Can you imagine if they put a shift on Pete Rose during his prime? He'd hit it where they ain't every time. Hitting it into the shift annoys me but it'll never change. At least LaRoche is gone.
-
Abreu is an easy guy to like. Nice little play there.

Let's hope Sale has "it" tonight and Sox are done with mental midget mistakes.
-
What is Eaton doing?? Hill is a hack and Eaton strays too far. Mental error one of the season.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 2, 2016 -> 03:39 AM) The VA is so beyond incompetent that it needs to be eliminated. Veterans' health care needs to go under HHS and all other veterans' services under DoD. I think our next President should be the first to attack this issue and get all veterans taken care of and pronto. But that would be an issue that actually helps the people. None of our leaders seem too interested in making all our lives actually better. Trump and Hillary both seem like they have better things to worry about, like uh, themselves and satisfying their huge egos. This problem is DISGRACEFUL. Take care of our vets for gawd-sakes!!

I thoroughly believed it too.

Notice I haven't bashed Hillary lately? I truly have figured out a way to survive this encompassing dislike of Hillary that I have. I have not read a word about her or watched her on TV, listened to her on radio for a few weeks in a row now and will continue avoiding her in such mediums. The second the TV or radio starts talking election or Hillary I turn it off. It's going to be my policy during her eight years and if Chelsea enters politics, the next 16 years. I can't take Hillary's voice screaming at me and all the things I've expressed that I dislike about her, so I have to check out politically. It's easier since the other candidates are scary bad as well except Kasisch (IMO). I am selfish enough to hope she somehow improves the country/world in her tenure and proves me wrong, but not listening to Hillary at all has helped me calm down and become a better person.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Hawk is a character. Virtually all other broadcasters in baseball are pointless, worthless, flavorless and devoid of personality. They suck. They're grown in a laboratory in Orlando. They're if khaki pants could talk. They are audience-tested by the corporation. They are not people. They are not interesting. They suck. Cubs are unwatchable. You can dislike some of what Hawk does, and I'll agree it gets way worse when the team sucks (3 straight seasons). But good god, give me anyone with a personality over the Len Kasper/Chip Careys of the world. Please save this post and post whenever somebody starts blasting Hawk. This is the greatest post in the history of Soxtalk cause it accurately depicts what "virtually all" other broadcasters truly are. I love the khaki pants line. 95 percent of all announcers as Vance said perfectly, are "not people." That Steve Physioc guy on the Royals and Steve Stewart are impossible to listen to. They say things that are not human. Rex Hudler's fake cheerleading? Puke. And Physioc has the kind of resume that could get him a job in the Sox booth. Give me Stone and Hawk or give me mute button.

You just knew when Rollins picked the Sox he'd be opening day starter unless he looked absolutely awful in spring training. Basically we traded Lexi for Rollins. They were not prepared to give up on the season so to speak by going with a Saladino at starting shortstop. I'd be shocked though if Rollins plays as much as Lexi did. He might, but I somehow doubt it.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) I work at UIC. The financial situation is a giant mess right now. Units are running on reserves. This is just irresponsible of the government. Same thing is going on in Kansas with its moronic republican governor. It's amazing how the government is letting us down and at the top we're going for the same ol same ol with Hillary set to win in a landslide.

This is a horrible column, one that shows the media's love for Hillary and desire to coronate her. He says people are so cruel and mean for saying they hate Hillary's voice and nobody attacks male candidates like that. Bulls***. Looks and clumsiness and personal demeanor has been around the last 30 years. People have pointed out superficial things about candidates forever. How do you think SNL has been on TV all these years; parodies of politicos. Anyway the Hillary lovers will like this column. I thought it was simply awful. I will support Hillary in theory if she is president but I will watch NONE of her appearances on TV, that is for sure. I will hope for the best but will not be able to stand seeing her tower over the adoring media during news conferences and addresses to the American people in her eight years. If Bernie wouldn't have admitted he was a socialist, I bet he'd have won. Sad. http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/20/opinions/why...rini/index.html

Official High School Football Thread!!!
greg775 replied to Brian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I didn't want to make a new thread for this. I just had a question or two on basketball. ... • Are you surprised Benet has advanced to the final vs. Curie? • If Benet wins is it the biggest upset in Illinois high school sports history, Benet beating a Chicago Public League team in the large class basketball final? • Has any school ever had its girls and boys teams in the state basketball finals in the same year? It's pretty difficult to make the final game in Illinois compared to most states as you gotta win more games. Where does this Benet accomplishment rank? -
Who do you believe is MOST guilty in the Laroche situation?
greg775 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To me the answer is obvious ... KENNY WILLIAMS. He has a GM, Hahn, who obviously would have handled this better. This has been handled the worst possible way. Right now, as of today, you have millionaire players blasting management. In spring training of all places, lol. FIX this, Jerry. Give Hahn the GM job and let Kenny move to LA and work for the Raiders. -
This is almost unprecedented except for the raucous Oakland A's of many years ago for players to be blasting management like this, especially in spring training. This is crazy stuff. I would expect a horrible product on the field this year unless JR fixes this. It's obvious Hahn is not the fricking GM. Kenny needs to go away and let Hahn be the fricking GM!!!!

Wow I just read some of the quotes from Sale and Robin. And Jerry. WOW, this is a big deal. Sale talking about no free agent will want to join the Sox after this and Robin saying the LaRoche kid was very mature. Kenny is a dork and wrong in this situation. The way to solve this is have Jerry reprimand Kenny and have Hahn ask LaRoche back. See what happens. This should be the end of the KW era. Sounds like he handled this very poorly, ostensibly because Adam was such a miserable hitter last season.
-
Enjoy reading how Sale allegedly screamed at Kenny in the clubhouse during the meeting about Adam's kid. Folks, I'll just say what appears to be the case from afar. Kenny Williams quite possibly is an egomaniac who thinks he is a great executive cause he led the Sox to a WS and he must think of himself as a former big league player, which he barely was. I'm glad Sale lit into a guy who again, APPEARS to be quite a cocky person.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 04:10 AM) General petreaus actively gave up confidential personnel items in the field to his mistress and received probation, no, Hillary would not be in jail for her actions if not for Gregs conspiracy There's some stuff being written that the FBI director may resign before this is all over out of protest in this matter regarding Hillary. I'm not the only one saying she's broken the law.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 04:50 AM) So you're making assumptions to call someone hypocritical? I don't think it works that way. There are a lot of assumptions being made by people in this thread, my gosh. One question that nobody but me presents ... what's so bad about having kids around a MLB clubhouse when batboys and batgirls are kids as well? This is not good. How many stories out of spring training are this negative? Bring back LaRoche and his kid. This team doesn't need this distraction in trying to get off to a good start. I'd love to see the Sox 3 games in front of the field by May 10th, not 8 out, which would be very very bad. I truly despise Adam's hitting style, his overall game and his beard, but this is just not right.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 05:54 AM) You seriously think Chelsea Clinton can win a nomination for president in 8 years? She hasn't even held political office yet and I wouldn't say she has a ton of political experience. Yes, of course I do. Chelsea is 36 years old. She has an amazing academic background. She's basically running the Clinton foundation. With mom as President for 8 years she is eminently qualified to start as an ambassador somewhere. Sure she can get involved more. Donald Trump is a serious candidate, Chelsea sure as hell will be one. She's starting to enjoy speaking for mom; she's catching the bug. She will be in her mid 40s when mom leaves office. Prime time. Read this http://www.ksl.com/?sid=38908262&nid=1...-campaign-swing QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) When exactly has the country "fallen apart" during your lifetime? I did not say it for sure would fall apart with Hillary but I have my concerns because considering all the things she's done in terms of lying and circumventing the law, yes I'm concerned we'd elect somebody who many people believe should be in prison (or a nice country club jail) with others who have committed the same type of crime. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Why dont you go ahead and tell us why the country is going to fall apart first I apologize for supposedly not responding to people all the time, but since I never get credit for any of my predictions coming true, I feel like I shouldn't respond all the time. Anyhow, I didn't say it would fall apart with 8 years of Hillary, but I believe she will have absolutely no ability to LEAD. That means getting nothing passed through Congress. The Republicans simply despise her and will never work with her. She scares me economically. She is a foreign policy disaster waiting to happen. Now I respect those of you who say the country will not fall apart. But I fear 8 more years of gridlock could indeed bring down the economy. Wall Street is very brittle and I fear this candidate cannot lead. I do believe where there's smoke there's fire and the smoke (books, articles) says she is not a kind person at all. It's not right to have somebody win who garners no real support. Even you Hillary supporters on here are very timid when it comes to telling me why she is all that. In fact you are the ones who get silent cause I feel anyway that the only reason you want Hillary is either a.) you are a democrat. b.) you feel it's her turn and she must be coronated like a queen of England or c.) she's the only candidate you can stomach at all. You reprimand me for saying she screams when indeed I still can't listen to her or watch her on TV because of her screaming. I tried to address your points. Sorry if I do not address them enough.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) Sure. I'll start with the false narrative that Trumps supporters are all redneck white trash, or whatever idea is being pushed around here. The polls show differently (hes won across all demos), so I think people just get confused on how vocal his supporters are. One of Trumps slogans mentions the silent majority supporting him. Theres Probably something to that. I can think of at least 2 other prominent Soxtalk members who I'm 95% sure support Trump but won't say it. Easy to see why. So far I've been referred to at least indirectly as "retarded", "white trash" "racist" "uneducated" "coward" etc and thats just in the last few pages alone. I don't blame them for not wanting to be on the receiving end of that. I feel I've been a good sport about it, as I cant help but laugh it off. You know how you could laugh at people who said Obama was the anti-christ and would bring us 500 years of darkness? Now it's the same from the otherside. First Trump was Hitler, then he was the KKK, then Mussollini. Just last night CNN compared him to Fidel Castro. Anyways, onto why I support him. I read The Art of the Deal way back when. Terrific, terrific book. It's funny, his whole campaign strategy is laid out in there. You'd think his opponents and detractors would simply give it a read and maybe, just maybe they can take him down. It gives great insight to who he is as a person. Reading a book is hardly the reason I support him now. Just the opposite actually for a time (particularly in 2012). I saw him as a showman who'd do anything to grab his own headlines to the detriment of the party. Now he still is that, but I've learned to appreciate it since the people whose political careers he is ruining are not good people and certainly don't have our best interests in mind. Trump really came onto the scene for me politically about 2 years ago when he came out and exposed TPP for what it was: a trade deal negotiated in secrecy that benefits absolutely no one in the US other than the top line of big businesses while doing nothing but hurting the American workforce. It sort of exposed to me the idea that America has basically become a corporate oligarchy. The politicians in charge do not care about who they are meant the serve. Instead, they're all basically puppets, with every word out of their mouths carefully manufactured by whatever money is funding them. From TPP to Obamacare, nothing is getting passed unless the powers at be basically write it themselves. So shouldn't I find it ridiculous that the solution to this problem is to elect a man worth 6 billion dollars? Of course I do. But that's where we are right now. Better him than someone who is taking millions each from Comcast, Google, Soros, Koch Bros Goldman Sachs, CBS, etc. Having self interest is better than corporate interest. There are reasons every billionaire big-wig, including his past friends, and media source hate the man more than anything. They fear that, finally, a man they can't control is about to take over. I truly believe the single most important issue of our time is the amount of money in politics and Trump can be the first step towards solving that. I'm sure you'll say, well he can't do it alone, one election wont change anything, and that's very true. It is why it's very important he destroys the Republican party en route to the White House. He's doing a great job of it already. I'm also tired of the neocon foreign policy that has dominated Washington for 16+ years now and has caused more problems than solutions. Under Clinton, I'd imagine that would continue. People like to talk about what the president can and can't do. You may hear "how much damage could Trump really do?" I of course don't think he will do much damage, but this is one area I believe he can change basically overnight. Most other things he wants to change will admittedly be tough. Few other smaller things: -Planned Parenthood: Not that my vote would ever take this into consideration, but my god, he has such a refreshing and shockingly simple "solution" to this controversy than whatever the hell other Republicans are trying to pull. -Calling for lower taxes on the middle and lower class while closing corporate loopholes. Cool with me. -Audit the fed: lol they'll never let him do this. -Basically supports a different version of Universal healthcare to replace Obamacare -Despite all the hilarious things he called Rosie O'Donnell, he has a lot better track record dealing with women's issues than anyone else on the Republican side. Theres more but this is too long anyways and you've probably quit reading by now. I will say this. Every time I hear Trump I like what he says. I have said I'm not sure I'd vote for him because of the comparisons to Hitler with his fan support out of control. His fans kinda scare me. But I do like Trump and his style.

Kids in the clubhouse and on the field? Last time I looked they were called batboys and batgirls. Youngsters. Eaton said the players supported the kid and Adam. I find it ironic as one of Adam's biggest 'haters' on the site I am thoroughly in his corner on this. It's not like players don't have their kids hanging around all the time. The hypocracy of doing this to a guy who was a complete flop is amazing. I mean, if LaRoche wasn't a complete flop and actually hit .280 with 30 homers last year and 100 RBIs, you don't think this would have gotten solved? I would be in favor of the Sox reconciling the matter NOW and inviting him back and saying the kid is welcome everywhere but the kid can only be in the actual clubhouse around the batboys. He must hang out with the other kids most of the time. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...tuesday-meeting

I'm gonna comment first, then read all your comments so to not let them influence me. Yes I despised LaRoche perhaps more than any other player in Sox history. But now, after reading Kenny Williams wouldn't let him bring his son to the clubhouse every day, I have changed my tune. I would gladly see LaRoche hit .150 with 80 percent strikeouts if it meant bringing him back to stick it up Kenny's backside so to speak. What a chicken s*** thing to do to LaRoche. Players bring their kids all the time to clubhouses. Very sad. Wonder if this will hurt the Sox in the future trying to sign guys. Again, I thought LaRoche was a pathetic hitter and I even despised his beard, but after reading this? Let him come back and bleep you, Kenny. FAMILY OVER EVERYTHING

Well, after tonight, Hillary's about wrapped it up. The nomination is hers. Congrats to her. I never thought I'd see the day two Clintons were presidents. Please please remember Greg's prediction about Chelsea in nine years. She's actually gonna be in her late 40s when mom is done with the oval office. Hillary's gonna get 8 years to put her stamp on the USA. Let's hope it's not the demise of the USA. And the difficult part for her was beating out Bernie. She's going to win almost every state against Trump. I mean, cmon, this was all a weird sideshow. I bet even Trump is happy he's assured Hillary the presidency. In the past he wasn't exactly a Hillary hater. To those of you who wanted Hillary, I'd feel better if you'd give me some reasons our country isn't going to fall apart in the next eight years, actually the next 16 with Hillary followed by Chelsea.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 04:12 AM) After thinking about this during the evening, I'm not so sure the need to add another outfielder. If LaRoche does retire, it opens the door for the Sox to put one of Avi/Melky in the DH spot and keep one of them off the field which is what many of us wanted all along. Once healthy Eaton can play RF with Jackson in CF and Melky/Avi in LF/DH. Shuck and probably Sands would be the bench outfielders. We didn't use LaRoche at first much at all anyway, so no loss. I do hope Abreu keeps developing as a fielder as well as slugger. But this really helps the team. Adam can't hit lefties anymore and because of his veteran status he'd have driven us crazy going something like five hits in every 60, 70 at bats versus lefties. Now we don't have to put up with that. Yes it can only help the team having him retire. He wasn't going to have a real bounceback year.

I won't blast him, just say good luck to him.
