  1. I know Couch and he is a great guy. I'm surprised you don't like his style of writing. I think he writes good stuff. We might agree to disagree here but if you read Couch, I think you will get reasonable points of view. You might disagree with what he's saying but I personally think he backs up his points quite well. As far as Stone joining the Sox, I bet you he will remain very critical. He's not going to change. Why would he? All they can do is fire him and he has a contract so he gets the money. He's been around too long doing it his way to change. If Oz and AJP go after him, they are idiots because Stone was a damn good pitcher and is a smart baseball mind. They might listen to him and learn something if things are going south. I love Oz's style but he's not perfect, nor is AJP.
  2. Hi folks, I'm in. Will our draft allow the computer to pick for us? I probably won't be able to do the draft, but usually Yahoo makes picks for you as well.
  3. I don't know if it's a charade. I am not the biggest BA fan because of the fact he was an automatic out the year he got a chance, but if he earns the job I'm really going to be pulling for him. I say if he wins the job, more power to BA. I wish I followed spring training closer, but I don't get ultra interested til the regular season. What's today's update. Is BA looking good still?
  4. So folks, yes or no, is Brian worthy of a spot in the Sox outfield if he keeps hitting all spring? Do you think he's getting a serious look?
  5. That's bad luck for Hall. Scary he's not healthy yet. We could be hosed at backup catcher again.
  6. I hope the Sox brass isn't against the idea of Anderson winning a job. It's too early in spring training to get too excited, but if this guy has learned how to hit and get on base and earns the job, he should get it this spring. Remember how high everybody was on Anderson just 2 years ago? If he is the real deal, I hope he's not denied the job just because of how he flopped before. Tony ... how did he look when you were there? Did he take aggressive hacks?
  7. I haven't lived in Chicago since back in the day. It seems people were back then afraid to take the El to the game lest they get mugged. Is that now a crock? is the El safe and sound? I would assume it is. It used to be if you went East of the park people were all scared they'd get mugged.
  8. This thread was started a while ago. Try as I might, I never pay much attention to spring training. How's Brian been doing lately? Is he playing every day? What's the update?
  9. I didn't know a lot of Sox fans took the El to the games. I thought most people drove. My bad.
  10. Good point Haroldbaines. That was a fun part of winning it all. People were stoked. It was great.
  11. I wonder if Cub fans would flock to the Cell for a season. That will be so interesting to see if they'd come to the Cell to see the team. Cub fans are so used to taking the train to the games and all the Wrigleyville crap. I just wonder if they would sell out the Cell? Season ticket holders probably would buy the tickets if it meant them getting taken off the list the following year. But would they go to the games? I wonder. Great line about a Bridgeport homeowner beating the s*** out of somebody pissing on their lawn. That would be fun to see.
  12. I just think he's a great fielder and was key in the Sox winning it all. Since then he's been hurt. I still think he is a great third baseman.
  13. Not just out of baseball, but all sports. But I like reading the message boards even if they are so negative much of the time. What took some of the fun out of baseball was the greed of the owners (George) overpaying so much, thus ticket prices went out of whack. It's not been as fun since the greed of the owners took over. I also don't like the fact George wanted to play the Red Sox over and over so they changed the schedule to where you play the teams in your own division WAY too many times. What a joke.
  14. I am a fanboy of Crede and I could see him being moved. Somebody's going to get a great third baseman and what are we going to get in return at this point? I know ... he's going to leave anyway. That still doesn't mean if we had a great GM we couldn't get some good players for Crede if he proves he's healthy this spring. We should not, but will, give him away I predict. I fully expect us to get 2 Class A players for him and that would be a shame. Crede is a great third baseman. Sorry that's what I believe. Hope Kenny Proves me wrong.
  15. Thanks for the interview. You did a nice job.
  16. I must confess I have no tapes to check to see if Paulie stretches for the ball. I can't believe he doesn't stretch for the ball. Maybe some other posters have a take on this. In the offseason I was thinking I wouldn't be mad if Paulie was dealt in a blockbuster that could help the team. But I'm happy he's still here. I think he's damn good.
  17. To the original post, I think I have seen Paulie stretch for the ball. Give me a break on that one. He has hit clutch home runs. He's a slugger, a plodder. He is what he is (oops, bad cliche). He's a good player. I love Crede. But I think if Fields starts the year in the minors that is a BIG franchise mistake. The guy is ready to play in the majors. If I was Fields I'd consider quitting and being a minister. He belongs in a major league uniform.
  18. Colon may not have been the answer, but does anybody really think Danks and Floyd are going to do much this year? Garland has so much more experience than those 2 and he struggled at times for the Sox. I'd hate to be Kenny risking his future on Danks and Floyd as well as big question mark Contreras. Who would have thought our rotation would be so much of a question mark just a few years after our starting pitching led the Sox to the WS crown?
  19. I went with the Royals but I do think MacD could be the closer cause it would anger me the most of any of those options. That would mean Bobby getting hurt though which would suck.
  20. I agree with Seal. I'm most excited about Swisher. Least excited about bringing back Uribe, of course, unless he makes a commitment to spray the ball to all fields which I guess will not happen.
  21. Get rid of Mike MacDougal. He cannot throw the ball over the plate. Good job Mike. Bean Paulie next. Then Thome.
  22. Thanks, knight. I did not know that. I have a lot of respect for Sweeney. I hope he has a big year. He needed a change of venue as well as a new back.
  23. It'd be nice to see Hall have a big comeback year. AJP definitely needs some rest once in a while. And if Hall is as bad as last year, we can't afford to rest AJ. p.s. Here's hoping there's some life in the ball this year. We still are full of power hitters, like Thome, Paullie, AJP, Dye, Josh. It'd be nice to see the ball carrying deep. Also, by no means do I want them on the Sox, but I'm surprised nobody is taking a chance on Sosa or Mike Sweeney. Nobody will sign them on the cheap.
  24. Was just reading an article here about Miguel Olivo today. Wouldn't you rather have him as AJ's backup than Hall? Just askin.
  25. I hope both are long gone. Wasserman is not good and does anybody really want to see MacDougal's wildness kill us in crucial situations? I'd prefer MacD over Wasserman if one makes it over the other. I hope our new guys are the answer over last year's disasters.
