They don't give up money or have money deferred til later to acquire Johnny Damons. Get real. Damon has enough money and they know that; and then there's always somebody else to acquire at a later date and they know that guy needs money too. As far as Rios, every time I read something about how he doesn't care and how he hit 12 balls hard all year with the Sox scares me more. If he doesn't give a s***, we'll see it soon enough this year. He's starting 0-for-0, fresh. No excuses. He puts up or shuts up. We shall find out soon enough.

Thome. Damon can't hurt us any more than Grandy did or tried to do. Thome can hit some 3 run bombs that can KILL us. I wish we'd sign some ex Twin that would want to kill the Twins like Jimmy is going to want to kill the Sox.

That's possible. I know if we get off to a gosh-awful start for some reason, there will be finger pointing and it'll likely be at Oz. He's been here a long time and is right in front of the cameras every day. It's Oz's hide, not KW's, though Jerry probably would never agree to let Oz go no matter what happens. Remember, Jerry got the WS title thanks in large part to Oz, and owner's think differently than fans. I would suspect Oz has a lifetime contract as long as Jerry is in charge.

It's not a one-man sport. Thome's home run vs. the Twins was special.

I'm glad sox fans are skeptical about Jones and some of our additions. Not many have drunk the hot stove league koolaid. These guys gotta produce.

I'll play in a regular yahoo type head to head league, a non keeper league. I would rather be in a league with casual fantasy type fans, not the ultra competitive phenoms. Just a normal soxtalk league.

Rowand. We haven't exactly replaced him with anything better than Aaron himself. Rios has a chance to shut up we Rowand lovers forever. It's now or never for 29-year-old Rios. He's with a contending team in a city that demands performance. If Rios has what it takes, he'll show it this year.

Is Jermaine done? I would think teams are pretty set in their minds for the season by now.

Johnny is a grinder and a gamer, but he like Pierre can't throw the baseball. I still wouldn't mind acquiring him, but if we do I hope we dump Pierre.

I kind of agree with this. I'm thinking because of his track record, however, I'll have a lot more patience with him during slumps than, say, an Erstad. Johnny is a stud, but so at one point was Dye, Thome, Pods, etc.

I don't think we're getting Damon and frankly I don't really want him. If our team can't hit, maybe they'll make some other move during the season.

It's a huge shot to the ego of some of these guys who aren't offered megabucks after a lousy couple of months. Add that to the fact JD isn't much of a fielder anymore and you get this ... nobody wants him for more than a discount rate. Will he sign for a million or 2 a year? Sounds like a team would be getting an unhappy camper at that discount rate. He's an interesting case. Teams aren't going to pay JD more than Pods-type money it appears.

I think they'll have the usual homefield advantage, but it won't be anything like the dome. I would suspect we'll win our share of games in the outdoor park.

Our offseason has been blah. We're hoping to strike gold with Omar, Putz, Teahen, Jones, Pierre. I would say none of us can say with any certainty how those guys will perform. We can hope that they perform well. That's what the winter is for. And it still is winter evidenced by me missing a flight today because I sat my ass on I-70 for 2.5 hours as a 30 car pileup got cleared up. It was bad. I hope everybody is OK.

I'm a little concerned, only because I don't sense a majority of the question marks coming through. I remember our offensive problems during stretches last season and I think we have on paper a worse club offensively than a year ago. Who knows? I do hope we get off to a good start, not the five under .500 thing the whole first half. It would help if Rios emerged into a hitting star, ditto Lexi. I think we know what we're going to get from Paulie and AJ. We need many other guys to produce. I think our ceiling is 10 over .500. And I can't see us getting Damon cause of the Boras thing.

That bridge could be rebuilt quickly, by him saying, "World Series MVP." Like Frank, he'll always be a Sox.

That rotation sounds good to me. Hope Freddy has a good start to the season.

I forgot about Thome to the Twins. That is going to be so strange seeing him up there hacking for Minnie.
