The bottom line is with that salary, Rios better hit and hit well next year or he'll be the whipping boy who is booed out of town. He looked pathetic at the plate last year, simply horrendous in his stint with the Sox. He was here in plenty of time to provide a spark that might help us get into the playoffs but he was almost an automatic out. That was last year. It seems to me most fans are giving him a clean slate. But now it's up to him. He makes a ton of money and better figure it out. We could have kept BA if all we wanted was defense out there. He hit a little better the last week or so so people are hoping he'll be better.

That is true. If we got Peavy and Rios in the offseason there would be a huge buzz. Rios was a disaster last season but Peavy was amazing in his few starts.
-
Agreed. We need to sign some guys who will sell tickets and generate some buzz. I guess Jerry was right; our big free agents were Peavy and Rios. We're just landing role guys to surround those big acquisitions.
-
I would tend to agree. Once they get on the field and we see what we actually got, the venom comes out. Hope this speed thing works.
-
I agree completely. More power to those who think Wise was one of our top 10 worst players of the decade, but he's actually one of my favorite players of the decade because of that amazing catch. Call me a dumbf***, but I really feel that way.

I'm assuming Rios will be better Pierre Beckham Quentin Konerko Rios AJ Lexi Teahen Jones could be a lot of strikeouts in my eight and nine hole if Teahen doesn't get his act together. he's a non RBI guy who whiffs a lot; he has some talent; he needs to revamp his game a bit
-
We need one more power bat. If we don't get one, hopefully A. Jones is gonna work out all winter with something to prove.
-
For all your old timers out there, Brian Downing was a pretty good leadoff hitter and he didn't fit the mold.
-
Alan Embree Josh Paul Todd Ritchie Roberto Alomar Andy Sisco Jimmy Gobble I forgot about these guys til I read your awesome list. They all did indeed stink.
-
Ben Davis is a reminder of how many guys flop in baseball. Wasn't he another first rounder? Wow he stunk. Like BA, he looked like a can't miss player; yet stunk.
-
I was hoping it was because like Sally Field, people like me. They realize I would sob upon reading Weezy's name over and over. My list: I despised Clayton. I really didn't like Erstad. All those backup catchers who have sucked. Betemit really was bad. Boone Logan was oh, so bad. Rios gets a clean slate with me. I really am hoping he hits next year. He is fun to watch defensively gliding after the ball. If he goes oh for April, however, I may have a stroke.
-
I'll make a list eventually. Please everybody don't ruin my Christmas and say DeWeezy. He was what he was. Last guy on a roster. I would probably put Lilly at top of the list so far. He doesn't seem to be able to hit a baseball. There probalby have been 10 worst than Lilly though.

Who cares if Pods was out of baseball last May? The rest of the way he played every day and all he did was get hits. Once these guys take the field in April, there's a good chance you'll be wishing we had Pods over Pierre, who is no Rickey Henderson. Hopefully slap hitter Pierre will have a good year. Ozzie got his speed guy. Let's see if it improves our offense. Obviously Pods' bad baserunning has made him evil. That was maddening the times he f***ed up, but I doubt we'll be all happy about Juan all season long. -
I don't know about that. The guys we've added do not make me think our lineup is any better than last year. The acquisition of Peavy and hopefully Putz makes me believe our pitching is way better. There are just as many question marks with our new position players as there would be Dye and Thome and Pods. Wasn't this Link guy supposed to be decent?

I agree with you, but some of us have a feeling Jones will be more than a Weezy type backup. -
I can't argue with you. It is pretty dumb. I don't want DeJesus. Then we truly are becoming the Royals. Only way I want DeJesus is if we dump Teahen. A heavy dose of Royals might turn us into the Royals.

I still don't understand why we just don't play Danks. Some thought we were rushing Beckham and he did great. Baseball should start to be like other sports and not be afraid to play some of these guys right away. I'd rather rush Danks than play Pierre a lot wouldn't you all?
-
We won't get Dunn. I've always wanted him and we never get guys I want badly. I wanted Granderson and Halladay and Cliff Lee (Peavy's good, though) and Bartlett and McLouth in the past. I wonder if KW wants Thome back to give Thome a shot at another postseason (one in which he can actually play) with all that good starting pitching we've got. Oops I just read the article that said Thome ain't coming back in the Sun Times. Oz wants the flexibility at DH. I sure hope Jones, Kotsay, Pierre, AJ, Omar and our other old guys have some life left in their bats.

Two comments: 1.) I hope Danks has a great spring and makes it impossible for the Sox to keep him in the minors. We really don't need this Pierre fella starting. 2.) It's obvious Oz is going to have a lot of fun this year playing everybody. Even more than usual I look for different lineups almost everyday. If we don't hit/score runs/win, we're gonna have a lot to b**** about regarding Oz. Though I tend to not criticize Oz. I prefer to criticize the guy who provides Oz the players. I'm not at all crazy about the light hitting Pierre. It makes me feel better about seeing Teahen out there compared to Pierre.

It would be nice if our rotation was as good as people think and those guys could go 7 every game. Then I'd like our bullpen or at least think it's acceptable. You go five plus innings and it's too many arms being trotted out there. Thornton and Bobby are good; pray for rain with the rest of 'em. Hopefully JJ wil be OK and Pena will be serviceable. I think we know what Linebrink is and it's not good. I'm glad Dotel is gone. Let Hudson or somebody try it as well in his place.
-
The question is, is this guy better than Pods and if, so, by how much? On paper, I'd say no and he's as big a risk playing effectively on an everyday basis as Pods would have been. All Pods did last year was get base hits. Isn't this another guy KW has wanted a long time? Should be interesting.
-
He's got a good arm but it's like pitching to Fisk when Fisk was 48 years old or whatever he was his final season and couldn't catch the ball anymore.

Jeremy Reed, Lance Broadway and Brian Anderson Non-Tendered
greg775 replied to bighurt4life's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder if KC will sign Anderson on the cheap. They are kind of like the Sox in taking chances on people. He could play every day there and finally see if he's worth a crap or not. Should we sign both Reed and Broadway and put em back in our minor league system? -
Olivo like you said is a HORRIBLE defensive catcher. He can't catch the freaking ball. It's home run or NOTHING at the plate. No way please.
-
Oops. If our guys are offended by this, then I may have to change my opinion of Joe. I did not realize this was goin on. I back the good people here over him! Justin and Mario are awesome. Were our guys offended by this or just happy to get the mention in his twitter. It's not like it was in the actual newspaper. My bad if Justin et all were offended by Joe's twitters. I support the guys on here more than Joe!!!
