  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) Can we get several Neifi Perez's to play the infield? No, we already have Gillaspie and Keppinger and Lillibridge, a skinny guy who decided it was best to be a power hitter. Sox have had a ton of bad players on the roster of late, not just Ozzies.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 04:02 AM) Regardless of what it is that the Sox do to their minor leaguers to get them to pitch out of their ass and over their heads (Dylan Axelrod putting up a 2.42 ERA over 260 innings between 3 levels), there were great reports of Johnson throughout and his ERA and perhipherals were even better. You're right that it is nice, and hopefully he's better after this. Looks like a good start to Semien's career. So great to see a new player go 2-for-4 in his debut.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 03:53 AM) No. Jesus this topic has gotten really f'ing stale True, but there are two really bad threads started of late. One on Ozzie and one on rooting for losing. Those 2 subjects are bound to bring out emotion in some posters who feel strongly about the issues.
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 03:27 AM) Ummm....28 games is entirely too early for that. And considering you never gave context for the other teams in our division, it's impossible to say. In 2012, we had a chance because Detroit was underperforming. In 2013, Detroit lived up to their potential, thus it was an easier decision for me to start rooting for losses. I stopped caring about this team winning sometime in June this year, so I guess ask me next June. OK, let's say we go 8-20 and we are playing gawd-awful baseball and Detroit is 20-8. Is it over? Do you start the unexplainable rooting for losses in May?
  5. Just curious how early in the season in 2014 the draftniks on this board will start rooting for the Sox to lose every game. It's pretty damn annoying. So lets say we go 8-20 to open the year. Will you be rooting for all losses in May, June, July, August and September? Just curious.
  6. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) and because he is a lousy manager. i have a question for you greg. do you defend ozzie's choice of getting rid of thome for mark kotsay? Not really. Kotsay is another bust who I disliked greatly. I always was of the opinion KW also was in the organization. He's as much to blame as Ozzie. What was Ozzie going to quit if he didn't get his way on Kotsay? But in answer to your question. Ozzie obviously blew it there. I'm sure after a month he was as sick of Kotsay's lousy at bats as everybody else. But again, that's on Kenny as well as Ozzie. Doesn't Kenny have a say in anything?
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 01:27 AM) A happy camper that a 56-81 team suddenly went on a 25-game winning streak to end the season? I would be furious that those bums didn't try for the first 137 games. Nothing to do with any draft pick. I never thought of that. I'd just be happy we were winning and not the laughingstock of the American League.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 02:01 AM) Worst road team I can ever remember. 0-10 road trip would be fitting. Team has had the look and feel of a loser most of the season. Hard to believe two teams are worse than the Sox record wise.
  9. Didn't watch the game. Did Johnson or Webb show anything of note? Anything to get excited about?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) The end game is to do our best to stop chemical weapons from ever being used in war, civil or otherwise. Otherwise why not just let Iran nuke Israel, because our involvement could cause things to be potentially be worse. Why have any rules I guess? I do have to back Badger's stance on this one. However, the long delay regarding this issue kind of takes away the impact of the upcoming bombings. It's like, 'We're voting ... we're soon going to bomb you. Get ready.' Then the bombs will begin I guess. How can you have P.C. bombings? Should be interesting to see how this is all received worldwide.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) No, I think that idea is silly. The world is not going to end. You've got leaks of radiation all over the place already. You've got dictators running AMOK still in the world. You have nutjobs in North Korea and China with concentration camps for godsakes. You have a world in which life is not valued at all. We've already had 9-11 and Boston bombings. We haven't had anybody put chemicals in our water yet or anybody else's water. I sense this all happening and of course nukes. Also we are all "warred out" in America so we are going to likely let a lot of this stuff escalate. Not to mention global warming and all those projections of doom. We are in big big trouble as a global community. I do think we need to bomb the s*** out of Syria over this issue to at least put out the word chemical weapons are not to be tolerated.

    Syria

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) What's the solution if we attack? How on Earth will bombing a few places in Syria prevent someone from using chemical weapons on U.S. soil? Based on the example of what happened in Libya, the more you fracture the Syrian regime the more likely it seems that control of those weapons will be lost. If the humanitarian bombs turn the tide of the war, as the Senate resolution calls for, it's entirely possible that Syrian chemical weapons will make their way into the hands of people who would use them against the United States. The only way that bombing Syria would somehow prevent that is if we were to successfully bomb all of their chemical weapons...but if you hit the weapons with conventional bombs, you effectively start a chemical weapons attack because you send large quantities of Sarin into the air. Our bombs can literally cause little kids to die while gasping for air. I do agree that Obama pretty much outlining what we are going to do kind of ruins the initiative. We're doing everything but telling them the exact moment we will bomb and the exact places we will bomb. They've probably already spread the chemical weapons all over the map as we debate the issue. Do you at least agree with me the world IS GOING TO END within 100 years if this keeps up?? We have to make a stand. If we bomb chemical weapons plants and that causes the emission of chemical weapons into the community, obviously that's not a desired result of the attacks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) You're right I keep hammering on it because as soon as the excitement of the missiles is off the front page the disasters we've unleashed get ignored. Libya, for example, the great triumph of this type of intervention, is a complete clusterf*** right now. The country is being torn apart, ruled by warlords, and arms from the Libyan army are going to supply an entire generation of wars and terrorist attacks throughout North Africa because they've gone completely out of control. There are civil wars brewing all over North Africa supplied by those weapons. The last time we did this, the air war killed a ton of people, not just the combatants but a lot of other people, and the result has been thousands of small massacres replacing the one big massacre we tried to avoid. And the consequences on the ground, the piles of dead bodies from the air campaign, are literally ignored because there's no one there to cover them. What is the solution then, Balta? Please answer. We can't keep ignoring this atrocity and that atrocity or all of a sudden chemical weapons may be used on our soil. The world indeed is f***ed. I would say it will DEFINITELY end w/in 100 years because of man bombing man and poisoning man. But doesn't Obama have to try to stave this off by bombing the s*** out of those who use chemical weapons? It is pretty damn horrible to see those little kids die. Gutwrenching. We could continue to ignore this stuff, but it adds up.
  14. Rosenthal had a nice scoop but it was obvious that story was going to change quickly ... as it did. He's not giving up 15 million bucks. Odds of that are the same as the Sox winning the WS next year.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Serious question here... What general manager is going to stake a large part of his job security on the stability of Ozzie Guillen? None. It would take an order from Jerry to bring him back. Ozzie is pretty much unhireable cause of Castro and the other comments.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Bernstein currently speculating that this could be a Billy Martin situation one day. Not that I want to ruin a perfectly nice day for any of you... Pure speculation,of course, is what it sounds like If Robin quits and KW leaves .... I can dream. Ozzie Time Part Deuce.
  17. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 03:35 AM) I agree, just hope Ventura does not play Connor at 3b tomorrow, he has been atrocious. If he's our starting third baseman next year ... that is a bad bad sign of what the 2014 season entails.
  18. Definitely No. 1 the 25-0 record. I'd be a happy camper. Sadly, the team is back in the tank, probably playing its worst baseball of the season.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 03:56 AM) I agree 90% he will be back just putting what I saw out there. Yeah, thanks for posting that. That was a good scoop by the writer but Dunn can't turn down 15 mill I'd bet.
  20. In answer to the thread's question, very uncomfortable. I do not root for the draft pick. I can honestly, from the bottom of my soul, say that every game the Sox play I want them to win. There is not one part of me that wants a loss. If that makes me a bad fan, so be it. I want wins each and every day. p.s. I assume el Rockin is with me on this stance.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 04:34 AM) Adam Dunn told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal Tuesday that he could retire after the season. Dunn is just 33, is guaranteed $15 million next season and is within shouting distance of 500 homers, but he indicated that a lack of enjoyment for the game could lead him to walking away. "I'm not coming back just to come back for money or because I have one year left (on his contract)," Dunn said. "I'm not coming back to chase home-run numbers or whatever. If I end up with 499 and I'm not having fun, see ya — 499 it is." It's certainly something to file away, but it's hard to see Dunn giving up a guaranteed $15 million. Per Rotoworld Good item, but after a month or two at home in the offseason, his wife (I presume he's married) will say, 'Honey we need to talk. You can certainly hang in there one more year for that 15 million; then we can talk about it again after next season, right?"
  22. Anybody got a link for me for the Ozzie interview? You know you'll be making my day. It'll be your good deed for the day knowing I'm Ozz's third biggest fan (next to his son and Quin's brother).
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 02:07 AM) From what Hawk was saying earlier, it looks like Konerko,Dunn, Alexei, De Aza are all in their final month as White Sox. He said Beckham was the most accomplished hitter returning next year. First of all, who the hell is going to take Dunn off the Sox hands at that salary? Hawk knows better than that. Nobody will want Dunn. I would hope we all agree on that. Secondly, I know Alexei and DeAza probably piss off Robin for their many botched plays. Understandable, but I will say, good luck to the Sox replacing them. Our lineup has the potential to be one of the worst in baseball history if the Sox don't get somebody to hit in those two spots. Say what you want about them being mental midgets, Alexei and DeAza at least get multi-hit games once in a while. Paulie, yeah he's probably gone. But again, if we don't get Abreu (sp?) our lineup really really really could be weak. Paulie is going to start for somebody next year. So he still is a big-leaguer. Wow, does Hahn have work to do if Hawk is right. We might truly have a 110-loss team if all those guys are leaving. It's not like we have bats to replace them. Let's hope their replacements are more like Garcia and less like Keppindisaster.
  24. What a disgraceful start to September. So the Sox had one little hot streak all season. What a joke of a season. And to those of you mad at me for my posts, look in the mirror. Some of you post the same stuff as well. Such as, "Glad we are losing." "Ha ha, five run eighth, keep it up, please lose." "I hope so and so gets shelled tomorrow so we lose." It's all the same. You say I POST the same things. Many of you are doing the same fricking thing. You also beat a dead horse and post the same things over and over. Pot/kettle deal here. Yes I am PISSED at this joke of a season and joke of a franchise (see our top four outfield prospects from the recent drafts. Nice job of drafting, White Sox. Hope you do better with the No. 1 2 or 3 pick this year."
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) ^this...and most boards would classify that as trolling I hope nobody thinks I'm trolling. I've said before I don't even know what trolling means. If you want me to change my posting style, let me know, but I hope you all trust what I print is what I mean even if it seems warped to you. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) Unless you're my brother, you're not. He's my brother's childhood idol and they have almost the exact same personality. That's neat your brother also loves Ozzie. Does he swear as much as Oz? I just can't see another team ever hiring Ozzie as manager because of the P.R. hit the team would take. In this day and age you can't hire a guy who can be googled like Ozzie can be googled (comments on Castro, gays, drinking a six pack after every game, etc). Only Jerry can rescue him as Jerry is his father figure.
