QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:56 AM) Teahen just appears to be the epitome of "loser". Losing just follows him around. He looks the part too...just a dude that walks around with a black cloud hanging over his head bringing everyone down with him by just entering a clubhouse. Sad...seems like a nice guy...but he's just a L-O-S-E-R. LOL at how this thread is becoming angry. We won folks! Keep winning series, baby steps back to .500?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:45 AM) Small series, # of games-wise, but big series in terms of outcome. You lose these two, yer 12 out. You win 'em both, yer 8 out. That is a big, four game difference right there, not only in the standings, but in the state of mind for everyone involved. A rather good two weeks under our belts now, so hopefully we are slowly but surely on our way to bigger and better things! Well said. Can't complain about the sweep. And Cleveland was hot. Hopefully the Sox will remain fired up for the NL this year as they were last year. One at a time, baby. -

Nice to put Cleveland in its place, so to speak, after the Tribe bludgeoned KC in KC. -

Sox are playing great tonight, hope Pena doesn't ruin the mo jo. Sucko. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) Coming off this surgery, no one's offering you anything good for him with that contract until maybe middle of 2012 at the earliest, and that's if he's a leading Cy Young candidate from here until then. As a fan, who doesn't live in Chicago and can't come to games anyway, I shouldn't really care about the Sox financial state, since I don't have to pay the outrageous ticket/parking prices. But if money is indeed important and Peavy has several good starts before the break, he'd be the starter to dump if any team will take on the whole salary. If as you say we can't get anybody good in return, that sucks, but the smart play if you are a businessman would be to sell the injury-prone player and move on with that money.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) If he pitches like this through July, I bet someone would take the risk if you're selling. Of course, if he pitches like this through July, the Sox are darn likely to be in the race. It seems to me a no brainer, but the key is to try to get something good for him besides unloading the salary. How the heck is he going to stay healthy? He's going to be overworked on nights he pitches well, cause he refuses to come out of the game. This bulldog is, in my opinion, going to be too injury prone and stubborn the rest of his career. I love him but if it's true the Sox need the money, deal him in a Greinke-like deal. Get good stuff in return.

QUOTE (balfanman @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I try to avoid Phil Rogers, but I did happen to click on his article in the Tribune today and thought that he actually had something interesting. First, he mentions that K.W. only plans on going with a six man rotation for another 2 weeks or so. I do not know if this is true, or how he knows this, but it could lead to some interesting trade possibilities. Has anyone from the Sox said this? If, big if, Peavey is back, what do you do? He mentions that both the Yankees and Red Sox are desperate for pitching, along with other clubs. Which one of the 6 starters do you trade to bring back some needed offensive help. This could turn into an even bigger trade if you include one of our offensive starters for maybe a leadoff hitter if Pierre continues to struggle. I would probably go with Jackson as the one to move, but he would command the least in return. Danks would be a strong possibility too. This is easy. You trade Peavy if somebody is dumb enough to take the risk. And I love the bulldog Peavy. But if you can dump the salary, you dump it.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 19, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) You know what you should do? Cry about it. Cmon. Don't worry, be happy should be the motto when your team wins. I'm shocked the Randy Quaid character in Major League hasn't made people realize when they need a quaidlude. I can be as negative as anybody but when we win, baby, there's no worries.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 19, 2011 -> 03:30 AM) Eat it all you doubters that have been b*tching about the guy since last season. He's an Ace and you better recognize. I don't know why doubters are considered haters. I've always felt great about Jake's attitude. s***, he probably would have killed Ozzie had Ozzie removed him from the game in the ninth. It's just the frustrating production because of his injuries. Obviously I eat it tonight. But I feel great for Peavy and hope he can stay healthy. Most of the doubters have at least said we respect the guy's grittiness. He is a bad ass.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:49 AM) Indians about to win again. We really need to get these next two. Lose both and fall behind 12 games and the white flag should be a raised. Definitely. It's amazing how Cleveland is trying to win a pennant before the all star break. They just abused KC in KC. Now they are coming to Chicago hoping to pretty much end our season. Sox have to treat it like playoff games.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ May 17, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) Every time I hear the name McPhearson, I think of the 3 Stooges short called the Ghost Talks Hilarious. I love the Stooges. Sounds like McPherson is a Stooge. How hard is it? Bring up Dayan, cut Pierre, start to shop Dunn and Buehrle so the minute our esteemed GM thinks we're out of the race (which we are) we can start the firesale. Getting somebody to overpay for Mark and Dunn would be a good start.
-
Yeah, just play Morel. He's the guy that forced Dayan to move to the outfield anyway.
-
I still feel great about this series, but Game Two is gonna be a different animal. The Heat are gonna bring it. Cmon Bulls, just build on Game One. Play with the same intensity and do what you've got to do to win this series - win four home games!!
-
Omar isn't the everyday answer. Tell me again why they moved Viciedo to the outfield? He couldn't beat out Morel or his defense was awful at third? Why move him to the outfield if he can't play outfield better than Juan?
-
I wanted to start a new thread, but figured there's already a Dunn thread, but I couldn't find it with the search engine. Anyway, flame me all you want, but when do we consider this man mountain a complete and utter flop?? He is killing this team. Has he had a key hit all season?? The man is a pathetic baseball player at this juncture. This man has offered nothing to the White Sox. Zero. (now the apologists can say he had the health problem and will be fine).

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 17, 2011 -> 04:26 AM) The only reason Juan has a roster spot is because they think he can leadoff. The minute you move him from that position you need to evaluate why is he out there in the first place. Having him out there fumbling around in LF is a waste. The only thing batting him 9th does is to avoid having one of your worst hitters getting the most ABs. I say you bring up Viciedo and put him in LF. It's going to be great when Tank finally replaces Juan, but we're still going nowhere because our outfield defense is going to be gawdawful. Unless Tank hits .375 with 40 homers.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2011 -> 04:24 AM) greg, you're not understanding me. From a pure talent standpoint, Rios is off the charts. The production doesn't come anywhere close to matching the talent. Juan Pierre has none. It's not surprising that he sucks. Get what I'm saying? Yeah I get it. I just don't even value Rios' talent as high as some Sox fans do. He's hitting .197 through 152 at bats this season. He has 12 walks. He has 108 homers in seven seasons with 155 stolen bases. So he hits 15-20 homers a year and steals 25 or so bases. He's OK. He had a pretty good year for the sox last year. He's definitely not an elite baseball player. Definitely not worth that contract. I don't know who I'd compare him to. I was gonna say Ellis Burks, but Burks was a much better hitter now that I look at his stats.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:58 AM) Rios is perplexing. Juan Pierre is just a bad baseball player *cue Shack getting upset because I called Pierre bad and I'm not in the major leagues*. But Rios is as gifted as just about any player in baseball outside of the Uptons. Oh cmon. Rios is not a good baseball hitter. He's proven that already in a Sox uniform.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) You're right that other guys deserve serious boo's out there. Rios and Beckham especially deserve an earful. You can let Dunn pass because of the surgery and he seems to be coming around and is a proven player so he should break out of it soon. Rios and Becks have no excuse for their play. Maybe Beckham just isn't as good as we all thought he was after 2009. And all of this coming after a 6-3 road trip! I really wonder how many boo birds will be out tonight as they do deserve a FEW claps for a nice road trip where we usually get slaughtered. I think there should be positive energy cause of the 6-3 trip. That's why I initially didn't like the idea of booing Juan. I mean that's stupid buzzkill in the first inning. If this team is going to creep back to .500 it has to keep winning series. Texas is capable of sending us back to s***sville. We need to play good baseball to beat Tex. Booing is bad mo jo.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Everyone else you mentioned brings at least one thing to the table whether it's good defense, higher OBP, or power. Juan literally offers nothing at all. Why don't you understand that? And at his age it's not like he's going to become faster and start stealing more bases or develop a stronger arm to throw guys out. I do understand he sucks maybe even worse than those guys I mentioned, but those other guys have been huge reasons our team is buried as well. I don't like a class act like Pierre catching ALL the venom of our fans and have a cop out of booing him that most of the boos are for Ozzie. Man up and boo Ozzie if you hate Ozzie's handling of Juan.
-
Juan Pierre does suck at baseball. He deserves to bat ninth, but so do a lot of other guys. I guess we could lead off Rios or Beckham. Rios is hitting .201 with 10 RBIs. Awful. Gordon is hitting .222 with 13 RBIs. Awful. Adam Dunn, who is making so much money it is incomprehensible, is hitting .210 with a grand total of four home runs. He has a whopping 16 RBIs. AJ is hitting a stellar .246 with one home run and 12 RBIs and six whopping runs scored. Whoopie. Those are four guys who start for us and totally suck as well.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Because when you boo Pierre then he'll know exactly why fans are unhappy. He will? He will know the fans hate him. Ozzie has nothing to do with booing him. Answer my other question, pls. Why are guys like Dunn and Beckham also not being booed? And even AJ and Rios and Morel? And Pena? And Matt? There should be equal opportunity booing. Arguably Juan is just one of many bad players right now.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Some of it is, yes. But most of it is for having him in that position where he doesn't belong anymore. Much like Dewayne Wise a couple years ago. He was instantly booed for being the opening day leadoff hitter. Did he deserve it? Probably not, but it was more about Ozzie putting him in that position. I'm just saying fans have ample opportunity to boo Ozzie, so why not just wait til Ozzie comes out and boo him?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) I don't boo anyone, and I'm not going to the game. I'm just saying when it happens tonight, and it will, it's more for Ozzie than Pierre himself. I don't get your position on this. The boos are for Juan Pierre if one is booing Juan Pierre.
