Garfien reports Sox might "revisit" a Thome return
I sure hope Big Jim does not sign with Cleveland. s*** he'd probably hit 10 home runs alone against us.

Right Field
I wouldn't mind Ankiel. Can he field?

Sox buyout Dye
Dye had a damn good career for a 17th round draft pick. Bill James still projects 30 homers for him next year. Texas will take that. Let's see what production we get out of right field. Hope it can rival Dye's 30 homers and 90 ribbies.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
Yes but at 2B he can platoon with Nix and if he sucks big dog, we can use Nix more often than Teahen at 2B. If he sucks at third are we gonna move Gordon back? I just became a lover of Gordon's defense as the season progressed at 3B. I really don't understand moving him to second.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
This just sucks. Beckham had turned himself into a damn good defender at 3B. Teahen sucks at third base. Move f***ing Teahen to second and platoon him with Getz. WTF with Teahen being named our third baseman? Why does KW love Teahen who can't field and is not a good enough hitter to be playing 3B?? He should be platooning with NIX at second. My god. So defensively both 3B and SS next season will be atrocious on paper. I also don't like the idea of facing Fields and Getz in so many games. They will have so much motivation against us. KC really should try to sign Dye on the cheap and have him conclude his career there where he played before. They'd have 3 Sox in the starting lineup plus Olivo. Weird. To those of you who I respect ... please comment on what sense it makes to put Teahen at 3B and Beckham at 2B instead of putting Teahen at second platooning with Nix. I don't understand it at all. Our starting pitchers may be pulling their hair out next year when balls are hit on the ground.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
I think we all will be thrilled if Teahen and Kotsay are our primary bench guys. Please Kenny make that happen.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
Good post, southside. For what it's worth, I'll let you know what the KC version of Bill James thinks of the deal. I sent him an email. He's a saber guy and I'll send over what he thinks of the deal if he responds to me. I hope we're building up the bench first and making deals for regulars later.

Per Reifert, Mark Kotsay given 1 year deal
You said it best. I'm happy with the signing as long as your statement holds true.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
Have you seen Mark play right field? He is a lousy outfielder and assuming Dye returns to the way Dye used to hit, the tradeoff would be horrific in right field. I'm assuming Teahen will be a utility man for us; that's what I'm hoping. I'm just telling you what I know here. Royals fans do not like Teahen. He is not an everyday player on a team with hopes of winning anything significant. Teahen would be a very useful backup however as many have pointed out. I'd rather have him as a backup than say, Nix. My question to you is: Should Royals fans be hopeful Fields can become something? I'm not flaming, just asking those of you to comment on Fields outside of Chicago. Is there any hope for him to be be good?

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
The Sox hopefully will say Teahen is a super sub. A tradeoff Dye for Teahen in right field would be f***ing ridiculous. It would be a huge step backward for our team.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
I hope the Sox think Getz sucks; we know the Sox think Fields sucks, cause Teahen is not a regular on a major league team. Guys, I've watched him for years here. Teahen is the kind of guy who starts for a sub-par team. I sure hope he's just a super sub for us. He'd be OK in that role. If he is our starting right fielder or third baseman ... f***. You are not going to like his defense. You just aren't going to. Teahen is a utility player; hope we use him that way. f***.

**Official Phillies vs. Yankees Thread**
It's weird when the moneybag Yankees win it all. It's almost like it wasn't real baseball. Hope they don't win it again for a while.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
Do we want Matsui?

**Official Phillies vs. Yankees Thread**
I still think that was a boring series. The only feel good moment for me is Rivera. He's so durable, consistent. It's fun to watch him pitch. Just like starters can learn from watching Buehrle work, relievers could learn a lot watching Rivera. He's a god. I hope the Phillies are done for a while; no need to see them in the WS again unless we are playing and beating them.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
I don't know why that would matter. There always will be some assholes on teams. What is a good team guy? Just asking. I really don't care if Pods comes back or not. Odds are he may not pick up where he left off. I just think Damon is a disaster defensively and would rather have Pods than Damon. If we acquire Damon, so be it. He is a grinder and the Sox fans will probably love adding a grinder to go with Getz.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
Is Damon a free agent? Have we ever signed a Boras guy? Johnny is old. I wouldn't be mad if we acquired him, but I don't see the point in this discussion. One thing is for sure. Damon has one of the worst arms in baseball history for an everyday player.
-
Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
That Pods is cheaper and about the same age and I don't want Damon.

**Official Phillies vs. Yankees Thread**
Has a pitcher ever gone on two days rest in the WS after pitching as much as Lee has in previous games? That might be a little crazy of an idea. His arm might fall off. I mean with that reasoning, just pitch Lee in Game Six and Seven. At some point you have to trust some other pitchers.
-
Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
This probably would have been a better way to word it, but yes I'd rather have Pods. Damon can't throw the baseball. Yeah he's a grinder who has had some great at bats in the WS. We need to get more creative. No thanks to Johnny.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
Damon can't field just like Pods. Is he an upgrade? No.

**Official Phillies vs. Yankees Thread**
Phillies show some spunk to cut it to 3-2. I can't get worked up about this series, though. The Phillies having won it last year takes a lot of drama out of it. They show their fans scared in the stands at times, but how can you feel for them. They f***ing won it last year. There's no feeling sorry or drama for Philly considering they are merely trying to win another one.

Mark Gonzales Interview By WSI
That was very good stuff, reading the opinions of a guy who covers the team on a daily basis. It dealt with a lot of topics, pretty much all the topics fans like to debate concerning this team: Walker, lack of fundamentals, lack of veteran leadership, how a lot of money is tied to 10 players, what to expect next year. Interesting that Gonzalez has no idea what the team will be like next year. He says the only thing for sure is the team appears to have a very good starting rotation. Gonzales comes across as a good guy full of good information.

The choker tag was stupid. Baseball is a funny game. He didn't choke in past postseasons, he just sucked. He's a stud. Now if you want to blast him over the steroids thing, fine. But he's not a choker. --On another note, nice pregame radio interview with Swisher. Hard to hate the guy after hearing his personality. He gave a great interview.

Could Dye return in '10?
Dye will be DH for Texas next season and probably hit 28-35 home runs; not bad. As far as this statement: You're right though. Our current team as it stands is not good enough to compete with those juggernaut 2010 Twins and Tigers teams. I hear the Tigers are going to bring back Adam Everett and the great Orlando Cabrera might even return to Minnesota for - get this - a full season. The Indians are going to be a force too when Matt Laporta makes up for the Lee, Sabathia, and VMart deals all by himself, and 2010 should be the dreaded Year of the Hochevar. I know, my knees are shaking too. Kenny better hurry up and overpay for a veteran in decline to DH and a couple spotty relievers or else we're doomed." I'm talking about getting over .500 and doing something significant, not just squeaking into the playoffs. Assuming Dye is gone, we have to replace that bat and we need bullpen upgrades or we are not going to top .500. And not topping .500 is a recipe for being about 7 out in September which we were this year. Right now we have an excellent starting rotation, sub-par lineup (no Thome, Dye), sub par bullpen and average defense.

Greg Walker Admits Any Other Team Would Have Fired Him
Mattingly is a good example, thanks. Rose probably needed the money with all his gambling. I don't know everything about McGwire's personality, just the mope who "testified." Maybe he's the greatest guy in the world and a hard worker. He'll probably delegate the grunt parts of the job to somebody else anyway. McGwire prolly carries a lot of clout still in that clubhouse. If I had to bet, he'll be perceived worse than McRae at least publicly. Was LaRussa looking for a scapegoat for his team's flameout? At least the Sox don't take the easy cliche way out and fire Walker as scapegoat for the bad season. Those of you who go to Soxfest who get worked up about hitting coaches should grill KW about the job and get some candid answers about the Sox organization's philosophy on Walker. Aren't KW and Oz pretty candid at that session?
