9/25 vs Royals
QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:12 AM) So you're assuming they get worse than they are this year? explanation please. With due respect, I don't think everybody wants me to give my assessment on our team's talent, etc. Suffice it to say I don't like our defense and bullpen moving forward.

9/25 vs Royals
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:14 AM) Semien since the call-up has been nails. I'd venture to guess he is hitting around .280+ with an OBP around .400. What about his defense??? It's been awful. Embarrasing loss again tonight. The Sox cannot navigate innings 7-9. No way no how. Sickening baseball again tonight in the final few frames.

9/25 vs Royals
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 04:01 AM) Apparently the Sox clinch a protected pick with a loss, so at least some here (I can care less) will be happy. I'm really concerned about the future. How do you revamp a bullpen and an entire defense? 2015 looks like another 90 loss season barring an offseason miracle.

Petricka isn't as fault tonight as he got the DP grounder, but this lefty that's in now ... yuck. Can he take any longer to deliver a pitch and a meatball at that? Stiff.

9/25 vs Royals
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:44 AM) The defense and bullpen absolutely must be addressed for this franchise to go anywhere besides .500 Yes, it's kind of scary. I thought Semien would be fine at second. But with Gillaspie at third, problems at second and Abreu at first, there's big-time defensive trouble. We all know about LF and RF woes. Yikes. Sox have the weirdest team in history.

9/25 vs Royals
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:39 AM) Handing the royals a game yet again... That would be 0-6 or 0-7 for Quintana decisionwise against kc the last two years despite a strong era. He was very good. Billy Butler got lucky on the routine 6-4-3 grounder off Petricka. He'd have been gotten buried alive on Twitter again by fickle/nervous KC fans.

Man, was that Semien's throw? His defense is becoming a concern all over the diamond. Not to pile on, but Paulie in his prime easily fields that horrible throw. Abreu has a ways to go to be an efficient fielder.

9/25 vs Royals
The Royals did it, they got to the bullpen, so their fans can rest easier if they are getting antsy. Only hope for the Sox is Butler hits a rope to short for the 6-4-3 which is possible.

What do you do when a dorky fan holds up a sign like "Raising Cain" and you can't see as a result?

9/25 vs Royals
Phegley with some good at bats tonight and Semien with the triple tonight. You could make one heck of a highlight video of this Sox team. Virtually everybody has had their moments. Inconsistent is the buzzword of this team, though.

Holy cow, what a bad at bat by Abreu.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) Baez 0 for 5 with 3 k's and seven lob. At least soler looks legit...they need for Russell to be too so they can leverage him or Castro for pitching help. Damn, I didn't realize that in 199 at bats, Baez had only 32 fricking hits. That's .161 with 90 strikeouts and .223 OBP. Nine homers. I don't follow the Cubs so I was wondering how his start is going over in Chicago? Is he still considered an amazing prospect? That's a frightening start to his career. Wow.

Religion in America
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) Well, there is a fine line here. One of the tenets of Christianity is spreading the faith to others so that they can enjoy the eternal rewards. Now, there is a difference between inviting somebody to learn about the faith and passing judgment on those who decline that invitation. There is also a difference between sharing your faith with people you know personally and plastering it all over the internet. You have to use discretion. I'm not coming on here and preaching my faith to anybody. I'm not even bringing it up unless it's a topic like this that is specifically about religion. I'm more than willing to share my thoughts with people who show interest, because that is my obligation, but I'm not coming to this message board for that specific purpose. I like this post.

Religion in America
QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) You can enjoy the peace and quiet and niceness of your time at church without thinking that the rest of us are missing out on something honorable and peaceful. To say we're missing out on it implies you think we should be doing it, and that's not your call to make. See this is a problem I have with our world today. What if I'm just trying to be nice and want others on this board to experience what I do on Sundays? I'm not trying to imply anybody "should" be doing anything. I'm just saying religion is not evil and this is my example. My sister has a million "problems" and takes a zillion drugs like Zoloft or whatever and dare I suggest she give the church community a try and I get my head ripped off. I know better than to tell people what to do. I think the world has gotten rotten though because like you said, if I point out why I like church in response to a "religion is evil" post I get hammered by a post like yours. I'm not judging anybody, believe me. I stopped going to church for 10 years and returned for selfish reasons. I was at rock bottom emotionally and the return to church for me was the non-drug remedy I needed. Selfish? Who knows? If I had to get dressed up instead of wear jeans and had to go at 8 a.m. maybe all of a sudden I'd suddenly mysteriously not want to go to church. Maybe I'd enjoy yoga just as much but I do enjoy the church thing and do not believe religion is evil. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) That's nice greg, but not all people who are religious are to themselves like you and your church members. I get fire and brimstone talk from Christians; Islamists who want to gut me like a pig because I'm unbeliever; and Jews who just ignore me because I'm not Jewish therefore, irrelevant. I played a video game once where the mission was in Jerusalem, Israel. One of the people said, "Welcome to Jerusalem, the birthplace of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam." To which your character replies, "So this is where all that peace and love comes from?" QFT. Yeah, I don't understand how people get all huffy in 'fire and brimstoning' about religion. Are they really that forceful as you suggest or are you exaggerating? Zealots are not good, that is for sure.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Damn Alpha Dog. I generally like your posts and I really hope this one was done in jest. I'm black and I don't want free stuff but I would like it if Republicans could do without the whites only club. There may not be a sign that says it but if you look at a RNC, you see a sea of salt. I was at a posh wedding a couple of years ago. White rich people galore and definitely Republicans. They asked me what I did for a living and most of them practically spit out their drinks because they probably expected me to say I was unemployed or worked as a janitor. They are simply out of touch, that's why they can't win. Excellent post. I can picture some of the out of touch white Republicans I know spitting out the drink as well when you tell them what you do. The Republican party truly is a joke right now.

Ferguson Riots
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) His first move was to start putting the gun on the ground. It wasn't a reported active shooter, either. The 911 caller said he was pointing the gun around and loading it, but didn't say that he had fired any shots. So what would have happened had somebody in the store run and tackled the guy with the toy gun who hadn't done anything with it and the guy with the gun cracked his head open on a shelf and died? I'm thinking the guy who tackled him would be in jail for a long time. The cop kills the guy with the toy gun and???? Hmmmm.

AL Wildcard Race
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) Not a fan of rooting for them to lose. I want them to win at least one more to avoid losing 90+ in back to back years. If they are going to win one, win it on Saturday, as I'll be there to say goodbye to PK. Also, anytime there is a chance to give the Royals fits, I'm all for it F### the Royals. Damn 90 losses two years in a row sickens me just a decade off our WS title.

Paul Konerko Appreciation Thread
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) I am sure if you guys have seen this video, but if not, watch it. I am not ashamed to admit it brought a tear(s) to my eye. I am gonna miss you like hell, PK. I know the run is over, but I am 24 years old, so I have been watching PK for most of my life. I don't know what a SOX team without the Captain will be like. I know the time has come, but damn was it a good ride. PK Goodbye Video What a video. Thanks for posting. There are no words to describe Paul Konerko. I'm sad the run is over.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) There has been a couple of posts earlier about Reed being old. People might be a little shocked to know Petricka is actually older than Reed by a few months. Reed is still 25. Is anybody THAT high on Petricka? I mean he might be the best of our rotten bullpen and I wish him the best but is he a great prospect?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) Gregerson's going to be too expensive for another "rebuilding" year. I don't think we're ready to pay top market value for relievers like him, Miller, and some of the closers out there on the FA market. Why can't the Sox spend? That is the question. If they want to have a second team in Chicago compete they need to have a large payroll.

It's exploding in Ferguson again. People looted last night and are very upset again and have taken to the streets for protesting at night.

Religion in America
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Religion is the root of all evil. No it isn't. What is wrong with a group of people getting together at 5 p.m. every Sunday in Lawrence, Kansas, packing the pews, acting nice to each other while worshiping the entity they believe to be God? Many of you hate going to Mass/church services, refuse to go to such and like Bill Maher, do not believe in the higher power. I repeat ... what is wrong with people being polite, happy, nice to each other for an hour and 10 minutes while listening to some good music and a nice message from the priest/pastor/minister? That is not evil. I respect you all for forgoing church/Mass/religion, but I think you are missing something honorable and peaceful. You may be better than me in all regards, but I do enjoy the peace and quiet and niceness of an hour at church and sometimes more when I get in the habit of going to the 5:15 daily Mass at the local college chapel. Religion is not the root of all evil.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 04:51 AM) Tom Gorzelanny is already a reliever for the Brewers and is a free agent as is Floyd and Gregerson. Floyd would probably do anything to keep collecting an MLB check considering he's lost so much time to injuries as a starter. I like it. Some decent names to start rebuilding the putrid bullpen.

AL Wildcard Race
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 02:43 AM) Royals lost KC 86-72 (4 at Sox) Oak 86-72 (4 at Tex) Sea 83-75 (1 at Tor, 3 vs LAA) Cle 83-76 (off, 3 vs TB) Tigers AL Central Magic Number is 3. They play four in Minnesota. Royals should probably celebrate when they clinch the WC, but they'll be playing hard to host the A's. Royals hold the tie-breaker over the A's. I know teams celebrate like crazy when they win the wildcard. If I'm Ned Yost, however, I give this speech as the bubbly is being sprayed in the visitor's locker room at the Cell. "Men ... congratulations. It's been 29 f***ing years in Kansas City, but you men are in the playoffs! Congratulations. Men ... celebrate all you want but remember all we're guaranteed is one postseason game. Be proud but be smart. Men we have more work to do!!!!" That's my speech lest they get so drunk and happy they get blitzed by experienced Oakland, 11-1 in the one-game playoff.
