  1. Update on my 26 year old friend (single no kids), the one dumped by a 23 year old woman who left him for a 33-year-old guy at her workplace with 3 kids (one as old as 10). I didn't know he was this f***ed up, but he's decided to make a play for her in February. He's going to wait until then, and at that time either take part in some big production where he dramatically asks for her back or something more simple where the intent is the same: to ask her to leave the guy and return to him. I told him that seems kind of stupid and she'll likely reject him and get the 'last laugh.' His response was, ''I have to try, for closure. I have to see if she wants me back. She may want me back but thinks I've moved on.'' Most of his friends have advised him to forget her, but he said as of today he's intent on doing this. I did ask him, "If she's capable of doing this now, what if you get married and have 2 kids and she dumps you then?" He said, "I'd take that risk." Love is blind? Or ???

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 05:04 AM) Thank you sir. Ya at this point it's nothing more than a dream and I've said that many a times. I've also agreed the way to do it is from the bottom up but this is a special circumstance with it being so close to me, both physically and sentimentally (been getting food from there all my life). It certainly is fun to entertain the idea. Your only hope right now is to find an investor who likes you with money money money. Find him or her.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) Francouer murdered the Sox last year...to the tune of a .768 OPS. How many homers did he hit against us? I remember at least 3. pissed me off.
  4. Grew up in Mt. Greenwood. Lot of Sox fans, lot of Cub fans in the close-knit neighborhood, too. My dad was a huge Sox fan but very busy guy working at Board of Trade supporting his family. So I didn't do a lot of things with him. My grandfather happened to be a big Cubs fan and since he was retired had a lot of time on his hands and took me to a ton of Cub games. Cubs/Sox...I didn't care. I was hooked on the visual of walking through the turnstyle and up the stairs and seeing a real life baseball field. The green was mesmerizing. My dad got Sox season tickets one year in the upper deck and took me to a lot of games. So I actually became a fan of both teams. Then we moved to suburbia my junior year in high school. My dad's business partner was one of the zillion members of the Sox ownership group. So my dad got 4 Sox season tickets in the fifth row to the left of home plate. He'd go to the games but sit in a box, usually leaving me the 4 tickets and parking pass if I wanted them. Being in high school with nothing to do in the summer, I got to go to a ton of Sox games with my friends. Almost all the games. We'd drive in from suburbia and meet my dad for delicious corned beef sandwiches or beef sandwiches at the park, then he'd go back up to the box and me and three friends would enjoy the games in the fifth row. I had pretty much dumped the Cubs by then. I just didn't really care if they won or lost. Went to college in Kansas and got into tons of arguments with Royals fans in my frat and was pretty much known for my Chicago fanaticism, especially regarding the Sox. Would go to Sox-Royals games with frat friends and enjoyed being the one Sox fan in the group. Sox have had a history of sucking in games in KC and usually I was on the short end of the stick watching those games. I've seen the Sox lose games in so many different ways in games played in KC. In adulthood have only followed the Sox, don't care about the Cubs. So once again .. is that the story of a troll?
  5. Well, the White Sox better come to play against the Royals this year head to head. We know they have hitters that can beat us. Butler, Hosmer if he bounces back, Moose, Gordon, even Francour hits us and nobody else. Their catcher is a total stud. Now are you ready for Shields, Santana, Guthrie, Chen and Davis? It's time for the White Sox to play some competitive baseball against the Royals. You got to admit. Except for Davis' start and Sale's start, I don't like our chances in any one of those matchups considering our lousy play vs. KC and their elevated play vs. the Sox.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) You cannot be serious... Even if that was the case and Hahn wants to hire somebody else, why hire Ozzie Guillen when there are many managers out there who favor numbers far more than Guillen? Did somebody say, 'hire Ozzie Guillen?' Is there hope?
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:27 AM) Exactly. Although we also had Juan Pierre and everybody but a few hated him. I just think Keppinger is not even as good as Teahen, that's all.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) The #1 thing investors look for is knowledge of the business / industry. You don't have it. If your passion can't lead you to learn and develop a plan on how to succeed, then it is only going to lead you to failure. Chances are that location you want to buy will turn over 10 more times in the next 3 years. You'll have your time, if you really want it to happen. I know others have given their advice, but I see this stuff every single day. Even the entrepreneurs with great plans realize that even the best plan doesn't survive first contact with the real world, but at they are prepared for it. All we see and hear about are the entrepreneurs that become huge successes. Nobody ever talks about those that fail miserably and lose everything. You've got what it takes; just do it the right way. Everyone in this thread wants to see you become a huge success; just give yourself the best chance to succeed. Great great post. Makes too much sense.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) How else am I to respond to what wite said? I'm not ignoring anything, I hear you guys. Yes, I agree the route that should be taken is from the bottom to the top of the food business. I'm asking for too much right off the bat. This is just a "dream location" and thats why I even brought it up, and I truly believe I can be successful at this spot. This house I'm living in now is already willed to me, it's paid off, my family has been in it since the 30's, so how sweet would it be to run the business 5 seconds away? Pretty flippin sweet. If you want it this bad, do a quick business plan and find an investor. Find out how much the building and parking lot cost maybe you can get a loan since you are a homeowner or have a home willed to you.

It seems he has the dream and the passion for cooking but isn't willing to simply get a job as a chef to learn the ropes and mingle with experienced people to make some contacts and learn how George's Giros might make it under his direction. Second city, what's the hurry? You need a job and if you can cook, you can get a job I'd think at any of many places. Then you can learn the ins and outs of the food preparation business. One man running George's Gyros and ordering all the ingredients and doing all the cleaning of the stoves and floors and bathrooms and making sure everything is refrigerated and fresh and making sure your customers are satisfied ... it seems you'd need at least five people. No man can work every day of the calendar year cooking and taking care of all those duties. And you even said you'd like to take orders from the hospital. Let's say some family visiting their dad at the hospital takes you up on it and you get 10 orders from one large family via phone. Just taking the orders via phone, making the orders during lunch hour (with other people wanting to be served) and getting all that done in a reasonable amount of time is a daunting task. The hospital is so close, what if one day you get 25 orders at lunch time and that day you happen to have five customers waiting in line wanting food. You need at least a handful of people to have a shot at not having a heart attack the first month. It seems to me you want a business to be run on your own terms. Enough customers to make a living, but not too many customers for one man to handle. Can you imagine the hassles of not having enough beef one day whereas you can only serve chicken? I despise going to restaurants when they are out of certain things. I think you could run the place as a one-man operation if you got 5 orders from the hospital per day, five customers during lunch hour, five customers during dinner hour. Would 15 orders a day be enough to pay the rent? What do you do if you get 100 orders one day and 2 the next?
  12. Did Wisky fans run Bielema out of town? Seems a bad fit for him at Arkansas. Were 3 straight Rose Bowls not good enough or ? Seems to me he badly wanted a change of scenery. Another ? Do you think you can tell after one year if a coach will make it? As such, do you think Illinois will be canning its current coach in 2 years? What about 1-11 Charlie Weis at Kansas? Do you think he's gonzo after one more season?
  13. I had burgers tonight with the guy who was dumped by his 23 year old girlfriend of two years for a 33 year old guy with 3 kids. My friend, the one dumped, is 26 or 27. Some of you wanted to know if she had daddy issues. Turns out no, she has a good relationship with her mom and dad. My friend did say that his ex girlfriend said she emotionally checked out of their relationship when he re-upped his lease for another year without discussing the possibility of her moving in with him. He told her if she wanted to move in she could have mentioned it and he would have been up for the idea. Do you think she will tire of the divorced guy with 3 kids soon or ? My friend did tell me he paid for everything during the 2 years, including a vacation to Bahamas. He said the divorced guy with 3 kids works at the school making 22,000 a year. My friend's mom told my friend her fear is he will take her back when she comes crawling back. Any further comments? I have listened to my friend because he said he is devastated and has thought of suicide but the thoughts were fleeting. However if those thoughts hit his mind I think the least I can do is have food with him once in a while and hear how he's doing.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) He is far from a lousy hitter. Unless guys are putting up Miguel Cabrera type numbers, they just don't cut it for you, do they? OK in 292 at bats for the White Sox he hit .235 with 15 homers and 46 RBI. He did walk 37 times. For the year in its entireity he hit .235 with 19 homers and 60 RBIs. 51 walks isn't too bad. In September he hit .220 with three homers and a lousy 8 rbis. He had 22 strike outs in 91 at bats. Like most of our hitters, he choked or simply sucked down the stretch, however you wish to describe it. Those are not the stats of a 12 million buck a year player, especially at 34. He's also an average at best fielder. He was not special at all with the glove. I don't know who to compare his stats to in White Sox history, but if his name wasn't Youkilis I don't think people would be happy with that performance. Now you could say if he stayed with the White Sox an entire year in 600 at bats he'd hit 30 home runs with 92 RBIs. I guess if you believe that you give him 12 million bucks, but I didn't really see an all-star caliber player in Youk with the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) Cheating has nothing to do with communication or or playing games. It has to do with people having a complete lack of self control over the basic instincts built into their DNA. At it's core, it's what we are, and while we can deny that, it's reality. Just because you get married doesn't mean a switch flips and suddenly other women are no longer sexually attractive. Any married man that claims this is a stone cold liar, and any single guy that thinks this is in for a rude awakening. I'm a happily married man...one thats never cheated despite having multiple chances to do so. Now, did I want too? Yes. The blood flowing in my veins didn't suddenly turned cold and blue after I pronounced 'I do'. Other women still turn me on, possibly more so than any single guy could imagine. But when I look at my life, my family, and everything surrounding it, I know I'd NEVER act on those animalistic feelings/instincts because I exercise human thought/intelligence and self control and weigh it against the sure alternative...losing my family and the way things are out of a choice is something would NEVER do for ANY reason whatsoever. It's about being an evolved civilized person that doesn't cave to basic instincts that drive us at our core. It's about being human and exercising that one thing we have that animals cant come close to touching. Intelligence. I always am amazed that guys have opportunities to cheat with married women. I can see not telling a single girl you meet at the club you are married and cheat in that way. But I never get in opportunities where I could cheat with a married woman. The guys I know who cheat do so because they want a hot woman. It has nothing to do with their current wives. They are just selfish snakes who want sex with hot women. They still want their wives. They still want family life. They just want sex. They refuse to give it up even though they took a solemn vow.
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 07:37 PM) FWIW Youk has a 1 year $12M dollar offer on the table, from NYY. Man, that's big time money for a guy in obvious decline. He is a below average fielder at third and lousy hitter. Good luck, Yankees. Wow.

  18. Why has chavez played in so few games the past few years?
  19. QUOTE (floridafan @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 04:29 AM) Two years for Grabe to move through the ranks. I like the Kepplinger deal, we saw a fair bit of him in the Florida market. A solid player. Glad he is older! If Grabe can come close to what he did in his debut season at subsequent levels you guys will learn his name. OPS over 1.000 against lefty's and over .900 against righty's. He has played 3rd his whole life, with stints at short. Power will be there by ST. Who is Grabe? What round did we get him in? Is he a future star? Ventura-ish or ? QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 05:13 AM) 1) you are HORRIBLE at evaluating baseball players (Kep averages 30ish strikeouts per full season of at bats. That's amazing) 2) Keppinger is VASTLY better than Brent Morel and isn't coming off a back injury Sorry to offend, but I studied his stats and I didn't see much pop in his bat for a corner infielder. I saw a guy I would not want on my fantasy team. He'd be great as a younger version of Old-mar. It's just my opinion. Don't get worked up. I'll support him on Opening Day. I just don't like him being the Sox starting third baseman. Don't think he deserves that role.
  20. Will they give Morel a chance to beat out this stiff? I think we'll all be clamoring for Morel if he's healthy.
  21. The worst thing about losing AJP if the Sox do indeed lose him, will be the games the Sox play against him. As we all know, he's an amazingly likeable player when he is on your team. His antics in the 2005 postseason were legendary as he did everything possible to help us win games. But I'm going to hate people on this board turning on AJ, especially if he signs in our division and we play 18 games against him. You know he's going to want to beat the Sox so badly and he's going to do crazy s*** that infuriates our fan base. I pray he goes to the Dodgers or somewhere in the NL where we only see him a couple games. I can't believe at this point of his career AJ doesn't want to give the Sox a discount and play here 2-3 more years, then hang up his glove and remain in Chicago as a broadcaster/media guy. You know he'd be perfect at that. He should be one of those guys like Buehrle that retires as a Sox. Don't you agree it's going to be so annoying on here seeing our fans burying AJP if we play him 18 times??? It's going to be dreadful.
  22. Not to always be negative, but isn't Keppinger another one of those guys you wouldn't dream of adding to your fantasy roster? Are we becoming the Baltimore Orioles (aside from last year) of the last 10 years? Isn't he a really bad option to get all those at bats as starting 3Bman?
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 02:14 AM) Greg I really have no idea how you can call Soria reliable at this point. Don't you think he'll be fine coming off the surgery? Most pitchers come back from that now, don't they?
  24. This thread begs the question of "what do the Sox need the most?" I would say it's not just in acquiring bodies. This is what we need the most in order to be a team that could finish 20 games over .500. Because of Flowers' great arm I won't say the Sox's biggest need is catcher. 1.) we need a third baseman who can hit and is able to field better than Youk, who was no Brent Morel with the glove. 2.) We need Floyd and Danks to be healthy all year long. The re-signing of Peavy means we do not have to acquire another starter if my first sentence comes true. 3.) We need Viciedo to emerge as a special hitter while repeating the year he had with the glove. We won't win anything with him being the Viciedo of last year. 4.) We need a reliable righthanded reliever, somebody named Joaquim Soria, although I realize that ship has sailed. Somebody just like Soria. Gotta get one. We also could use a reliever NOT NAMED Crain and Thornton, to become RELIABLE. I think our closer is fine for 3-4 more years until his arm falls off, the malady affecting most all closers. 5.) We need Beckham to hit better. There are too many nights our big boppers have pop-up-itis or strikeout itis. We just have to have a decent hitting second baseman to be legitimate contenders. Those are my list of needs for the team. I think they are fair.
  25. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 05:27 AM) cheating happens because people aren't HONEST with each other and play games. Maybe but I think cheating happens cause the cheating partner is a snake and wants sexual gratification with somebody new.
