It's about that time of the year again...
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 03:04 AM) Sox need to be 2 games worse than the Twins and Red Sox, 3 games worse than the Astros the final 22 games to have a higher pick. Could be a good night for the Sox. Red Sox just won. I feel like it's a given the Sox will finish behind Minnie. Just seems like it's meant to be right now.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 04:18 AM) He's 28 years old, so he's just right-handed competition for Danks. Used to be a pretty decent prospect for Oakland back in the day. Ugh. He seems like that guy who played right for the Royals some last year, Justin Maxwell.

Robin isn't the greatest but at this point deserves a chance to manage a team with a roster projected to finish first, not last. If he's willing to keep managing the Sox, might as well let him for a while.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 03:22 AM) Michael Taylor is horrible on defense. The ball jumps off of his bat, but he doesn't make a lot of contact due to mediocre pitch recognition. With me being too lazy to look it up, is he a top prospect or just another guy? First or second rounder? Think he has any hope to stick next year?

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 03:19 AM) If you bring in beliosukio u deserve too lose the game its time for robin to resign. Maybe he's trying to make a point, that Bella can't be on the team next year. Tonight should be the final nail for Bella.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) I made some in the winner thread yesterday, but we may as well keep a running track of it with all the youngsters up. -I'm much happier with Semien this go around. He looks more confident at the plate and he's putting better swings on the ball. -Carlos Sanchez looks like he should be able to stick at 2B. Confident, quick, short swing and he barrels the ball pretty well too. Liike I said yesterday, I can see him developing a bit of power down the line too, though I don't see him ever hitting more than 15 in a season. Also, I think Viciedo showed again last night why he's going to get another chance with the Sox. I know we're all tired of him by this point, and it's September and all that, but guys like this that show flashes now and then can sometimes make one adjustment and everything clicks. It's hard to look at Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in Toronto and say "See?!" but guys like that and Beltre and JD Martinez are exactly what can happen with Viciedo. 1.) Semien: I've always liked him. Can he play MLB for 10 years or not? 2.) I was high on Sanchez til fathom brought me down to earth. He does not think he's a starter in MLB and does not think he has as live a bat as I thought I've been seeing. 3.) Viciedo has hit so many tape measure bombs he makes me think he could be a valuable piece with Abreu and A. Garcia and V. Martinez. He's such a headcase however at the plate. If the Sox were smart they'd make him play winter ball and pay Big Hurt big bucks to go with him for 3 weeks. Have Big Hurt discuss every at bat with him and every f***ing pitch. Viciedo is not valuable with his current mindset at the plate. I'm convinced he has talent. I'd also make Flowers play winter ball and do the same thing with him, just not make him catch. If they have a DH let him DH there. If not, stick him at first base. Both hitters need mental help, not physical. That mental help can come from Big Hurt if they pay the price. Money talks. Pay Hurt 500,000 bucks to go work with those two!

Gillaspie vs. Flowers
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) Gillaspie >>>>>>> Davidson Hindsight might be a b****, but guys that hit below .200 in AAA would have got destroyed in the majors. There really is no argument to be had here. Amen. You said succinctly what I wanted to say. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) Anyone that thinks a kid that his .199 in AAA would have magically been a 250 hitter in MLB is f***ing delusional. Furthermore, if the kid is that upset about the demotion how in the hell is he going to have the mental toughness to perservere through his first 2 for 50 streak? Some of you guys are nuts, seriously. Amen again. Although to play devil's advocate to your second sentence. The people that think he was upset about the demotion and it affected his performance (all season) believe he wouldn't have had to have had the mental toughness to persevere through a 2-for-25 stretch because he'd have raked all season. Don't forget, he still has the unknown (second team quarterback) syndrome on his side with many fans.

IN ban on gay marriage thrown out by US fed court
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 12:39 AM) Not to run too far off politics into religion, but I would also point out that churches that take strong political stances against gay marriage are turning people off to religion big time when their mission is supposed to be the exact opposite. I'm not saying that churches should change their religious position on gay marriage, but changing their political position, or at the very least not taking a political position figures to benefit your church more in the long run than yelling and screaming about the issue, to the extent that you don't even care whatever terrible political positions a candidate might take so long as they are against gay marriage. Our church makes it clear (Catholic) that all people are welcome and welcome to be full members, even though being gay I think is classified as a sin in the Catholic rulebook. Of course, heterosexual sex outside of marriage is also a sin in the Catholic rulebook. So is using a condom in heterosex if u are married for gosh sakes. I think some religions if you say you are gay you are not welcome. I will say this, in 2014, there are things hypocritical about my place in my Catholic religion, sure there are. Let's look at sex. s***, it's a sin to masturbate and didn't some survey say 90 percent of all people do so? It's a sin to cuss and I cuss a lot (bad habit). The reason I am in a church is because I really truly enjoy the camaraderie of the people. For one hour a week I get to hear great music and visit with some very nice people and turn off my cell phone. I get to hear an interesting homily from the priest ofttimes with helpful advice for my life. I get to praise a God I believe in and thank him for the good things in my life. I get to reflect on family members and others I know who have died. Yes I can do that at home, but how many people take time to do that? Also, my church allows shorts and jeans and T-shirts and I don't have to get dressed up or any of that bulls***. On the flip side, you can call me a hypocrite because I sin and I also do not believe in some things we Catholics are supposed to believe in. Well ... those are the downsides. The upside is I get to be with nice people, pray to a God I believe in ... and if I ever get better hours at work I can volunteer to do some nice things for people, like visit the homebound with Communion, etc. Our church, however, welcomes gays like it welcomes anybody. Now would our priests be in trouble if the Vatican found out? I guess. But they take that chance.

Gillaspie vs. Flowers
QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Davidson has zero track record of not being able to hit AAA pitching until this year. He also hit when he was called up for Arizona last year. Please nostradamus, explain to me how you know whether or not Davidson would be having the same results at the MLB level as he is right now in AAA. You cant, because we don't know that. Thus, you make no sense. What I do know is, based off of his call up last year and how he played during spring training, Davidson should have been playing 3B for the Sox. The Sox, who were entering a throw away year that they knew was going to be for rebuilding, and instead tossed a .240 hitter out there at 3B instead of a prospect who showed nothing that would make you believe he wasn't ready. Also, im not sending a letter to the White Sox organization requesting Gillaspie not be starting on this team next year. That's my personal opinion I am sharing with the board, what the f*** are you talking about bro? Cmon, Davidson is an easy out, an easy whiff candidate. If he's doing this poorly in the minors, you can bet these big leaguers would set him up perfectly, drop an offspeed pitch and whiff. I'm basing this on his minor league numbers. We'll see if he improves.
-
Gillaspie vs. Flowers
The Davidson issue is kind of strange. I remember reading one post saying he should have been the starter and they are blaming his whole lousy minor league season on the disappointment he felt in not making the team. That's assuming way too much and kind of a crazy leap. That's taking the backup quarterback popularity thing to a wild level. Just because Davidson is unknown doesn't mean he's good. Just cause the Sox traded for him doesn't mean he'll make it.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) I don't think that's what he's saying at all. He's merely pointing out that the people in Chicago getting slaughtered are BORN into a horrific situation, while the people going overseas are CHOOSING to put themselves into a dangerous situation (ultimately for money for fame), ergo he feels more sorry for the people born into a bad situation (NOT of their own choosing), versus the people that CHOSE to perform a very dangerous job in a war torn country. I don't think he's saying ISIS are great people, nor do I think he's saying anyone deserves to have their heads cut off, for any reason. OK. That makes sense. I just thought he was being a little flippant about the people who got beheaded but I could be very mistaken.

Washington Football Franchise team name discussion
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Snyder should just make an offer for all the people who want the name changed. Come up with a billion dollars and he'll change the name. After taking out enough to cover all the things that will need to be changed (uniforms, signs, etc.) the rest gets donated to American Indian causes. Then people can put their money where the fauxrage is. Or not. Not a bad take. Except he hadn't been playing the "cost" card on this issue until recently. That's an interesting idea, though. QUOTE (juddling @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) I get a chuckle out of some of these sports announcers and writers who are now deciding to declare there distaste for the name Redskins. so....last year and the year before you had no problem using the "racist" name in your broadcasts/articles but NOW you've all seen the light or decided to come out of the shadows with your outrage?? GMAFB Again, a pretty good take. I'm amazed in this day and age of political correctness the league allows the name "Redskins" to continue on, though. It's totally offensive (IMO).

Gillaspie vs. Flowers
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) I'm not as high on Gillaspie as others are but he's certainly earned a spot on next years squad to see which version of him is legit. He's only 27. He's a former first round draft pick. So yes, this post is spot on. His "conventional" stat line, the non advanced stats indicate a decent prospect. He's hitting .295 with six homers and 49 RBI. His on base is .347. Playing in the Cell, the power numbers are pedestrian obviously, but baseball power numbers are down, anyway. His defense is inconsistent. He's made some amazing plays over there but has looked like a college player on too many occasions on grounders he's booted. I'd say he definitely deserves another year if he finishes this year hitting a shade under .300. But signs are he's another platoon candidate. I guess that wouldn't be all bad except for the defense issue. I am of the belief the Sox are in trouble if they keep fielding lousy defensive teams. Hahn certainly has a lot of work to do to get this team competitive again. Flowers is getting to the point where like the one poster pointed out, he's actually not abysmal for a modern day catcher. You can win with a Tyler Flowers ... as long as he doesn't finish up with one of those 1-for-36 stretches.

9/3 at Twins
QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 04:35 AM) That's the thing though. I can excuse him for doing it last night. He gave it a go but his allergies got the best of him so he left early. That's fine. But if he was feeling the same way today than they should have had Wimpy or someone on standby. Like you said, Hawk shouldn't have showed up to begin with. But he did. And he left early. Again. I like Steve Stone and think he does a good job for the most part (especially having to work with Hawk), but he's pretty brutal solo and Hawk left him holding the bag two nights and a row. Geez, no offense but people love to complain about anything. The guy is sick and couldn't answer the bell. Blame the network. They could have found somebody in the press box to come be a guest analyst if they wished. Geez.

It's about that time of the year again...
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 03:56 AM) Going to leapfrog the Cubs tonight. Also, closing the gap on the Astros. Ugh. Have the Cubs passed the Sox as best team in the city? Yikes.

Oh well. Sox stunk tonight. I wonder when the Sox will be a contender again. I miss those days when the Sox were right there in the standings contending for postseason.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Greg once again talking out of his ass. Do you even bother to fact check anything you say? Konerko vs KC: .263/.349/.459/.808 Konerko vs every other team: .282/.355/.492/.847 Sure an .808 OPS is good, but it is not "owning" a team especially when it is significantly lower than your OPS versus everyone else. And that was mostly from when Konerko was good. Imagine what he'll do now. Maybe a .600 OPS? Konerko has a ton of home runs against the Royals. I believe it's the most of any opposing player. Not saying you, but the general vibe on this board regarding Paulie is negative or sarcastic more than praiseworthy which is hard for me to believe. I will never criticize Paulie.

The Beheading
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Right, people should feel safer here than in a foreign war torn land where people voluntarily ventured. Thats why the killings here effect me much more than those ones. You seem obsessed with the fact they "voluntarily" ventured over there. What's up with that? There are a lot of Americans seemingly all over the world. Pretty much anywhere you go you see an American and they in 99 percent of the cases thankfully won't get their heads slashed off for .... merely existing? These ISIS bastards are scum. The murders in Chicago are awful.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 03:52 AM) One of the most exciting bad Sox teams of all time probably. Flowers is earning a chance to continue to start in '15 imo. Granted his high BABIP early on masks alot of suckitude but defensively and durability wise he's solid and that's important, especially if the Sox are trying to break in Rodon next year. Not saying they can't do better -- they can -- but he's at least an option, that's positive. That's a pretty excellent first sentence. Can't argue with that, except some of those Sunday games where they looked like dead fish and that recent homestand where they sucked eggs. Again, you said it all in one sentence.
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
Flowers has 12 home runs in 370 at bats; Viciedo 18 in 456 at bats; Dunn 21 in 439 at bats. Is Tyler a big leaguer? Great win. ... Flowers, Viciedo, Petricka, Sanchez, Hector, etc.

I tell u one thing: A Viciedo highlight film put together by the Sox staff would be impressive. One of those that shows only his bombs. Same with Flowers. We know they both have made a million outs; I'm just saying they have some impressive highlights.
