QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 04:32 AM) Royals have forgotten how to play defense (except last night) over the last week. Hosmer with 10 errors and missing quite a bit of the season, when he won the GG? Moustakas and Escobar are also players who are close to Gold Glove caliber. Can't give teams like the Red Sox, even without Pedroia, 2 runs when your offense is struggling to score. Should be interesting. This Butler thing can't be good for in-team morale. He needs to play. It's not like he is putting up totally anemic numbers. Not great, but he was hot during their hot streak. Something tells me KC fans are going to be disappointed. They'll lose the division to Detroit by a game or two and lose the wildcard by a game or two. Cleveland isn't out of it yet, either. Can't see Ned coming back if KC doesn't win the division. It'll be another rebuilding year next year without Shields and Butler. Guthrie and Vargas can go south at any time. Poor KC.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:59 AM) We'll probably end up with Raul Ibanez or Carlos Pena. Yikes. Somebody will probably give Butler 10 million a year which would be crazy. It is interesting though. If it's 7 mill a year, three years; 21 mill total, would the Sox take the risk at DH? You'd have a heart of the order lineup of Eaton, Lexi, A. Garcia, Abreu and Butler as your first five hitters in the order. There are probably worse five-somes in baseball for sure.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 05:58 AM) Shields really needs to earn him "Big Game" moniker tomorrow against Porcello to stop the bleeding. He definitely showed up against the Yankees in his last start. Yeah. I laughed at the many talk shows out here saying Shields doesn't deserve to pitch the "big games" that may await the Royals still the rest of the season/postseason. They want Duffy (before injury) and Vargas. How stupid. After the Tigers game I'm sure the fans are back heavy on the Shields is god bandwagon, however. It's interesting how Butler has been benched of late. It's obvious he'll be on another team next year. Would the Sox want him as another base-clogger for 7 million a year, three years? Granted he may be finished. It'd be a risk but you could probably get him cheap. He's definitely a bounceback candidate with a new organization, unless like I said, he may be finished at a relatively young baseball age. Sox do not have a DH candidate right now with any pop. Of course Butler is more a doubles guy as he's never elevated consistently.

Will Dunn get a job with the organization after he retires?

QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 11:57 PM) What do you think? I think the Sox owe it to him. He has been pure class during his tenure with the Sox. Liked by everybody, and just a great guy. Reminds me of Thome. I hope Jerry gives him a job in the future, if he wants one. Only in sports can you say the Sox "owe" Adam Dunn something more than the zillion dollars the team has already paid him. I know you are probably kidding, but I took the bait. Dunn has made so much money he'd be crazy to want any job with the White Sox, anyway. Why should he work any more? If he gets bored he could do stuff for charity or something like that. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) How can they NOT? It's a business. They can be pretty profitable again with a $65-75 million payroll and finish 5-10 games under .500, or they can start going for it again like they did in 2011 with the Dunn acquisition. If they don't, the White Sox are in danger of becoming completely irrelevant to all but a smattering of dwindling die-hards. Other than Sale and Abreu, there's just no reason for anyone in the national media to follow this team or manager. I would be perfectly happy to go up to $90 million over 4 years for Shields. That still might not get it done. He might get $100+ now. I'd at least try. If you put our payroll somewhere in the mid 50's (with Flowers, Nate Jones, Viciedo probably)....then that bumps it up to the high 70's. We started this year around $91 million. That would leave money for one "second tier hitter" for DH (like an Adam Lind) and we'd have to be incredibly strategic and prescient about which reliever/s we brought in for another $5-7.5 million...in that Downs/Belisario second tier again. Maybe hoping for a bounceback from Jim Johnson, not sure....Frieri, someone who still has the stuff but mentally struggling. This is your best post in recent memory IMO. Sox must be relevant again. It's like they have become really really irrelevant. Like you said, this is a business more than a sport and Sox stock is down with the exception of Sale, Abreu and maybe A. Garcia.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 12:41 PM) It's just that lately you seem to make a new thread everyday screaming about how bad our country is, and it's quite tiresome. You over re-act to almost everything in the news today and when somebody tries to have an intelligent informing conversation with you, it always falls on your deaf ears. My bad. But this stuff is on the front page of cnn It's not like I find it on obscurenews.com

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) 1) No 2) For someone that talks about the good ol' days a lot, there sure were a lot of fights in your schools. Shameful. 3) People have more common sense than to fight about Sox vs. Cubs in school or, you know, anywhere. Otherwise we get cases like the now crippled Giants fan who was assaulted at a Dodgers game. 4) When both teams are crap, the arguments tended to swing more towards "Well, we're less awful than you." 1.) No? Please expound. 2.) South side of Chicago? In Mt. Greenwood? Of course there were fights. All the time. And if you got bloodied parents didn't go crying to the other person's parents. 3.) Little kids can't do that kind of damage one-on-one. Generally speaking anyway. Once somebody gets in a punch that hurts the fight ends pretty quickly. 4.) I guess. -
Awesome victory tonight. Finally a clutch hit (by A. Garcia). Hopefully that will do wonders for Garcia and get him in the "star mode" for next year. Sox truly need him to be well above average going forward. With Viciedo a bust, but likely LF next year, it'd be nice to have Eaton and A. Garcia all-star caliber or just below all-star caliber which many think they are capable of. Loved seeing him get that game-winning hit! Great starting pitching, too. And nice to see the closer whiff Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) I am amazed by the number of people that think that taking nude photos of themselves is something that needs to be done. Some guy on Catfish last night confessed he'd sent tons of nudes to a stranger he met on the Internet but never spoke to in person or on the phone. Of course she turned out to be lying about everything. She sent him nudes but of some model in Playboy. In real life the Catfish liar weighed about 300 pounds.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) I'm amazed by people who let themselves get so emotionally affected by every piece of bad news that they have to start threads on baseball message boards. This is a forum where people comment and talk about stuff. Are you serious? You can't shoot the messenger. All of this stuff is appalling and sickening and IMO worthy of social commentary.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) Darned Cubs!!! If they wouldn't keep losing more than us, we'd be at 8. Interesting how in 2013 and 2014 we're almost parallel records. Back in the day there were fights at our grade school and high school over Cubs record vs. Sox record. I can imagine how the teachers are so happy nowadays there are no fights. At the grade school recess or gym class the Cub fan says, "Ha ha. The Cubs have a better record than your Sox." And the little Sox fan instead of tackling him counters with ... "who gives a s***? I want to lose We get the better draft pick! Ha ha. We win. We get the better draft pick." -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) I strongly disagree that Danks is better than Jackson. Jackson is another guy you don't want on your team. Now as a one-inning bullpen guy? Sure. I'd take him in a second over hacks like Bella.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 12:41 PM) Fisk is now 4 Great name for a dog. Is that a beagle? Does he/she howl a lot? Are beagles as tough a dog to own as they say?

Royals getting owned by Detroit again. Detroit has won 11 of 15 this year vs. KC. Royals are trying to ride their excellent defense and pitching into the playoffs. Thing is, KC's offense is so putrid (nobody walks; nobody ever homers) it is putting the postseason in jeopardy. Can defense and pitching win out as the cliche says? Or do you need some hitting too?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) This is why Wilkins should have been up on August 1. He has taken months to get comfortable at every level he's stopped at. That should have been expected again at this level. Maybe 1 extra month wouldn't have been enough, but it's a helluva lot better than not giving it to him. Good point. Now in this small sample size, he's looked lousy.

And that a Tyler Flowers walkoff White Sox Winner!!!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:59 PM) Interesting that Hawk said if you want to win you have to spend money the other day. I thought we were going to be more like the Yankees after we won it all in 05. I was hoping we'd always re-stock with GOOD free agents. This other way isn't going to get the Sox back into the postseason anytime soon. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 03:52 AM) I know he made a boneheaded mistake today, but Sanchez hasn't been that bad this year...And he just turned 22 a few months ago. Even if Micah isn't ready he seems like a capable stop gap. And Semien, though I'm not as high on him as others here, fits that same bill as well. Hope you are right. I'm just thinking Semien has looked pretty pedestrian. Hopefully Sanchez is good. I want players who excel and Hawk got me excited about Micah.
-
I hope Micah is as good as Hawk says. Is he? He'll be ready next April, right??

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 04:12 AM) The September call-ups have been awful. Goes to show you how bad the talent in the high minors is/was for the Sox Very sad how badly they've looked. Looks like Micah gets second base and Sox must keep Lexi for some time to come, which is fine. Lexi is a good player. Gillaspie gets third again next year, which is OK. He deserves another full season after hitting .300. Semien certainly has done nothing; Sanchez OK but blah and Taylor, yuck.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) It's hard to believe that people would do something so cruel, particularly to such an undeserving victim. With that said, I'm pretty uncomfortable with some of the vigilante justice that folks appear to be asking for. There are some sickening cases of bullying out there and this is one of them. Re. the vigilante justice ... That's why I said the families of the little brats who did this will have to be moving and changing schools, etc. In this day and age of social media and TMZ, everybody's gonna want those kids who did this to suffer big time. Those kids publicly should be protected by being juveniles though. Life is gonna be hell on their parents who will have to face the media/public on this one.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) Uh, no. Pity the real victim. For sure. I thought I expressed outrage for the victim, too. If not, sorry.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 03:45 AM) Most mental and physical errors I have ever seen in a Sox game. Absolutely unacceptable I'm not calling for Robin's head, but his managerial resume looks as bad as his Sox team's resume in his tenure.
-
QUOTE (1dog @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 03:42 AM) Who can watch this s***? All of the young guys play like De Aza and Viciedo combined. I'm a glutton for punishment. I really don't see how we're going to be any good next year. Too many holes. Yeah, there are a few of us diehards who watch the Sox still. There are not many of us out there. This team is pathetic. Like you said, so many holes to fill.
-
Sox playing like clowns. Dumb to get thrown out at third there. Kinda embarrassing.

So the police have identified some kids who dumped urine and spit on an unsuspecting kid all part of the ice bucket challenge. Celebrities are out wanting proverbial blood so to speak offering rewards to find out who did the crime. Police are going to press charges of assault. Pity the perpetrators and their parents cause they are gonna be forced out of this school and town over yet another act of stupidity in our world. Would like to get into the minds of these dumbass kids who thought it was a good idea to dump crap on an autistic person and put it on the Internet. Really smart. Really a nice thing to do to a fellow human being. What a cruel world. I feel sorry for the autistic kid. How terrible to be the brunt of bullying. I wonder how a modern parent in this day and age of Johnny can do no Wrong, disciplines their little darlings who did something like this. http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/09/us/horrific-....html?hpt=hp_t2
