Could be a pretty good outfield in.............
greg775 replied to Jim Spencer's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We can't win a pennant with Erstad, Mack and Dye outfield. Even though it pained me to watch Brian bat most of last year, I was really hoping he'd be the guy to win the job in cf. I hope Oz is just trying to fire up Brian. -
I'm in agreement, and I bet Oz is also. Cause Oz pretty obviously tired of Brian a year ago. Hope he can have the same opener he did last year, then build on it.
-
I'll bite. Good article. I hope he has a great year. He's still a great prospect. Crede didn't tear it up right away and he's great now. It was encouraging to read what Walker had to say.
-
I agree it's too early to predict 'til we see if anybody gets hurt, etc., in coming weeks. As of today, I have a feeling we're going to win the division. I don't know why, though. I hope Detroit slips this year. I am tired of the Tigers and Kenny Rogers.

No we aren't. I think everybody who takes the time to post on here wants them to do well. I like many fear Pods is pretty useless if he can't steal bases and that's a legit concern. If he can still steal, great. I will also eat crow and praise him. I just don't like Erstad, but he's 0-for-0 right now and deserves a chance til proven otherwise. I'm not burying him in my mind. Just concerned about an outfield of Erstad (Pods), Anderson and Dye. I love our infield and catcher spots. Love our DH slot. Like our bench. Like our starters while realizing there are some sudden question marks after last year. Like our middle relief, setup guys, don't love 'em. Love our closer. Love our manager. Bring the season on!

Yuk, Erstad and Scotty P could be automatic outs.
-
I hope Mark has a good season. Sometimes fans aren't real patient when guys who don't sign and are waiting for their free agency get lit up. I would think his leading us to a World Series would make everybody love him regardless. But in Boston or Philly for example, a bad outing or two would result in booing.
-
I don't know if I'd call it a "terrible aura," but it's not a wise idea to tell Sox fans as spring training starts that 3 of the fans' favorites probably won't be White Sox next year. I mean letting them become free agents means the odds are quite slim we'll keep any of them. I'd be shocked if the Cards don't overpay for Mark B; I can see Dye leaving. For some reason I also think Iguchi will remain a Sox however.
-
If Erstad can only hit .250 to .270 as most of you say, then why would he play 3/4 of the time when Pods is out? I say play Anderson in cf and one of the other young guys in left. .250 will do us no good.

I can't believe I got nominated for something. I think I should have been nominated for poster to have a drink with. I am not this idiotic in real life. I just freak out at times in discussing the Sox.

I figured I'd put my Bears post on here since I can't find the Bears board: Nice kickoff return to start the game, but after that blahsville for DaBears. We mostly got the Bad Rex. Injury to RB didn't help matters at all. Manning shredded our defense with short passes. No blitzes. Maybe it was good defensive strategy since we were in the game til that last Indy score. We didn't really take it to them I didn't think. I have no real complaints though. Are all of you satisfied since NFC figured to get bludgeoned in Super Bowl and we gave it a good shot or are you mad at ... a.) Lovie b.) defensive coordinator. c.) Rex. d.) God for making it rain. GO SOX!

Old Comiskey. Remember my dad had season tickets. I was probably 7 or 8. It was a doubleheader and I cried when he wanted to leave late in Game Two. It actually was a night doubleheader. Like most kids back then in 70s will never forget walking up the stairs on the lower level and seeing that big scoreboard in center field and the grass and the sound of bat hitting ball at batting practice. Sensory overload. That old park was amazing. Better than Wrigley.

2007 Sox. Am I the Only One Scratching My Head?
greg775 replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
SNB is right. It's that simple. -
Since Kenny makes it clear we won't have Mark B, why didn't we trade him to Texas instead of BMac?? We should have traded Mark this offseason considering he won't be a White Sox anymore after this season. We should trade him to the Cardinals as soon as possible.

It's good to see this is a landslide for the Sox. I couldn't find the one person's thread who voted for Da Bears. Sox for me by far. I do remember the 85 Bears and was thrilled at the time because Chicago hadn't won anything since the Bears' last title I believe. The Bears came through again and ended the city's slump. The Sox title is by far greater for me. Even greater than the 85 Bears with Payton and Ditka and Singletary. And thanks to the Sox for not making us nervous during the WS series. They smoked everybody in losing just that one game. Amazing. p.s. Is it getting a lot of pub that Chicago rarely makes the championship game or series, but when they do reach the ultimate game, they win, with the exception of 1959. Bears reach Super Bowl in 85 ... win. None of this gaining experience for the following year. Bulls reach the Finals six times, win every time. Never lost one once they got there. Sox reach Series two years ago ... win it. I guess the Blackhawks reached the finals that one year and lost but they don't count because they are a joke. GO BEARS!
-
Not to be an alarmist, but the signs are not good for Pods. A former speed guy with persistent groin woes and now surgery. It's time to thank Pods for the Series year and wish him well somewhere else. Erstad isn't very good is he? Go with the younguns, Sox.

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
greg775 replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My question to you is then ... if these players like Dye, Crede, Mark are not good enough to sign, why will other teams be lining up to sign them on their terms? If fiscal responsibility means getting rid of all the cogs of a world championship team and offending its fanbase in the process for what will certainly be downgrades at many positions, so be it. To you who blast me and others for bagging on Jerry for not spending money to keep our heroes ... who do you envision being our next Buehrle, our next Dye, our next Crede, our next Freddie, our next Contreras? You are counting on these guys Kenny is stockpiling to pan out and likely downgrades with Dye and Crede. and my position isn't as absurd as some of you make it out to be. My position is the one I've read by Couch and Morrissey in the Trib and Sun Times others are baffled as well. It's not like I am some complete moron who has watched no baseball in his lifetime. I've followed this team and baseball like the rest of you. And Tony if you hate my posts you must detest reading Couch and Morrissey, et all because what they have written is not much different than what I'm saying. -
Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?

I have one question. Why can't Chicago, one of the biggest and best cities in the world with a recent world championship be able to afford players like Dye and Buehrle. It really is sad that Chicago has to try to win titles the cheap ass way. Very sad. Mark B and Dye should remain White Sox. You seen the figures on what the White Sox franchise is worth?? Sell the team Jerry if you can't pay the freight. -
For the old timers, maybe he's destined to be the next Ken Berry. All field, no hit. The Sox were patient with Crede; maybe they plan the same with BA and he'll reward them soon by learning how to hit.
-
I love Buehrle. He deserves to get the best possible contract. He wants to be a White Sox. Will the White Sox make him the best offer he can get? Obviously not. I hope we keep him. If not, we'll probably have our front office people trash him when he's let go. I love the fact he admits he's a Cardinal fan. It's a free country.

I don't think Oz is dumb enough to piss off A.J. by cutting his at bats too many. Like AJ said in that one quote, our division is full of lefties and he doesn't want his at bats sliced by a significant margin. I do tire of seeing lefty starters mow down the Sox, though.
-
No I didn't. I just think we need to dump Juan. He looks fat and he's apparently in trouble with the authorities. Who needs him? Alex had a pretty good year last year I thought. I would suspect we'll be reading something in the Trib soon about how Uribe will be allowed to play for us this year. That item seems kind of weird.
-
Cut bait with Juan. We don't need him. Welcome to the lineup, Cintron.
-
I think he'll play less games and will hit righties well. Hope he doesn't get upset with the added bench time. I think he'll have a very good year. Hopefully he'll stay healthy.

Detroit's pitchers better be tired this season after all the crap spewed about how tired our pitchers were last season. Geez. You'd think an extra month was 6 months. Good to hear KW's comments otherwise though. He has a plan and I can't fault him too much for that. I don't want 100 loss seasons and he sensed they were coming.
