Devil's advocate would say Garland might be a better option in the seventh than our horrid relievers (of late anyway). And the Sox bench is not exactly full of good hitters. I'm not an Erstad fan but I am not so sure anything would have mattered. Face it ... unless the Sox come out and bash 2 or more homers in a game, they are cooked offensively. It's a home run hitting team nothing else.
-
Do you really think Toby Hall would have come through with a hit?
-
It's easy to blame Ozzie. He didn't have the bat in his hands feebly with bags loaded and only one out. It's not like the other players you mention are great hitters either.
-
We can't afford to lose 3 of the 4 next bad matchups. It's time to start emerging as a real contender.
-
I hate getting shut down at home.
-
We need Thome to hit a 5-run home run soon.
-
The Sox bullpen is horrible.
-
The bullpen would have been just as bad. 107 pitches isn't that many.
-
The new whipping boy has to be Sisco. Erstad is doing well and I hope he keeps it up. I just never was sold on the guy.
-
He may be a columnist, but columnists still can make mistakes. No way do any Sox fans I know including me get more "jollies" from beating the Cubs than winning the World Series. That is pure bulls***. He should be reprimanded for writing that. His paper is one that covered the s*** out of the World Series. The paper knows damn well he is WRONG on this one. Call him on this one. He is wrong on this one. Also he wrote: Lou Piniella is the ''in'' manager, showing no patience for mediocrity and pondering a possible eventual move of closer Ryan Dempster to the rotation. As for Guillen, he is becoming passe, a wounded animal Save this. He will jump on Lou before long. It's inevitable.

I can't imagine his back ever getting better considering the number of swings he takes at pitches in BP and in games as well as the bending over for grounders each and every day. Like the Royals' mike Sweeney, he'll probably be injured off an on every year.
-
I could live with everybody else's mistakes except Sisco. He is no good. Get rid of him now. I wish we had some veteran guy to eat innings.
-
Probably too early to b**** too much, but the team hasn't exactly lit anything on fire since all star break of last season.
-
I know a guy who had "simple" back surgery. He now uses a cane, can barely walk and is 27 years old with 2 little kids. Sucks. The back is nothing to mess with knife wise. Joe's career may be over cause if I was him I would not have back surgery.

Good call, El Rockin! As somebody who figured Masset would get pounded today, I eat my words. Great effort, Masset! If he can pitch like that in relief, man would he be a nice set up man! I'd give him the set up man job now til he blows a couple games.
-
Your declaration was not needed nor accurate. It's mid May and the offense has been horrible. The relief pitching has been terrible except for Bobby. Have you been cheering wildly when MacD and Sisco are banging baseballs off our catcher's shinguards and walking everybody in sight and the lineup has hit .220? Those of us who figured we'd get swept also have praised the starting pitching. The team has been waddling around .500 a long time now. We're still Sox fans. But we have the right to b**** a bit with mediocre newcomer Erstad leading what has been a pathetic lineup. If you want whining and b****ing go see a Yankee fan. I saw one b****ing about A-Rod making an out during his hot streak in April. GO SOX!
-
I'm glad KW said something like he did. It seems like the Sox have been piddling around the .500 mark a long time now. He needs to get in Sisco's face now. That guy is worthless.
-
Good job Massett. He was great.
-
Thanks for the wind explanation. I would think if wind information is available at Wrigley it'd help the Vegas gamblers, though today there were a lot of runs scored with the wind blowing in.
-
Now that we've sent Sweeney down, would it be too much to ask of Mack to step up? Mack needs to produce.
-
We can't even score runs in bunches in Wrigley? We need Thome back and fast.
-
Why does everybody say the wind will be blowing in for Sunday's game? Is Mother Nature that predictable? What if it's swirling to right or blowing out? How do we KNOW it's gonna blow in???
-
I don't share your optimism on him. I don't know what the Sox can do at this point. There's really nobody to put in the game before Jenks where the Sox have a 75 percent or greater chance of success. As much as I hate watching them pitch, I'd say MacDougal and Thornton are the only possible options. I agree with the person who wrote Blow It Up. Are there any minor league cast of candidates? What about the knuckleballer?
-
That's why I'll never blast KW without the disclaimer "thanks for the work putting together the championship team." I just think judging this roster you have to admit they totally over-rated our bullpen. Erstad is not a difference maker. Unless we hit homers in bunches we are nothing. The starting pitching has been great, but the lineup thanks in part to injuries has been horrid. But our front office certainly looks stupid right now regarding our outfield and bullpen. MacDougal and Sisco are never going to win a World Series. We need to cut our losses with those 2 and trade 'em. And Aardsma? C'mon. Massett tomorrow? It will be a Cub celebration all day long Sunday.
-
I'll forever be grateful for the Series title. But I question our baseball people. Our talent evaluators think tall relievers who are wild are good. They are not. MacD and Sisco are not reliable. Logan is not ready for prime time. Massett ... my gawd tomorrow will be ugly. Thome should have been activated for this series if he's "ready." He doesn't need minor league at bats. I don't care if he wouldn't have played against the lefties. Our lineup sucks without him. He would have looked good in the lineup today. (yes I realize we gave up 11 runs).
