QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) and maybe, just maybe, that it's better to rise above then to use violence against people. Maybe? True, but like Mex said, their positions are pretty damn despicable. It takes a lot of restraint for the relatives of fallen soldiers to hear a bunch of trash-asses from Topeka screaming "God hates XXXX" at the funeral of their loved ones. And the Topeka dips***s get as close to the funeral ceremonies as they can legally. These people are contenders for the most low-rent piece of s*** hate group out there today. They are so pathetic, that up close and personal, I don't think they are worth a fist.

I just thought of something today. Part of the TV coverage of these horrible tragedies includes interviewing some of the caring parents of the victims. One dad had a press session and was crying and it of course broke my heart. This dad pretty much forgave the killer, as did a mom of one of the angels, who said she would not be bitter toward the killer. There have to be some parents of the 20 angels who would love additional gun control and get some of these weapons of war/terror off the streets. I wonder how some of the loudmouths against gun control would treat such a parent in a debate situation. Would they try to speak over that parent like most of these "discussions" on Chris Matthews' show and O'Reilly's show or would they let the parent speak. I mean, how the f*** can a human being argue with a mom or dad whose baby has been executed by weapons of terror??? Also, I think the mom, who was murdered, may be getting a bad rap. I watched an interview last night with 3 of her friends, one guy very upset that she was being characterized as a gun nut. He said she liked to go to the range, but didn't talk about it much, just said she enjoyed it. She also said how challenging it was to raise her son with his condition, but she didn't obsess about it. And another said she was such a nice person she'd hear about somebody in trouble and whip out her check book and try to help immediately. These issues are complicated, but from what I saw in that interview of three people, the mom appeared to be a normal, nice, good person. Finally, what is this about the kids all holding hands as they were shot and killed? Are more details out?? Did this killer have a mass execution where he didn't just fire away, but he was organized and had them all hold hands, etc? Makes me cry some more.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) I swear that if WBC members showed up to a funeral of a family member of mine to protest it, whether it would be because one of those little kids were related to me or if God forbid one of my cousins in Iraq (two were serving there) were killed, they'd have to peel me away from them. These are some sick twisted f***s. They are the scum of the earth, but I think the reason nobody ever beats the hell out of them at funerals is a.) they are lawyers and are dying to sue people and b.) if you actually look at them or talk to them you realize they are not worth your fists. They just say the same things over and over and they just seem like trash if that's the right word. It's not worth the effort to punch them and I think people see that when they approach them.

This might have been a freudian (sp) slipup, but thrown in there in the midst of your other sentences/thoughts, I think it shows how you really feel. You are acting cool and calm, but you are head over heels and want to spend every waking moment with her basically. She is nowhere near that point. Did I get it correct? That's OK, but she is acting kind of bizarre. Maybe this is a different kind of girl like you said, but in most cases I think we would be right in thinking she is keeping you around as a fallback. We'll see.

To the nonbelievers out there, what do you think of Obama being our "pastor in chief" the other night? Not trying to rub it in, just wondered if you were outraged or think his words quoting scripture and mentioning heaven, etc., were offensive to you. http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/12/17/m...hief/?hpt=hp_t2

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 04:44 AM) yep. who knows? all i know is that in THIS moment I'm a lot happier than I was before. so I'm gonna ride that till it's no longer the case. Well, good. I'm all for happiness, especially after the weekend and that sadness in Connecticut.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) spent 9 hours together. saw the movie, held hands etc. went to dinner and had a great time, then walked 40 blocks and got dessert/drinks - just altogether a TON of fun. we talked ahead of time and decided to treat it like a first date kind of vibe. at the end of the night she instigated the kissing, didn't want it to be over, walked to her place extra slowly, blah blah blah. she had a great time, I had a great time, everything was great. until i let myself slip just a tiny bit. unfortunately that tiny bit was probably enough to undo the entire day's worth of fun, great conversation, great chemistry, etc. basically after all that, she said "lets take the day to process all this, and then lets talk tomorrow night" (smart, rational decision) but for some reason i felt like I wanted something more concrete in the moment and I pushed a little too much. nothing like... bad or ridiculous, but i think i highlighted the fact that even though we have fun together and feel strongly about each other, we're still not in the same exact place. nonetheless after a lot of me waffling and basically showing her that she still does hold the cards, we said goodnight, I said sorry for being weird at the end. she told me not to be sorry and that i put together an amazing date and she had a great time, and she was gonna call me tonight when she gets off work. what the f*** are you supposed to do when you love someone and they love you back, but they also have life stuff they want to figure out?? My heart wants to be patient, and my brain says that if she can't make a commitment to me, then why the f*** should I wait? I'm mostly just venting... and thinking... and writing it all down helps me process. Man, you are in a crazy 1-1 relationship. I have no opinion on whether she's seeing anybody else or not. I will say this: if you get back together, that would be a surprise ending to this story for me. I just get the feeling something is amiss. Update on the 23-year-old woman who left my 29-year-old friend for some 35-year old teacher's aide with 3 kids and a $20,000 a year paycheck. My friend now has decided to not try to get her back in February. He still is hooked on her, though. He needs to meet somebody else, and fast. This 23-year-old sounds a bit unstable to me. I wonder what this girl in your situation would do if you met somebody else. That actually could happen. If I were you, I'd be open to any possibilities with new women. I wouldn't wait on her. It does sound to me like you are head over heels for her. Like my friend, I think you should look elsewhere. If she comes back before you meet somebody, fine. If not, hopefully you'll meet a great woman, woman of your dreams who wants to be with you.

Look, this issue is very simple IMO. Restrict the rules on weapons designed to wipe out dozens, hundreds of people at a time. Why the f*** do these weapons need to be out there in society? I mean, grow up, Americans. We don't need weapons of war on our streets and in the hands of mothers who like weapons, weapons that can be stolen by mothers' sons where they kill 20 little angels.

I don't want to "rate" Obama's speech tonight. It's not about him looking good or bad. I thank him for being a good leader tonight and speaking to me (us). Some people may crack jokes about the tragedy or be numb since we have so many tragedies, but I thought Obama helped ease the pain. I couldn't help but look at all the little kids at Mass tonight with their parents and just couldn't help but picture them sitting in a classroom and some lunatic prick executing them. Obama said "are we doing enough to protect the children?" He said obviously not "so we have to change." We'll see what he has in mind but tonight, thank u Mr. President.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 05:42 AM) You can just see another Ruby Ridge or Branch Davidians/David Koresh situation developing. Seems they are itching for a confrontation, not unlike that Terry Jones guy in Florida with the Koran burnings. I think they are just a bunch of old, bitter Topekans. It's really just the one family and a batch of relatives. They don't have much of a following. I think they are fleas, pests.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 05:23 AM) Westboro Baptist Church Home Page www.godhatesf**s.com/ - 网页快照 - 翻译此页您已公开地对此项 +1。 撤消Web Site of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS. Pastor: Fred Phelps. God hates f**s. God hates f**-enablers. Therefore, God hates america and this... Unsurprisingly, their website now seems to be down. Greg lives not so far from their church, Lawrence to Topeka is just a hop, skip and a jump. Yeah, they are all sick assholes. One bad thing about them is they include children in their message of hate. They make their kids hold the "God Hates XXXXs" signs. They do another thing that also angers me. Westboro announced they would picket the funerals of the precious little kids killed by the madman in Ct. Well, they are not a national organization. They are so unlikeable and despicable that they have no real national movement. So that means they'd have to drive or fly to Ct to picket and usually they don't go. So they get all this publicity which they want, when they can't even afford to fly there and do their thing. They say they are going to Naval funerals, etc., but most times don't show up. Now if they do show up for some reason, I can always hope somebody messes with them. Do a youtube search and you can see comedians f***ing with them, pretending they are wanting to have sex with them, etc. It pisses them off. It's cool their Website has been messed with by Anonymous. I can't get on the site. I hate that organization. Bunch of bastards.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 02:53 AM) Hell, I'm crying as Obama reads these names. Heartbreaking. So sad. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 02:57 AM) I want those people tortured. They are sub-human people. So much is wrong about those scumbags.

My heart goes out to this dad who lost his daughter. What a classy person he is. Interesting, typical God vs. no God arguments in the comments section below the article. http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/16/us/connectic....html?hpt=hp_c2

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) 10 Things Christians and Atheists Can (and Must) Agree On Good article. I have no idea if there is a God or not. I can't prove it. I believe there is one and celebrate at an organized religion (my choice is Catholic), but I don't see how either side can say with absolute certainty there is a God. It cannot be proven either way as far as I can tell. I know some atheists and have nothing against their position because there may be a God, there may not be a God. Who the f*** can prove it either way??
-
Quin I can't even respond. I don't think Soxtalk wants me to respond when I disagree so much with one specific person. I'd have to take it 1-1 private to not pollute the board with my protests of dissent even more. As far as more horrible aspects of this.... It's the second threat in as many days for St. Rose, according the Washington Post. On Saturday, the church displayed posters for parishioners to express their grief. However, an unknown prankster wrote, "This is just round one," on one of them, the pastor said. So there's a death threat to the church today where they were having a memorial Mass and somebody else in the town devastated by this tragedy says "this is round one." Wow. And Westboro baptist wants to picket the funerals of the little kids. Great, just great.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) Sigh, greg, CLEARLY the guy is a bastard and a jackass. But you're using one example to define everyone who doesn't believe in God. That article insinuates that by not believing in God, our nation is more fractured. But let's take a look at how our nation would be if the most outspoken religious American's were always right. We'd be segregated. Not just black and white, but black, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc. Gays would be persecuted. Not just no marriage for them, but straight up persecuted. Only people to hold any office would be white, Anglo-Saxon, protestant males. Women would have next to no real rights. Need I go on? QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) GREG. the fact that you said his response was WRONG means that you're doing the EXACT THING that you're criticizing other Americans of doing, and that's NOT LISTENING to other viewpoints!!!!!! good god man your hypocrisy is astounding! I said it was 'wrong' because the guy was not saying anything of that sort. The article was very mild, not uttering any of those things. I can accept Quin's later post. I read it. I digested it. I agree that's his opinion and he made some good points. That's what America used to be about. Tolerance of all opinions. Disagreeing with some. Read the caufield article then read what Quin wrote in response. I mean, my gosh. Seriously? I'm going to try to stop now because I've made my position clear, am depressed about all this and don't need to pollute the board.
-
And Quin, I do have an open mind. I don't preach on facebook about God because I know most of the people I know on there would be offended. I read the positions of other people and normally am silent (except on a message board I guess, where I can vent anonymously) and laid back and let the louder people get their way. I worship alone, lest I hurt somebody else's feelings who doesn't worship. I read your opinions. I read all opinions. I am not 100 percent sure even there is a God. All I am sure of is like the article stated, we are in a period of moral decline. We are killing ourselves in this country. It's only going to get worse. The only way it gets better is with a total lockdown, which also will be coming. More and more security, etc. The moral fiber of our country is departing us and I'd like to examine the issue. Could I be wrong about solutions??? Of course. I would gladly defer to ANYBODY who can fix this. I'll stop commenting about this except to thank Caufield for finding that article and state that that pretty much summizes my position on this stuff. Rather than the poorly worded post on my position earlier.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) I DON'T KNOW GREG? HOW BOUT YOU TELL ME? THE ARTICLE IMPLIES THAT WE ARE A NATION LOST BECAUSE WE ALL DON'T FOLLOW THE CHRISTIAN BELIEF. BUT BECAUSE YOU AGREE WITH THAT YOU GLOSS OVER IT. CLEARLY THE MOTHERf***ER IN THE STORY IS A BASTARD. BUT HE IS THE EXCEPTION NOT THE RULE. Your second response was reasoned. But see what your first response was?? The one that was completely loud, WRONG and full of it? That's what we have in America today. take a look at what you wrote. You didn't consider any of the guy's points about evil. You jumped all over a somber toned article that brought up some points that people like me believe to be true. A dissention of opinion. This is done a million times over in this country. Nobody has respect for anybody else's beliefs. There can be a discussion on NOTHING anymore. For you to get that out of that article, just depresses me because I know there's no hope. It goes on everywhere much worse than even what you wrote. We truly are doomed as a society. This proves it for me. It's going to get so much worse.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Yup, time to just kill off all the non-believers. We should force our religion on everyone. That always works. But hey, if makes certain Christians feel right to get rid of everyone else, let it be so. See? You jump to all these conclusions in an attempt to deem this a silly article lest it interfere with your beliefs a moment. "Force our religion on everyone!" Who the f*** said that in that article????? This is a perfect example. God I'm depressed over all this.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) Which is exactly why we can't have a sane discussion about guns in this country, because some people refuse to accept any change from the status quo at all unless its even less control. You can't have a sane discussion about ANYTHING. Read the article caufield posted and we'll see the reaction. The good, normal people of Soxtalk will mock me for believing in God; they will not consider any positions in that article about "evil." Like the article stated, the loudest voices in our country don't want to hear anything except their own position. And meanwhile? Like the article stated our country can't come together on ANYTHING except feeling grief in times like this. Whatever happened to having an open mind?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) I think this article basically encapsulates Greg's basic position... RSEDITOR OF REDSTATEComing Together By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 14th, 2012 at 04:37 PM | 335 At times like this we are told we must "come together." When you think about, we don't, as a nation, come together much any more except in tragedy. We used to come together as a nation during the Olympics, when we rooted for Americans. But in recent years we are too often lectured about the jingoism in rooting for America. We used to come together as we sent men and women in to space, but we can't much afford to do that any more and we don't. When we come together for most sporting events, we find ourselves divided among friends among teams. We come together as a nation every four years to inaugurate the President, but it is as bitter and divisive as every. About the only time we ever come together as a nation anymore is when savage tragedy happens. When men fly planes into tall buildings or gun down children or shoot up a movie theater, we gather, pray, and cry. It is not healthy for a nation that its only acts of coming together are acts of tragedy, or even charity stemming from tragedy. Our nation once shared a God who we all prayed to. Increasingly, the loudest voices in the nation are hostile to that God and those who worship him. The conversation at times of evil is immediately drown out by political opportunists seeking to drive their agenda. The news channels meditate on the nature of gun violence and gun restrictions or what other restrictions or laws can ever be used. We do that, in part, because in times of helplessness it makes us feel like we can do something. But we can do nothing in the face of evil until we confront evil itself. The tragedy unfolding today is not an act of the insane, but an act of evil. That evil may drive the shooter insane, but in focusing on the insanity we lose focus on the evil. There is really real good and there is really real evil in the world. Each time I have written that here on this site a vocal group of secularists and atheists have loudly chimed in to ridicule me for doing so. They'll do so again. But in this small window America has a real moment to assess why it is that it is careening out of control morally and socially. In that small window, instead of discussing the politics or the laws, we should discuss the evil and the good and the God from whom we have, as a nation. drifted so far. It is not healthy for a nation to only come together at times like this. It is not healthy for a nation to come together at tragedy so far removed from God. THANKS CAUFIELD, You know me better than most cause of my rants in the past. This is exactly what I was TRYING to say. Exactly my position. Thanx. p.s. Did you all see this? A death threat was phoned into today's church service in Ct., and they had to clear the church. Our country is a joke; our country is doomed. There was another sicko out there that thought it appropriate to call in a death threat??? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/newtow...-182416799.html

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Like...three...have ADD. Try again. It appears worse because we have 24 hour news and we're now an instant society so we jump on any bad story (obviously this aside, this is bad in any era). It's like the whole rainbow party scare from a few years ago. Which was false. But it got in people's heads. How many were put on drugs by your parents, though? I think we live in a very very twisted world. I hope somehow it can turn around.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) No, we were definitely raised "softer" but we were wrong at points. Also, we've lived in more "fearful" world than others in recent memory. 9/11 changed a lot and we grew up in the middle of that fear. Kind of like the Cold War, but in this case something actually happened. However, being friends with my parents is something I cherish. Yeah, we all got trophies in little league but that stopped at like, age 10. What's wrong is that we don't really need it. And LOL. A majority believe in God greg. Holy s*** is that an inaccurate statement. Sure, there are more agnostics/atheists/theists now, but a majority are Christian. People can recognize it. They can pray. They just can't make others be included in it because we're moving away from being Christian-centric. People are given choices on what they want to be Greg. They have Church for a reason. And to act like no Christian person has ever tried to carry out something in the name of God...it's a two way street. How many of your friends have ADD? How many have been drugged their whole lives by your parents? Both generations are at fault here. It's only getting worse.
-
Will the latest tragedy, coupled with the movie theatre massacre, influence your decision whether or not to bring children into this world? Do you believe your children will have a fighting chance to have a career in which they can make a good living? do they have a fighting chance to enjoy a better lifestyle than their parents? Or are you afraid you are bringing them into a world where they will not be able to find a good job? The economy has been bad for so long it's hard to envision it getting much better, it's hard to imagine prosperity again. Do you think the dangers within our own country (our citizens murdering each other) and the international threat (China, others who may want to blow us to smitheeens) are so scary and real you would not want a child to have to face these dangers? Do you believe the polluting of our country by our own citizens will increase the natural disasters and droughts and assure a land that has horrible living conditions? Do you want to bring children into a new age of horrible weather and atrocities? Just curious. I personally think most parents will want one child, two at the very most because of the scary world we live in today.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) Greg, I'm an atheist that grew up in this generation. I'm not going to go do heinous acts. Not because I don't fear God, I'm really not afraid of most things (that can harm me personally, I'm deathly afraid of loved ones being in pain). I don't do it because I'm a human being and I don't to put others through pain and frustration. God isn't my motivation for not doing things, love and understanding is. Wow. Just...what the f*** man. What the f***. I'm just saying in general it would help to have a less p.c. society. Our last two mass murderers here are under 25. Would it hurt to have these guys consider there might be a God? Do you at least recognize the way your generation was raised -- the fact you guys were never wrong; the fact you guys always had to be catered to; the fact you guys were raised to be buddies with your parents might have been wrong? What's wrong with a little God in society? And there are always exceptions. You are probably the nicest guy and best person in the world, but I'm saying the principles of being a God-loving person wouldn't hurt some of these nutjobs. They might choose to be atheist, they might not. None of them are given the chance to decide with them being taught that while a minority of people believe in God, we can't pray in school, we can't even recognize that God thing might exist. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) I don't know if Morgan Freeman actually said this, but if he did, I swear he should be knighted: Morgan Freeman's statement about these random shootings.... "You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why. It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody. CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next. You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem." Blaming the media is an old crutch. Cmon, Morgan. People want to know what happened and part of the story is the scumbag killer. I do agree there's a bit too much coverage of the killer himself. But we have to learn the facts of the case, we have to. Blaming the media is pretty week, Morgan.
