QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) Oh come on now, I think we all know that this is another greg account. Ozzie statue? Check. Stacked sentences? Check. Name#? Check. Being shocked at how quickly people forgot the great Ozzie? Check. Rest assured I have nothing to do with the new account. Besides I've not been stacking my paragraphs for months now. Once in a while I forget but I've been posting differently.

It's all good (news). Even dropping parking from 23 to 20 is smart. You flip them a 20 dollar bill; what's with the extra 3 bucks? Now the Sox should publicize all this A LOT. Forget marketing slogans; just talk about prices; even compare them to Cubs prices if they have to, but get the word out. Maybe even a mass mailing to anybody who has ever bought a ticket that they have on file. It should be all over their webpage as well all offseason.

I went to Noodles tonight with former coworker who just broke up with his girlfriend of two years. He took her to Aruba for to attend a buddy's wedding a few months ago and apparently she thought he would propose there in the romantic setting. It was business as usual so to speak with fun, but no proposal. She told him she would have accepted. She told him she was offended he recently re-upped his apartment lease for another year without even asking her if she might want to live together. He told her that if she reconsidered and stayed with him she would have a ring within a year. She said the whole scenario offended her and she didn't feel the romance and ended it. This guy told me he wanted to call his ex's dad and talk to him about the breakup and thank him for being so supportive the last year or so on outings n stuff. I told him it's not a good idea to call the dad. I told him at the very least to wait a few weeks. I actually told him to email the dad but he thinks it's not personal enough. I told him to forget the dad. Dads are totally behind their daughters and won't want to talk behind their backs to a guy the daughter dropped. Do you think he should call the dad? Should he try to get her back or chalk the two years up to fate. She's 24; he's 28. My take is it is very rare to date somebody more than 2 years with out a marriage proposal. Unless you find the rare woman who doesn't want to get married you are going to have to buy her a ring or have happen to you what happened to my former coworker.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) The one and only bit of relationship advice I can give: You should probably look for relationship advice somewhere other than a baseball message board. I'm guessing that as a group, we suck at relationships. i dunno. I think I have common sense in regard to such matters.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) I think whenpeople say "tix are too expensive", they really mean "lower deck tix are too expensive" Too many lower level snobs. Upper deck tix with a code were as low as $7 thi year yet the upper deck was half empty. That's probably a pretty good point. I know when I go to a game I don't wanna sit in the upper tank. Hey here's a good one for you. I have some friends coming up from Chicago to go to the Kansas-Texas football game. No way I am going to pay money for Kansas football tickets for god sakes with the stands half full. So my rich car dealer, a very nice guy, gave me four tickets for the game. I looked at the ticket and they are 80 bucks a pop. Can you imagine??? Kansas football. 80 bucks a ticket. My car dealer gave me 320 bucks of goods for free. Nice guy, but my god, how could anybody pay 80 bucks to go see a Kansas football game!?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Yeah, it's probably over the top. I deserve what I have coming to me Why not just kill it? Your other posts are usually pretty good.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) I think there's truth in this. Can you really expect people to pay $25-100 on a ticket plus parking plus food on something that happens 162 times over a 6 months span? I understand football being expensive as there are less than twenty games a year. I always think the media is talking to me when they complain about attendance, but I always attend a handful of games each year. How much are we expected to attend? Am I really the problem or are they only targeting people that go to zero? We talk about prices like they're a one-time expense, but don't we really need a bunch of people going to a lot of games to improve attendance? If you want someone to go to ten games, you're asking for several hundred dollars. Now, if you're taking a family of four, you're talking potentially thousands. Great post. I think the Sox would be thrilled in this economy to have a fan like you go to "a handful" of games a year.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) If it looks like s***, and it smells like s***, and it's coming from Ozzie...then I'd bet $100 it's on greg's tongue too. I don't want to be a dick, but the fact this post has not been killed after being up here for days really says something about the mods' inconsistencies, IMO. I mean what is goin on? I like witesoxfan's posts a lot of the time, but I have a feeling if I wrote that post I'd be suspended. I'm sure the mods are good people who work hard but I personally feel they missed one there. It is not conducive to good family discussion. To the Ozzie haters, I mean isn't life better that there's one vocal Ozzie supporter on soxtalk? How boring life would be if everybody agreed Ozzie was evil. People disagree in this world, even if it's just one lone voice versus 1,000. It's a good lesson for kids on this board. Stick to your beliefs. I think the guy is a great manager and funny as hell. If he sucked this year, who cares? It wasn't our team. It was the Marlins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) That has been pretty well blown out of the water too. Outside of a couple of series, there were pretty much always cheap tickets available somewhere. I think baseball generally is so unaffordable for the average Joe that it's just not an option anymore. People don't take the effort to hunt for the cheaper tickets. They've just pretty much eliminated baseball as an entertainment option. It would take several seasons of reduced prices to make a dent in that. Even if a college kid and his buddies in suburbia or a dad and his wife and kids wanted to search for deals on tickets, they still are looking at parking costs and food and drink. After years of not wanting to do that, it's just been crossed off their 'to-do' list for summertime fun. Maybe suck it up and go to one game a year, whereas many years ago, the same people might have gone to 10-30 games cause it was fun and affordable back then. If I were the Sox, I'd cut parking to 10 bucks all of next season, take a bath on that, do a heavy advertising campaign on how the Sox are making an effort to work with their fans during the depression. Instead of "appreciate the game" do a whole marketing thing on reduced parking. I think a lot of people would rather be hit in the head with a hammer than pay more than 20 bucks to park their car. Maybe that doesn't matter to the Sox, but like caufield wrote, good luck when these older rich fans die and these younger kids are the older people and have never gone to baseball games. I think baseball attendance will pretty much die in the next 20-30 years because of the economy. It won't die as a sport because of the rich TV deals.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) They spent 120 days in first place. No one had any idea in April/May/June/July/August and the first two weeks of September that this team would run out of gas during the last two weeks of September. The whole "win and people show up" myth is busted as far as I am concerned. I don't know if I'd call what the Sox did this year, "win." They floated about 8-10 over .500 and won five in a row; lost five in a row a lot. Depending on when you caught them, they were 'winning' some yeah. Also losing a lot.

That's an interesting, yet well written sentence. Did you slug the guy? I didn't understand it. Where do you get the money for all the marijuana? Just curious. It's got to cost something.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) Suicide has been a thought, but nothing more than a silly thought...The stupid things I spoke of are going to to this guys house and beatin some ass (I obviously know where he lives because I dropped her off there everyday) or "stalking" her and making her life hell until she gave me a restraining order or I got thrown in jail. Posting here on soxtalk takes my mind off stupid thoughts like that. It sounds like I'm overblowing this and I probably am, but she ruined a lot of what was good in my life. I was a pretty popular guy and then I met her and we chilled everyday and I ditched all my friends. Pretty much right now the only friends I can go back to are my stoner friends and with me needing a job I've been layin off the trees. Thats the worst part of the whole thing...I'm over her for the most part its the loss of so many friends that f***in blows....I feel like a nobody now.... But ya actually since I posted that first comment about giving up I decided to hit up a few girls who've showed interest in me in the past and we're staying in touch now...nothins gonna happen till i get a job though. That thought about beating the guy up brought back memories. Back in high school, my friend wanted a girl badly and she was dating another guy. My friend's dad was a badass and told my buddy to go threaten the guy. So my friend told me to get in his car and we drove to the guy's house, he knocked on the door and threatened the guy. The guy was scared and said my friend could have his girl. My friend ended up with the girl. Ah, high school. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Lol theres not much life I can live right now with no job....Having weed in my system is a legit, albeit a dumb, excuse I have right now as far as a job goes and me going out and living life. Will being a security guard pay well? Will it be hard to get a job?

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Ahhhhh some of you guys need to sack up. The single life is the free life. You can do what you want, when you want, how you want. You can spend your own self-made money wherever you want. Get married, that goes straight down the s***ter! If you're still moping after 2-3 years, you probably should talk to someone. No broad is worth that crap. LOL. This reminds me of a Three Stooges episode, The Woman Haters Club. Single life is great, but you can still keep an open mind. If in the process of meeting women in bars or other venues, you come across one who is special, you keep an open mind about maybe marrying her. I'd say best case scenario is get a good job, date around, don't settle and when you find a really special girl get her to marry you. Preferably around the age of 28-29. Get married between 26 and 28.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) The only time she treated me bad was when she left me, for the 3 years we were together we were perfect. She was literally perfect for me, we did everything I love to do together and now its all kinda tainted. For the past 2 years I've never been in a position to really want to pursuea lady, so my whole "I give up on relationships" will most certainly change when I finally get a job. In those 2 years I've been unemployed for all but 7 months, and those 7 months were spent at a condo building filled with gorgeous women so Id rather check them out and not have to feel guilty about them. As far as being unemployed goes, I don't want a girl while I'm unemployed, I don't wanna be a deadbeat boyfriend. But all that hasn't stopped me from thinking about her constantly. Second, I think we've all been there. You said being on soxtalk prevented you from doing something stupid to your life. I hope you weren't planning suicide. I know it sucks to break up but listen, it is true that there are tons of women out there. Some nice ones as well as hot ones. Once you get a job you will have to get out to meet them, however, or do the online dating thing. Good luck, but seriously, f*** that girl that broke up with you. She's not worthy of you. Think of it that way ... seriously. If she dumped you, she is the one not worthy. f*** her. Bye bye. Look at it this way if you had 3 years of bliss and she suddenly drops you, she could do that after you have a child or two after marriage. Just forget about her. If you can't do that, get some help. Best way to forget her is to get some new women.

Who are you rooting for in 2012 MLB Playoffs?
greg775 replied to justBLAZE's topic in The Diamond Club
Amazing how the Tigers played like dogs all season until the end when we gave it to them on a platter. Now they turn it on big time in the postseason. Yes I hope they complete the deal, then really get lazy and complacent this offseason and hopefully we'll beat them out next year. -
Well this proves we could have had a magical postseason. This coulda been the White Sox. Frick.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 12:11 AM) At the moment? Are you kidding? In 1958 the Colts and Giants had that epic overtime championship game. Between that time and the first Super Bowl (Janurary 15, 1967) football passed baseball and never looked back. It's not even close now in this country. I'm just weird, I guess, but I give pro football a chance and I watch it on TV and I see all these short passes to running backs and bullets up the middle at breakneck speed. I just find it a bore. I prefer a good high school football game No. 1, followed by college football before the NFL. I realize I'm in the vast vast minority. I just love MLB baseball except the umps' small strike zone drives me absolutely insane.

Well that's just great, Brooks. You don't want working class Mt. Greenwood families to come to your games. That's just great. The Sox are happy with the 15,000 fat cats that attend the games. Or wait, the 15,000 fat cats who have tickets and either don't go to the games or spend most of their work days trying to give away their tickets.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) It's also the fifth straight day with a game and three of the previous games went to extra innings. Their $200 million lineup is not hitting, at least 3 regulars are getting booed every time they come up. I think the fanbase is just over it at the current moment. There were hundreds of tickets on StubHub available for $25 or less today. If it was just about the money, all those tickets would be scooped up in a second. Tourists who happen to be in New York are crazy to not buy those 25 buck seats.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 05:24 AM) The problem Chicago has is that the people who sympathize with the gangs (it still blows my mind that people like this exist) and the people who profit off them make up more than 50% of the cities population. So, nothing will ever get done, the cops will have to keep using kid gloves and the liberals will cherish the wonderful diversity that is literally tearing the city to pieces. It really is only going to get easier on the gangs as time goes on and we find all sorts of things to blame while overlooking the real problem: this city has been f***ed, is currently f***ed and will continue to get more f***ed because we've continued to believe that in order to unf*** it we just have to do more of the f***ed policies than got us so f***ed in the first f***ing place. Over 50 percent? Wow. Then Chicago is truly a gang town. No wonder we have all these murders. It sounds like the future of Chicago is very very bleak. Is the entire South Side going to be a cesspool in 20 years?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) The Yankees not selling out postseason games and the Sox attendance problems have a lot in common. Both teams have old cores that their fans have tired of. In other words, it's time to find good young players. BTW, the Jets game against the Texans Monday night had higher ratings than the Yankees/O's playoff game locally. Maybe New Yorkers hate the Yankees, but I'd think people would want to go to ALCS games in the Big Apple. To have that many empty seats, row after row of empty seats, to me is all about money.
