Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Squert if you are gonna have a Fire Ozzie sig, at least add who you want them to hire to it.

Jackson would accept move to pen
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) I don't think all 6 pitchers would give that same response. Well if Jackson is a story worth writing, they should ask Danks, Floyd and Humber to be sure. Mark and Peavy aren't options.

Jackson would accept move to pen
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) Props to Edwin Jackson for stepping up and for being willing to do what's best for the team. I'd like to see the Sox re sign this guy and keep him around. No offense, but don't you think almost any Sox starter would have said the same thing when approached and asked by a writer? Except for Mark, maybe. I would assume Danks would have the same quotes if asked about going to the pen. Basically jackson said he didn't want to do it, but would do it for the team. Who is not going to say that publicly? It's not like he went to all six and asked all six.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2011 -> 05:26 AM) I won't watch a second of it either. 1 on 3 is all you need to know of why. It's already rigged. It's been rigged since those 3 rigged it last july. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 28, 2011 -> 08:32 AM) Also, after thinking about it, Scottie is dead to me. Absolutely dead. If you think it's rigged then how can you watch the Bulls play? I mean it's pointless to watch any year if it's rigged. Do you really believe it's fixed? If it is ... wow. As far as Scotty, take this with respect, but grow up. Scottie Pippen is dead to you? For one thing he said? He ain't dead to me. Scotty rules! I can disagree with his take, but he gave me years of enjoyment. He was a stud.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 05:18 AM) what do you do with Teahen? Ugg. I forgot about him. Get rid of him or make him strictly a lefthanded pinch hitter. Strictly. We need Tank. We don't want Teahen.

I DO BELIEVE THAT IS A WHITE SOX WINNER!
It's fun the rare nights I completely miss the game, take a check at the box score and see us with more runs than them. Humber and great hitting tonight. Lexi!

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
I think Dunn and Rios deserve some regular bench time. Rios should split duty with Lilly, sit him against righties you think he has no chance against. Dunn should not play against lefties ... period. I mean he can't hit a lefty, so why start him? Pinch hit him in games where lefties get shelled and righties come in.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 04:16 AM) Are we watching the same guy? Plus curve, below average to average change, and below average fastball. However, his command has been solid, he changes speeds, and works fast. He's like a less polished, right handed Buehrle, except he has a plus pitch (but also a screw in his elbow). He could be a solid 3 or 4 guy. But I tend to think this is more of a hot streak/first time around the league than anything else. Would I trade him if someone in need like the Yankees offered something good? Yes. But I would have no problem letting him pitch while he's hot and hold onto him in the future as well to see what he is all about. Also, either I have bad eyes, or it looks to me that Humber's frame has changed quite a bit since Rice/TJS. He looks relatively skinny with not much in the legs. Not exactly a work horse frame (not to say he can't be a work horse). At the very least Humber looks like he can make a living in the big leagues in some capacity if he stays healthy. There are a lot of awful, awful middle relievers and set up guys in the bigs. He should be able to hang around if he stays healthy. He's definitely been great. I see the AP story led with asking him if he should be on the all star team. That could be the kiss of death for Mr. Humber, who answered it beautifully. By JIMMY GOLEN AP Sports Writer BOSTON (AP) — The way he’s been pitching, a reporter told Phil Humber, people are starting to talk about him making the All-Star game. The White Sox right-hander just shook his head. “You don’t hear me talking about it,” he said after shutting the Boston batters down for seven innings Tuesday night to lead Chicago to a 10-7 victory over the Red Sox. “I don’t really have any comment on that (the All-Star game). I’m just thankful for the results so far.”

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 03:51 AM) If the Sox sweep the Sawx it would be a 5-5 road trip which very respectable all things considered. Even if they just win the series, 4-6 on this brutal stretch is fine. I don't think 4-6 is fine. If you want to win the division, a .500 road trip is acceptable anything under .500 is not good.

Sox vs BoSox Game Thread 5-31-11
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 04:18 AM) that wasn't the point...the point being in games past Humber wouldn't have even gone out in the eighth...and bring in Gas Can Ohman with guys on 1st and 3rd. You KNEW they were gonna score. 10-1...bring him in at the start of the inning. Have no problem with Ohman...perfect spot for his worthless ass...not with 2 guys on. I had no problem with Bruney... So your guys problem was with Humber starting the 8th? I think that's a pretty lame thing to be mad about tonight. Who cares if Ohman starts the inning versus 2 guys on with that big a lead? People that blame the manager all the time and rarely blame players confuse me. Recently somebody on the game thread was saying Ohman was good again. These relief pitchers are a joke. We can't even wrap up an easy blowout, had to make it interesting because of our rag-arms.

Sox vs BoSox Game Thread 5-31-11
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) He's been arguably the worst every day CF in baseball. Which is disgusting considering his physical talents. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 01:57 AM) no matter what, nice momentum shift coming into tomorrow. way to take your foot off their throat. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 02:10 AM) I follow these game threads from time to time and it sure seems like alot of Ozzie should have done this, KW should be fired for that. Ozzie f'd Humber. No he didn't. Who did you want him bring in with a 10-2 lead. You can't use Thornton, Crain, and Santos everyday. Here's a novel idea, how about Ohman do his job and get a lefty out? The Sox just won 2 in a row in Boston and people are b****ing about Bruney, a guy who is going to be here about a week. 1.) Rios is bad. Very bad. 2.) Maybe. I don't know about that momentum stuff. You could look at it the other way, like Boston feels discouraged it didn't complete the comeback. You're probably right though. We'll play a s***ty lineup. We rarely sweep people. 3.) Best post of the thread.

Changes today - McPherson DFA-ed, Harrell sent down
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) I can see someone characterizing the Rios waiver claim and even the Peavy trades as reckless. I tend to think of them as calculated risks that have yet to pan out, but that is just me. For Rios in particular, I guess I just get peace of mind from having a solid defensive CF out there, especially with Q manning RF much of the time. Do we not all remember what a disaster CF has been for this franchise for much of the recent past? I firmly believe he will earn his paycheck for a few years of this contract. He will probably underperform a few years as well, but I don't believe his signing will end up being a complete bust. I think he's totally a bust. We've won nothing with him and he can't hit the ball. Anderson could field if we wanted a .200 hitter who can field out there at $1 mill a year.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) This one is real simple. The amount of oil produced by humanity as a whole has essentially stayed totally unchanged since 2006. Prior to that, it was constantly increasing, but since 2006 it has plateaued. This has happened despite the price of oil going through the roof multiple times since 2006. Right now, there is almost no oil in the world that can't be extracted at a profit, yet there is no additional oil being processed. Oil discoveries peaked back in the 1970's, and humanity hasn't discovered enough oil to keep up with production since then. Known oil reserves have been declining since the 1970's. This is the most oil that the planet can produce. What happens now is that as economies try to grow, if they try to grow using oil, then the price of oil goes up. The only way the price of oil can stay under control is if the global economy shrinks, as it did in 2008. Oil cannot be pulled out of the ground any faster than this. Thanks for the take. Interesting.

Ozzie's "old school" style killing this team
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 31, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Last year's World Series champion was 3rd in the majors in sacrifice bunts, and the AL champion led the AL in sacrifices. Idiots. This post says it all. Please make it its own thread and lock it forever. The bunt is a VALUABLE TOOL you FOOL. Sorry, couldn't resist the rhyme, didn't mean it to come out angry.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (T R U @ May 31, 2011 -> 07:27 AM) Its not absurd, and Danks isn't losing 20 games anyway so that's irrelevant.. Your best arms should be the ones you're counting on to give you the most innings and Buehrle is by far the worst arm in the rotation.. Come on Rowand, its not even a full run difference how can you consider that pretty big? And anyways, im not saying that I want Buehrle to go to the pen, I am saying that IF they even eventually do that I would prefer that it be Mark who goes.. Mark may be the worst arm in the rotation; he's the best f***ing pitcher in the rotation. How can anybody on this board prefer Edwin Jackson to Mark? Edwin Jackson is an underachieving joke. If Danks keeps pitching like last outing, he'll lose 20 easy.

And that's a White Sox winner!!!!!!!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 31, 2011 -> 05:20 AM) Jesus, 4-6 is a good f***ing stretch from the White Sox, and it's the beginning of the end for the Indians. That's what I was thinking as well. We are 11 or 12 out in the loss column, do you guys realize that if the Indians go 4-6 in 10 game stretches how hard it will be for us to catch them? We need to play amazing baseball. Of course we still play them head to head a number of times. If we totally ruled our division, we could get back in this thing. How many of you are confident we will rule our head to head division games??? Minnie owns us; you know the drill against the rest of the teams.

Ozzie's "old school" style killing this team
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 31, 2011 -> 06:15 AM) No one who doesn't have "Pierre" or "Vizquel" on the back of his jersey should ever be bunting on this team. They are the only ones who may actually lay down a good bunt, and it could actually result in a basehit with good enough placement. Everyone else has the ability to drive the ball in to the gaps. Everybody else also has the ability to bunt into a triple play. Horrible bunters.

Why no changes..............Really!
QUOTE (Maxwell @ May 31, 2011 -> 06:56 AM) Rest of the year. And in his career he is .297 hitter. So why is that unlikely? I'm not a big Pierre guy, but I commend you for pointing out that he's actually been pretty good of late and not a big problem.

Ozzie's "old school" style killing this team
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 04:23 AM) Bunting as much in the AL as this team does is stupid in general. If we could get clutch hits you guys wouldn't mind the bunt as much (when the bunt does work n advances runners).

Ozzie's "old school" style killing this team
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 31, 2011 -> 04:08 AM) So why keep calling for it? I see your point. I definitely don't think Sox hitters know how to execute the bunt.
-
Why no changes..............Really!
This thread is about changes. Right now we should do this: Never start Dunn against a lefty and use today's option when lefties pitch. Also sit Rios against select righties. Rios should not play more than 4 of every 7 games. Lilly gets the expanded PT. It'd be nice to bring up Tank then we could add Juan to the "sit him against lefties brigade"

Ozzie's "old school" style killing this team
You guys that hate the bunt kind of slay me. You can't reinvent the game of baseball as much as you may want to. The bunt is called for in many many instances, it's just that the Sox can't bunt and never have been able to bunt since the 60s.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (T R U @ May 31, 2011 -> 03:10 AM) Yeah, we can just do what a moron would do and send one of Jackson/Humber/Danks to the pen instead and completely destroy the trade value they would have as starting pitchers.. Buehrle: 73.2 IP - 82 H - 19 BB - 35 K - 3.91 ERA Jackson: 68.0 IP - 79 H - 25 BB - 59 K - 4.63 ERA How is that any case that its outrageous to suggest MB should be the one to go to the pen? Because hes been here 12 years? Theres no point in adding Danks because he is the most likely trade candidate and it would be beyond foolish to put Humber, your best pitcher, into the pen.. Jackson still can have trade value, and he has much better stuff than Buehrle and sorry, but the numbers aren't that much different to suggest that its the wrong move.. Mark is not a relief pitcher; that's why it's so absurd. That just can't happen. He's too established for that. Jackson is the best bet. Though Danks should be put in there ASAP to avoid a 20 loss season and get him some confidence back.
