  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) Will you please stop with this garbage? It's the same as saying "I can't believe no team in baseball would want a hall of famer like Albert Pujols" which is fundamentally true for exactly the same reason. You just keep doing it. I was just trying to point out why he won't be retiring. That home run had to feel so good and he knows 15 mill don't grow on trees.
  2. The homer by Dunn is why he's not going to retire. He'll remember how good that felt and look at his numbers and see he's still "productive." Hope his final year in a White Sox uniform is a winner, but that doesn't seem likely. It's amazing how no team in baseball will want a guy with his numbers. Just makes too much money for the whiff machine he often is.
  3. So the White Sox get four hits in an inning and get one run. Predictable the Orioles bomb a home run in the next at bat of the game. This game has 'loss' written all over it again. How the hell are the White Sox going to sell any tickets this offseason? You'd have to be a millionaire with tons of disposable income to buy a ticket to watch this again next season.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Also, I'd love to know the TV ratings that today's game will get Probably less than 100 people will watch it. Maybe no people?
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) Sorry Balta, but Reed is just another bullpen arm. Reed is good. Many, many of his teammates are not good. That is all.
  6. I'm starting to get mad again when I think about the Sox. I'm starting to blame Robin in my mind. I wouldn't be heartbroken if he up and quit at the end of this season. This team has had so many losing streaks, some of it has to be attributed to him. My gawd. This team blows. Maybe the worst Sox team in the last 30 years?
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 09:48 PM) Anyone got any specific date ideas in the southwest burbs that aren't dinner or a movie? Preferably something not too expensive. I'm bored. Playing pool and having a few drinks. Or go get coffee
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 04:31 AM) Not that anyone cares if I hi-jack this thread or not but I've got an old high school teammate who's on the Fenwick coaching staff and I'd like to check out one of their games.Who's the most entertaining team of the following...Brother Rice, St. Ignatius, or De La Salle? Any chance they're televised? I don't really expect you to know this but if you did that'd be sweet....Kinda wanna surprise the guy so I don't wanna ask him. I watched the Brother Rice-Marist game on highschoolcube.com tonight and Rice got obliterated. So I'd think Fenwick has a good chance of pounding Rice if Fenwick is any good. Check highschoolcube for the schedule. Rice has a second year coach who has the team playing no huddle wide open offense. Might take a while for that system to work out the kinks on the h.s. level.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) you didnt answer the question of why she's dangerous again. also... we've had two bushes, why not two clintons? I could be way off base, but she strikes me as diabolical. I just get the gut feeling her marriage with Bill is a sham and she wants to be president to one-up him. If she is Ms. Patriotism and a great lover of the office of president, then shame on me. I tend to believe those reports that she is a huge b****. Hence my feeling that she is dangerous. I know all presidential candidates have big egos probably and want to be in the history books. I just sense Hillary is a cocky SOB who treats the "commoners" poorly and I don't want her to be president. I also don't like her speeches. I do however LOVE BILL CLINTON. I do realize I could be mistaken, but right or wrong, that is what's going through my brain when I think of Hillary Clinton.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) You've never heard of Aziz Ansari? And he's from South Carolina. Never. How talented is Aziz? Seemed pretty funny.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 02:26 AM) Well, it is called professional courtesy and respect. That does mean something still. But, make out the line up with the young guys and let us see it instead of just complaining I know, El Rockin, but our regulars are among the worst collectively in Sox history. Playing young guys actually might help our chances of winning greatly. I mean DeAza, Viciedo are fringe big leaguers to begin with. Keppinger is a fringe big leaguer. Same with Beckham when he's going bad. Dunn and Paulie? They are laughably bad. Our catchers? I mean, Robin should play whoever he wants. Our regulars suck.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 02:37 AM) But at least they seemed to care in the Yankees series. The last two nights have been just ridiculous. Stoney and Hawk keep saying they don't want to play the younger guys because of respect to teams in a pennant race, but continuing to play the veterans is probably making it easier for the opposition to win. That's a great point. Just play the young guys. We don't owe any teams a damn thing. Like fathom says when we play our regulars it's just as bad or worse than playing young guys!
  13. Man, DeAza's batting average is plummeting. He's not worth much as a .250 hitter if he gets that low. Boy our team blows.

    2013 TV Thread

I watched the roast of James Franco. Not bad. Those roasts are brutal in terms of insults. Hearing so many guys calling Sara Silverman old was pretty damn funny. And the jokes regarding the comic from India were pretty damn funny as well. Also Jonas Hill blasting Bill Hader for leaving SNL was also funny.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Jose Quintana is 24. He's a year and 6 days older than Lawrie. He's tied for 25th in fWAR for pitchers in the majors and, while his FIP and xFIP are in the 3.8s, he's still an incredibly talented and valuable piece. Regarding Hector Santiago, he's a pretty good pitcher, but he struggles with control and allows a lot of flyballs. Until he can sink his fastball a little more, he's going to be a solid but inconsistent pitcher, closer to a 3 or a 4. There's no way I'd keep Santiago before Quintana. Oh, also, Santiago turns 26 in December. I agree 100 percent. I think Q has passed Santana on the prospect list. Q is a better pitcher IMO.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) You realize that 1) very few people feel at passionately about this as you do 2) she's the most popular politician in America and 3) she would have won the nomination if the novelty factor of Obama hadn't shown up. She will easily be the nominee, and she will easily beat anyone the GOP throws at her. Book it. Don't the democrats have anybody else to succeed Obama? The Republicans have so little to offer that Howie Mandel could beat their candidate. It's amazing how Obama is considered weak and very very ineffective, yet if he could run again, he'd win in a landslide again. Our country is all about perception and once you get Hollywood quacking and the media machine backing somebody like Obama it's all over. I can't believe the democrats want an aging unvibrant person like Hillary. Why is it her destiny to complete the husband/wife combo with both getting 16 years total as president? If she is all our country has to offer, my gosh.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) The more I see Gillaspie, the more I think he will be lucky if he's collecting a major league paycheck next year. His bat and glove have really taken steps backwards. You speak the truth.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 02:27 AM) Mitchell was like the 23rd pick in the draft and never considered "can't miss." He was an elite HS player and CWS MVP. It's called Google. Stop asking stupid questions and do a minimal amount of research. Www.google.com He's still a first-round pick. If he flops, somebody should be blamed.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 01:55 AM) I really wish you would stop saying this. It seems like collegiate-level players are being rushed to the majors very quickly, and given the Sox and their love of rushing their prospects through the system, I'll be stunned if they don't have their top pick on the fast track to the majors. Do you trust one of these college guys to be an impact hitter, though? What about that can't miss guy we got from Auburn or wherever, Mitchell. Isn't he looking like a big bust? I'd sign Abreu and some free agents and try to totally rebuild the lineup with $$$ in one offseason.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 01:36 AM) Adam Dunn told Fox Sports that he will consider retiring this offseason despite the fact that the Chicago White Sox slugger is under contract for $15 million in 2014. Dunn, 33, has 30 home runs this season despite a .228 batting average and has 436 homers over his 13-year career. But the two-time All-Star acknowledged Tuesday that he is not concerned about reaching the 500-homer mark or collecting his guaranteed salary for next year. "I'm not coming back just to come back for money or because I have one year left [on my contract]," Dunn told Fox Sports. "I'm not coming back to chase home run numbers or whatever. If I end up with 499 and I'm not having fun, see ya -- 499 it is." Although he has been a consistent power hitter since the beginning of last season, Dunn has struggled to a .199 batting average over 403 games since signing a four-year, $56 million deal with the White Sox prior to the 2011 season. Dunn told Fox Sports that he considers this season "a great letdown" by the White Sox, who entered play Wednesday with a 56-81 record -- the third-worst in the majors. "Winning is everything, especially now," he said. "That's why it's so tough. The expectations that not only I had, but we had as a team, were really high. For this to happen, I don't like the word 'devastating,' but it's probably tougher to handle than most." Dunn also said that one of his deciding factors would be Chicago's chances of success in 2014 after the White Sox traded ace right-hander Jake Peavy and two-time All-Star outfielder Alex Rios this season. "If it's looking like it's going to be one of those 'Oh boy' kind of years, that's going to determine a lot," Dunn said. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...ring-retirement He didn't talk about it again did he? This is just reax to the Rosenthal story I believe. Anyhow, please Adam, please retire. Please let the White Sox move on without the breeze coming from your bat. I'd bet a helluva lot of money he will never walk away from 15 million next year. His wife would hit him over the head with a pan as well she should if he doesn't "play" one more season with that kind of money on the line.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 01:45 AM) Which is one of the reasons a lot of us want them to get the highest draft slot possible so they can have the best chance possible to bring in an impact prospect. There is a giant gap in talent level though on the offensive end between the Sox and these other teams. Yeah our offense is quite putrid. We stand about a 5 percent chance of beating any team in an East Division ballpark with this current lineup. But no matter who we draft, it'll take forever for that player to reach the bigs and I have no confidence our ownership will pick the right guy. I probably should stop being a Sox fan considering how little I believe in them right now. I'd spend the offseason spending some money, signing some guys with a clue at the plate, maybe sign a good set up guy and beg Dunn and Konerko and Keppinger to retire (even though I love Paulie; I'd rather have him retire than sign with another team). This team could easily be out of it by May 1 next year if like I said before Detroit goes 20-8 and we continue this suckage and go 8-20 which is entirely possible especially if Robin stays. I think it's pretty obvious he's overmatched, at least that's my opinion.
  22. LOL at the White Sox trying to beat the Red Sox, Yankees and Orioles. This is truly one of the least competitive teams in Sox history. They stand no chance of winning with this collection of everyday players. The good starting pitching hasn't helped at all.

She will easily be the nominee, and she will easily beat anyone the GOP throws at her. Book it. She is going to be second term president at the age of 75-76? Or does she just want to be the first woman president and probably not run a second term? I don't trust Hilly. Sorry. I think she's a danger.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) On the surface the Palin pick looked desperate and pandering. The majority of voters never leave the surface. And that is why I feel Hillary has no chance. Voters don't leave the surface; she comes across as a huge grump/grinch on TV. Whether people like it or not the B word is in effect with her. I see her as losing and losing big. She'll probably never get the nomination to begin with cause she is not going to win because of her looks/personality and how it comes across IMO. Now if she wants to win, she should agree to no debates and let Bill do most of the campaigning.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Every ruler of every country dreams they could control and oppress their people the way North Korea does. I'd say its one hell of a catalyst that many governments want to emulate. Rodman should be ashamed of himself becoming buddy/buddy with their ruthless leader. What's that all about?
