8/25 Gm. 1 - SOX vs./@ BAL, 5:05 CT, CSN

Cut bait on Uribe. Second basemen are a dime a dozen. When will Danny be ready. When he's healthy, insert him in lineup. -
Is Fields that good a defender? Paulie isn't bad and he's proven.
-
I don't think discussing red flags is so negative a thing. I do agree with him that the Sox performance at home is a potential problem and worthy of red flag status even this early. I agree there's reason for great optimism and I think we're better this year, but I am a bit concerned about the Sox play at home.

I hope it's a minor skid. Major is like a Ryan Howard 2-for-35. That would not be good.

Great quote from Paulie in today's AP story on the game. You need to have a 4-3 homestand. 3-4 is not good. One game does not make a season but there is no reason to split with the Orioles. -
What great at bats by Anderson. He looks like a ballplayer or at least did tonight. If Swish doesn't start hitting better ...?
-
I finally got to see a couple games and I also love Quentin's promise. He looks like he has a clue at the plate. Kind of reminds me of Maggs or somebody like that.
-
I detest MacDougal. Is Wasserman the guy with the funny delivery? I forget his delivery. Is he a hack or is there hope he can get the job done?
-
Yet sitting out a year announcing made him a genius. It'd be easy to be Ozzie if he had some bullpen arms that would be reliable. I thought Linebrink's effort was disappointing last night as well as Thornton, though Linebrink caught a bad break on the inside strike called a ball. Boone was great that one inning to get the ship righted again.

I agree with you, but it is pretty apparent Jim is trying to hit a home run every time to the plate. I do get amazed and amused at the situation you present. Guy on second they are in that shift and he grounds out to right field. Makes no sense, yet it does cause he is paid to hit hrs like Rongey said. It just really looks kind of stupid when he grounds out to right field with a man on second in a close game late in the game, when a dribbler to the nonexistent third baseman into left field would mean a run. Baseball's a funny game.

Those shifts really are frustrating. I hate when Thome grounds out to rightfield. I know it's a stupid idea, but if Thome in the long offseason learned how to plop a bunt or even a half swing in the vicinity of third base, he'd hit 1.000 on the season. Everybody was laughing when Thome had that checked swing hit to third the other day. I didn't laugh. I was happy he was on first base. I'd think he'd be somewhat embarrassed the times he grounds out to right field. I like Thome a lot, but why not smash the ball where it is pitched like the basis of this thread suggests? He's powerful enough to hit a lot of homers like that one to leftcenter yesterday.

4/25 Gamethread: Sox (12-9) vs Orioles (13-9), 7:11 CSN+

That's what I was thinking when it got washed. Hopefully Danks can keep up what he's been doing and Masset can step up. You've got to beat teams like the O's at home. Yes, I realize the O's with two wins tonight would have an amazing 15-9 record. -
After moaning about the first two games of the series resembling last year, I have to say I really enjoyed watching the last 5 innings of this game. I thought Linebrink (sp) got screwed on that inside fastball that should have been strike three, though I wasn't crazy about the way he pitched or the way Thornton pitched. Wow on the winning rally. Wow on Thome's blast. Nice job by Floyd considering the delay. The two hits to plate the winning run were both awesome. Love Joe's knack of getting the big hit. Love Bobby. Concerned about Dye's injury. Not crazy about the bullpen. Great win. NOT anything like last year. Great job by the Sox pulling it out.
-
Yeah it doesn't take much to get back in it. They have been beating some bad teams. I don't like the fact we're really not playing that well at home.

The hitting was painful to watch tonight.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 4/23, 7:11, ESPN

Of course you are referring to last year. I haven't said much this year about the team to agree with or disagree with either way. The board appears kind of dead. I'm definitely in a wait and see mode before I say something stupid I may regret. I just hope all the talk about added intensity on the team wasn't just the Sox getting out of the gate fast. The last two games have sucked against top competition. -

These 2 losses to the Yankees reminded me of last year. Hopefully we're not about to drop back into mediocruddy after a great start. You've got to admit these 2 games were not good. -
Our middle relief needs to emerge. Are you guys hopeful it will? Or will it be disaster leading up to Bobby again this year.
-
Then why do we keep picking them up? I thought Dotel might break the hex.

Good point. I just thought with the bases loaded in the seventh there was the chance for some big time magic and dramatics. But no big hit. Add to that some relief woes and you get what I consider the first real "painful" loss of a good start. -
Former KC Royals pitchers don't do too well on the South Side for some reason.

That was a frustrating loss I'd say, wouldn't you. -
I'd rather keep Crede but if the Sox make the World Series again, it's all win/win. Unless Fields' confidence has been shattered by not being in the big leagues when he should be in the big leagues, he will be a nice addition next year. Crede will be in the lousy position of having to continue producing with a new team for huge bucks with fans demanding he be worth the money and years, when I would assume his back would be an issue at some point. If his back remains healthy forever, kudos to Joe with all the hard hacks those guys take in games and BP and all the bending for grounders.

Where do you all think Big Hurt will end up? I'd think the Royals would acquire him and DH him and put Butler at first base. Think of him facing us 18 times this season? Yikes. Do you think the reason the Jays soured on him is he's a big blob now who can't run at all?

I so want to eat crow and have Danks and Floyd keep excelling like this. If this continues ... KW again shoves it up the butt of many critics. So far, great job. Today's effort ... wow.
