The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) US analysts believe they've miniaturized their warhead and can mount it on an ICBM now https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/894954486762008576 Some good posts in this thread. Guys, nobody wants war, but it's time to play War Games over this issue. Would Russia and China agree to a meeting with Trump now in which Trump tells them that this is crisis mode? He tells them that we have been issued a direct warning by Kim that North Korea is going to punish us for the sanctions. We have taken Kim's warning seriously. We are going to tell him to dismantle all nukes now or we are prepared to drop bombs on North Korea now in an attempt to hit all their plants and kill Kim Jong Un. Yes, this means Kim probably immediately bombs South Korea and begins what could be the end of the world as we know it. Kim has specifically threatened us. He has nukes now and we do not have the technology to blow them out of the sky and protect ourselves. What are we supposed to do? What if he was threatening China like this? What would China do? Are we supposed to sit back and say, 'Oh Kim is bluffing. He's not going to attack the U.S. because he knows that will be the end, that we'll blow North Korea off the map and he will die.' I don't see how we can sit back and relax here. Kim is arguably insane and knows odds are he's not going to lead a long life if he continues to be this outspoken and aggressive. What better way to go out than fire some nukes at the U.S. and end the world as we know it? How can we sit back and do nothing? Hopefully our military people are good enough and spy well enough to know actually what's going on in N. Korea and if indeed they are planning a surprise launch of nukes at the USA. Why no emergency meeting of USA, Russia and China in which we tell those folks, look, we have to do something. Fact: We've been threatened by Kim. He flat out says he's going to gain revenge. How can we sit back and do nothing? If Kim wants to start the war that ends the world he must be stopped. It's either kill him or sit back and wait and see if he's bluffing. One thing for sure. It's going to be the worst day in American history when we wake up to the news a nuclear warhead has been spotted on the way to the USA and is going to hit land within 24 hours and there's nothing we can do about it.

Matt Davidson to DL, Avi Garcia back
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) You must have loved white sox-era Adam Dunn if you like Matt Davidson this much I tend to support guys who provide 'moments.' I'm not saying he's the greatest thing ever, but he definitely was one of the best players on the team this season. In his first full season he raked some big-time home runs. Davidson and Avi arguably have several of the top 10 highlight moments of the season. As far as 'potential' Davidson definitely showed that. I despised Dunn but he was a veteran. I realize Davidson sucks and his advanced stats suck and project him to be a flop, but I do know he's had some of the team's Top 10 moments of a dreadful season.

Matt Davidson to DL, Avi Garcia back
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Matt Davidson must be the most celebrated .2 fWAR player in Sox history. Get well soon but meh. If anything this allows the Sox to try Yolmer more at 3B down the stretch. Another guy who for whatever reason is not well liked on this board. Was on pace for 30 homer season. I know, his advanced stats suck and will always suck. If somebody else got hurt, ruining a productive season, there'd be a ton of sympathy. Have you seen some of Davidson's bombs this season? Crushed. Definite highlights in one of the worst seasons in Sox history. This all can drive a person crazy. You don't need to tell me how bad Davidson is BTW. I've read all your advanced stat posts. Yeah, he sucks. I know.

Avi Garcia to the DL
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:23 PM) +1 Wouldn't want to actually win a few more games. I'm being serious. There is zero reason to rush him back. Keep losing. We've made it this far. Might as well go for the #1 spot. Adding a #1 pick to this farm system, not to mention all the additional bonus pool money, is bonkers. The bonkers part is that the #1 overall pick will probably slide in at at #3 in the system behind Eloy and Kopech. drool. Ugh. Let Avi play in the bigs now.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
OK. Trump should be fired (oh wait we can't just fire him). Why? Because he has been caught in a huge lie. Trump before he became a presidential candidate tweeted that nobody should ever take vacation. He said if you enjoy your work and are committed to it, what's the problem? Just work. He lied. He takes many vacations. Also he specifically blasted Barack for taking time off. He said he would never take time off. Now, look. When you get caught in a red-faced flat out lie, there should be repercussions. Some media member needs to cite his tweets of the past and call him on it. Now that media member will get lambasted and perhaps kicked out of the White House but it must be done. We can't have our president flat out trolling the country which he has done. I realize politicians all lie, but rarely is it this blatant. Fire Mr. Trump. he is a liar.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) I can't believe people actually want abandon ship with Anderson in year one of our rebuild. I don't want to abandon him. But the Sox should tell him this offseason that in spite of his nice contract, his playing time will be determined by whether he becomes a better on base percentage guy and if he cleans it up defensively. The guy proved last year he has glove potential. So work on it this offseason or let the guy we just acquired start at short next year and have Anderson learn how to play baseball in the minors for the final bad year of the rebuild. He has to improve at the plate where he has shown potential (10 homers this year not bad; lotta doubles) and more importantly settle down defensively. I hate to say it, but his nice contract appears to have hurt him as well as the personal tragedy in his life. The tragedy gives him a free pass on his horrible play this season. But next season he needs to improve a lot and try to put the horrible tragedy behind him. I expect him to hit .285 with 20 home runs, 84 RBI and cut his errors in half.

Tebow
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:14 AM) This is going to sound like a troll idea, but here goes. Deep breath, you guys are going to *crush* me. What would be the downside of trading for Tim Tebow and bringing him up in late August or early September? It would (obviously) be 1000% a marketing move. Upside would be generating revenue for the team through ticket sales that could be used towards big ticket signings in the future. But on a team that's as terrible as this one, what is the downside really? Main argument is that we wouldn't want to be viewed as using celebrity power for ticket sales and a loss of respectibility. I would definitely do it. He's not stealing at bats from any prospects in the OF as long as we have room for Delmonico somewhere every day. Bill Veeck would approve. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 02:02 AM) Too disrespectful to the sport...the Sox never brought up Michael Jordan. This would be more of an Eddie Gaedel/Minoso sideshow. Didn't Minoso get a hit at age 60 or something? I don't know if it would be as bad as Eddie Gaedel.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
Probably just coincidence but the Royals haven't been playing well since the Melky came aboard. If they are committed to playing Gordon every day, the Melkster doesn't really help them much cause Bonifacio was doing a Melky-like job playing every day. I think they are going to play Gordon almost every day so that means Melky replaces Bonifacio who wasn't that bad as a regular.

Eloy Jimenez Calls His Shot
Eloy definitely passes the eye test as does Moncada and some of the pitching candidates for the rotation in the future. I'd really be surprised if Eloy flopped. I sure hope we get a catcher who passes the can't miss eye test and third baseman (I'm taking your guys word for it that Davidson is a stiff and won't cut it) and DH as well (Delmonico?)

Sox vs Sawks
QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 01:23 AM) I'm not sure ive seen a team lose this much.... like 2 wins since the all star break? I can't remember anything like this. It's not hyperbole to say the current squad the way it is composed is one of the worst in baseball history. The starting rotation is so bad it assures no more than 20 wins the second half. Rinse repeat statement on the current bullpen. You really only have a chance right now, a chance, when Rodon is pitching or if Miguel happens to have a "good Miguel" night, which have become very rare. It's like KU football right now and the last several years. If "somehow" KU happened to play a good game it still would lose because of a blocked punt or pick six or fumble returned for a TD or blocked extra point. If the Sox happen(ed) to play a good game they'd normally still lose cause of getting picked off base or an error on a simple fly ball or bunting taking them out of an inning. Between 100 and 110 losses. How many is up to conjecture.

Sox vs Sawks
Tonight's game was pretty last-placeish from a White Sox standpoint. What a truly horrendous and dull baseball game.

**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) The Big Sick is the best movie this summer. Not even close, imo. For action or comic fans, Spider-Man or Wonder Woman. I need to check out the Big Sick. What's your problem with Apes? You didn't think it was wonderful? Chicago's own Richard Roeper gave it an A-minus after giving Dawn an A and he also liked the initial Rise. I may need psychological help as I'm just a huge fan of the Ape trilogy. Just really enjoyed the three movies. Also thought Baby Driver was cool. Is the Big Sick good cause of acting? What's the hook on that movie?

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:32 PM) How sweet that they finally "forgive him" after they win. Good take. I was watching the WGN broadcast of this on its Website and they interviewed two Cub fans. The first asshole said, 'Never forget.' And he ripped Bartman and said something like he'd like to punch him. The other fan was nice. To the first fan I'd say, first of all, what do you do for a living? Bartman never let all those distractions interfere with him earning a living without having to move from Chicago. The guy obviously likes the city and he didn't run and hide, he actually pulled off continuing to lead a productive life in Chicago. I'd like to see if that asshole fan could have done the same thing. Not easy to just return to work and community life like nothing happened. And also, guess what, Mr. Fan on WGN? You would have gone after the foul ball as well, cause that's what fans do. A 10 dollar baseball or whatever its worth turns into the Crown Jewel when it is hit in a fan's direction. Fans go for foul balls. Case closed. What happened to Bartman was awful. Now, some of Bartman's statements through his lawyer have come across as moderately pompous, but still. He didn't do anything illegal. He foolishly went for a foul ball like that same fan interviewed by WGN would have done. I am kind of in favor of the Cubs doing this, just because I'm in favor of anything nice tossed Bartman's way. I respect the guy for not having to move from Chicago and not letting that incident totally ruin his life.

Site BackOnline
It is scary how addictive this site is as well as social media. It was weird to have no soxtalk. It actually was good for me to get a few days off it as I was getting meanspirited in my posting again after two weeks of niceness. It is scary though. It definitely is an addiction checking this site. Very scary.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
I got no problem with Rodon. This is actually a reason I didn't want to rebuild. With Sale, Q and Rodon and a capable pickup (not Shields or Holland) to go with a fifth starter from our system or somewhere, that woulda been a helluva rotation. We already had "on paper" a good to great bullpen with David as closer and the other guys. Too late to cry about that stuff, but yes, Rodon is good. If he stays healthy and keeps the velocity he should be an all star pitcher.

Sox v Sox
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 04:03 AM) Next year's Sox team will win this game. No it won't. Didn't you listen to the podcast on future sox? The team in 2019 may win the game, not 2018.

Sox v Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 03:51 AM) Just think of Renteria as the kindergarten teacher preparing the kids for elementary school. He's here to develop the young players, end of story. When it's time to compete, who knows if the Sox pull a Cubs and bring in the higher profile manager. Yeah I guess. The bunt thing infuriates me. As far as this game, WTF is Hawk's saying how well we played? I mean yeah Rodon was special but in the extra inning we got a guy picked off second with one out and screwed up a bunt that inning too. Shouldn't the ineptitude of that last inning erase the being happy about it being a great game? Doesn't really matter as Bummer got brutalized and that was that. Better team won of course.
-
Sox v Sox
This should be quick. I doubt Bummer can get through this half inning.
-
Sox v Sox
Do the Sox really want Renteria in charge of this team? Fundamentals are horrible and he is the manager. Just get rid of him. If he wants to live and die with the bunt, then let him expire in the baseball sense of the word.

Avi Garcia to the DL
Hand injuries IMO are ruining the seasons of my two favorite Sox: Avi and Davidson. We'll never know how much Avi's hand injury affected his at bats during his recent slide. And Davidson's time off figures to derail his charge toward 30 HRs. Also the nature of his injury will not be conducive to HRs.

ITS ALIVE!!!
Mine is still acting up a little bit. Sometimes I can get on, sometimes I can't. Tell the truth ... did anybody the last few days have the name "Greg" pop into their heads at any point. Such as: "My gawd I'm glad I get a break from Greg." Or "My gawd I miss Greg."

**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:31 PM) OK SoxTalkers, help me out. The newest Planet of the Apes movie is coming out, and I am seeing lots of positive reviews. I've never seen any of them (other than the very old school original), because I can't get my head around the idea of liking what seems just so silly. Are these actually good movies? Do I need to see earlier ones for the more recent ones to sink in? Had some time off this week and went to see the much awaited (for me) War for Planet of the Apes. As popular as this trilogy is, I can't find anybody I know who will even give the movies a chance. They think it's these corny apes talking like the movie with Charlton Heston. So wrong. I am the biggest fan of Andy S and the 3 movies. Quite frankly I think all three are great, this one was really good. Seriously if you have some time this summer watch all three in order. Since you think it seems silly you "owe" it to yourself to watch them if you are a movie goer/lover. I agree Andy Serkis (sp?) deserves an Oscar of some kind. Seriously. I'd give War an A-minus as I have a weakness in the film to point out. The other two I can't remember right now but all 3 were AMAZING moviegoing experiences IMO. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) Baby Driver was great. The editing/directing and the use of music was so impressive. It was fast paced and the action scenes were well done. I would definitely recommend it. Went to see Baby Driver this week. I refuse to read reviews before I go to movies and I certainly will not watch trailers (they give away too much) but I do check the critics' star systems and this one seemed very popular a movie with everybody giving it an A or 3 or 3.5 stars. So I went to a matinee. Got to say it's a must see summer movie. I won't list my complaint with it as I do have one complaint, but yes, I'd give this an A-minus as well. My week is running out. Any other movie I MUST see today or tomorrow? Again I don't like to go to movies that are just OK. I want good ones and wait for them.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
I enjoyed his home run. Is he a good prospect or is his defense so bad you can't even put him out there? I know he had too many errors at 3B at Charlotte.

Winners Thread: Comeback Victory over Jays
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 07:02 AM) I wasn't a fan of this rebuild but was convinced and prepared myself for losses and the number 1 pick. I can't go back now. Yes but you don't have to spoil my thread with a comment like that. Can't you stay out of a winner's thread assuming those who post in it like winning?

Winners Thread: Comeback Victory over Jays
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 05:20 AM) Except none of these guys are gonna be a part of our plans. No need for all these meaningless walkoffs. I better not say anything cept LOL. Well cept, what compelled you to enter a winners thread and say something like that? Might as well lock the innocent winners thread after that one. Please lock.
