2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Where are they going to go? It's very unusual to make a trade at this time of the year.

Toby Hall
Olivo shoulda been a career backup catcher with the Sox. The Sox backup catching slot has been and is a disaster.
-
Gavin Floyd
The question is ... what's our middle relief looking like? With this lousy 3-4-5, our only hope is going to be reliable, durable middle relief to go with much improved hitting. If we hit like last year and have lousy relief, we might have one of the worst teams in Sox history. If we get great (not good) middle relief and hit, we'll be a contender for wild card.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
How do we know he's not good? He might actually have improved with hard work. If he wins the job he wins the job. I despised him before when he was an automatic out. If he has learned how to hit, play him.

Who is the least talked about Sox player?
I voted for Dye. The quiet professional. Second is Thornton. I don't want to think about him, much less talk about him.

Mariotti on Stone/Sox
Does Couch really do that? I don't check the site every day but it seems bad business to have 2 guys writing the same columns. Not saying you are wrong, just wondered if you had any examples to give me on Couch doing this. I really have enjoyed some of Greg's takes on the Bulls and Hawks.

SOX CUT 12
Poor Haeger. He officially must not be any good.

Vazquez to pitch opener
Is Jon Garland's absence starting to scare any of you? Vazquez the No. 1 starter? Danks and Floyd being trotted out there time and again? Yikes. I'm not predicting doom, just hoping for the best wondering why Garland isn't still around.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
I'm all for him winning a starting spot if he earns it. I hope fans don't boo him and jump all over KW if he earns the job and has a tough first road trip. I have a feeling a lot of our guys are gonna be slumping with our early schedule. Go BA!

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
This has nothing to do with AJP perhaps getting mad at Steve Stone this season. But I was wondering ... if the Sox do stink again, do you think this is the year AJP acts up or will he continue to be a model player with the Sox? Remember how in the past he supposedly had trouble with his Giants teammates, etc? I like AJP but I wonder if we suck he'll be wanting to get out of town and act up so KW trades him.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
What are the papers and talk show hosts sayin' about BA's torrid spring? I think it'd be a great story if he won the job. Of course, if he hits .400 with power in spring training, what are the odds he hits the ball right at people the first two weeks of the regular season, hits about .200 and everybody is on his butt? I'm intrigued by BA's progress? That would be an amazing story if he becomes a star.

Mariotti on Stone/Sox
I know Couch and he is a great guy. I'm surprised you don't like his style of writing. I think he writes good stuff. We might agree to disagree here but if you read Couch, I think you will get reasonable points of view. You might disagree with what he's saying but I personally think he backs up his points quite well. As far as Stone joining the Sox, I bet you he will remain very critical. He's not going to change. Why would he? All they can do is fire him and he has a contract so he gets the money. He's been around too long doing it his way to change. If Oz and AJP go after him, they are idiots because Stone was a damn good pitcher and is a smart baseball mind. They might listen to him and learn something if things are going south. I love Oz's style but he's not perfect, nor is AJP.

League #5 Thread
Hi folks, I'm in. Will our draft allow the computer to pick for us? I probably won't be able to do the draft, but usually Yahoo makes picks for you as well.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
I don't know if it's a charade. I am not the biggest BA fan because of the fact he was an automatic out the year he got a chance, but if he earns the job I'm really going to be pulling for him. I say if he wins the job, more power to BA. I wish I followed spring training closer, but I don't get ultra interested til the regular season. What's today's update. Is BA looking good still?

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
So folks, yes or no, is Brian worthy of a spot in the Sox outfield if he keeps hitting all spring? Do you think he's getting a serious look?

That's bad luck for Hall. Scary he's not healthy yet. We could be hosed at backup catcher again.
-
So Brian Anderson's hitting...
I hope the Sox brass isn't against the idea of Anderson winning a job. It's too early in spring training to get too excited, but if this guy has learned how to hit and get on base and earns the job, he should get it this spring. Remember how high everybody was on Anderson just 2 years ago? If he is the real deal, I hope he's not denied the job just because of how he flopped before. Tony ... how did he look when you were there? Did he take aggressive hacks?

Cubs may play at The Cell?
I haven't lived in Chicago since back in the day. It seems people were back then afraid to take the El to the game lest they get mugged. Is that now a crock? is the El safe and sound? I would assume it is. It used to be if you went East of the park people were all scared they'd get mugged.

So Brian Anderson's hitting...
This thread was started a while ago. Try as I might, I never pay much attention to spring training. How's Brian been doing lately? Is he playing every day? What's the update?

Cubs may play at The Cell?
I didn't know a lot of Sox fans took the El to the games. I thought most people drove. My bad.

Has the Internet taken some fun out of baseball?
Good point Haroldbaines. That was a fun part of winning it all. People were stoked. It was great.
-
Cubs may play at The Cell?
I wonder if Cub fans would flock to the Cell for a season. That will be so interesting to see if they'd come to the Cell to see the team. Cub fans are so used to taking the train to the games and all the Wrigleyville crap. I just wonder if they would sell out the Cell? Season ticket holders probably would buy the tickets if it meant them getting taken off the list the following year. But would they go to the games? I wonder. Great line about a Bridgeport homeowner beating the s*** out of somebody pissing on their lawn. That would be fun to see.

CREDE CREDE CREDE
I just think he's a great fielder and was key in the Sox winning it all. Since then he's been hurt. I still think he is a great third baseman.

Has the Internet taken some fun out of baseball?
Not just out of baseball, but all sports. But I like reading the message boards even if they are so negative much of the time. What took some of the fun out of baseball was the greed of the owners (George) overpaying so much, thus ticket prices went out of whack. It's not been as fun since the greed of the owners took over. I also don't like the fact George wanted to play the Red Sox over and over so they changed the schedule to where you play the teams in your own division WAY too many times. What a joke.
