  1. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:39 AM) Aaron Judge has 33 HR's and is posting a 1.066 OPS. But that's what happens when you only are exposed to White Sox and Royals baseball. Oh, and Jose Abreu hit 30 HRs as a rookie. 36, actually. Good stat on Abreu. I think he should be part of the rebuilt team as well. You need vets to win pennants to go with the young guys. Back to Davidson. I am flabbergasted by this current argument how I'm getting no support for Davidson. My FINAL ATTEMPT as I have to go to bed. Let's say Davidson's name was Robert or Rutherford. Let's say either of them had the exact same stats right now in their debut season. Let's say Robert or Rutherford did finish with 30 dongs and the same statgeek (no offense) stats. Exact same. What would you be saying about Robert or Ruthford? My guess is you and everybody on here would be doing handstands in glee for those guys.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:31 AM) Yes, due to reasons I stated in an earlier post. He is a replacement level player as of right now. OMG. You are going to criticize a 26 year old rookie who hits 30 home runs in his first showing in the bigs? I love Moncada, but lets say over the next eight weeks he gets about 8 hits and continues to hit .100. Would u dare criticize him? Don't you see the cliche aspect of what you are saying? All these recent trades and these players we got are beloved. Davidson 'could' hit 30 fricking home runs in his debut season? If he does, my gosh, he deserves rookie of the year. How many rookies hit 30 fricking home runs? Cmon people, does nobody support me on this??
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 04:20 AM) Burger is 21 years old right now and projects to hit for solid average, play passable defense and have good pop. I expect more from him than we get from Davidson. Hopefully he delivers. Davidson is a 26 year old who is currently a replacement level player. Outside of home runs he is not a very good all around player right now, so yes, I will criticize him. Your evaluation is totally wrong and is not how a front office views talent in the modern MLB. Now is fine. Are u going to criticize him if he pops nine more home runs and hits 30 in limited at bats?
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 04:02 AM) You are ignoring any of davidsons other stats outside of home runs. A .291 OBP is not good. He does not hit for average, does not get on base and is a below average defensive player. I will criticize any of our prospects if they statistically aren't up to par. It's his first shot at the big leagues for gosh sakes. First shot. If he hits 30 home runs he should be rookie of the year candidate.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:40 AM) Home runs ignore a larger statistical examination of the player. Davidson does not hit for average, draw walks or play decent defense. Should he get the chance during a rebuild? Of course, but I'm not expecting him to be a part of our longer term future at this point. Proves my point. Let's say Burger is the identical same player his first season with the Sox. Exact same. You can't tell me you wouldn't be ecstatic with Burger cause of the hype.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:35 AM) At least we are at a point where you admit you're OK ignoring facts and data. I seem to remember people on this board saying Frazier had a lot of value on the trade market with his .202 BA. I'm just saying this euphoria over the "name" prospects can be sickening when a guy like Davidson in limited at bats "could" still whack 30 home runs. I don't care about any secondary stats. I sure hope he gets to 30 to see what people are saying about him. You can't tell me if Robert, Rutherford, Burger ever approach 30 homers in the majors they won't get way more love than Davidson. How many people on here even consider Davidson a decent prospect right now? Not many. But 30 homer production in limited at bats suggests he should be hyped as well.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:58 PM) He came into today with a -0.2 WAR. With his 20 HRs he still has a OPS of .763. He plays marginal defense and will be 27 when the season opens in 2017. He has been included in many of the potential lineups in this thread for next season, so I have zero idea where you claim "no interest in him being in the lineup next year" You make things up to take things to the extreme, but it's simply false. Cmon Tony. Nobody's high on Davidson like they are those recent acquisitions. Like I said if Eloy hit 30 homers and hit .230 like Davidson is gonna do there'd be a proverbial parade on here. I don't care really about anything right now with Davidson cept 30 home runs. He should play enough to reach that mark and cmon 30 home runs? He should be talked about as much as any prospect if he bangs 30 homers.
  8. This is why I laugh so much at the cliches out there regarding this rebuild. Look, Davidson has 21 home runs. He conceivably could hit 30 this year, s*** there are 8 weeks to go. If he hit 30 home runs is everybody gonna still be yawning about Davidson?? He gets absolutely no buzz, no interest in him being a possible stud in the future. No interest in him being in the lineup next year. It's all Burger for 3B, etc. Davidson is not a sexy name but what if Moncada was storming toward 30 homers or Rutherford or Eloy? People would be going nuts all over!! Look folks, Davidson given the proper number at bats is gonna hit 30 home runs this year. Yawn time?
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) Bye bye steroid guy. No tears here. He was horrid until this season but of course everybody credits him for this season and praises him for bringing back minimal return. However I am on record as saying the Melkman won me over!! I do applaud him forever for taking that ball off the chin HARD, staying in the box and getting a hit. In a season where his team is this pathetic, it told me a lot that rich Melky was willing to stay in the game after getting his jaw rattled like that. MELKY is da man. Before this year I despised him however.
  10. Sox finally got a hit. And Rodon is pitching well. Aside from that, wow, this team blows.
  11. So U.S. blasts China over not stopping North Korea's bulls***. North Korea says it can and will attack the US. US says we will sanction Russia and North Korea and China. More importantly, after North Korea's latest threats to attack us ... This from CNN: Continuing another trend, the US on Saturday sent two B-1 bombers from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam on a 10-hour round trip over the Korean Peninsula in what the US Pacific Air Forces called a direct response to the North Korean missile test. The B-1s teamed up with Japanese and South Korean fighter jets to test "combined capabilities" during the mission, the US military said in a statement. Folks we are going to wake up one morning to something pretty radical. I wouldn't discount us dropping some bombs on their leader's headquarters trying to kill him. I can see Trump's reasoning. They flat out are saying they are going to nuke us. We HAVE to protect ourselves and kill him first. I would prefer issuing a warning to Kim Jong-Un and say next missile test, you can expect immediate retaliation in the form of immediate violence of some king. It's all up to you. This is heading toward conflict, folks, severe military contact. And I don't like what I've heard about China's Army. The minute they decide to come on over and attack our mainland, I'm not liking that at all.
  12. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) I haven't really read that he is a "free swinger", I've seen way more accounts of people saying he strikes out looking a lot. Eventually he will learn to foul some of them off but I'd much rather he K looking at a fringe strike than missing a slider in the dirt I kind of agree. I'm sick of the Tank approach to hitting where guys frankly swing at everything. Even Anderson seems to do that. I kind of agree with knackattack. It seems to me you can't convince free swingers to take pitches. At least Moncada's style has him laying off a lot of stuff a la Frank Thomas. I'd suggest with Moncada's obvious talent I'd rather go this route.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Of course not. He had the sage Ron Schueler at his side advising him back then. You remember Ron Schueler, don't you? He was the guy brought in by the genius owner after the 1990 season as the guy who, the owner explained to us at the time, would "get the team from Point B to Point C", meaning a championship. Reinsdorf fired the guy who got the team from "Point A to Point B" through successful drafts and trades that brought the team the likes of Thomas, Ventura, McDowell, Fernandez, Alvarez, Lance Johnson, Sosa, etc. But the genius owner deemed him unable to get the team to this "Point C" apparently because he wasn't very chummy in the office. Meanwhile, when a "Point C" opportunity presented itself in 1997 with the team only 3 1/2 games out of first place on July 31st, Point C general manager and the genius owner went in the direction of the infamous "White Flag" trade. And Point C general manager would go onto never getting the team to Point C, ironically. Still wonder to this day if Point A to Point B general manager could have done so. Excellent post. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) Five years after the deal I did a long, historical story on that day and the impact at that time on the franchise. Here is the link for any interested: http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/rwas/in...y=2&id=1528 Amazing, must read article. The White Flag situation was despicable then and according to Lipman's beautiful writing and research, will always be remembered as a horrible part of our team's history. Good job on Caruso, White Sox. He really was a star. I'm amazed this board has so many front office lovers when except for the beautiful, delightful, stupendous 2005, our organization blows chunks. The front office lovers can believe all our trades this time around have been great. Obviously I now want the trades to all be great as I WANT TO WIN. And I want more WS titles. I will wait and see on that. Lip Man's article is a must read. This is pure talent, Lipman. Good job.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 05:47 AM) They haven't forced a single fan to attend a game. Yes, but the product is so bad they should do something very nice for these fans. Maybe free parking the rest of the year or like I suggested LOTS of free food and drink. Especially season ticket holders. They've totally switched this team's roster and again, the pitchers gracing our mound are disgustingly bad, two or three who arguably should be in the independent league.
  15. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 05:06 AM) what are we like 1-14 since the all star break? Winning doesn't mean anything.. but this team has to be embarrassed. I don't know how you could be an athlete and have pride and confidence and go out there nigh after night and look so horrible. Has to be tough. It's very embarrassing and insulting to see the hacks they are putting on the mound and charging big league prices. Our fans are amazing! Management should do the right thing and give every fan who can prove they've been to more than one game since the all star break free sandwich, beer, hot dog or coke. I'd give 25 dollar coupons for food/drink the rest of the season to any fan willing to watch this crap.

QUOTE (zisk @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) Royals need a bat and a better hitting shortstop. Melky and Saladino would fit nicely. Have read they might want a starter as well. If Migo or Holland were included and we ate the salaries, the Sox could get a very solid prospect or two. Jorge Soler is raking at AAA. There's no way in hell Royals would put Saladino at short over Escobar. That's ridiculous. There's no way in hell the Royals would start Migo or Holland. They are never that despearate. Melky? Yeah they'd probably take him. I'd try to rob them and get the disappointing Starling. Trade Melky and Tito Polo for Starling.
  17. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) If you aren't at least a little worried about him you're lying to yourself. Look, you can't worry about Moncada until the games matter. It's that simple. That could be one year, two years, three years. Who knows? Besides those 2 defensive plays proved he's got a glove which is important. Also the negative side of me says look, Sox fans are going to give the benefit of the doubt to ALL the young guys we got in trades who are supposed to be good. Are you gonna be the one who isn't? This board is full of "the front office can do no wrong" people. What's with the one bit of negativity? The eye test looks good to me regarding Moncada. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 02:19 AM) Jesus f***ing Christ dude, you won't give Moncada two weeks before panicking but want to rush Jimenez from A+ ball in a foolish attempt to win some meaningless games next year. Maybe you should take a couple years off White Sox baseball, because rebuilding is clearly not for you. Whoa. Your demeanor is interesting. Have a shot of bourbon and calm down. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 02:34 AM) I can't remember someone with worse body language on the mound than Clippard. It really looks like he has no interest being on the mound, and he is scared about what is going to happen next. He's so terrible. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 03:51 AM) I am just absolutely floored by the ways our pen fails us What pen? They are just bodies. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 04:08 AM) White Sox scored zero runs off their bunt tonight. Keep on bunting in the free world. This bunting is insane. Maybe they really are trying to lose. Renteria has to be a one and done manager with his philosophies regarding bunting. No sane manager bunts. No manager with a team 25 games below .500 bunts period.
  18. Just watched those Moncada plays. Well, you can pencil him in at second for the next 12 years. Those plays showed the kind of defense he can play. Even if he never hit a lick (I'm sure he'll hit just fine) his defense would assure him big league starter. Those plays were absolutely unbelievable. Both of them. Those are cool outfits on Stone and Bennetti.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 12:46 AM) That's not necessarily true. If he is thinking breaking ball and gets heater, he guessed wrong. That happens. He has never faced any of these pitchers, he is learning them as he goes. Dude you have to stop freaking out from bat to bat, he will learn. Fathom's not freaking out. He likes to look at technical stuff and does a good job of it as players progress/regress/maintain IMO. As far as our stud prospects (the first round types; the key pieces in the trades, not the throw ins), I'm just assuming all of them are going to be superstars. It's the best way to survive with Sox fans who are going to give them soooo much time to impress. You won't hear/see me criticizing Moncada, Rutherford, Robert, Burger, TA, Eloy, Collins and all those pitchers.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) He absolutely does not have a free pass until the Sox are contenders. Assuming everything works out, they'll be contending in 2019 or 2020. Not everything works out that way all the time. It's certainly possible that prospects bust, the Sox don't have the pieces, and they aren't contenders until 2030. That would be awful, but it's certainly possible. Anderson will probably be a given chances into and maybe through 2019, but they'll be looking for replacements at that point if there's nothing from him. How can you judge a guy when the team is this bad? You go to the park and it really means nothing. Sure you might want good personal stats but I'd assume it affects your entire plate appearance. If team is down 7-0 in the fourth and the team is 15 games back of first, how can you care about working the count, etc. You just try to hit a homer. Now if the team is a contender and every bat counts, there'd be more concentration I'd think. This losing stuff can go both ways. You might get a high draft pick, but I would think (not saying I'm right) it would affect everybody on the current roster in a not so good way. I guess trying to earn a big time contract might be incentive enough, possibly.
  21. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) I have a feeling they are looking at making a free agent splash this offseason. KC is not going to let Hosmer walk, but that could open Moustakas up to be swiped. 4 years/$80m seems reasonable for both sides, if not a little bit of a bargain for the Sox. Free agency isn't what it used to be, though. I think Moustakas has hit the jackpot with the timing of this season in which he's become a power hitter deluxe. Boston or the Yankees figure to offer more than 4 years 80 million. Don't you think he's headed to Boston for money we can't even imagine?
  22. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Although the rebuild, aka; "house cleaning," is likely not quite finished, it's not too early to begin to think about the Major League roster for next year. Almost all of the young guys will be vying for their various positions down on the farm, while the parent club bides its time, and looks forward to a few more high draft picks next June and in 2019. Nevertheless, there are benefits to grooming a few players, who may either become part of the equation for 2019, or be decent trade candidates, used to fill other needs. In any case, someone has to play!!!! In that context, it would be fun and interesting to consider whom you all think might comprise the starting lineup, next year, while we all wait for 2019. Here is my suggestion: CF Adam Engel or Cordell. (Both are Right Handed). My rational is that both guys possess good enough tools and are now too old to waste more time in the Minors, where they would be taking up roster spots, needed for the very promising younger prospects. It's time to find out what they can do. Tilson is another name, but you have to wonder if he can stay healthy. 3B Jake Peter. (Left Handed) His recent emergence as an offensive contributor should boost his stock. I'd like to see him at third, as he is supposed to have a pretty good arm, being a former pitcher. He seems like a good candidate for the 2 hole, because of his good plate discipline and contact skills. 2B Yoan Moncada.(Switch Hitter) I realize that hitting him third may be putting some extra pressure on him, but having Abreu and Avi behind him, should provide a little protection for him, and help ensure that he sees more hittable pitches. DH Jose Abreu. (RH) He is clearly the best hitter on this team. It's time to see if he can still be productive, while DH'ing, as that is likely to be his long term role, once the rebuilt team matures. RF Avi Garcia. (RH) If he can finally realize his power potential, and learn to take his walks, he may be worth extending, but if not, he could be traded to fill any hole, in the next wave. LF Nick Delmonico/Cody Asche (Both bat LH) The lineup needs another left handed hitter, and I'd like to see if either of these guys could produce at the next level. They are both having pretty good years, at AAA, especially vs RHP. Maybe one of them could platoon with Willie Garcia, whom I like. 1B Matt Davidson (RH) He has established himself as a legitimate power threat, but probably is better suited to first base, than the hot corner. C Omar Narvaez (LH) I like his plate discipline and ability to draw walks. You may be surprised to know that he leads the team in OBP, even if he has no power. I'm not sure if he's good enough defensively. ???? SS Time Anderson (RH) Well, he is signed long term, so these next 2 years are his chance to demonstrate that he can be part of this promising Sox future. I am still convinced that he must develop better plate discipline, if he is ever going to realize his potential. If not, SS will be a hole, going into that window of contention, starting in 2019 or 2020. You'll note that this projected lineup does not include the acquisition of any veterans. I don't see the point in taking that route. Let's see who can either be part of the future, or provide a trading chip. Sanchez and Leury top my list for the bench. That leaves the pitching, which is going to be very interesting. Unless they start bringing the prospects, it's hard to imagine who is going to fill out the rotation, as well as the bullpen. That would be another interesting discussion. Any suggestions?? It depends. If the Sox truly do want to finish last again, wink wink, your post is beautiful. That's a 40 win team (depending on the pitching staff I guess). If you go with the type of starters they had this year (your Holland, Pelfrey, Shields taking 3 of the 5 slots) and don't use a real closer, it's a 40-45 win team. If you are actually trying to win, well your lineup may be quite different.
  23. I can imagine Anderson will be judged two different points of his career. a.) How he is doing as a member of one of the worst teams in baseball. b.) How he is doing as a contender. He has a free pass til the Sox are contenders. At that point, he'll be re-assessed again. Same with Rodon, all the first-round prospects we've acquired. They won't truly be judged til we are contenders and their performance means something. Moncada could hit .100 up until the point we are considered a legitimate team. At that point and only that point would he be judged. Anderson has a free pass right now. He should take advantage of it. I do stand by my comment that he should take off the rest of the season to properly get help for losing such a close friend. He could go play some lower level ball by his hometown to properly mourn. This is serious emotional stuff he's been through and if he needs help he should get it. Best wishes to TA.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) I guess you can't spell Holland without the lol. Good line. He wouldn't be a good Independent League pitcher right now. He's rich, though, so he deserves credit for being set for life.
