QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Every guy you want to trade other than Dunn has some level of no-trade protection as well. I would think they'd be happy to leave.

Why not? The official "Alex Rios Sucks" Thread

Oops I forgot in my long post. Yes Rios sucks. He's so bad. Please trade him. Although he's not as bad as Dunn. Rios actually has contributed to a win or two as I recall. Dunn has done nothing positive. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 24, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Wow, I can't even imagine the b****ing on this website if we were to rebuild. We would be terrible for years to come with no guarantee of this amazing future everyone associates with rebuilding. We're better off going for the division and hoping to maintain our large payroll. That's really the only way to compensate for our bad minor league system and have a chance of competing. I'm not prepared to be the Pittsburgh Pirates for the next seven years. Remember, we won't go over slot, don't have much of a presence in Latin America, and don't have enough tradable assets to replenish our system. We'd have to suck Pirates style to get the young talent to needed to successfully complete a rebuild. You say we're better off going for the division and hoping to maintain payroll. Who's going for the division? This team has been out of it almost the entire season and has shown no signs of being a division contender unless for some reason we have Cleveland's number and beat them all year. I mean win almost every game against them. We still can't beat the Twins head to head and have only played them twice. They will dominate us again this year. We can't beat Det. We'll go .500 at best vs. KC. Sox are toast, so why not dump salary??? Try something different and that means dumping Rios, Peavy, Dunn, Mark or Jackson and AJP. Start the reloading now. Dump as much salary as you can. -
I think Beckham should lead off. We don't have a real leadoff hitter so let Gordon do it. Juan should be traded for nothing if and when the firesale begins. You'd think somebody might want him.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ May 23, 2011 -> 06:02 PM) Mature... I hope so; he's almost 30 years old. His problem is that he's just a poor base stealer and he can't bunt. That's not really a leadoff-type hitter. Damn I didn't realize Lexi was that old.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:21 AM) No one is going to want to take on Rios and Peavy's contract right now. You're most likely going to have to eat a very good portion of that money, which, if that is the case, is not really accomplishing anything since you have no one waiting in the wings that they are blocking. Why wouldn't Boston and NY want Peavy and Mark for sure? And we make them take Rios and Dunn. Demand it for the deals to go through. Those teams have money to burn.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:44 AM) The bold is what bothers me the most. I don't remember him ever looking so out of shape. It's called being fat and happy with a nice contract. Problem is some ballplayers live the good life (eat, drink in offseason) when they get such contracts.

Except when he's wearing a White Sox jersey apparently.

OK I was thinking about this tonight after the loss and Cleveland's win. Sox main goal ASAP should be to deal Rios, Peavy and Dunn. If it takes til the All Star break, fine, but start working on it now. Get rid of those guys and try to reassess what to do with the money. Also trade Mark or Danks or Jackson, one of the starters. I guess Mark would be the smartest to deal. OK you get rid of all that salary in Mark, Rios, Peavy and Dunn. Start rebuilding from there. Hopefully the Yankees and Red Sox will give us something good for Peavy/Dunn/Rios and Mark. Those 2 teams should want all those guys. I guess I should include Paulie but for sentimental reasons I keep him on the team. Obviously Mark is an all time favorite as well. There's absolutely no reason to move forward with Rios, Dunn and Peavy IMO.

QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) It really is sad when their 2 injured hitters come right back off the DL and start producing right away (Cruz and Hamilton). Dunn came off the DL and has gone completely south. I know it is apples and oranges but man how bad can Dunn get? So bad that it's time to start shopping him. Sox drop another game to Cleveland. Please start selling off the parts. It's rebuilding/reloading time. At least trade Rios, Dunn, Peavy and start thinking about better ways to use that money!
-
I hope Kenny is at least starting to develop a game plan for trades. You can get a lot done during the season when contenders are desperate. Poor Danks. He's on pace to lose 20.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 23, 2011 -> 03:41 AM) Buehrle is going to get more than 8mil a year, so if that's really the case, he's gone. Yeah, heaven forbid we'd pay him what he's worth on the market when we overpay Dunn and Rios.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2011 -> 02:23 AM) Greg, how can you or anyone possibly know where the Indians are going to finish at this point? Would anyone be surprised if they went 8 and 18 in June? If they were chasing a Minnesota team or even a Tiger team with that record, I would be at least mildly concerned with such a large lead at this point, but they're not. We can agree to disagree. I'm just saying at some point you are finished when you are behind a certain amount of games in the loss column. All I pointed out was we were on life support and HAD to keep winning series. I'm saying we cannot come back from 14 back and I'd be in favor of a firesale at that point. I'm all for winning series. I've been loving it. Watching a lot of baseball lately.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2011 -> 02:16 AM) You are just being ridiculous. There are 115 games left and we are chasing an unproven, surprise team. Life support? You can be as dramatic as you'd like, but that doesn't mean any of it is true. Let me ask you a question. Do you really believe if we fall 14 back in the loss column after this road trip we are going to win the division? I am hopeful of a good road trip ... but that could easily happen and the Sox would be finished. I mean get real ... with Sox 11 back in loss column, yes I'd call it life support depending on what happens on this trip with us and Cleveland. I mean what is there to disagree about?? You don't come back from 14 back in the loss column just because you want to.
-
Since this is a winner thread, I'd like to give kudos to Juan Pierre. 3 hits. And of course Lexi and the pitching.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 23, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) 5-0-1 in their past 5 series. That is getting it done. Great baseball but Sox still 11 back in loss column entering a killer road trip. Team is on life support IMO even though most of you disagree. No margin of error. Sox must keep winning every series.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) Juan Pierre is a DFA candidate if anyone actually wanted him, and people's backups to their backups are outplaying him. The Rangers had 3 of their OF's out when we faced them, they were on their 6th OF (Endy Chavez), and Chavez completely outplayed Pierre. This DFA stuff is crazy regarding Juan.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) Is anyone else positive we're going to come back and get in 1st at some point this season only to blow it in September? Not positive. There's no margin for error with the way Cleveland is playing. This road trip is a killer on paper. Once again, if circumstances happen where we have a crap trip and Cleveland has a good nine games we could be 14 out in the loss column and you don't come back from that.
-
Pierre saves Paulie an at bat and gets him an RBI.
-
Royals are getting clobbered at home. Like many of you said, they have turned back into the Royals. Now can Cleveland do the same ultimately?
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 22, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) Alexei having one of those "when your hot everything goes right" feelings at the plate. And is anyone else noticing Ozzie having hitters swing at 3-0 more this year? I haven't caught alot of games, but it seems everytime I do, someone is swinging at 3-0 which has rarely happened in his tenure. I'd like to see a chart of times in the game when he lets them swing. With a 4-0 lead and a hot batter in the fourth inning, let him swing. If you need baserunners, take.
-
The thing I hate about message boards are when a guy is deemed pathetic like Pierre, he can have a good game and people still bag on him. I hate that so much.
-
Awesome, hit em where they ain't. Nice by Lexi again. Four ribbies.
-
I don't like Pierre, but the Pierre haters need to shut up. His numbers are not as bad as Dunn's.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Yeah, if only we were 7 games back instead of 9, it'd be...a whole different season? I go by the loss column.
