QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) Yes, but 150 pitches thrown used to be not a big deal. Probably just about every starter up until the 5 and dive mentality hit, had done it several times. Who would have ever thought pitch counts on scoreboards would become a must have addition to a ballpark? Now it's called abuse. I don't think humans are made weaker, but collectively, you have more guys throwing 90+ these days, and certain pitches do put more strain on pitchers. Sliders weren't originally meant to do what pitchers want them to do today. The top power guys didn't throw sliders or cutters. TB won't even let their minor leaguers throw cutters IIRC. And speed guns everywhere I am sure makes some pitchers overthrow. I was also reading that many kids are becoming more sport specific these days, and some think that may help cause the rash of injuries. Back many years ago, kids played baseball during the summer, football during the fall and basketball or hockey during the winter, developing different muscles. Yep. There is way too much specialization. Aau basketball. Traveling teams in baseball. Kids can't be kids and play many sports

Jim Maloney threw 160 or more pitches in his no hitter. Before pitch counts became a fad that was not unusual

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 02:12 AM) Hey greg, who was Dunn's manager when he put up the worst season in the history of baseball??? (hint: it wasn't Robin Ventura) Ozzie handled Dunn's lousy year pretty well. If Dunn somehow has an amazing September and DeAza and Gordo get good, then we have to question either the coaching in Chicago or the water or something. They are all on WS contenders so it should be interesting to see if they continue to stink or get good suddenly.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 12:32 AM) Yep I watched part of the game the fans in Oakland were cheering their ass off for the big guy. Good for Adam glad he's gone as always though. I don't mind the A's they are a scrappy bunch that spends next to nothing on payroll so I root for them against teams like the Angels or Tigers or Yankees. Yep, cause he's the new guy. New blood. Second team quarterback syndrome. If he keeps hitting home runs, he'll be a fricking hero there for sure. I have nothing against the A's, so it'd be neat if Dunn defines their postseason run. I still say Robin will have some explaining to do if Dunn finds the fountain of youth in Oakland after reeking on the South Side.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) I'd much rather these record 20 HR in September go in pursuance of a World Series with Oakland. Me too but it will be kind of embarrassing if he bashes 15-20 home runs in September and during the postseason. If that happens, maybe Robin should be canned, not getting the best out of some of these guys like DeAza, Beckham, Dunn.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) No more than being tired of being outcheered/outattended in our home ballpark by Orioles, Blue Jays and especially Tigers' fans. Couldn't believe how loud the Detroit fans were on the radio. It felt like a Tigers' home game, honestly. What next? Indians' fans outcheering us down the stretch? It's not even a matter of "hating" Dunn. It's the fact that standards for who is deemed worthy of praise have fallen so far, it's almost like a political correctness thing. If we want to actually celebrate performance, it should be those guys like Conor, Putnam, Noesi, Nieto, Eaton and Abreu who have surpassed expectations. The reality is that receiving a huge contract simply to hit necessitated a certain expected level of performance. What kind of fans would we be if we were simply contented with "the 'ol college try" and "wait until next year," etc.? Let's face it. Our "fans" are loyal but there aren't many of them. That's the way it is. And they don't make much if any noise at games if you've watched them or listened to them. That'll change if they ever get in the World Series again. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) HR in first at bat He'll be the story in all of baseball today. He'll probably hit 20 home runs in September and sign with somebody for 10 million a year next year and excel. That's how it goes for the White Sox since the world championship.

Do the Sox have any plans to honor Adam Dunn next week?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) I kinda hope he goes yard, just so the foam comes back one more time. If he plays all 4 games or 3 of four, you can bet he will go yard more than once. It's the Sox hex. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) Who made it personal other than TUC? Nobody I can tell. Everybody that dislikes him just points out he was a horrific baseball player on the South Side and thrilled he's gone. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 05:40 AM) How can they move a Royals' home game to CLE for the bottom of the 10th? That's very unusual. Great point, Caufield. I would think if Cleveland had an off day Monday they'd have stayed in KC and played it before the KC-Texas game. No such luck though for KC.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 05:51 AM) The personal disdain people have for players like Dunn worries and disappoints me I actually thought it was great he pitched for the Sox. That was an awesome inning and fun moment. Nothing against the guy, he just defined the team's losing years. Considering everything, for the money, he was one of the worst players in Sox history. Kudos to him for getting that contract, though. I wish him well with the money. I don't cry over Jerry's wallet, that is for sure. I am glad Dunn is a mega-millionaire and will live the next 40 years in total luxury. Everybody says he's a great great guy and I believe that and I'm happy for him. I just hated his performance. he was a miserable hitter with some good moments. -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 02:53 AM) I was a big proponent of the Adam Dunn signing. Overall, his time here was underwhelming, largely exacerbated by his 2011 season. It put a bad taste in the mouths of a large portion of the fanbase, so while strikeouts and all the good stuff that comes with a player like Dunn were expected, I think they were harder to tolerate for many because of that season's stink. If you're drinking all night at a party, it's expected that you're going to end up sloshed towards the end of the festivities and likely wake up hungover. If you're drinking all night at a party and you also happen to be on prescription medication, you're going to end up sloshed a lot earlier and likely wake up in much worse shape. Dunn '11 is the prescription medication. That said, this guy wasn't too far off. Without hindsight, I'd still want the Sox to go after him when he hit free agency following the 2010 season. Some fans didn't like the trade. I applaud them for knowing. I remember being excited because everybody else was so excited. I didn't watch much NL ball at all and trusted everybody else. But I remember a few being against it. I remember my dad didn't want him and was upset from the start. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 02:42 AM) Yea exactly he has no value. He's a .5 WAR (at bets) player that will cost around 3-5 million. Even if the Sox bring him back it will be as a platoon option and that is absolute best case. Would not be surprised to see him traded for a similar type ("your junk for my junk" or just non tendered. Yeah, let somebody else try to fix his offensive game. Like Beckham and Dunn, he's outlived his Sox days.
-
Is that true? Geezus. I'd fine the player 5,000 dollars if he didn't hit it on the ground toward left or bunt it that way. there's no reason in the world to hit into that shift. What has happened to sports? With absolutely no fielders on the left side, you MUST plop it down toward left.

Billy Butler is getting killed by Royals fans on twitter. Funny, I thought that little dribbler was going to get ruled a hit. Guess it was an egregious error. The fans are attacking Butler cause things went south after the error. Of course some of the same fans have been screaming Yost better dare not use Hosmer at first once he returns and not mess with Butler. LOL. Like Roy Williams once said when he was Kansas coach, "The only way to shut everybody up is to win." A variation of Al Davis' Just.Win.Baby.

He must go ignored. They can't do a video montage. It would be an insult to the franchise, even to Dunn. s***, he knows he sucked as a member of the White Sox. His gift is what they paid him. If he gives 10 million of it back, then Jerry could give him a video montage. Just let him bat and give him a golf clap. The ones who booed him a lot ... they should boo him some more. He was a terrible hitter. Who cares if he was a nice guy? Beckham was a nice guy too. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) It might even be statistically close, but Navarro is the tie breaker himself. Bobby Bonds was an awful addition. Dan Pasqua was a joke. Claudell Washington was no good. Navarro like you said. Some of the Veeck acquisitions didn't work out. But Adam Dunn certainly is the worst ever because of that first season. Worst season in big league history, right? Nobody can hit .150. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Walking back to the dugout after fanning is not loafing, except in Little League. And speaking of Little League the Sox honored the JRW team last night. They gave them all White Sox backpacks with school supplies, a White Sox jersey with their number on it signed by the entire team, and introduced them one by one having them run around the bases with the White Sox lined up on the 3rd base line giving them all high fives. That had to be awesome for an 11-13 year old kid. That is pure class. Seriously. Not to blast the Cubs, but did they think of this? They seem too cheap, considering the tarp fiasco in not wanting to pay overtime. As far as Dunn, he hit some bombs that mattered. He struck out a ton. He annoyed me so much by not hitting more home runs to left center and center. He's so big all he has to do is elevate and make contact going that way. The reason I hate Dunn is when he bats all I see is last place. His tenure was defined by losing and he was a horrible hitter. I'm sure he has about 6 home runs left in him if he plays in that 4 game series in the Cell everybody's talking about. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) I hope it's the A's. They come to Chicago for four next week. Awkward.... He better not get "hot" and bash a ton of home runs vs. the Sox. That would be icing on the cake. Murphy's Law says he'll get on the best tear of his career for that series. So glad he's finally gone. Just another player who hits into the shift way too often, when he hits the ball.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) Pennsylvania’s GOP governor will expand Medicaid to 300,000 poor people Meanwhile, Kansas' governor will probably announce he's making all poor people get up at 6 a.m. and do 100 pushups and sprints. Today this guy gave a cushy job to one of his cronies. The question is ... will Republican heavy Kansas actually vote out Brownback? Believe it or not, he still might win re-election. I wonder if Kansas now is officially the worst state in the Union.

Yost is getting nailed by Royals fans on twitter, etc., for batting Nix in 2 crucial situations in the loss, instead of PH Willingham. I'd blame Dayton Moore AND Yost. Yes it was ridiculous to bat Nix, who is horrific, but why in the hell did Moore acquire Jayson Nix? I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland sneaks in and wins the division. They have the best manager of the 3 and just as good talent as KC at least.
