  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) This is his year to put up or shut up. He's a non-tender otherwise with Carlos Sanchez nipping at his shoes. Tell us about Sanchez? Is he good? Where'd we get him, etc? I'm ready for a new 2B era to begin in Chicago if Becks has another blah season.
  2. Hahn has a lot of work to do. Will he sign Peavy? AJ? Will he break up the team? I could see him immediately announcing that he's going young with the roster.

    Job Hunt Thread

Here's a question: We all have our soxtalk personalities. I know many of you hate my position on Ozzie Guillen and some former Sox players and my style of posting. My question is: If you were a business owner and I applied for a job at your company, would you reject me because of things I post on soxtalk. Just curious to see if this fantasy world message board relates to real life as well. Would Greg be eliminated as a job candidate because of a message board?? Thank u for responding.
  4. Why do many of you want the Giants to win? Detroit is in the gawddam AL, which is our league. WTF is wrong with some people? I do not get it. AL pride??? Some of you assume the AL is the better league. Then let's win the gawddam world series???!!!!!! And it might soften up the Tigers for next season as well.
  5. Isn't Beckham an average major league baseball player? If you want average, he's your guy.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) What exactly is embarassing? Losing a glorified exhibition game that no one gives a s*** about? Do you think players take pride in their league every year come WS time? Gimme a break, half of them probably don't even watch. Let me know when one of you is scheduled to call Les Grobstien's show about this AL-NL issue. He will eat you alive, or try to if you say the AL is totally dominant.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 05:51 AM) Yeah, it's pretty clear the AL is the superior league. Then it might help winning the WS or all star game once every so often. It's pretty embarrassing.
  8. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 03:57 AM) Not that anybody cares about the Marlins anymore that Oz is gonzo...scuttlebutt our here is GONZO (Luis Gonzalez) might get a look. He's the polar opposite of Ozzie. Great baseball mind, great with media, Cuban.... He sounds great. Robin has proven you don't need a lifelong baseball guy to be a winning manager. More teams are going to turn to ex players. That's why the Royals should have hired Frank White long ago. Idiots.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) Like Ozzie did multiple times? Including last year when he asked for an extension on his current deal? You are such a hypocrite I said that topic was controversial as well.
  10. Aside from my love of Ozzie and others' hatred of him, the other thing I disagree the most with people on this site is NL vs the AL. Many of you yearly act as if the NL is some sort of inferior league. You dismiss pitchers' performances in the NL, acting as if NL pitchers would suck in the AL. Well, it looks like for the third year in a row, the NL is going to win the World Series. The NL is not some weak doormat, folks. Maybe Detroit will come back and win, but Detroit got boatraced tonight and the NL AGAIN looks highly competitive vs. the AL. I'm sick of all this talk that the NL sucks. Do you people have any proof the NL is inferior??? I say the two leagues are the same.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Ozzie Guillen's record last six seasons - 475-496 (.489) Ozzie Guillen's teams' average payroll last six seasons - $113,000,000 /evidence Fair enough. In your guys' opinion who IS a good manager. I'm thinking there are no good managers out there under your guys' criteria.
  12. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) So if you agree with that post, why do you think Ozzie deserved another year? If anything, the Marlins are saving him from himself. I imagine he's going to have a tough time finding another managerial job as it is. If he were to have 2 more years like the one he just had, he wouldn't be able to land a job managing the Bad News Bears. Cause he signed a four-year deal. Getting rid of a guy after one year is kind of brash. Now if they blamed it on the Castro thing, I guess that's fine to axe him after one.
  13. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Granted I only listen after a win so I may not see the dbag side of him but I find him enjoyable....He's your typical new yorker, that new york accent may make everything sound douchey....I've got family from NY that visits every other year, I got an uncle who reminds me a lot of him. Cooper doesn't come across as a saint in crawling to the owner or GM to save his own hide during the end of the Oz regime though I realize that is a controversial topic, too.
  14. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) I don't know what kind of job you do but next year I think you should seriously under-perform your expectations, cuss out your co-workers, declare that you don't do all that much besides sleep and play on your ipad and at the end of the year call out your boss on what a horrible job he is doing. Then report back with the results. Excellent post. I do disagree that he cussed OUT his coworkers. He cussed around them a lot. He did call out his boss and got canned for it. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) The Marlins looked like a 85-88 win team on paper and a lot of projection systems had them around those win totals. I ran an aggregate of all projection systems and I remember the Marlins were projected to win 87 games and clinched the 2nd wild card. Just admit it, Ozzie was handed a pretty good team and shat all over it. Remember when they were awesome in May? That's what this team could have been. Instead, Ozzie lost control of the team in June and they crapped the bed badly. Same old s***, different toilet. I respect your work on the projections. I don't see how he "lost control of the team" any more than Robin did (and he didn't) during the stretches where the Sox sucked. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) How can he love Bobby Jenks so much if he's b****ing that Bell reported in fat and out of shape? Jenks did that almost every year with the Sox. I may be unfair in calling Bell "fat" so much, but I don't respect Bell. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) So let me get the basis of your "Greg logic" Team does good, wins division or WS = Ozzie is a magician and he motivated the team and is the sole reason the team won. Couldn't be replicated by another manager. Team does bad, loses division = The damn GM, Owner, Coop, weather, and other excuses were the reason that the team lost. If Ozzie couldn't win, no one could. 2+2=7 in your world. Whatever you are employing as logic does not work. It is just a mancrush on a manager. Just admit it and we can move on. I am a fan of the WhiteSox, not a manager or a player. I never said those things about him being a magician or the only guy who could have won the WS (though nobody else in modern Sox history has come close to winning a WS cept in 59 with Al Lopes or whomever the manager was; and that 59 team didn't exactly set the WS on fire). Let me make this clear: He is NOT the only reason the team won in '05; he was not out there throwing all those complete games and getting clutch hits. He was NOT the only reason, not by far. I am saying BECAUSE of the fact he was in charge in 05 I do love the guy, yes I do. And if you see my track record I pretty much support every player on that team, too. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) Just so we are aware, I am no longer going to talk about Ozzie Guillen on this website unless it comes up organically and is not disputing how terrible he is. Like, I might talk about him, but I'm not doing this anymore. At this point, I believe masturbation is more productive than continuing this argument with greg because then atleast I feel good (or shameful and guilty, depending on what I watched) afterwards. This is nothing more than aggrivating. So I'm going to end it with this: OZZIE GUILLEN IS A HORRIBLE MANAGER The end There is absolutely no evidence at all he is a "horrible manager." Did he suck this past season? Yes. But so did many other facets of that team. I don't see why so many of you cannot do one thing that would make me very happy. Just say, "I thank Ozzie Guillen and the players for '05. I wish it would have worked out better his final year in Chicago. I really don't care what happens in Miami and I truly wish Ozzie Guillen the best." Why not take that route? From everything I've read, he's a nice guy and doesn't treat fans badly, etc. So why not take the high road and wish him well.
  15. No questions about parking, but I like the Great America comparison. Baseball to families is a once a summer outing in many instances. Makes sense. It used to be something you did all the time. Those days are over in all cities.
  16. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) C'mon man, you asked me how old I was before now I wanna turn the tables, how old are you??? It's childish to think the front office "deserves an F". Heath Bell- All Star the previous 3 years, best closer in the NL in '10 and '11 Jose Reyes- Batting Title the previous year. Mark Buehrle- A god in your book How in the world can you say the front office deserves an F for adding those guys? Mark did great. Bell let the fans down by reporting fat and lousy. Reyes was fine. Ozzie deserved more than one year.
  17. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:37 PM) It's unbelievable how you keep trying to pin the blame on the ownership for this. Ozzie has nobody to blame but himself. Think of all the great current and past managers in MLB and see how many of them acted the way Ozzie did/does. I'm betting you won't be able to find any. Miami should be ashamed of itself giving him one year and ruining his career. One fricking year?? All because of Loria's ego. Loria got called out by an underling. Grow up, Loria. He does get the last laugh ruining Ozzie's career, but Ozzie gets a laugh too. If he invests that money properly he's set for life and so are his kids.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) Bell was a successful closer until he got to Guillen. Another big veteran who failed under Guillen. "Big" veteran is right. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) Greg let me just tell you that Ozzie's managerial career is OVAH! I am sorry but it is true. If you think after this debacle that any manager would want a part of this headcase, you're sadly mistaken. I wish the Royals would hire him. You are right though. The Miami Marlins ended the career of a WS winning manager probably. Amazing. Dombroski might hire him, though, if he likes him. Or maybe Hahn. It will take a guy with a White Sox background.Think of the resume about to go to waste because of Loria. Be honest and assess a grade to Ozzie Guillen's career. With White Sox - I give him A-, considering history of franchise and what he did. With Marlins - D.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) They brought in Bell, Buehrle, and Reyes. Reyes and Buehrle had good seasons. Everybody knew the Bell signing was bad, but that doesn't even come close in explaining how the Marlins had the second worst offense in the NL. In looking back, would you rather have had the Marlins' roster or 3-4 of the other teams' in that division? Marlins are run by a moron in Loria and his yes men minions. Ozzie either is a moron for taking that job in the first place or a genius knowing he'd be fired and get all that money for doing nothing. Now we know why he wanted 4 years.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) World Series had nothing to do with it, and is a pointless exaggeration. He took a 72 win team that added 4 big free agents, and made it worse. His former team lost three big players, and got 6 games better. Those are direct measurable items that can be traced back to the manager. Will I admit he failed this season? Sure. He deserves a D. But his front office deserves an F. They brought in Bell. As far as the Sox ... yeah they were improved, but Robin also engineered an epic epic collapse down the stretch. It was sick and sad. I don't understand your guys' venom toward Ozzie. He is who he is. An entertaining, ego driven nut, which is kind of cool in this day and age of say-nothingness political correctness. Now that he's leaving the public eye, why not just like him as I do? And I wish Robin the best. I never ripped him half as bad as many others in the game threads.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) So you believe Ozzie doesn't deserve much credit for 2005 anyway, since it's the players that play? Interesting point greg, I'm sure many here agree with you. I think the 05 players deserve the most credit and for the most part I've been very loyal to them as well. But Oz was the manager so I tend to want to thank/praise him a lot as well. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) You only think that now, at the beginning of the season you thought they were very good and favorites. Only because everybody else was saying that. I didn't know much about the team. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) How is that? This is a team that added about half a billion dollars worth of all-star players, and got three games worse. The team Ozzie left lost three big players, and ended up six games better. What do those have in common? The worse teams had Guillen as a manager, despite having much more talent then the former team. Miami added a few players but tell me you think that team had WS champ written all over it? One thing is for sure, Ozzie is going away, far away out of the public eye and you guys that dislike him have it made. I mean he'll have absolutely no forum anymore so he gawn. We're not going to hear much if anything from Ozzie Guillen (except for any upcoming stories re. his Miami firing) for years to come unless some team hires him as manager like the Jays or Rockies.
  22. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 06:11 AM) 1. It gets old. 2. In the heavily Cuban Miami that's just a stupid, stupid thing to say. It's that kind of stupidity/lack of thinking before he speaks that will keep him out of the booth. 3.That fatboy closer was coming of 3 straight all star seasons including back to back Rolaids Relief Awards...at around the same size. 4.They ADDED Carlos Lee, team still sucked somehow, then they traded and gave up, it was useless. 5. It wasn't just the comments on Loria that got him fired but I'm sure it was the straw that broke the camels back. 6. Loria gave him a SOLID team that should have no doubt been a contender, many experts thought that. But Buehrle must be awful because Loria brought him in right? 1.) Why does the cussing get old? I still say Loria is a hypocrite for laughing his butt off at the F bombs and loving Oz's personality before all the losing began. 2.) Maybe, but I don't think he's said crazy things in as studio host. 3.) Can you deny Heath Bell loafed in the offseason to get that lousy? 4.) The Miami players failed. Again this is a case of assessing too much blame to a manager. Players play. 5.) I think Loria was pissed he got called out by a guy who was supposed to be afraid of the big, bad owner. 6.) Loria didn't give him a solid team. Bell was a critical piece who was a joke. Lotta bums in that clubhouse, but one stud admittedly in Mark. They don't need Buehrle now in rebuilding. We have pieces to trade. Get him back IMO.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:03 AM) He's talking about me buddy Quintana is 23 Happy Birthday? How are your physical problems? You OK these days/weeks?
  24. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 05:11 AM) 1. 5. Loria gave him a SOLID team that should have no doubt been a contender, many experts thought that. But Buehrle must be awful because Loria brought him in right? Finally. Somebody answers each of my points! Thank you! QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 05:30 AM) I personally think greg is reveling in his newfound celebrity. He's become the most popular person on the board. Even moreso than the awful kalapse. greg doesn't really care for ozzie THIS much. oh and q, happy late b-day. i saw that you had just turned 20 but was too drunk too send a pm. Is Q only 20? Really? Quintana? Much younger than I thought. I don't care about popularity. I'm loyal to Ozzie for what he did for me (Sox). He made my happy in 2005, mighty happy.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 04:27 AM) What about it? Loria being a bad owner had no influence on Ozzies bad behavior. The guy was handed an unearned contract, a new stadium, a competitive team and he managed to burn down everything around himself immediately. I don't think his behavior was that bad. 1.) Loria laughed his butt off during the first meeting, counting Ozzie's F-bombs in the spring training speech. Loria thought it was funny. His ill-put together team sucked so now Ozzie is unprofessional cussing. Hmmmmm. You Oz haters: Please comment specifically on this point. Richboy Loria LAUGHED his ass off during Ozzie's first expletive-riddled speech to the team. Watch it on youtube. You tell me he's not a hypocrite??? 2.) Ozzie "loves" Castro. Very ill advised statement even though he explained what he meant. 3.) Heath Bell. Big fatboy out of shape after getting a big contract. Ozzie supported him all the way. Bell is a disgrace to baseball getting all fat like that and sucking just cause he had a great contract. 4.) Marlins trade everybody and give up. Ozzie didn't make a peep the second half of the year til the end when he yapped about Loria. 5.) Ozzie blasts Loria. Bye bye Ozzie. You gawn. But it was a deserved comment, putting the richboy owner in his place. It got Ozzie fired, but Loria can't take away the money Ozzie gets for NO WORK. So in Ozzie's mind he wins. He doesn't have to work a day for that crummy owner and gets the same amount of money he would have had he worked every day. 6.) Ozzie talks about his money and getting fired a lot and how he doesn't care: Who cares? That's another thing that wouldn't matter if the team was winning. He always talked like that in Chicago. Ozzie is the scapegoat for the lousy season. Whoever put together that awful team should be the scapegoat. And Loria was the guy who wanted Heath Bell. Hilarious. Loria should fire himself. What a clown. Moral of story: Will ozzie manage the White Sox again? If Jerry lives 20 more years ... yes. First thing Sox should do: Trade for Buehrle and bring him home. Trade Quintana and Morel for Mark and have Miami pay most of the contract. Or trade Quintana and Beckham for Mark.
