QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) peavy just talks and talks and doesnt back it up.. Can't argue with that. He's pretty darn mediocre to lousy.
-
When does Oz get fired? Is it after the game or tomorrow or ? What was the rumor? Jerry won't stand for dropping 2-3 to KC and the obligatory 3-4 to Minnie.
-
Nice acquisition, Kenny. He's got nothin today.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) I couldn't agree more. There is a reason the Twins never win in the playoffs. They develop pitchers that throw strikes, but aren't necessarily "stuff" pitchers. And there is nothing wrong with that, because they will always be consistent and keep you in games for the most part. They also develop position players that are fundamentally sound and put the bat on the ball. Over the course of 162 games in the Central Division, that oftentimes, will win 85-95 games, assuming you have a quality roster. Meanwhile, the White Sox, and KW in particular, seem to be lured in by the potentially dominant SP, the guy that can shut down any offense on any given day. However, by nature, these pitchers also have days where they are unable to harness their stuff and this leads to inconsistency. Mark Buehrle is the obvious exception to this, and to a lesser extent, Johnny Danks. From an offensive perspective, Kenny has brought in power hitting players who will have 30-40 home run seasons, but also will go through extended periods where they are practically useless, such as Carlos Quentin. What this has lead to, especially in the last 5 years or so, is a team that can beat the Red Sox and the Yankees (and that has), but will struggle with lesser opponents within the division quite often. The end result is a team that is much more capable of beating the AL powers in a 7 game series, but will struggle to win the 85-95 games to reach the postseason due to their inconsistency. For all you guys saying Rosenbloom is a fool, I don't necessarily disagree, but on this point, he is spot-on. I don't think a more accurate assessment of our club over the past several years could be made. great post. A lot more insight than merely 'rosenbloom is an idiot.' BTW, is there one local writer or reporter Soxtalk users like? Or are they all idiots?

QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) The next 10 times Ozzie will do it the same way he usually does it and another runner in scoring position will fail to score. Finally he changed his M.O. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) One possible answer: Ozzie and Kenny have decided that the best way to get Dunn on track is to pretend that everything is fine, and to do absolutely nothing which would demonstrate any loss of faith in him. Sox made their decision to bat Dunn in the 3-4-5 hole back when Kenny signed him to a four year deal, not when Ozzie flled out the lineup card for yesterday's game. But Ozzie is the one taking the heat. These new guys are TOO smart. 100 percent correct.
-
Cmon that's unfair. Ozzie at times freaks out and says s*** like that. The majority of the time he answers the f***ing questions. He is an entertaining guy and will manage in Florida prolly 20 years. We're lucky to have him, but his time has likely come. It would take a huge extension to keep him, cause Florida will give him what he wants in a long term deal.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 06:49 AM) 2010 could've won with Thome 2011 could've won without Ozzie Those are the themes of Sox Talk which we can't seem to move from. At some point you have to yawn. I got a good laugh at this. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6680701.story "E-mailer Jack Lucas makes some interesting connections in a note he sent after I took a look back at the White Sox’s waiver claim of Alex Rios. He traces the current problems to Nov. 25, 2005, when Ken Williams traded Aaron Rowand to Philadelphia for Jim Thome. He says, “Rios is the by-product of the terrible (Nick) Swisher trade, when Kenny reached to try and fill the then Sox gaping hole in CF. Ironically, Swisher's failure ultimately led to the (Adam) Dunn signing -- as Swisher could have provided the left handed middle of the lineup bat that the Sox so desperately needed. So the snowball started with the exit of Aaron Rowand has turned into an avalanche.’’ I don't bring up Rowand more often because of the eruption it causes. But it's obvious we have never replaced him and it was very bad for the team to lose him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) Please fire him. If we lose Sunday, I'd say he'll be fired. It'll be losing 2 of 3 to KC and 3 of 4 to Minnie with more Central games on the horizon. With Ozzie going to Florida next year anyway, Jerry won't feel too guilty I wouldn't think as Oz can be a color commentator if he wishes the rest of this year then sign a multi year deal in Florida where he'll be very very happy.

QUOTE (zygoat @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:01 AM) I didn't understand today why Ozzie would have Alexi bunt over Pierre so they could walk Paulie to get to Dunn. I understand that there were no outs (one out after the bunt) but to take the bats out of the two best hitters in your lineup to face Dunn seemed crazy to me (Thank god for TCQ base knock- he was pumped after that). I know that it was probably the right play with another lineup but it really bothered me today with the situation at hand. Also, why didn't they bunt AJ over after the leadoff double so Teahen could possibly hit a sac fly to win the game? They did it earlier with our best hitters so why not when the situation called again for it? I'm not manager but I would have reversed the calls if I saw both situations. Please don't be offensive in your posts. Thoughts? Adam Dunn is screwing everything up with his ineptitude. We aren't going to win squat with him batting third, fourth fifth or sixth. Yes Beckham should have bunted him over. Ozzie gave his reasons for it, said he trusted him to hit it to the right side or get a single. Beckham as we all know may have f***ed up the bunt. Usually Oz goes for the bunt as you know. This time he didn't. Ultimately Lexi slugged a game winning hit. It was not a balk or a s***ty lazy pop up. A real hit. Every manager but Ozzie would have bunted him to third, but he still would have had a slow runner on third who prolly woulda got thrown out at home on the sac fly. We won the game but people still want to second guess, which is beyond me. BTW this pitching matchup no way we should lose Sunday, that's why we probably will.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 04:48 AM) this organization has gone stale. I know. Why can't they change some things?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:31 AM) You got fired anyway, right? That's what I would've done. I probably would've taken 16 laxatives after eating 2-day old White Castle and went to work all throughout the building. No, I'm sorry. I thought I said I almost got fired. I got reprimanded. Sorry.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 04:57 AM) No, his strategy didn't work. Just as it hasn't worked for a while now. This might've been Ozzie's worst game yet. If LeBron goes 2 for 22 and the Heat win, they won in spite of him, not because of him. If Peyton Manning throws 4 interceptions (god I miss football) and the Colts win, they won in spite of him, not because of him. Ozzie was brutal today outside of the intentional walk call to I believe it was Cuddyer. Mark, CQ and Ramirez are why we won this game. Oh, and stupidity by Gardenhire for pitching to 'lexi instead of walking him to get to Omar. Thank you for the last sentence about Gardy. You proved my point how you can second guess any manager in any/every loss. I hate second guessing in victories. If you second guess a victory, to me it's just stupid. Ozzie will be the Marlins' manager next year, maybe next week, and you'll have fun blasting our next manager as well cause you can blame the manager/coach for any loss. I hope you guys still enjoyed the win today despite your bagging on Ozzie. He won the game; how can u be upset? If Beckham would have bunted we may have lost the game? He probably had a 75/25 chance of fouling the first two bunts off then striking out; a 25/75 chance of getting the sac down; prolly a 40-60 chance of bunting into a DP.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:53 AM) I see. Well next time that happens tell them to go f*** themselves. That's what message boards are for, Jordan. Can't act like that in real life.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:24 AM) Oh please. The Sox won in spite of Ozzie's awful managing, not because of it. Way too many head scratching decisions by that dufus today. Second guessing is fine. I despise it when we ... win. We won the game. His strategy worked. Many on this board want to crucify Ozzie for bunting in any inning. We won the game which means Ozzie has the last laugh on you Oz haters tonight.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) I would like to give it a go, since she lives 30 minutes away from me when she's home and her school is 2 1/2 hours away. My fall is likely going to be spent finding a full-time gig in my area of interest (which is hard to do since it is is PR) or a part-time job and another part-time internship so I'll probably be able to see her when I can on the weekends. She just is worried that the distance will be too much since she had a rough time with it before. In my experience it hasn't worked but at least I know what I did wrong last time (in being a jealous guy - jealous of my ex's life since my life sucked then) so I won't repeat the same mistakes but I acknowledge it will be tougher with distance than if we were together all of the time. Well you 2 should give it a shot. Tell her that things are going too well to not give it a shot. You guys have karma on your side since you were introduced by friends and you already have been to a family wedding. I was quizzing you before because I wondered if this was another 'friend' thing. Obviously it's not. Sounds like you have it made with a possible long term relationship here.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:30 AM) Where did this come from? Gordo has been a terrible bunter. Which Ozzie knows. Ozzie on this day didn't want to see the DP on the bunt. Granted, the bunt was the ONLY call. But our team can't bunt. Too bad we can't have a mini spring training over all star break to teach our players how to bunt and run the bases. I was really impressed at one of the Twins today who husled his ass off on a ground ball, nearly beat it out.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:16 AM) Um, OK? No, this is just getting stupid now. Kobe says f** in the heat of the moment and then, "OMG! Kobe insulted every f***ing gay person to walk the face of the earth! Off with his head!". LeBron says retarded when the stupid ass reporter asked a question that no doubt could be classified as retarded and, "Sweet Jesus! That bastard LeBron! Suspend him for a month!" And now this Gordon s***? Get some thicker skin you f***ing crybabies. Oh, and that wasn't aimed at anybody at this board. Just people in general. People are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too sensitive these days. I understand your point, but our world is too far out there now to fix it. Look, Gordon can't be that f***ing stupid to think putting 'getz is gay' in the dirt isn't a very very bad idea. There's no turning back now. We are a politically correct society over the deep end. I nearly got fired for wishing somebody a merry christmas one year. Gordon must be a dumb box of rocks if he did that.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:12 AM) I'm ecstatic that they won, as I always am when they win. Problem is that there's been not enough of that (winning) lately. I'm afraid that tomorrow they'll lose again and they'll have won 1 out of 4, at home. But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard to think positive. It's amazing how we'd consider it a miracle to go 2-2 versus Minnesota in our own park. And Minnesota does not have anything special this year. Crazy team we are rooting for. If Ozzie doesn't bat Lexi second again, he's insane. Morel is looking as bad as any of our zombie hitters.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:07 AM) It's getting to the point that calling somebody a 'nerd' is going to spark outrage. This is ridiculous. Getz and Beckham are good friends. Gordon was messing around. Simple as that. If you want to hate on Gordon for being bad at baseball, go for it. This? GMAB. I hear u but u can't do that publicly, just can't. It really does make me wonder bout Gordon's IQ.

This story is so damn sad.

Royals are beating the piss out of the Tigers. Escobar just blasted a triple to left, yes left. He can run. Tigers sure don't look special to me, just as the Twins didn't look special to me today. There's really no reason the Sox can't play with these teams except for the Sox's dysfunctionality.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 06:02 PM) Kentucky is the perfect place for him if he is going to be one and done. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I think he'll end up at UNC. Seems Maryland and UConn are bending the rules a bit and contacting him maybe a little too much. Saw Shabazz Wednesday vs the Indiana Elite... Trust me, there's not a better player in the country. He's better than Rivers and is NBA ready right now. Will be an absolute star in the pros. 1.) Yes it is. Nobody can argue that UK is the place for one and dones. With it looking like the rule will not change, UK figures to get most of the one and dones. 2.) I've seen Shabazz in person. He's one of those rare guys ready for the NBA right now. I'm all for guys going to the NBA out of high school if they are the rare ones. Shabazz is one of the rare ones. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:50 AM) Gordon's probably our best bunter, but I know it's expecting a lot for Ozzie to realize that. But like Hibbard pointed out many have screamed for Ozzie to never let him bunt again. I'm convinced he'd have failed, hopefully it wouldn't have been a DP though. Ultimately it's probably Ozzie's fault that nobody on the team can bunt, but I'm still glad we won the way we won. Somebody actually got a f***ing meaningful hit, thanks Lexi.
