At least the Royals did the noble thing and beat Detroit like they beat the Sox. Detroit looked human tonight. f*** you, Detroit.

Is Hawk one of the all time greats?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 10:58 PM) And yet, you are questioning the peoples opinions who dont like him. Strange You seem to be in a weird mood. It's a message board; people throw out their opinions then others counter attack. It's the way of the Internet world. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 02:53 AM) I don't hate Hawk the person. I hate Hawk's broadcasts as they increasingly get worse year to year. How can you say that? His broadcasts are so entertaining it's beyond belief ... IMO.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 02:17 AM) I wonder if things go bad this week if Hawk will criticize Ventura/Cooper for reshuffling the rotation in order to ensure the main guys face Detroit. I don't think they should get blamed, but a week ago, he was very much against it. Did they really do that? That is truly asinine. You don't reshuffle pitching to face Detroit. All games count the same. This road trip has the makings of a really bad one as the bad Sox are emerging again after the nice winning streak at home. Axelrod isn't going to win so we figure to be 0-3 then trying to avoid the sweep. Then comes the impending disaster at Detroit. Yikes.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 02:50 AM) I just say it with less drama than you, but I don't have money riding on them. Here's a hint bet the Sox at home now don't bet them on the road. Boy ain't that the truth. Suddenly we suck on the road and are awesome at home. Like fathom said, very weird season.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) Yes. The 'say what you will' line is bush league, as well as the 'cheap' comment. Romney probably donates more than Wolf makes, and to causes other than the church. Would Wolf lend a guy the money to buy a house he was renting? Not many people on any side would. Thanks for responding Alpha Dog. For some reason people tend to ignore a lot of my questions. Romney does deserve respect this week. If Wolf doesn't want to cover the convention he shouldn't be there.

Obamanation Re-election MegaThread
I don't want Romney anywhere near the White House it goes without saying. But my question to you is ... after four more years of Obama do you seriously believe ... a.) Our country will be better off than it is right now. b.) Our country will be way way worse than it is right now. c.) Things will be the same as they are today. d.) Our country will be in the worse shape economically it has ever been in and the morale of the people will be the lowest it has ever been entering the 2016 election. I'm thinking it's d.

Is Hawk one of the all time greats?
I think some of the people who hate Hawk are like people who hate certain movie critics. Everybody thinks they can do better. Uh, not quite. It's a talent and Hawk has talent IMO.

I have a sneaky feeling Detroit will win 2 of 3 without a sweat and likely take all 3 vs. the Royals. This could be a crucial time for Detroit. They maul KC while we face a tough team in Baltimore.

Is Hawk one of the all time greats?
To those of you Hawk haters, I just want to ask you if you prefer other teams' boring, vanilla, equally homerish crews that pervade baseball? There's a perception Hawk is a homer and everybody else out there isn't a homer. That's bunk. All these TV and radio crews are full of homers except for greats like Scully. "An A-bomb ... by A-Rod." Ugh. Just as bad as Hawk's lines. And the guy singing, "the Grandy Man can." I get the feeling a lot of people on this board think they know baseball better than Hawk. He knows so much more than all of you (and me) it's not even funny. I love his style and his knowledge and Stone isn't half bad, either. Steve Physioc of the Royals and his color man Rex Hudler are total homers and very very very boring. Sox fans are so spoiled with the great Hawk. s***, Farmer and DJ are homers, too. I like them as well.

The Republican Thread
Do you guys agree with me, though, that that is childish and bushleague of Wolf Blitzer (is that his real name?) to actually comment on a harmless interview with the Romney kids right after it is over by saying, "Say what you want about Romney, but he has a good family" and laugh at one of his kids calling Mitt frugal and Wolf saying, "that means he's cheap." Wolf had a look of disgust on his face that suggested he really didn't want any part of making Romney look legitimate and not somebody who'll be steamrolled by his beloved Obama.

Is Hawk one of the all time greats?
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) He is-innovative, copied, entertaining, and has opinionated insights about the way the game is played that actually create thought when you are watching. "It's all good." Great post. I agree. Hawk is amazingly good. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) No. This is about as slippery a slope as you can create. I don't think it's a slippery slope to do it your way and be true to yourself. I'd like your take on corporate suck ups. Those who do not do it their way and suck up just to get promoted. I'd rather be true to myself and make a good living and do what I think is right than suck up and do things I don't believe in and make a few more dollars. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 06:01 PM) I liked him when I was 12, but I'm a grown man now. Hawk Harrelson is so much better than other broadcast teams. People say he's a homer. You think the other broadcast teams aren't full of homers? They just do it in a much more boring way. Hawk will be missed when he quits.

8/27 White Sox at Orioles
Hilarious how nobody is screaming about all our blown saves. Make you realize Jenks wasn't so bad after all. I mean my god, how many games has the White Sox bullpen blown??? It ain't easy to close out games but this is ridiculous.

The Republican Thread
LOL after watching CNN coverage of an interview with the Romney kids. Wolf Blitzer, with an obvious look of disgust on his face, called Romney "cheap" then told some story of how he shops at Costco. My god. He didn't even try to hide it. The media is so upset they have to go to the Republican convention. They would NEVER rip Obama like that. Never. Hilarious. Also immediately after the interview with the boys, Wolf said, "Say what you want about Romney, he has a great family." He had to add, "say what you want about Romney" Hilarious bias.

Boston beats KC 3 of 4 after Tampa beat KC two of three. Yes, KC still sucks. Will the White Sox man up and beat them in a series next time??

8/27 White Sox at Orioles
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:53 AM) Bobby Jenks isn't on this team anymore. Owned. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:59 AM) Ventura is Brett Myers? I'm not a big Myers fan. He's just another average reliever. Good sometimes; s*** sometimes. Blah. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 03:20 AM) Most definitely, the umpire might have cost the Sox two runs with the non 3rd strike to McLouth and the Reynolds ball 4. That's why I love Hawk ranting about the umps. Baseball umpires suck, pure and simple. They have abused the strike zone. It's so small that no pitcher can avoid the dreaded walk. Mama don't let your boys take the mound. Any other position til umpires decide to stop this bulls*** and call the strike zone the way it's designed to be called. I hate umps. Hopefully Hawk will keep blasting them!

2012 MLB Catch All thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) http://deadspin.com/kansas-city-royals/ Greg775 behind this letter? Possible, but doubtful. It would have had to include praise for the beating the first place White Sox 8 of 12 times this season. Why are u so obsessed with the fact I'm incensed the Royals are kicking our ass when they can't beat anybody else? Sox are 4-8 vs. KC. If that goes up to 4-14 we will not make the playoffs.

Tyler Flowers
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Back to reality folks What's wrong with .347? Tank doesn't walk either, and nobody on here seems to mind.

Tyler Flowers
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Now Greg will never ever ever ever ever let go. Tyler has his first Soxtalk defender. I don't think I'll turn on the guy because he has produced pretty well in very very limited duty. I guess he could be another Brian Anderson like somebody said, but he's a pretty good backup right now. He prolly deserves a chance to start somewhere. Trade him to the Padres or somebody for some pitching just to let Tyler play?

Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Nick Punto to LAD
I guess sports teams are recession/depression proof. Maybe total attendance doesn't mean squat with TV throwing so much money around.

2012 AL Central Catch-All thread
Royals have lost 4 of 6 since sweeping the Sox. Pitching has reverted back to s*** and the team is playing bad baseball again with Escobar today making a big error. Team couldn't hit the ball in the Tampa series, either. Butler, Mr. Fastball hitter, struck out four times today, including his last at bat on a fastball. A lousy Boston team completes the series with three wins in four tries barely breaking a sweat.

Tyler Flowers
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 03:48 AM) His bat is looking shorter and quicker every time he plays. Granted Millwood isn't overpowering but I liked what I saw today. I'd like to see a list of the pitchers he has hit this year. So what would you do next year Greg? Can they both stay, happy to go for back to back titles? I think if AJ signs a two-year deal we should trade Flowers and give him a chance to start somewhere. Of course at AJ's age, injury is a possibility and Tyler would be great insurance. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 05:04 AM) he hits two home runs. greg declares him a good player. no news here. Wrong. I am not knee jerk as evidenced as my unpopular stances on certain players. I just have been impressed with a lot of his at bats this year. I think given 300-500 at bats, you'd probably see some good production. And he's very good defensively. I think you have me confused with somebody else, Reddy. I am not knee jerk in my opinions on players.
-
Tyler Flowers
Folks, Tyler Flowers has proven to me he can play in the big leagues. With limited at bats, he's still managed to pop six home runs and he's good on defense. It's not his fault he's blocked by the great AJP. Sad thing is AJP figures to sign another 2 year deal with the Sox, blocking Tyler further. This is not a rip of AJP. I want AJ to stay. I just want to see if you agree with me ... Tyler Flowers is a big-league catcher. He is not a bust.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 01:38 AM) Team of destiny. It doesn't have that feel yet. We can't get swept by Detroit again. I guess at this point I'd take 1-2 in that series and only lose a game to them.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Hope Hector but betting Humber. Please no Humber. He simply can't beat a team like the Tigers. He'll get crushed. Hector might as well but he just might keep us in the game.
