I guess not. I don't live there and see him on TV or hear him on radio. I just read it. He gives us stories and lots of them and stuff to talk about. I don't understand the problem, but that's just me. I like the guy at the Trib as well. From afar it does seem the Cowley fellow churns out a bit more all year round. Of course the Trib writer is probably taking a well deserved vacation after a long season. Those guys get vacation time built up, too, I bet. It just seems so personal; that people hate this Cowley for some reason. And a few of you have pointed out the reasons of which I thank you. No love for Kwanzaa?! Go to hell. Oops never heard of that one. Sorry.

Pretentious asshole? You guys must see him on TV or something. I just read his stuff and think it's good ... and free.
-
Seriously fathom and squert what's the problem with Joe? He gives us stuff to read and discuss all year round. I gots no problem with him. Plus it's free information. Not like we gots to pay for it. Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah (sp) to all! I love the holidays.

Do the Joe bashers hate Joe for that youtube he did with AJ or something? Does he get all the hot chicks at the clubs you frequent? Mr. Cowley. If you read this board, I feel you are a great White Sox reporter. Good job as it is obvious you work your ass off covering the White Sox in and out of season. This Bud is for you.

It's interesting how many guys we have that have something to prove next year. Putz is coming off surgery on his throwing arm. Yikes. But the Sox have medical experts and must know what they are doing. As fans we can only hope for the best but wouldn't we be expecting a lot to see him pitch before June after surgery?? He's another very tall pitcher. Has he had control problems? GO SOX!

I wonder if he'll continue to crowd the plate as much as he does. He seems to get hit a ton and smashes foul balls off his insteps all the time. He definitely got his stroke back at the end of last season. I wouldn't complain if he was DH if we had 3 very good to great outfielders, but we don't have that right now.

Peavy is legally blind, while opposing hitters normally can't see his nasty pitches. Go Peavy!

Tigers, Cubs, Royals, Giants Join Sox As Teams Interested in Pods
greg775 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He'll probably go to the Royals. Then we'll get Coco Crisp so the Sox and Royals will continue to share each others' players with less than stellar results. It's amazing how the Tigers now are deciding to go cheap. Our division will be the cheapskate division. I would think our only competition in the future on paper should come from Minnie since we probably will at least be spending the most of all teams in our division and you would think our great starting rotation should keep us competitive for years to come. Hopefully that new ballpark will end the Minnie mystique (in our division; not in playoffs of course where they suck). -
I'm just telling you the opinion of people in KC. They are happy to bid him bye bye. If we acquire him, so be it. I won't be against him from day one. I just think he's old news.
-
Buehrle is the best. My favorite Sox player in the modern era. He and DeWayne Wise rock for their perfect game.
-
I think some of you are overvaluing Coco's defense. Rios I admit looked mighty fluid in center fielder and is a good glove. Coco did nothing in KC to excite people about his defense and his arm is not good and will assuredly be worse with the shoulder problems.
-
We need real players like Granderson instead of guys like Crisp who are broken down or Jones, Omar who are old news or simply old. Our starting rotation is simply awesome, congrats to KW. The rest of the team ... will keep us at or a little above or below .500. Of course there's always the chance Rios, Lexi, Teahen, CQ, have career years. If they do, then I guess we have a chance to do something special. I'm assuming Kenny will tweak the pen a bit and it will be better than average before he's done.
-
I fully expect him to start for us.
-
Why can't we ever sign guys we can get excited about? Polanco would be one of those guys. Peavy is the lone exception of somebody we've acquired of late who we can get excited about.
-
Bobby is still a pretty good closer. Ranger ... are you suprised at all the anti Jenks sentiment? Is he considered a reliable closer in the locker room? I still think he's one of the most reliable closers and tied with Thornton as our best reliever. I think the rest of our relievers suck balls, except I guess for long long relief man Carrasco.
-
I'm surprised there's some luke warm sentiment on Thornton in this thread. I got crucified last season for suggesting he would not be a great choice at closer. I was trying to be kinder about him and now see others indicating he's not the answer at closer. I thought he showed enough to be given a shot in the role if we need to trade Bobby.
-
I am neutral on the Omar signing cause most people say he'll just be a sub. Omar is old, though, as well.
-
I'll be surprised if we don't deal Bobby. Thornton took over the closer's role and had some opportunities as I recall after Bobby was shut down. He looked like he deserves a shot at closer. The question is can we replace him in the 8th? Our other relievers pretty much suck.
-
You do realize how old he is, don't you? Why would you want this guy on our team at his age? I just can't understand it. I mean I want Dick Allen back on the team. But the Dick Allen of 30 years ago.
-
Longshot I get the feeling you are trolling on this. You can't be serious. Yes in school I cheated once in a while I guess. I'm not proud of that but I copied off people once in a while, etc. I can't think of ever cheating in sports, maybe tried to hold a guy in basketball, but the ref had the opportunity to call it a foul. Cheating is wrong. You can win and not cheat.
-
I can see your point. I just thought we were dead men walking all last season. Pods being a buffoon on the basepaths, inability to have even one significant winning streak. I guess it is all talent on the field. I just sensed again that our guys were a bunch of zombies much of the season. I guess you are right. You perform or you don't. I guess it was just a blah season because of talent.
-
Are you guys worried about our team speed heading into next year? Ranger? Others? Yes or no.
-
I commend Tex. Upstanding posts. Are you pro Bonds people thinking about what would show up in ST? The guy is OLD. Remember Michael with the Wizards? He sucked and it was an ugly sight to see. As I recall he was so bad the novelty even wore off and the games weren't on TV much. Bonds is old. He's done with baseball. Thome would be a much better option and he's getting up there.
-
I ran CC as well Tex. That's where I got the story of the guy hiding in the brush. One of my teammates did that. But he didn't win. He comfortably finished in about fifth place or so. He was better than most of us so we didn't turn him in or get mad. It was kind of funny. He'd also do that during workouts. Hide in the brush and after we ran a couple miles and returned to the brush area, he'd pop back in and run with us. I figure if I competed in a sport, I had a right to blast it. Sorry for the thread hijack. As far as solution to rightfield/DH. We gotta resign Jimmy for DH. Pods/Rios/Quentin with Jones the super sub might not be horrifically bad.

I hope you are young and dumb and not too old to change your opinion on this. Do you cheat on all your school assignments or did you at one time? Congratulations on your diploma. If you have a kid who runs cross country (heaven help the kid, that sport sucks) would you condone him hiding in the brush and waiting for the group to return and have him sprint out front and win the race at the end if nobody could see? In football do you condone him at the bottom of the pile smashing the other team's star player in the nuts or poke his eyes to get an advantage as long as he's not seen? To save some money do you cheat and switch the tags on items? Do you cheat on the wife after your honeymoon. May be a lot of fun, but it's not right. Cheating is wrong. There is something wrong with cheating even if it translates to results. Accomplishing something by cheating really stains the accomplishment. If you don't see that, I don't know what to think. That said, like somebody pointed out, we don't need Minoso back and we don't need Bonds. Both are too old.
