QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) Are you being sarcastic? You probably but in way more hours in a work week than he does. Hell I know I do. He'll probably come around when they start winning. Cmon. We don't know his hours or what he does at the station besides just host the show. Why would he come on here anyway? It's mostly a b****fest though the Sox deserve the scorn of us. If the Sox would be less weird of a team we might have some better discussion. As it is now it's a lot of people being mad. Why would he want to take part in that? We're all probably masochists in taking part in, and adding to, all the negativity.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) I'm sick of Rios too, but just wondering how do you expect that to happen? No other team is dumb enough to claim him off waivers and do you really expect Reinsdorf to agree to spend $37 million over 2012-2014 for a player not on the roster? If you have to bench him then do it, but either way I don't see how he's not on the roster for the future time being. Personally I'd just release him, dump him. But if we can't do that for money reasons, bench him. Only play him once a week. If he complains, then suspend him and maybe we won't have to pay the money. I firmly believe we can't win anything without my 3 suggestions. Rios cannot play. He epitomizes everything that's wrong with our team. And Dunn just can't bat 3 4 or 5. He's just too bad to hit there. And Dayan just has to come up. Has to. Sorry to repeat myself, but I've given 3 specific ways we CAN improve. What are yours?? And don't just say fire Ozzie.
-
I think swapping Dayan for Pierre might help; I'd rather have it be Dayan for Morel though, but we can't do that now. Also dump Rios and bring up DeAza and platoon with Lilly in center I think would help the team a lot. I really do. Also bat Dunn eighth. You can't leave him at third or fourth or even fifth and expect this team to win anything. Just can't happen. I like my three changes and I think we could win with them. I'd also advocate playing Flowers 40 percent of the time and AJ 60 percent, okay maybe 70 percent to 30, but let Flowers play, too. I will say w/out yanking Rios out of the lineup and moving Dunn down and bringing up Dayan, there is absolutely NO WAY we will contend and likely will be done by the end of this stretch against the Central. We have a dead team right now. This team just won't suddenly turn it around without some changes, without breathing some life into it. So the key is: Dayan Now: Bye Bye Rios; Move Down Dunn. That equals winning, baby.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:00 AM) Thank you for your sound mind. You don't agree? He's advocating just shunning political correctness and saying whatever he darn well pleases. Won't work.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:36 AM) +1 The talent is nullified by the lousiness of Dunn and Rios. If we'd bat Dunn eighth and get rid of Rios and replace Juan with Dayan, then I think we actually would have a prayer.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 05:09 AM) Sox go 25-45 and finish 69-93 Ozzie is given an extension. That's a pretty good prediction. Our plodders are just going to get tired the second half, not get better. I just hope we rebuild on the fly. First step, trade Pierre to Florida in advance of Oz going there for scraps. And release Rios and Teahen. I'd take those 3 moves right off the bat. Bring up Dayan, DeAza and whoever is our third best prospect hitting wise. Think how happy we'd be if to start the second half we had Dayan in left, DeAza center and CQ right. And Flowers as our backup c. That would be a big improvement, though we'd still have the bad bat at third. It'd be nice to make a minor trade to get a serviceable third baseman. Send Morel back down til he learns to walk and drive the ball.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:53 AM) Beckham should hit .280 with .340OBP and 15-20 HR, and gazzillion double (remember how we thought he'd be a doubles machine) or else he is considered a bust. Yep, right now he's just another guy at 2B. Those guys are a dime a dozen. You can always find a second baseman who can hit .250.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:10 AM) This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins. Matchups don't matter with our team. We had Peavy going against some soft tosser I never heard of today and we didn't stand a chance. I agree with you. Just pitch whoever we want to pitch. Sox can lose to anybody.
-
People that are blaming the relief appearance for Peavy's crumminess baffle me. What if somebody pitches in the all star game in relief after pitching Saturday or something. And they come back and suck. I guess there will be those who blame the all star appearance.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 03:40 AM) or they could get a clue..... It gets annoying when bitterness over individual performances extend to attacking other aspects of an individual This gets worse than hyperbole. There are other places on the web where it goes beyond attacking a person's performance to the point where people want the player's daughter's 5 week old kitten to die a tragic death. We are not there yet but getting close. Outside of Alex Rios I'd bet most of the players do not like how it is turning out. Maybe Rios vents his frustration the wrong way. That's prolly true. I could live with just getting rid of Rios, I guess. Bring up Viciedo and figure out where to play him, as well. Just release Rios ... please White Sox. Or bench him, flat out bench him.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) You had no idea because cherry-picking sucks. Get back to me when Gordon gets his average up to .275. No comprendo.

Should I get the DVD of Social Network?

That's Paulie's take. So good.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:19 AM) Apparently so. I think we have been so centered on the bad we fail to see the life that is starting to show in some of the slow performers I had no idea Becks had been hitting. I've watched an awful lot of games lately and I thought he was as dead as everybody else in the lineup.
-
I wish they'd DL Dunn, Peavy, Rios, Teahen, Pierre for starters and replace them with anybody. I think it'd help the team. Right now all those guys are buzzkill, though Pierre has been the good Juan lately.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:31 AM) Team game, I give the white sox a D+/C- They pulled themselves out of the tailspin and despite some gaping holes in the lineup, they clawed their way back to .500 before falling back again. Without a boost to the lineup and bullpen (Viciedo and Reed get my votes) and a semblance of normality from Dunn, I fear we're just going to watch them swim upstream for the rest of the year. I have very serious concerns about Humber's ability to repeat his performance in the 2nd half, and that alone could be devastating, given that Buehrle is the only other consistent starter. Enjoy the break. True. Humber's last start was ho-hum(ber).

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) new slogan - Embrace the Fail Embrace the Fail (especially against lousy Central Division Teams).

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) Good hitters don't have a career .626 OPS, people like Chris Getz do. If you guys don't think Ozzie was a good player, bless you. I think he was a good player, hitter and fielder both. Getz right now is as good a hitter as Beckham which is scary.
-
QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) That makes no sense at all. It will never end and it's here to stay, so there's no point calling it stupid and fighting against it? Wow. I'm sure glad we take that attitude towards...oh, I don't know...communism? Just for starters. Political correctness is an idiotic idea designed to protect the emotionally weak. I'm not going to acquiesce to it simply because a lot of other people have. Then you will get in a lot of trouble in society. Beckham's lucky he didn't get fined/suspended. Can't do this stuff, just can't.
-
The Sox SHOULD ... Fire Ozzie tonight and Kenny tonight. Release Rios over the break and eat the contract. Bring up Dayan and have him play third; Morel can come in in late game situations if Dayan can't remember how to play third. Trade Pierre (at the moment you trade him, put Dayan back in left). Send down Beckham if he doesn't hit the first two weeks after the break. Shut down Peavy. These things all should be done IMO.

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) Political correctness is gay. Seriously though, when does the politically correct crap end? Why are people so sensitive? Everyone wants to act like stuff like Beckham's comments and stuff like Michael Richard's dumb comments a few years back are huge problems to those communities, but are they? Did Michael Richards cause another black teen to get pregnant or drop out of school or join a gang? He acted like a horrible fool, for sure, but he didn't contribute to the actual problems of black Americans. And Gordon Beckham, with his silly joke to a personal friend, did not contribute to the actual problems of gay Americans. If gays are worried about their legitimacy, they should be far more concerned with the debauchery of their pride parades, among other things (AIDS, anyone?). Those pride parades do more to damage the reputations of homosexuals much more than perjorative yet joking uses of the term "gay" do. I'd be equally disgusted by a straight pride parade (how ridiculous does THAT sound?) that behaved in such a way. All I see in this story is one crappy second baseman making a bad joke about another crappy second baseman. He should have put Getz is a Geek or something. You just can't do what Gordon did. Can't you see that? The political correctness will never end. It's now here to stay.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) The Sox have a better record on the road than at home. There's only 70 games left and the post ASB starts out with 9 road games then Det, Bos, and NY for 10 at home. We will know very shortly if there is any life in this team. The Sox showed on this homestand there is zero life in this team. They played two horrible divisional foes and got owned. I truly believe KC will pass the Sox and we'll finally finish last.
-
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:26 AM) Nothing will happen. They're in a horrible division and only 5 games out. That means nothing. They can't beat anybody in their own division. I do think Oz will be fired over the break. I hope the whole staff is gone. You just know Detroit will sweep us in the first series after the break in Detroit. s*** they just took 3-4 from KC without breaking a sweat in KC and the Royals kicked our ass 2 of 3 in the Cell. The Sox are one of the worse teams in the American League. They have many many holes and are not contenders right now. No way.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) I didn't want to pay to watch Ozzie when he was actually playing. He was pretty bad. Cmon. Give me a break. He was a very good fielder and good hitter, though he didn't draw many walks.
