semblance of success in the major leagues were Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez. Let's not forget the McCarthy for Danks, Floyd and Gio for Freddy, Quentin for Carter and Thornton for Borchard. Even this season he picked up Humber and they have turned him into a useful pitcher. KW needs to go back to doing what he does best-trading players for top prospects that are blocked by large contracts or former first round picks who haven't quite put it all together yet at the major league level, but have a large amount of talent. This is the advantage of having a GM who uses the old fashioned "scouting" mentality over sabermetrics. Someone said earlier that maybe it kept KW in check to have a low payroll, and it kept him from trading too many prospects. I'd agree. We brought up McCarthy and Anderson (though they ultimately failed whether here or elsewhere) and we brought up Floyd and Danks as well. This was under the time when the payroll was around $90-105 MM. In 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 the payroll was increasing each year, and KW had more ability to spend, he traded cost controlled guys for more expensive guys, and instead of filling holes with acquiring 23-25 year old, cost controlled players who had a lot of talent and didn't put it together yet, he went on the waiver wire/trade market/FA and aquired guys like Peavy, Rios and Dunn. What made KW a great GM for those first 7 years was the ability to find hidden gems out of necessity in order to field a competitive team. Now that he doesn't have those constraints, he has become impulsive because he has extra money that he didn't have for most of his tenure here, and apparently, he doesn't know what to do with it. I will always defend KW on the Peavy deal, because it wasn't the deal itself that was bad, it was the mismanagement of a pitcher with violent, awkward mechanics. I maintain that if Peavy doesn't come back in 2009, then he doesn't get detach the lat. Peavy himself said this was true in an offseason interview with Rongey. So many people on this site wanted Peavy to pitch those meaningless games in 09. That was so stupid to trot him out there for a month. Man, I can't believe our team has stunk for this long. That was a lousy season. Last year stunk, now this.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Edwin Jackson AND Carlos Quentin for Rasmus Jackson and Rios and you have a deal. What would that trade accomplish? Quentin isn't that bad, folks. We need to find creative ways to dump Rios and Juan and Dunn and get Dayan up here.
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Exactly Some GM will get nervous and overspend as there are plenty of teams in the race, especially in the NL. You package Jackson, Pierre and Bruney and you can get a nice deal. That's a weird package. A mediocre starter, leftfielder at the end of his career who we want to run out of town who really doesn't bring much to the table, and just another guy in the bullpen. What do you expect back? Not to mention Jackson and Pierre make good money. I have a gut feeling we'll keep Jackson. Who knows if we can dump Rios, Pierre and Dunn. Highly doubtful.
  18. Could Casey be tried in federal court since she lied to an FBI agent? Is this gaining steam?
  19. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:03 AM) Rios could be dealt without having to eat any of his salary, but you'd have to throw in quality with it I'd imagine a team like ATL would take Rios+Danks and toss a decent prospect our way I also think Buehrle signs another 3-year deal for about 9-10m/year in the offseason No way Jackson returns. Buehrle, Humber, Peavy, Floyd, #5 starter Lots of money off the books (Danks arb. value would probably be around 9m, Jackson was like 8m? Pierre's gone, Rios' albatross contract is gone Need a young talented CF who can leadoff, corners are set already, IF is set already And a decent chunk of money off the books for 2012.. Keep in mind, Sale could be in the rotation and we might have found a hidden gem in Santiago Pitching-wise, we might be 'OK', in the rotation, and stellar in the pen for 2012 IMO next year has all the signs of being what this year should've been This was OK until the last line. I hate 'wait til next year' sentiments. If we suck this year, minor changes won't make us great next year. If we play like we did the first half the second half, there should be a major overhaul. Major. The players did it to themselves. Have to break it up rather than tinker.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) I have faith and I know that a baseball season is more than one game. We seem to live and die over each game. We should be better no doubt and it's frustrating, but I still think the talent is there and hopefully we can turn it around A lot of us have been living and dieing over each series and homestand. Granted we won several series in a row with a long win streak of 4 games. I think we freak out more at series than individual games. The Sox drop them in bunches when they start going bad. So far no hot streak this season. A nice month or so of winning series consistently has been it. Our fate will be decided in Central Div. games of which the Sox have been exceedingly putrid so far.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:17 AM) I have no problem with gay people. But my son? Sorry, I'd be embarrassed and ashamed to know that my son was takin' it in the booty. Sorry to be so cynical. Cmon Jordan. You know better than to post some crud like you just posted. How old are you? Can't we make the Internet a better place? Would you post that if you had to put your real name and occupation on here?
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:02 AM) No, I wouldn't, because I'm not a bigot and would just want my child to be happy with someone they love. My father wasn't disappointed when my brother came out. Some people don't even care if they offend it seems. They just want the world to be the way they see it. Gordon could have written, Getz is a Geek or Getz Is a Stiff. It's not like he was putting together an essay on Getz, he was writing in the dirt. He showed lack of intelligence by writing what he did. Everybody should chill and this should close this thread.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) I find it hilarious that people think we'd get nothing for Jackson. SP is always expensive at the deadline and while Jackson isn't a world-beater, he can eat some innings and potentially have a dominating stretch like he did for us last year. The rental factor hurts, but like everyone has said the type B compensation helps make up for it. Someone will give you something of value for Jackson. We won't be getting a Hudson/Holmberg package, but I could easily see one desperate team giving us a top 100 prospect for him. What other SPs will be available? Which ones are far more valuable than Jackson? Like always, supply will drive up of a mediocre, yet talented pitcher. Maybe. He's definitely a load of blah if you ask me. He should copy Buehrle and work faster. At times he has good stuff.
  24. I dropped this guy from my 2 fantasy teams after he did the job Sunday. I wouldn't have minded the reverse jinx and had us shell him. I'll be picking him up again next time we face him.
