QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 05:12 AM) Hope he gets Lillibridge back & dewayne wise for speed n versatility. Maybe he'll get a stud pitcher too. Perhaps King Felix & Sale could be a good start to the rotation for next year. Lilly's a good guy for throwing away that easy ground ball, but I think it's time for a new utility man. He's a flop.

I think the Sox would be doing handstands in joy if somebody would take Dunn and his contract off the Sox hands. Do you all at least agree on that?

Emily Post Question: I needed four tickets for the Kansas-Texas football game last week because I had friends coming in from Chicago for Homecoming. I made it my mission to find good seats that were free because, frankly, I'm not going to shell out a penny for Kansas football for gosh sakes. We're talking one of the worst programs in the country with awful fans. I ran into my rich car dealer one day, who is a big booster, and I asked him if he had four freebies to the Kansas-Texas game. He said yes and said to call him the week of the game. He ended up calling me the week of the game before I could call him and I went and picked up the freebies at the dealership. He even threw in a parking pass in a very convenient spot. The game came and went and my friends went to the game and had great seats (not that it matters for a Kansas football game). I was at the store buying some stuff and bought a thank you card and sent it to my car dealer. My question to you is: Was that a good thing to do, to send him a thank you card or was it nerdy and kind of unnecessary, unmanly so to speak? Believe it or not, the four tix were worth 320 bucks (for a Kansas football game, my god; 80 bucks a pop). I figured it would be nice to thank him with a card rather than just an email. So was it a bush league move or a good move to send him a thank you card? We know each other and I'd consider the car dealer an acquaintaince more than a friend. I have purchased 2 cars there in the past. As it turns out, I havent heard a peep from my friends who used the four tickets. I saw them tailgating and tailgated with them a while (I had to go to a couple diffrent tailgates, not just theirs) but no thanks for the tix from them. They had a lot of stuff planned so I didn't get to see them much all weekend. So what say you? Thank you cards? Or are they absurd?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) It's 8 times a day with the heavy stuff, with some other smaller pieces throughout the day. My back was shot after the first 40 piece pallet. As I've mentioned before (when talking about medical marijuana) I have a bad back from rugby and just being overall a pretty big guy for my whole life. So the bending, lifting, then bending to lay them down really took a toll on my back. My supervisor was right there when I was doing it and saw me grimace a few times and I told him about my back and he straight up told me "This isn't the job for you, we don't want you getting hurt. This isn't going to work out." It only paid 450 a week (8 an hour with a lot of OT). Benefits after 90 days so if my back goes out in those 90 days I'm kinda screwed It wasn't that hard at all, my arms weren't tired nor was I winded, my back was the only thing that couldn't take it. Eight bucks an hour for viciously difficult work. What are you going to do to put bread on the table in the future?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 03:58 AM) hah here i was not actually noticing that you're FROM Ireland. for some reason i had England in my head. my apologies. but i'll be honest, i got the expression from a Martin McDonagh play I did. yeah went as well as it could have really, and i oddly feel a whole lot better than i did before. it's amazing how getting questions answered and knowing they're also going through hell can help Glad it went well and you are content. Has she ever thanked her for getting her the f***ing job, though?? If she hasn't, I think she has some character issues and you are better off w/out her.

With the election allegedly pretty close to call, is it safe to say Obama actually blew it in the debates? If Obama loses, were the debates the key? He came across as kind of mean and sort of arrogant.
-
With a few days remaining, does Romney truly have a shot at this? I have a gut feeling that as bad as Obama is, Romney might be the worst president ever, even worse than Quayle would have been. And I'm a lifelong Republican saying this.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 02:35 AM) I haven't checked, but I recall Harrelson several times saying Dunn was hitting "important" home runs during the first half. He blasted so many when the game was close I'd rate his season a success despite the batting average. I'd actually give him a B but wouldn't be totally against an A-. Like I said though, I think he, like the rest of the hitters, sucked the last 2-3 weeks. Forgive me if I'm mistaken on that. I'd be more comfortable with a grade of B for Dunn, but wouldn't balk at A-. I still don't like him for some reason, though. Call me crazy.

Blogger Call: Open Discussion with Rick Hahn
greg775 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hahn comes across as a very impressive man in that interview. Very open if you read it closely he did say A LOT. Thank you Mr. Hahn. I applaud you. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Strikeouts stink but you can look at the numbers and see that Dunn is not an inadequate situational hitter (like driving in runner from 3B). I'd like to see him raise his average (why wouldn't I?), but a lot of us have problems with him because we spent our whole baseball careers trying not to strike out and not hit every ball to the pull side...and here's some guy that does that and makes millions of dollars. I don't mean that we're envious or anything like that, but his style of play is counter-intuitive to the way we were taught it. His production is flat out too difficult to replace if we are going to call 2011 an anomaly and 2012 a new norm. You can give me all the batting average (almost useless), OPS (nice for predicting run production) you want but when it comes down to it the guy was responsible for a ton of runs scoring last year and those runs are going to cost money if you are to be certain that they'll be replaced. That is a great post. He is the anti-me as far as how I was taught to hit.

The key to winning the division is winning divisional games which the Sox have a problem with. There are a lot of good minds on this site. How bout you telling me a formula to win such games. You can't be confident that this same team is going to have any better luck in the division next year. It figures to be more of the same. That said ... Does Hahn just ignore that issue and put together the best team possible or does he develop a plan as to how to build a team that is best equipped to win the division? Cannot he analyze the best type of team to win divisional games? The Sox I think we can all agree are going nowhere (over .500 anyway) if they do not build a team equipped to compete against KC, Detroit, Cleveland and Minnie. So what do they need to win those games?? That is the question. It seems to me Buehrle had a lot of success in divisional games. Do we need more crafty pitchers instead of power pitchers? Do we need speed rather than power?? I contend the key to success is beating your divisional foes and last year we were horrible against all but Minnie. This should be the emergency meeting plan at the Cell. How to construct a roster that will win 75 percent of the divisional games???

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) Or if he just has a winning season he'll stay. Ozzie won't be in the MLB for 3 years. It nullifies his contract and $7.5M. He doesn't love the game enough for that. Wow. Ozzie will be forgotten in 3 years. He better get a good hobby going. Maybe he can be paid in cash and just count the bills for the next 3 years. He probably needs English lessons to get a job announcing. No work for Oz. He should open a bar and grill downtown.

No way they would take Floyd and Q for Moose. I think it'd take Floyd, Danks and Beckham or Floyd, Danks and Q for Moose. And KC doesn't have the money to pay those players.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 02:18 AM) Oh please, the Tigers were better than the Sox and they were better than the other post season teams in the AL. The Giants beat them with pitching. How often is a staff good enough were a former CY winner is in the pen-who happen to look wicked. I disagree. The Tigers were on life support 3 different times where the team could beat nobody that didn't wear a White Sox uniform. Sox had chances to put that team away and never could do it. Do you remember the LONG STRETCH where Detroit could beat nobody but the Sox?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) That Girardi guy did pretty well... Good point. That gives me hope a team like the Royals might wise up and give Ozzie a chance. IMO he would do wonders with young players.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) I give him 2 years As long as he acts professional, sucks up to Loria and his minions and never cusses, he should be fine. It's pretty darn obvious Ozzie did not play the game and bother sucking up to Loria and after the dressing down to the media, bye bye Ozzie. I wonder if Ozzie will go manage in Japan. It's going to be tough for him to get a managerial job again after being Loria-ized. Or will Ozzie agree to be a bench coach somewhere?

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) I'm with Greg on this. I don't hate Dunn, I'm glad he had a massive comeback, and he seems like an ok guy. I just hate that style of play. I used to say the same thing about Thome and I'd get eviscerated here but there it is. If he's back, fine. If he's not, I won't be sad about it. He's another one of those guys a team has to have and celebrates the signing in the offseason, then spends the rest of his contract trying to trade him. Makes no sense to pay these guys this kind of cash. Look at Santana of the Angels. They were desperate to get rid of that salary. here's a hint owners: Just don't sign them in the first place for absurd amounts of money. Too late for that, though. So we're in the era there are 80 home games a year and most fans can afford to go to one or two of them. Great.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) OK, greg, you're either a troll or the dumbest baseball fan on this board. I'll let you decide which that is. Nobody with any sense actually thinks that Morel is a viable option for 2013. You're complaining about Beckham's .694 career OPS but are willing to live with Morel's .612 career OPS from an easier defensive position? You need to take a break from posting and go back to troll school. You must have missed the class on avoiding contradicting yourself. Morel is a great defensive player. I'd be willing to give him one more chance if his back is cleared as healthy. The main portion of my post was how I didn't want Youk. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) Moustakas is 2 years younger than Beckham. Offensively, he seems to have the same issues as Gordon. Low average, strikes out, a lot, hits homers, rarely walks. Just another case of Sox fans finding someone else with the same issues as a Sox player as someone who will easily overcome them while the Sox player is garbage with no chance to succeed. I guess what I'm saying is, if you think Beckham is nothing but crap, if you're being logical, you really can't think too much of Moustakas. If you think Beckham should have been traded long ago, trading for his mirror image offensively makes no sense. Great post. I'd avoid trading with the Royals anyway. No good can come of that.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) The Dunn hate is and always will be mind boggling to me. The White Sox should trade Dunn and then what? They would be looking for another LH power bat to replace him with. Some of the people that post on this board don't deserve to see a winning team. Dunn's .OBP was down last year and he will always strike out a ton. But 40 + HR's annually and over 100 walks is something that is not given enough credit on this board and in most places. People need to get over the fact that their eyes tell them that a strikeout is the worst thing in the world. All the bad players that have come through town and people hate the guy that will end his career near 600 homers. I don't personally hate Dunn and don't sense hatred per se on here. He contributed to a lot of wins last year, both halves. I'm thinking he stunk down the stretch as did most of our players/pitchers. I just don't like his style. I never understood why these big brutes never try to hit to all fields. That shift victimized him a lot. And personally his strikeouts are annoying. I don't hate him and applaud him for his game winning type hits last year but I wish he'd go far away.
-
Youk stunk down the stretch and he's not getting any younger. Let him go. Is there any way Morel can play next year with the bad back? I'd go with him.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 03:23 AM) Saying Adam Dunn is untradeable is just plain wrong. Would the Cubs want him? That Wrigley Field is still kinda tiny and he proved he can play first base OK.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) just let him go, oldsox wants every opportunity to complain about management decisions, whether it makes sense or not Just as an aside to improve the board: A post like this is one that I call a "thread derailer." You went after a poster so it tends to spur discussion that has nothing to do with the topic at hand: Peavy. Just a lesson for the moderators to consider how they can derail the threads at hand. I'm done with the topic now. Adios. Must go to work.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) I actually appreciate a lot of the conversation on this site, and dont consider it fantasyland at all. It keeps me sane reading how people approach thier lives on this board, because it is much more than just the White Sox. People give me s*** just as much as I do to them, I dont mind. Sometimes it is aggravating, but most people can be very supportive of their opposite opinions and make them easy to understand why they feel the opposite way I do. You may treat it as fantasy, that doesnt mean everyone else does. I think your above comment is presidential-debatish. I call u on it. I wouldn't say you are supportive of my opposite opinions at all. I think a lot of people just try to shrug me off their shoulder like an unwanted flea. But I don't care because what does it matter, really? If I didn't want to be educated I wouldn't post on here at all. I enjoy the commentary.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) You only notice it because i do it about you. Mostly because you are predictable. DO YOU DENY ME and oldsox takes shots at Sox management frequently. I don't know why u notice or care. It's just fantasy land, the internet message board world where we all post our opinions right or wrong.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) Lol yes, my sad sad life continues. My back couldn't take lifting 40 75 pound airplane parts of the ground and apparently thats what the job is like all day. Boss mam said if youre back couldnt take that I'm gonna have to let you go before you hurt yourself. Man, that's tough labor. How can anybody pick up boxes for 8 hour shifts day after day? How much does a job like that pay anyway? Is there a supervisor around as well? There are some tough jobs in the world; that sounds like a tough one mentally and physically.I'd think you'd have to go to a 2 week Boot Camp to get in shape to have a shot at a job like that.
