  1. Ozzie blew it for himself. He's not going to any team again as manager, ever. It's fine to talk, talk, talk, but in this day and age, especially of PC, you are not going to hire Ozzie Guillen. He'll talk about anything as he proved with the Castro situation and no owner needs to take that risk. Managers aren't that important. Ozzie no doubt enjoys managing but first and foremost he's all about the money (as most people are) and nobody's going to hire him as manager. I would think he could get a job as a scout with a team or some kind of job, but he's probably not interested. You'd think he'd be perfect as a color announcer in the booth.
  2. I worshipped Ozzie. Only flaw IMO was the Sunday lineups. Nobody can hire The Mouth That Roared though. Too risky. He can and will say anything once he starts loving the media attention again.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) I mean you're the one who thinks Hahn has put together the best team of all time for 2020 already. I do believe what I said about those prospects. I think on paper there are a bunch of them that are can't miss. Really do. Based on the eye test a bit, sure, but Eloy and Moncada are pretty impressive specimens and the pitchers' fastball clockings do not lie. Some of them are monsters. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) I have encountered a few trolls on this site, posters who are spoiling for a fight, belittling, hurling insults, playing the one-upmanship game, etc. Greg isn't a troll and neither am I. I just come here to check on White Sox news, opinions and to occasionally share my own opinion or ask a question. Unfortunately trolling is a sport, maybe even a lifestyle for a few sorry basturds that have nothing better to do with their time. Thank you brother. I may be dense but I am not a troll. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) Also Greg: "Why did they sign pathetic Adam Dunn and John Danks to such a big contract? They should DFA them right now." Whoa. This board KNOWS I worshiped Danks. I supported him til the end. Ask the mods. I was so behind Danks. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Greg isnt a troll, despite what many people here think of him. He chooses to make uninformed statements frequently and ignore counterarguments and facts presented to him. He calls people who use statistics in arguments "statniks" because he doesnt recognize the full application of these stats within arguments. Its just who he is. Recently he did toe the line of troll and recognized it and stepped back. Kudos for that. Pretty much everyone on this site is a true white sox fan. You are a great man. These statements are probably true. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) Why is it so hard for some here to understand greg's argument? He is rating the rebuild process entirely by the on field results of the White Sox. It's extremely short sighted and easy to disagree with (as I do), but it's not that hard to understand that he's rating the rebuild a 2 right now because the 2016 White Sox are 45-70. Exactly. Finally someone understands my position. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) I find greg to be the most entertaining poster on this board. If he is a troll he is really bad.....err good at it? I think he should have his own forum. Thanks. I am a Sox and Brother Rice fan, that is for sure. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Because while he grades it a 2, he also is 100% certain that the prospects acquired thus far will result in what would be one of the greatest teams in the history of baseball in 2-3 years. Those things cannot be combined together Yes they can. One of the guys said he understood my position. I think it was Rowand. Ask him to explain! QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 10:32 PM) If you're only grading on 2016 results of the major league team, a 2 is reasonable, even with all the talent that is not yet at the ML level. Now, it's completely fair to say that method of grading is shortsighted and asinine, but it's also easy enough to understand. That's what I'm saying. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) Another 2 things I would not put together If I were 100% certain the Sox were going to have 11 All-Stars on the 2020 team built from 4 trades + an INTL signing I'd be buying season tickets and rank the rebuild as a 10 No, cause I do firmly believe my grade will be changing in coming years cause I believe he's assembled some studs. But the grade is an ongoing thing as SOME on there understand and some don't. I am not a front office shill, folks. I judge them just as I am judged. GO SOX! Thank u for the kind posts.
  4. I can see why Trump blamed some people besides the white supremists. He ripped white supremists and Nazis. He said he despises their actions. What more do you want? I get it. Everybody despises Trump. But what has he done so bad of late in regard to this situation? You know, the hooligans ripping down statues aren't the best behaved people as well. Trump is awful. We all know that but he's not racist, folks. He's just not no matter how much you want him to prove to be one.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) I am now certain that ron883 is the same person as greg775. Two different personas, but the same underlying person. Why are you guys so pro front office and pro management?
  6. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Greg, since the end of the Korean War, North Korea has, to some degree or another, threatened South Korea and the West with war. Since the end of the Korean War, we have avoided war with North Korea. Most foreign policy experts would attribute that to North Korea using threats to get concessions (lifting of sanctions, economic aid, etc.). And most foreign policy experts would tell you North Korea does not want all out war because that would be a surefire war for the Kim dynasty to be removed from power. In that light, it's not surprising that NK has backed off on their Guam threats. An all out war is literally the last thing they want... Good. Thanx for the background. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) They rattle the sabers every year when the US and SK are conducting joint exercises in the area. The worry now is that Kim or Trump or both will back themselves into a corner that they can't really get out of without escalating to shooting. I'm glad NK blinked first. Nice post. Me too. I was happy when I read NK blinked.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) You're as big of a troll as greg now... It's not trolling to suggest Jerry will be making a lot of money the next several seasons thanks to the rebuild. True they paid Robert. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) The trolling has gotten bad. I think the tinfoil hats are causing short circuits. It's not trolling to blast our front office and owner. I'm glad we won it in 05, so glad and I hate to even say this, BUT if we hadn't made that WS and stormed to the title, we arguably could be considered the worst organization in baseball history, albeit there would be a couple other contenders. Granted, we did win it all, erasing the worst organization talk, but still there's no question the Sox have done plenty of things worth criticizing and not drinking the Koolaid does not make one a troll. The Royals annoucers were mocking the Sox in the last season, does that mean they are trolling? What the hell is a troll anyway?
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) SK's President called for a non-military solution and said that any military strikes would need to be approved by SK first. NK appears to be backing off their "bomb the waters off of Guam" statements for now, too. I was very surprised NK finally said something reasonable. I can't remembrer anything reasonable coming out of Kim's mouth before. Hopefully Trump's aggressive stance is, gulp, helping here? I really don't want to see nukes hitting Guam, South Korea, Hawaii and the US Mainland. It'll be the end of humanity.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:06 AM) Out of Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Rutherford, Collins, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech and Dunning.....The Sox will be INCREDIBLY fortunate for 5 of them to reach their potential. That is how baseball has worked...forever. If you can't grasp that concept, that's on YOU. That would be 5 of 9. Of the guys listed I think the only ones who "may not" reach their potential are Rutherford, Dunning and Lopez. There's a pretty solid skill set on Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Collins, Gio, Kopech. In my world that's six can't miss and hopeful on Rutherford, Lopez and Dunning.
  10. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 04:00 AM) It's a bit, his usual tired and old bit. Saying the prospects are "can't miss" and going to all be stars when we know in reality (he does too, he's just being extremely sarcastic) that that's just not the case. This thread has been gregged, like several other casualties in the past, he came in here and gregged the place up, adding nothing of substance to what was supposed to be a real discussion. Any chance at real discussion gets sidetracked by blatant buffoonery on a pretty regular basis, and in all honesty, it brings the quality of the board down with the constant foolishness. Posters are actually taking time to try and explain real points to someone with no interest of listening, while he's just beating the drum of a broken system. I guess to him, attempting to go for it and failing (essentially the last 10 years) and finishing middle of the pack every year is apparently better than building from the ground up by design (while getting potentially high impact talent at the same time). He's just trolling, despite the urge, try not to feed it. I know it will keep happening, because that's where he gets his jollies. He was "supposed to" stop acting like this, per his own post, but yet here we are running the same drill over and over again. The Sox aren't doing what he wants them to do so he's pouting and ruining it (or trying to ruin it) for everyone else. Sorry to offend. I don't see why assessing a low grade right now (2) is considered so off base when right now we are losing. When the prospects start to deliver, uh, the grade rises. Why would anybody give it an 8, 9 or 10 when even as you say we have no assurances the guys will all be great. Finally, I truly 100 percent believe the guys I mentioned are "can't miss." With the exception of Rutherford and Burger they all either are physical monsters or flamethrowing pitchers. The thread is called "when can Sox contend?" I don't know why I'm not allowed to enter such thread. I can assure you my opinions are 100 percent real. I think those guys are can't miss, yes. Then why the low grade??? Because for gawd sakes our record right now blows, it will blow next year, maybe another year. That is MISERY. Once we get good, uh, the grade goes to 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. Seriously, why am I the bad guy here? I can't contribute to a thread? If u feel a thread is gregged or going to be gregged let me know and I seriously will not post there. I promise ... just say STOP and I'll cease.
  11. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 01:04 AM) Except he is. I already posted the video straight from the horse's mouth. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3552428 i can't click on links from this board; one of em sent my computer haywire. (do u really truly believe the president of the USA is a racist? cmon)
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:06 AM) Once again, you refuse to listen to anyone, which is why you are always at odds with nearly everyone on this board. There is no such thing as a can't miss prospect. Out of Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Rutherford, Collins, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech and Dunning.....The Sox will be INCREDIBLY fortunate for 5 of them to reach their potential. That is how baseball has worked...forever. If you can't grasp that concept, that's on YOU. I can grasp concepts but those guys have too much raw talent and most of them have a talent that is extraordinary, such as an amazing fastball or incredible physique and/or speed. There are prospects and there are prospects. That's why I say a Burger could flop; possibly a Rutherford (but you've got so many other outfielders it won't matter if Rutherford flops somehow). Name a guy that can flop in the guys I mentioned? Maybe TA. If you are talking injury, that's a different topic.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 07:56 PM) Trump just condemned racism and called the KKK, neo-nazis, and white supremacists "repugnant". Bannon will be out by the end of the week, I'd guess. I know there was no real feeling behind it and he was only doing it because he had to, but TBH it was a good speech. I haven't got involved in this but I knew he'd come around to saying what everybody wanted him to say. The president is not a racist, folks, whether you want to believe that or not. Maybe he doesn't always say the right thing (remember his EGO is first and foremost on his mind everytime he opens his mouth) but he's not a racist. Sorry, I don't believe the president of the USA is a racist or KKK supporter or a Nazi supporter. I mean, cmon. Do u guys really believe that??? He's a 2 out of 10 as president but he's not those things guys. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) Two days too late, though, for a man who'll insult and attack anyone he feels like by name at the drop of a hat. Whatever. At least he did it today. He ripped those bastards a good one.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) So the lineup will feature 5-8 all-stars, the rotation will be lights out, but overall the rebuild is a 2 and there's no guarantee the Sox will contend even with 1/2 of the 25 man roster in the ASG. I'll order two of whatever you've had today. Do you agree that the guys I mentioned are can't miss (Eloy, Robert and Rutherford are can't miss; Collins; TA and Moncada; too much raw talent; Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech, Cease, Hansen and Dunning are can't miss with Fulmer. Burdi, Adams, Clarkin right there as well)? The rebuild however is a 2 with the grade far from finalized. The grade switches as results are registered. Right now all I see is pathetic baseball with more to come. It all gets considered in the final rebuild equation.
  15. Jacob May. He's 25 and running out of time. Poor guy. His career MLB stats 2 for 36 with three walks. Former third round draft pick.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) You just seemed amazed that a 5'6" guy had 10 homers in the minor leagues. I was just showing how the same franchise has a major league player who is 5'6" with 20+ homers and may win the MVP award. Nice catch. Good job. This guy's stats beg a September call up. Would love to get him. He might be a real leadoff hitter at 5-6.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) You have every right to be whatever kind of fan you want. But that doesn't mean people have to respect your flip flopping illogical ideas that you constantly bring up. Thanks. I was waiting for somebody to tell me I have no right to cheer if the rebuild works since I'm against it. But u did not say that. Thanks. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Well, your previous posts in this thread tell a different story. Saying that all of the pitching prospects are sure things and talking about how good it's going to be in a couple years is pretty much the opposite of being against the rebuild. But anyway... I'm pointing out what I believe to be true. The starters I mentioned all will work out. They all have the stuff and have Coop to work with. As far as the position players I think Eloy, Robert and Rutherford will all be major league stars. Not sure on Burger. TA and Moncada and Abreu will be stars. Collins will be a star. Avi and some of the other outfielders will cover the outfield/DH slots as well. A Gillaspie might be good as well as next season's overall No. 1 pick might be another star. If this all happens obviously my grade for the rebuild will go up. As of now, only Moncada is contributing and tho I like him, he's hitting .200. So we shall see. My grade could go from 2 to 9 or 10 if we make the WS and win the WS. It could be an 8 if we at least dominate the division. I'm not flip flopping . Right now it's a 2.
  18. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) There is no such thing as a can't miss prospect. That's why they are called prospects. The ones we're talking about have huge potential and very high ceilings, and the chances are good that they will succeed to some extent. But there are no guarantees. By the way, since when are you so excited about the rebuild? A couple weeks ago you were rating it a 2 out of 10. I'm not excited about the rebuild; I'm totally against it. I still give it a 2 until it starts to prove worthy of the grade increasing. But I told u all before I have the right to cheer for the team if it works. That's what fandom is all about. I'm just pointing out what's going to happen now. With all the positions covered, the Sox will with the blessing of the fans make more money than ever, cause the payroll will be nothing. I'm against all the losing seasons involved in a rebuild of course but I have the right to continue being a fan if it works and they get good again. I'm still watching games during the down times.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Have you ever heard of this guy in Houston? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/altuvjo01.shtml Don't understand your question. My point is he's so much better than Clippard no way we are getting him. If we do get him, start him now, bat him leadoff and see what we got.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Can is 2020, most likely is 2021. Not saying you, but I laugh at how low the bar is set for the rebuild in terms of how quickly the Sox can start winning big. Fans are amazing nowadays. If you rebuild with all mysterious young guys, the patience is infinite of fans. Sox front office don't have to worry about people 'expecting' wins any time soon, they are having too much fun with the rebuild. I'll say one thing if guys like Moncada are on a terrible W/L team in 2020 they may really get used to losing. That'd be his fourth season of team suck.
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Way too early to say that. If they all pitch to expectations, the rotation will be one of the best. If some exceed expectations, could be the best in baseball. But we've got a long way to go before we know how they will all perform. The names on the list I mentioned are can't miss maybe with the exception of Cease and Burdi. I guess Fulmer could bust. The rest have too much going for them.
  22. Tony Kemp is having a great season. How can a guy 5-foot-6 have 10 home runs? He's hitting .324 with a .373 OBP. There's no way this guy is the player to be named for Clippard, who is horrific. If Kemp is the player, the Sox should start him immediately and bat him lead off and see what they've got.
  23. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) Social media has already got a couple of the rally goers canned from their jobs. Better stick to the hoods fellas. Good. An employer owes it to America to fire anybody who is a Nazi.
  24. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) Hard to push that after a majority of that crowd is running around with Nazi arm bands and Fascist symbolism. WTF are some Americans embracing Nazi-ism? I mean were these people born in sewers? Good luck getting a job ever and functioning in society if you are proclaiming yourself a Nazi. I mean your future is in one place: Jail. Hopefully these Nazis will be willing to boast about their affiliation so as to never get hired again. I mean out yourselves, proud Nazis. Tell the world who you are. Ridiculous. This horrible rally and the injuries/deaths stole the headlines from the Korea krap for a day or two. That's ready to blow up again anyday now as well. Let there be peace on earth please.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:53 AM) The pitching is ridiculously thin. Exactly 2 major league pitchers on the major league team; if you generously figure 2 prospects for 1 major league player, and if you assume Lopez is major league, they would need 6 good starting prospects and 10-12 for the bullpen. And that would still leave them with no depth. So, to answer the question, it may be a while. What do you mean bout the pitching being a disaster zone? The starting rotation is Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech (sp?) and Cease. these are all can't miss major leaguers. Plus Hansen, Fulmer and Dunning. Burdi, Adams and Clarkin. You already have a full staff of starters and relievers here. Like I said add one vet starter maybe and 2 bullpen guys for a few bucks and you are talking low low payroll for a No. 1 in the league pitching staff. The two prospects for 1 major league player doesn't make sense regarding these guys. And I'm probably forgetting somebody. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) 2) I read yesterday that the White Sox are contemplating moving Avi Garcia and Abreu this off season. I have no doubt in my mind that both of them will be moved for prospects. More salary dumps. The team now has the worse pitching staff in MLB. Without Avi Garcia and Abreu we will have the worse offense in MLB And the lowest payroll in MLB. that will be very sad if they drop Abreu and Avi. At some point you need a couple veteran bodies I would think. But maybe not. The Sox also are set position player wise. I will grant you a couple of these guys could fizz. But you've got Burger, TA, Moncada and Abreu (hopefully) around the horn. You've got Collins at catcher and you have an unprecedented in Sox history superstar outfield of Eloy, Robert and Rutherford in the outfield with Avi DH or Basabe or Polo or Cordell or whomever in the outfield. You've also got Gillaspie in the mix and others I'm forgetting. Plus whoever they draft in 2018 at the No. 1 spot. That might even be another pitcher at this point. I would say the pitching is pretty much set with can't miss/big league types. I'll acknowledge a lot of the hitters could flame out but on paper, this payroll projects to be LOW LOW LOW for a long long time making the owners mighty happy. They have it made. They can have the lowest of payrolls and the fans will love it. Not often that happens. Hahn is invaluable to these owners cause he's putting so much money in their pockets.
