  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 01:49 AM) Demote, what an incredibly disappointing season The young guys will have to get used to trying to work on their own games and excel in spite of the fact they come to the park realizing there's no chance of winning. That has to be tough to get used to. It has to affect your performance when the team you play on is one of the worst if not the worst in baseball. It's probably one reason to just keep all the prospects in the minors until 3 seasons from now, then start the season with all of them raring to go. Not saying it's impossible, but good luck to our young guys playing on such a miserable, pathetic team.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 02:41 AM) Kelly is as unhinged and paranoid as the rest of them Hmmm. You guys laugh at me when I talk about the danger of getting your head chopped off in a movie theatre, mall, anywhere.
  3. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) I'm in my mid 20s. Honestly, those statistics match what I see from my age group. Coke is pretty prevalent. Is it true almost 100 percent of NBA players use marijuana? What's your age group like with marijuana? Is it more popular than drinking? Give us a societal update on alcohol/drug consumption with 20 somethings please. And is beer no longer considered cool? I heard beer sales are in trouble cause millenials want hard drinks at the bars, wine popular outside of bars.
  4. Poor Royals. They have to play Boston while Cleveland gets to sweep without sweating. This actually has a bearing on the race. When do you get to play the Sox and when that's happening, who are the other 2 conenders playing? If Boston sweeps KC, they'll drop 3 games to Cleveland in the race. That is huge.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) The zoo is still free in Chicago. Brookfield is the good zoo and not free. It's expensive. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) I will not re-up next season. I still have 12 games left. It's jsut a waste of time now. I'll come back when they come back. Especially last night with Cubs fans. This woman about 25 was making blood curdling screams about 3 rows behind me, for about 3 innings almost non stop. A guy with his son, Blue Jays fans, asked her very politely if she could tone it down. Of course not, she paid for those seats. Finally security arrived at first saying they really couldn't do anything since the most vulgar she was was Sox suck screaming at the top of her lungs, just to piss people off. Finally they spoke to a few people who apparently matched stories and went to see her. She starts crying, but at least shuts up. I may not like people cheering for the Cubs at GRF, but this was something beyond and it wasn't only once or twice. It was for like an hour, and security wasn't going to do anything. I was miffed. I love these kind of posts and rarely ever get to read them. This is amazing. WTF with the screaming Cub fan? QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) What the White Sox have to hope for is that a young generation of fans start following them in order to gain favorable attendance in 2020 and beyond. I'd love to hear from millenials. Supposedly baseball is dead to millenials and they will not pay money to see a baseball game. It's way too boring for millenials.
  6. Folks, N. Korea sent up another missile today in the a.m. Folks, you may hate greg but you have to admit I tend to have the right take on calamity issues such as these. My prediction is we are gonna wake up one day soon to an incident so catastrophic (caused by us) that it'll be 50/50 whether there is an immediate war. Folks, Trump and the military are going to drop something on North Korea called a bomb. The question is what kind of bomb. And Korea will immediately lob a bomb at South Korea. At that point, all bets are off as we assess damage. China's take? Russia's take? North Korea's overall take? Depending on their takes will be how big the conflict/war will be. Does anybody deny this?? Korea keeps testing missiles/bombs and we have an aggressive pro military guy in the White House. Trump is gonna do something, folks. Tell me he isn't.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Rays and Royals are the teams that make the most sense to me, maybe the Pirates but not a whole lot of fits for Melky. The best case scenario (for the white sox) is someone's starting OF'er getting hurt between now and the waiver deadline. Really, the longer we have him and the more of his salary we pay the better the return will be. would the Royals give Bubba Starling for Melky and Miguel? Starling is another first round pick thus far a bust. Melky is worthless to the Sox about now since I got reamed on here for suggesting we could sign him to a veteran minimum deal next year and I was told he's an eight-figure contract guy still. Miguel is worthless to the Sox, but on a whole different plane than those stiffs Shields and Holland. I'd take Bubba for Melky and Miguel. Why not?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Yes, I just went last Saturday but have to go back to China Sunday. 3 LF bleacher tickets x 29=$87 Parking=$20 Irish nachos, three Cokes, two corn dogs=$37 Lemonade=$7? $151 total for family of three and 2 1/2 year old. Plus MLB Gameday Audio, TV and MILB subscriptions. Bought Extra Innings for family friend with Direct TV, $129.99 Happy? The main point is the attendance has been much higher than almost everyone predicted...nobody was projecting increases, not that I ever noticed. You should have told sox talk you were going. Surely somebody could have gotten you in cheaper than that? 151 bucks for a game. I guess the zoo is expensive now. That might have been similar costs. Movie woulda been much cheaper in the A/C. Don't know what the aquarium costs now or the museums.
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 04:54 AM) I liked it better when the plan was to trade our star veterans for young major-league ready or on the cusp of being major-league ready studs. Remember last year when Hahn was reportedly holding out in talks for guys like Mookie Betts, Benintendi, Carlos Correa, etc.? The consensus then was that teams would be willing to trade young players in the off season but not in the heat of a pennant race. Well, I guess teams held out on giving up higher level prospects for proven young stars like Sale, Eaton and Quintana so Hahn settled for trading for younger, rawer prospects who certainly have upside but also have a greater chance of not making it in the big leagues. Now the Sox are in a situation that they are willing to be terrible for a few years waiting for these prospects to develop. But if these guys don't develop as planned, the Sox are going to be terrible for many more years. You speak the truth.
  10. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 03:45 AM) the tank is on for sure.... However I'm not sure I've seem many teams in my life as bad as we are now.. It doesn't really matter.. but wow is this team horribad. I don't know why people say it doesn't matter. All seasons go down in the history books and if the rebuild doesn't result in excellence you better believe Jerry will remember the embarrassing records in 2017 and 2018. Better hope the lineup of Eloy in left, Robert in center, Rutherford in right; Burger at third, TA at short, Moncada at 2B and Abreu at first and Collins catcher and Avi DH to go with 5-6 outstanding arms equals 100 victory seasons.
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 04:00 AM) I remember 1970 all too well. 56 -106. I never thought I'd have to live through a Sox season that bad again. It's really disgusting to have a team this bad. Team has won one game since Q left.
  12. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:36 AM) Worst Sox team possibly worst mlb team I've ever witnessed. By season's end should be the worst team in modern Sox history, no hyperbole there. Sox lost 102 games in 1932, 101 in 1948 and 106 in 1970. Just 3 teams in Sox history have lost 100 games. Very sad.
  13. Nice home run. Hopefully he'll tag many many more. He looked OK at second base also. Not a butcher.
  14. Trump is obviously a rich, elitist jerk basically. But it's 'funny' cause I like to read the CNN headlines on my phone at lunch every day and click on the stories and it's so funny to read how the reporters refer to Trump. I'd say 90 percent of the articles on Trump are negative and/or out to get him impeached yet you can sense the frustration/desperation in the reporters who have yet to make a mark so to speak. Today I was reading an article about Trump's inappropriate speech to the Boy Scouts (I didn't listen to it but I believe everybody who said it was a horrific inappopriate speech cause hey, that does define Trump) and the writer in the third paragraph referred to him as "Trump, the former Celebrity Apprentice host." I mean, what? What's that second reference to the prez all about? At any rate, Trump has had his fun. It's either time to get serious and get him on something bad and get the impeachment going or just figure out a way to get the man to resign. He can't be having much fun. He's a dope, a dolt and despised by most folks in the USA. I mean, Donald you have jumped the shark. Move on, count your money, play some serious golf and let your VEEP do his thing. Or to the media, it's not enough just to act like you hate Donald in your articles, get him on something that will, uh, actually get him impeached and gonzo from DC.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 03:37 AM) Yep if he's struggling as much emotionally as they are implying, then they need to get him help (I mean that in the most caring way possible). It does no one any good if he's incapable of focusing on the field because of the tragedy. I agree. It's a no brainer. You have to be sensitive to what he's going through Get him some help and let him play out this wasted year in the minors near his hometown. He certainly doesn't look like a sure star anymore though he obviously has some tools. No reason to keep him in the bigs when he's in emotional pain. I agree Fathom. Good take IMO.
  16. This new look White Sox team will be good for about one win a week and that's really it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox win 12-15 games the rest of the year, maybe less than that.
  17. How can 9 innings take this long to play?? Horrific pace.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:41 AM) Shields had a good first few innings and can't even get an out in the 5th....fire someone involved with the trade I agree. He's undeniably awful. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:54 AM) Listen baseball takes as long as it takes The umps are to blame IMO. They won't call a strike a strike. They won't enforce the rules. They don't care. They just want their checks.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) Most importantly, how does this affect the Portillos bet? Call the bet off. I said I'd buy anybody on here a portillos beef sandwich when I'm home. Fun.
  20. I hope they shut him down the rest of the year. His batting average has plummetted all because of the injury. He's done nothing of late cept see the .345 drop, drop, drop. Sox brass knows what he can do. No reason to play any more this season until he's 100 PERCENT HEALTHY. Kudos to Avi for a nice season. We'll never know what kinda numbers he might have put up if healthy. I mean if the thumb gets 100 percent better, fine. If not, shut er down please.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) Sounds like Cordell still has a few more weeks on the shelf. I know and he's got the built in excuse if he stinks the rest of this year -- bad back. I liked the numbers I saw from this guy even though he's old, or at least was intrigued by the numbers so I am moderately excited for him, but it'd probably be better he not get his call up until next season when he's healthy. Let Engel continue to have his day this year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) They just gave it in the Robertson deal by bringing back Clippard. Yeah but I thought they were actually paying Clippard. They took him to balance some of the money disparity, but technically the Sox are paying him and Yankees are paying the other overpaid guys they acquired. I thought generally speaking the Sox have a policy of sorts to not pay players who play for other teams.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) True. I didn't mean it in absolutes, but moreso that I hope we're open to eating a good chunk of his salary IF it improves the return. How often do the Sox actually give salary relief? Isn't that a no no with Jerry as owner? Isn't it very rare Jerry OKs paying players who play for other teams?
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:09 AM) Just because Rick Hahn made the trade doesn't suddenly mean we all have to think it's wonderful, does it? And yet that is what is expected here. That's what drives me the most crazy and gets me in trouble the most on here. Nobody even agrees with me that the rebuild is wait and see because we are talking bout prospects here. Yes, prospects to me is as important as practice is to Iverson. You gotta wait and see, baby. If the prospects pan out and we win, all hail to Hahn. Put me in the back row of the parade line. If the prospects suck and we continue to suck, guess what, it was a 2 of a rebuild in that case. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:22 AM) A f***ing dick, like I said. I've said this before too. The constant personal attacks on Greg are uncalled for. I don't agree with him on anything, but you go after the guy constantly. Now, you've attempted to associate his agreeing with me as some sort of personal insult against me. Stop acting like a f***ing dick. Thank u. I know u don't want to be lumped in with my opinions, but thanx anyway. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:24 AM) But calling me a f***ing dick is called for? Maybe you need some time off. Cmon Tony. Dick is a common word in Chicago, especially the south side. Calling somebody a dick or a dick move is not bad. He thinks you've been rude or condesending in the thread, which just might be true. If he called you on being a dick, cmon, that's nothing. Like I said, the word dick was commonplace where I grew up in mt. greenwood.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:05 AM) No doubt the Shields trade was a fireable offense. There are no excuses for it. It showed a horrible lack of scouting acumen for two players. thats way different than this trade. Now that's the old fathom! I like it.
