First thing you do is trade Rios and Dunn. It pains me to add Paulie to that list but I guess I could be convinced all three should go. I am of the opinion Rios and Dunn remain untradeable. Nobody wants all those Dunn K's and nobody is gonna touch Rios with the proverbial 10 foot pole only because of the cost involved. They make too much loot. If some team is dumb enough to take them off your hands, then you got some money to talk about a significant rebuild. If you can't get rid of them you can't do much money wise with the roster. Just my opinion. So in summary see what the market is for Rios and Dunn and gulp, maybe Paulie.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) The team collapsed under pressure and has been doing so for 6 years. Last night truly proved supported the position of those who say the Sox choked or folded under pressure. The game didn't matter so they hit the s*** out of the ball with runners in scoring position. The troublesome thing is Robin had fixed this the first half. However now we're back to jinxed Sox baseball. He's coming back so I would expect the choking will continue again next year when it matters. Enjoy the next two games, however, they are meaningless so Sox prolly will excel.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 05:59 AM) Please elaborate. We don't trust Quintana/Santiago/Humber to take 2 rotation spots. We'd rather get a good veteran not named Guthrie. -
QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:32 AM) No doubt this is a big disappointment, we lost many winnable games over the last two weeks with sloppy play and no clutch hitting...it may be a while before we get this close to the playoffs again if we have the type of off-season I am expecting. It should be very interesting. Do they re-tool or all-out tear it up? I would think the first thing Hahn will do is see if anybody wants Dunn/Rios. If nobody wants them, there's probably going to be more re-tooling, not rebuilding. If they can trade those guys, look out. It'll be a radical rebuild.

Good column by Rogers mentioning it's time for Kenny to go and the key is to find a way to draw fans to the Cell next season. It's a fair column. Kenny deserves our everlasting thanks for 05, like Ozzie. Kinda funny that both bow out with a whimper. It's a shame the Sox could not build on 05. Oh I wish we could go back in time and try it again. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...olumn?dssReturn

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 05:10 AM) I don't trust the Quintanas/Stantiagos/Humbers to grab the remaining 2 spots of a Sale/Danks/Floyd rotation. The 3 of them can compete for the 5th spot. Good post. I don't trust them either. You got big problems if those guys take up 2 rotation spots. Problem is some team probably will give Jake three years 15-20 million a year. I sure hope the Sox don't sign Guthrie or Chen. Gawd that would piss me off. They are not good pitchers just cause they beat the Sox, Kenny. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 05:04 AM) Seeing the highlights of the Tigers winning and celebrating pissed me off so much. That should have been the Sox. Couldn't beat the f***ing Royals. So many times the Tigers were begging to get buried. It wasn't their year, but Sox definitely helped make it their year. Losing 8 of 9 in the final two weeks is so sorry that it's laughable. Maybe next year. -
QUOTE (Real @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:20 AM) what's more hilarious is some of the people here thinking this team actually had a chance in the playoffs Judging how the Sox choked in "big game after big game" down the stretch, your point is well taken. However a lot of us were counting on the fact anything can happen in the postseason: Dunn might go on a tear; Paulie's wrist might magically feel better; the starters might get on a roll. Who knew that in the last couple weeks we'd become one of the bottom feeders of all of baseball? Of course, playing like this we had no chance in the playoffs. But could Sale or Peavy have been a strong 1-2 in each playoff series?? Maybe.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:15 AM) It is ovah. We can grab some bench. Fun season Just a bad ending. Let coop manage the last two. No reason to start peavy or Floyd Hopefully we get better in 2013 and beat the Tiggs and Royal flushes You got to start Peavy; he might get mad if Sox don't start him. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:12 AM) Just do not see it they play like s*** way too often................Sox laid down like b****es and gave division to them. I agree the Sox gave it to them, but now that they are in they figure to wake up. They got the starting pitching and the big money players to get on a roll. They got good fans as well. -
This is the utter opposite of the feeling I had in 2005. As happy as I was then I am as mad/sad now. This is what it feels like to follow a team that totally collapses without a whimper. Sad.

White Sox: 6-12 vs. the Royals; 6-12 vs. the Tigers. Epic failure. Total collapse. Team should be ashamed of itself. You can change managers all you want; you can't change the White Sox performance in September. Chokers. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) If your offense is scoring 4 runs or less for 13 STRAIGHT GAMES your pitchers are going to be put in enough pressure situations that they are inevitably going to fail in several of them. Pitchers don't have 0.00 ERAs. They give up runs. In order to win games, the offense has to build leads so that those runs don't decide the game. It's all mental. Tonight points out again how the team just can't play when the pressure is on. No pressure tonight, so voila ... 11 runs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) Or they might decide they like winning it all so much they want to bring in Josh Hamilton in the offseason? For me, I hope they lose every game in the postseason in pathetic fashion. They are a very unlikable team this year. Why? If they get eliminated early, they might have the hunger next year. The way I see it, victory formula for the Sox has to include Detroit getting fattened up this postseason. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 03:14 AM) Please explain that logic. That was reserved for the Cubs with their flip flop 90 win 90 loss seasons. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 03:18 AM) This post is f***ing insane. If Detroit wins it all, it may not have the hunger to do it again. We got to win the division and to do that, we need Detroit to underachieve again like it did this year. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 02:59 AM) I don't know who to root for in the playoffs. I am an American League fan, but I hate Texas with a passion, I always thought undue praise was given to Billy Beane while KW was ignored, so I don't really care for the A's, the Yanks are the Yanks and I have a burning seething hatred for the Texas Rangers. I know I probably should root for Detroit, but f*** the Tigers and their 2000lbs middle lineup. Maybe I'll go for the Orioles since they don't have Luke Scott anymore. I'll root for Detroit. The longer they play, the more innings for Verlander, et. all. Also the more they win, the more they might have a letdown next year. To win the division, we are going to need a replay of this year out of Detroit. No way in hell we'll win enough for a wild card so we gotta win the division. GO DETROIT!!!! -

I've been spot on in my predictions of each of the last four series. In this one I said we'd win 2 of 3 since the series is meaningless. I'm a little iffy on that now because Detroit hasn't clinched it yet officially. So technically Sox could still be all tight and nervous at the plate again tonight since technically they are still in it. I'll stick with Sox winning 2 of 3 just because they like to mess with our minds like that. But I could see them losing tonight just to finish the choke job in style. Maybe lose tonight and win the final two. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) It's probably more of a collapse brought upon the offense by the rest of the offense putting the pressure too much on themselves to fill the gaping hole left by Dunn and Konerko for large stretches of the 2nd half. AJP cooled down and probably played too much the first half (his defense until a 2-3 game stretch recently was just about atrocious), Rios couldn't carry the team all by himself, Alexei forgot how to hit with RISP and Youk was beaten down by injuries and a mystifying inability to hit against the Tigers or hit on the road, period. Beckham and Viciedo were hot and cold, hot and cold, but never consistent performers for an extended stretch. We need Dayan to put up better numbers than Crede and Uribe typically provided to be a really good team. Then you have the fact that Peavy, Sale, Quintana and a lot of the rookies in the bullpen were pushed harder than they've ever been. One thing is clear. This team was gassed and while we could have hoped with our hearts, the likelihood of a 2000 or 2008 post-season was pretty high. Still, it would have been a better reward and gotten us an extra $5-10 million in revenue, more season ticket renewals, etc. That said, it's pretty hard to make an argument that we'll be better and DET will be worse next year. That's a large part of the disappointment and frustration, knowing this was THE best opportunity until probably the 2015 season. And those pesky Royals have to start putting it together at some point, pitching-wise. Great great post. As it stands today the future looks very dim. That's as of TODAY. Things could change of course.

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) no, here's a fact; September is Buehrle's worst month throughout his career. It's the month with his highest ERA and WHIP. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...t=p#month_extra How was he going to help this team win by posting a 4.22 ERA when we can't score runs? It's not like the guy was lights out. Maybe if we got Crede, Rowand, and Dye back too we could 2005 our way back to the playoffs? Mark is a big-game pitcher. Sox staff desperately needed somebody just like him. How can you guys disagree? Peavy mighta been that guy. He sucked when needed vs. the Tigers. KW paid for that blunder IMO.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) You're right, Buehrle's always been a great second half pitcher. Oh wait, that's completely false. I try to use facts as well. Fact: Our pitchers couldn't go more than five innings for the final couple weeks of the season. Fact: Buehrle could have done so. Fact: Buehrle could have mentored our young pitchers who desperately needed help late. The fact is the Sox couldn't afford to pay another guy cause of all that money going to Rios and Dunn and Peavy. Too bad. Cause I will always believe we are in the playoffs if mark is on our team! I think the much hyped Coop did a s***ty job the last month mentoring this staff. s***ty. And bad use of pitchers as well.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) I wouldnt use that word...IMO losing a 3 game lead when your team is injury riddled doesnt equal a choke. With all due respect, I don't see all the sox love of late. It's time to give them a runnerup award I guess. Thanks for trying, White Sox.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) It was not "a few dollars". It was a stupid contract. It was about paying a soft tossing lefty $18 and $19 million at ages 35 and 36. This soft tossing lefty will pitch forever (if he wants to), just like Moyer. Nobody addresses me saying he earns double salary for being a coach on the field as well. He sets a great example, working fast, moving the ball around. Many of our pitchers got torched in September.
