Sept 22 game thread vs Detroit
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 12:11 AM) Joyce is another good bounceback candidate, along with Billy Butler. Plus he fits the LH box to check off. Someone else mentioned LaRoche with the Nationals, if Zimmerman's forced to 1B. Royals fans believe Butler is finished. Should be very interesting to see if anybody gives him multi years. He's a man in a home run hitter's body who does not hit home runs. That said I wouldn't mind seeing him as the Sox DH. It'd be unwise to sign him 4-6 years however. Doing that is Dunn-like. Ouch.

Sept 22 game thread vs Detroit
I will be stunned if Petricka closes this out.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) Would be surprised if he didn't play in finale. Maybe Paulie doesn't want final game of season to take away from his teammates and thus they are doing day before? I thought Robin said he'd play him in all four vs. KC. Maybe it'll all depend on how he does Saturday night and who KC is pitching Sunday. Has Robin commented yet? If Sunday's game doesn't mean anything for KC, Saturday's game probably is the right call.

Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) To the kid getting the s*** beat out of him by a stick, it is a big f***ing deal. Some people actually feel the need to stand up and say that we don't have to allow that as a society. I really felt sad for the child and sickened after seeing those pictures. AP should not play the rest of the season IMO. I don't know about next year.

Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Oh we know. It's a stage. He's 2. It's gonna happen. But trust me, as a new parent, it's incredibly infuriating when you hear non-parents and parents of "well behaved kids" make comments about your parenting as if they would be any better. Just out of curiosity how did you deal with the 2 year old's behavior when he tried to run away and got mean? I'm not judging. I just figure there has to be some sort of response. What did you do and what do you do? It's obvious what Adrian Peterson would do, even at 2, the stuff we've been hearing about AP.

High School Football in Illinois
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) Brother Rice and SXU stadiums are very close. SXU is on campus. Greg it is just over that hill that was there when you went to Rice. Both schools have too many activities to share although Rice uses SXU for hoops sometimes. Badke's only downfall is he wants to train like a CCL Blue team (MC or Rita) and I am not certain the kids that go to Rice are looking for that. A good number of those guys are still looking to be three sport guys. Badke is doing a nice but it is a tough spot as the CCL Blue is tough. Thanks for the update. I just did a google on Steve Nye and see he was canned at York and is an assistant now at Montini. Seems like a guy with a good attitude from the article I read. It's funny. I was at the Kansas football game against Central Michigan and Martez Walker scored his first college touchdown and looked damn good in a 14-point loss to horrific Kansas. I thought I recognized the name. After the game I went down there and found him by the bus and indeed he's the Brother Rice grad. We had a nice chat and he said he enjoyed his time at Rice. He said he drove in every day from Orland Park, wherever that is. We talked some Rice Xs and Os but I won't violate his trust. Very nice kid and I think he might be a good one at Central Michigan. I hope so.

It's about that time of the year again...
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Very limited interest in the MLB Draft. Football and basketball drafts attract attention because the players most likely will make the roster the following year. I am pretty sure I heard where 1 player from the 2012 draft has made it to a ML roster other than the Sept call-ups. I have zero interest in the MLB Draft but I am outnumbered on this board. Don't care.

Semien
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) He doesn't really look good defensively anywhere he plays but that might change wih some experience. But, I still see him in a super sub roe which means he better improve with the glove Sox have too many super subs. Need some more studs.

9/20 Sox vs Rays
Viciedo just over .230. Could finish in the .220s, not good; Tyler close to falling back into the .230s as well.

The Beheading
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) It is pretty obviously mocking the idea that anyone wants to be kidnapped and beheaded, especially since I am guessing your odds are higher of winning the powerball drawing tonight than being kidnapped and beheaded while living in Kansas. I travel a lot, though.

Ventura unlikely to be fired this off season
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 03:46 AM) Sorry, unless they call for the bunt .......... Seeing this picture makes me long for the good ol days of winning White Sox baseball. I loved 2005.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 02:19 AM) Let's not all omit that Davidson is still very far from a bust. Kids still a youngin. True.

Always good to see Avi Garcia drive in the winning run. Need him to excel to be a decent team in the future.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Not without another good starting pitcher, a better defense and more offense from the corners 2b catcher and Dunn. I'll give you the point on defense. It would have reared its ugly head eventually. You do remember when the Sox were a few games over .500 it was looking like the team had enough to contend except a bullpen and defense. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 12:40 AM) Found it. Greg continues to forget Nate Jones even after claiming he knows. I'm not a big Nate Jones fan. In fact, I can guarantee you he's just another guy.

Ventura unlikely to be fired this off season
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 08:44 PM) That's great news. Give the man some talent and let's see what he can do. Like the article said, he's going to be Sox manager a long, long time. Time to upgrade the talent.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) As support, I will repost this. #1 This is the type of trade you make a GM when you are rebuilding, and you need position players. #2 Matt Davidson has not performed how the White Sox wanted him to do up to this point. If you want to give up on a 24 year old with plus power at 3B, and just look a the today of the deal, the Diamondbacks have "won" the trade to this point. #3 Just because Davidson has not performed so far, doesn't mean you wouldn't make the same sort of deal again. 3.) See I don't understand this reasoning. I understand the "logic" behind the trade. But if you are going to trade the ONLY closer on the team, make sure u have a fricking closer before doing so. Sox fans giving Hahn a pass on this deal confuse me. YES YES YES I understand the reasoning behind the trade. Relievers/closers are a dime a dozen and Reed wasn't that good anyway and he's just going to get worst. In return, Sox get an everyday third baseman for 10 years! Yes I understand the reasoning. I do not applaud the reasoning. Davidson is a huge flop right now and the Sox had a bullpen so bad it is beyond belief. Don't trade all your closer candidates. You must keep at least one who CAN CLOSE. I wish I had bosses like you guys. You guys give Hahn the benefit of the doubt cause on paper it was a good trade. Like Dick said SO WAS LOU BROCK FOR ERNIE BROGLIO. Hahn on this issue in my mind gets a big, fat grade of D. You know if we had a killer bullpen this season, the Sox might be right there with the Royals.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) One might classify a person who thinks "blowing up countries" is a good idea in general as well described by the last 5 words of that post. I'm just repeating stern after 9-11. I really don't want to be kidnapped and beheaded

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 06:10 AM) I don't think you do know because you continue to discount that fact. I like how you avoided all the stats people put up...None of which are "advanced stats". You noted his ERA, again I'll say he has the highest ERA of any closer. You also noted his conversion rate, which is in the bottom 10. Well if somebody can continue to say Davidson would have been great this season had he made the team out of spring training and his mental makeup caused his lousy minor league season, then I can say Addy Reed would have been even better in a White Sox uniform as closer this season after a pretty good year the year before. He'd have been even better than in Arizona cause of the comfort level as continuing Sox closer.

Batting Average Leaders
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:53 AM) I was thinking earlier today while I was taking a s*** about how a good way to quantify a teams pitching performance might be to compare total batters faced to total outs recorded in the full season, and then just comparing that figure to the league averages. You need to face a minimum of batters anyway, but how many extra PA are we allowing beyond what is necessary and how does this compare to the league average? Then just go down the list, each pitcher gets a ratio of batters faced to outs recorded, each number is compared to league averages, and we base our decisions (i.e. the Danks decision) on this. Rather than money. Anyway stats are great in theory. But you want as many useful ones as possible and you want them to be as unique as possible so you can find different opportunities in them and so on. The first 11 words of your post usurp the meat of your post and are kind of gross IMO.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:33 AM) Yes, they are consistent. They are consistently full of opinions based on emotion and use of archaic stats. This post is an example of using outdated stats. People gave up on trying to explain advanced stats to you. Then why were the stats used in the article? The reporter used them with confidence. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:38 AM) Top 100 prospect for a meh closer is always a good trade in theory. But Zona willingly made the trade. Hmmm... do they know more than Buddy Bell? QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:48 AM) D- Seriously? You like this trade? This is a results business. We gave up a strong closer candidate (he figured to be mighty comfortable in the role again this year on the South Side) for a guy who does not look like a prime prospect anymore. Maybe he'll be great. Did the Dbacks figure he was a strong candidate to be a bust? I happen to think a GM, if he is doing his job, at least has a closer in waiting if he trades a decent closer. I know, I know ... Nate Jones.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) It got your attention. It's working perfectly. They've turned themselves into the hot rebel group and they're getting attention, assistance, and money worldwide. Saudi Arabia does it and no one cares. These guys are making a show for the cameras to get you riled up, because if you're angry at them, then anyone who is angry at the US starts supporting them. True, but geezus. This last story really annoys me. So we can be mosey-ing about in our own country and perhaps in future years some ISIS bastards in the USA or when we are visiting Europe is going to kidnap us and we have to worry about having no head in the foreseeable future. Just great. Or they'll hijack airplanes and start systematically beheading passengers. This sounds wild but I agree with Howard Stern after 9/11. It may be time to just start blowing up countries that harbor these types of people. I mean how else is civilization going to continue on with these f***ing animals roaming our world???

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
Okay anybody who has seen any of my posts know I feel the loss of Reed had a horrific effect on this team. He couldn't close so we trotted out a number of closers who basically all failed. Some had a run of a couple good saves, then failed. Davidson at this point is a prospect who appears to be a non-prospect. He has his work cut out. I give the trade a D to D- on Hahn's resume. Why? This line from the above-mentioned article ... " As of today, 9/18/14, Reed holds a 4.13 ERA with 31 saves and an 86.1% save conversion rate." That, folks is a damn fine conversion rate and damn fine number of saves. I'd have preferred him closing for the Sox and finding two decent set up men from the number of lousy pitchers in our organization. Go ahead and fry me now. p.s. You all may hate me and/or my posts but at least you must admit I am consistent in my opinions.

Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) Ok, but is this any better? I think anytime you don't actually hit or whip or spank somebody, yeah it's better. Although it did make me want to leave home and never come back which basically I did starting in college up to now.

Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) The whole "I was hit or spanked as a child and I turned out fine" crowd just needs to go away. I'm sure as kids they also didn't sit in safe infant car seats, but they turned out fine, why should kids use them now? I think most reasonable people would agree spanking is wrong. My dad scared the crap out of me and my siblings and never hit us. Yet we were scared to death of him and doing anything to piss him off. Somehow he got that across without touching us.
