  1. America would be a better place if all kids had a job picking on a farm for a series of 18 hour work days at least one picking season of their lives. With no cell phones and no protective mommies and daddies. And in their free time play some unsupervised baseball and take a nap after that. Good old fashioned work.
  2. How much were tickets? Over $1,000 per ticket or ?
  3. I love Liam but he's blown what, six saves. I remember when Sox acquired him how everybody rejoiced. Remember when David Robertson used to blow a few saves? Did he ever blow six? Liam has such good stuff he closed the all star game. I still like him and his fastball but cmon, when are people going to realize most pitchers are NOT worth the money they are paid. Hell, wasn't Colome statistically a better Sox closer than Liam? And I do like Liam.
  4. Unbelievable world we live in. Tied to our phones. No offense to this guy but cmon. The game was on the line. Anybody with a brain knows Timmie just might go deep. This guy is looking at his phone, probably Tic Toc. I don't think our world is saveable. I really don't.
  5. Then it's gonna be Cubs-Mets, Cubs-Red Sox cause they will want to keep it big market. Probably Cubs-Red Sox.
  6. It was a great night for baseball for sure. Not even the biggest cynic around would dispute it was baseball's greatest night in a long time. White Sox-Yankees was perfect opponent. If they are going to do this again next year, it won't be the same. The stuff with Costner that was so special would be dumb in year two. Also the teams should be ones that have been around forever. I'd say Boston Red Sox vs. Cardinals would be a good one. This worked so well I'd let the big market Red Sox follow the Yankees. Then in year three, Cubs vs. Detroit.
  7. Nice night. Nice win. Timmy baby. Lotsa home runs.
  8. I just think it's illogical to do all the pre-game work and weight lifting and all you "get off" is the actual game. Baseball is a difficult game but there's not a lot of physical activity in 9 innings. Give 'em the whole day off.
  9. This post will surely draw the ire of most of the regular posters. But I ask, when a player gets a day off does he actually get a day off? Does he still take batting practice, take grounders, lift weights, run before and after the game? It seems to me the act of actually playing the game (4 at bats, some running on the bases, some action on defense) is not very meaningful if he's still doing all that other stuff. Maybe it helps mentally to skip one game a week but I still think this "resting" of players stuff is overrated if the player still works out pre game and post game. Ripken never needed to take time off to recharge mentally. A true day off would be to tell the player to skip BP, skip taking grounders, skip the running. Just show up and relax a day.
  10. I think your post is what actually will happen.
  11. I don't follow other teams as closely as I used to, in fact not at all. Sox have a lot of arms that need to be scrutinized and/or aided by DL stints, etc. And a lot of arms that need repair. Do other teams have this same problem? It seems like if you can somehow get 5 1/3 or 5 2/3 innings out of a Sox starter it's time to celebrate wildly. And a lot of pitchers have needed surgery. And it seems like there's always talk about how Sox pitchers are being watched for maximum amount of innings, etc. Are baseball pitchers close to being extinct species in sports or is this a Sox "problem" only?
  12. Didn't watch one second of the Olympics. Saw some highlights on social media. Did read about what was happening. Favorite athlete: Tamyra Mensah-Stock, female wrestling, born in Chicago now lives in Texas. Unabashed joy after winning while wearing the flag. Magnetic smile and personality. NBC woulda been smart to make her the face/main story of the Games. Also my favorite athlete runnerup: Kevin Durant, men's basketball, unabashed joy after winning gold. True leader of team making sure team won. Wasn't the greatest team but came a long way in a short period of time. Nobody ever said it would be easy all the time. Also fave athletes honorable mention: Sydney McLaughlin-Dalilah Muhammad going 1-2 in hurdles. Unabashed joy and patriotism exhibited after phenomenal race. Historically low TV ratings for Olympics. With so few cities bidding for the games, talk they will soon be extinct. Hard to imagine teams not boycotting the China winter games. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-08-09/15-5-million-viewers-nbc-tokyo-games-least-watched-olympics-ever
  13. Picking up the game now. See Abreu has another HR. He's quietly putting together another delightful season, folks. Hail to Jose. Let's win.
  14. Is Eloy really human? Wow. Reminds me of Dave Winfield only with more power. He is the definition of beast.
  15. I disagree it was less enjoyable cause the Cubs stink. To go in their park and win all three was great. Glad Anderson talked Tony into playing instead of his taking a day off. Shows Anderson really wanted to sweep those bums. Hey, when you have the better team, go ahead and sweep, baby,
  16. Congrats on being there. What's Wrigley like these days? Clean? Dirty? Still all college kids in the bleachers? Are there Great concessions and bathrooms now after renovation? Is it as beautiful still as before? Any good food there? Back in the day only "good" food to eat at Wrigley was Ron Santo pizza. At Sox park, yumm. Corned beef, roast beef my faves. Also ethnic food and just an all around dining experience.
  17. I watched a little early on. Rodon is special, folks. Hope he keeps it up. He is a damn fine pitcher. Sox are stepping up. Cubs got their attention after Sox had the stretch of playing all those lousy Central teams and Sox are focused for this series, baby. Tony is our best manager in a long, long time, yes even better than my idol, Ozzie. It's nice to have a veteran manager Hall of Famer who knows how to expertly run a game. I wouldn't be surprised if Tony figures a way to sweep these Cubbies in Wrigley. Do it Tony. Pick the right pieces to play Sunday.
  18. Everything in my mind always boils down to the Randy Quaid character in Major League. I mean I hate to be a d--k but what about today's game made it so non-enjoyable for a Sox fan? Sox blew the lead on a clutch 3-run wind aided Cub home run. It only tied the game. When Stoney reminded the Sox had the top of the order coming up, I thought, 'This will be a nice win, winning even after blowing the late lead.' Cub fans took off after Sox exploded in the 10th. That was awesome to see as a Sox fan. Cub fans gave up. Also Goodwin's blast was special. Yes it was annoying again when Cubs cut it to two in the bottom of the inning. But in my mind, if you can't enjoy that win, you might need to consider professional help. Cause it's still a "game" and whenever you play a game, BOTH SIDES are trying to win. For me, realizing how crushing that was to the Cubs and how neat it was to see Goodwin all smiles again, it was one of the most fun wins of the year. To me, if you hate that win, you just are the Randy Quaid character in Major League and you are only gonna be able to enjoy this ride when it's all over. Last pitch of the clinching World Series win. SOX WIN THE PENNANT! Sorry if I have a bad post here, I just truly can't understand the sentiment of anybody who is a Sox fan not enjoying that game. The Cub homer only tied it, folks. Sox still were in good shape entering the 10th.
  19. When I played sports I personally enjoyed any win, no matter how I performed, really no matter how the team performed. Enjoy the win, sir. Winning isn't everything as they say, it's the only thing. Just-Win. Baby.
  20. I disagree. I enjoyed watching from 7th inning on. It was a good game. Say what you want these are 2 rivals whether some of the spoil-sports on this board wanna believe it or not. Cubs did a nice job of shockingly erasing a late 3-run deficit. I enjoyed the Sox rally in the 10th and some good pitching by the closer. Call me a pollyanna but I enjoyed the win.
  21. Exciting victory. I watched from the 7th inning on. GOODWIN! Please give Goodwin a break next time he makes a key out. That's at least 2 games recently he won single-handedly. He drove that pitch beautifully into the bleachers. Lot of good things about the victory. I many times get mad./despondent but had a feeling the best team would win today. Blowing a 4-1 lead sucked, sure, but top of the order was coming up like Stoney said and I for some reason had a 'good' feeling. Sox win!
  22. Jose is still having a good year. Hell he's got a zillion RBIs and 20 homers so I shouldn't be so picky. Maybe it's just the games I watch but the games I've watched he hasn't seemed to be raking as he did last year when I watched. It's almost like a jinx. When I watch, he's not typical Jose. See the ball mash the ball. You said he's too aggressive tonight. I think Sox hitters are too passive. They take a ton of pitches.
  23. The Sox record of late has been quite pedestrian.
  24. Moncada should hit second, not Grandal.
  25. I can get as mad as the next guy about the Sox when they play lousy, but if you send somebody a death threat over their performance (Sixer fans to Ball) you need to reassess your life. More importantly, you need to be thrown in jail. Can't go around sending death threats to people. Hopefully anybody who does that will be caught and prosecuted and not let off. People need to get a grip. Also I'd love to see Twitter disbanded. Same ol same ol. Most people on Twitter who post personal insults and threats do so with screen names so it's impossible for them to face prosecution when they take it too far.
