  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 02:05 AM) Even though the Sox have way more HR during the season KC out homering Sox head to head. I think KC is last in all of baseball in HRs. No matter what happens tonight, I hope nobody has posts praising Guthrie. Please spare us. If he shuts us down, it's all on the Sox. The guy is trash pitcher. 3-12 or something?
  2. The Royals have played great against the Sox even with Hosmer sucking big-time. Scary to think how bad we'd be against them if he could hit. Aza with a two out hit. will he be running?
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) I don't understand why the Sox are willing to give away so many AB's with Viciedp in such a tight race in August. Who do you want to play in his place? He is the Sox left fielder this year for better or worse. His style of hitting is really maddening, though, when he is not going well which this year is a good chunk of the time.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Of course you didn't. But my point is, even when Dunn is good he goes through periods in which he appears to be the worst player in baseball. As much as I'm tempted to blast a guy who is hitting .205 and is setting all kind of strikeout records, I can't. I don't know his WAR or anything, but my eyes tell me he's been responsible for so many victories the Sox would be sucking without him. Same with Rios and AJ. And Paulie the first half was responsible for a lot of wins. Youk the second half has been. Same with Reed's closing. He's been exceptional. So I will try all season not to blast guys who are responsible for the Sox being in the race. I do think we are gonna run out of gas badly, however. Detroit will win the division and there are a buncha teams vying for the WCs. I think we can sneak in and get the second WC. Hope I'm wrong and we win the division. Sox deserve a team grade of A at this point of season.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Guthrie threw a quality start his last time out. Of course, that was one of only 2 or 3 he has thrown all year... He is crap. Hopefully even Hudson can hit this guy. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) I can't believe all the whining that is done on this site, especially in the game threads. It's called the Internet. That's what goes on on the Internet. People act completely different than they way they act in real life cause they can use fake names and don't have to print their real addresses and real names. -- Hope we can win with the weird lineup. Rios has to sit cause of his back. DeAza also has a bad back. Morel out with a bad back. Youk has had back issues. Danks out for season. Peavy refuses to be taken out of games further risking injury in his comeback season. ... Paulie's wrist arguably wrecked or 60 percent .... Can our players hold up?
  6. If we lose this game tonight, we need a whole new approach versus KC. Guthrie can't get ANYBODY OUT. KC pitchers excel against us and SUCK vs. literally everybody else.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) You have to understand...they think they did nothing wrong. They think Paterno did nothing wrong. Whoever they blame, whether it's McQueary, or Spanier/Curley, they think the university did nothing wrong, they think Penn State football did nothing wrong, and most importantly Paterno did nothing wrong. The Freeh report was either totally one-sided or biased or poorly researched or lies or whatever excuse they're making. It's really a perfect example of a "football culture" gone awry, gone to the extreme, which is exactly why the NCAA stepped in. This really is troubling. With Penn State appealing, it's time for the NCAA to call them on it. Go ahead and hold a trial or hearing and give them much worse penalties. It's like this at all schools with powerhouse football or basketball programs. No fans will ever believe their school did anything wrong. Or if they did, and the coaches who did the wrong doing have left, they'll always use the argument you are penalizing people that did nothing wrong.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 04:31 AM) This is coming more from the new posters and not the veterans, but people need to realize this is baseball, any team can beat anyone on any given day period. Also, chances are that this each team will lose at least 60 games. I'm in no way making an excuse for their performance but chances are we won't win them all. Go Sox. The problem is our season-series record against KC. It's 4-4 now and there's no reason to believe we'll dominate the series at all the rest of the season.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:10 AM) It might have been different in the context of the full interview but when I saw her quotes after being asked about it, she didn't really seem to care all that much and she was pretty dismissive of it. She said "I'm gonna wear my hair like that next time I compete so they might as well stop talking about it" Her coach in USA Today after today's lousy Gabby performance ... Karolyi said all the attention Douglas received after winning the all-around gold was too overwhelming. "She's a young girl," Karolyi said. "She wasn't in the limelight before so it was too much too quick. She wasn't able to focus the same." It shocks me they don't shield the athletes more. She had a lot of events remaining after winning the all-around. I think she was a victim of Tweet-world. There can't be that much media allowed into the village.
  10. So this guy was about to try to kill a batch of people. It would have been the third such tragedy of this kind in a few weeks. Things are going to hell in our country. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_new...r#ixzz22tFb0gWX
  11. I'd have loved to see somebody in the pen save Jake tonight. Do any of you think it's a two-year problem of Jake being Verlander and refusing to come out of games? Not all pitchers can go 7 or 8 every night, once in a while a manager or pitching coach should deserve the right to come out and save a pitcher. Jake won't allow it to happen. He gets so pissed when pulled (f*** he was still MAD he got pulled when he did tonight) that managers leave him in to work out of his own jams. Granted, Jake works out of them a lot, but we kind of gave away the game tonight leaving him in too long. Do we play the Royals 9 more times? If so, you just know it's gonna be 5-4 or 4-5. We need a 7-2 run vs. KC.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:59 AM) peavy looks pissed he was pulled That's cause he was pissed. You can't pull Jake Peavy out of a game and it's a bad situation the last 2 years. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 02:01 AM) +10000 It's ridiculous how overused he's been. You pretty much never see a manager leave their starter in if they allow 4 hits in the 7th inning of a game. Nobody has the guts to pull Jake. He gets too pissed! QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 02:02 AM) robin has to learn to tell peavy that hes the f***ing manager and he has to go sit his ass on the bench....he lets peavy talk him into more pitches way too often Easier said than done. You can't take out the bulldog.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) Sox are 17-7 vs. MIN & CLE. Detroit is 10-11 against MIN & CLE Blah blah blah blah Sox-KC games are rarely blowouts. They give the Sox a game almost every time the two step on the field.
  14. That game really stunk tonight, at least the seventh inning on. I love Jake Peavy don't get me wrong. But it's difficult for that guy to every be bailed out of games by his bullpen because of his refusal to come out of games. He doesn't give Coop or Robin a chance to rescue him in an inning because he won't come out. I know a lot of times he pitches out of late jams, but let's just say tonight Coop had a feeling it was time to get jake out of there after one hit in the seventh inning instead of the fourth or fifth hit?? It was too late to save Jake. Am I right or wrong on this one?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Uh, no. She's 16 years old. She seemed genuinely upset about it and all the attention. She should have stayed off Twitter until she was finished with the Games. Her performance since the hair flap was horrific. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) What did she do with her hair? Nothing. She wore it back like all the US gymnasts but for some reason people on Twitter didn't like it and blasted her. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 12:45 AM) Twitter is awesome for news. Its really a social media site more than a social network site. I guess, but a lot of misinformation is out there. "Media" members trying to get scoops put lies up there. I guess if you check Twitter enough you can find the actual information but a lot of bloggers trying to be sports writers put up misinformation. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:31 AM) Re: Gabby Douglas There were, naturally, people on Twitter who post their mediocre-to-God-awfully-stupid thoughts in real time for the whole world to see. This is pretty routine, and sometimes reaches a fever pitch in response to certain events - ask Jay Cutler. So the usual amounts of people that say stupid s*** all the time made comments about Gabby's hair. This really shouldn't have been that big of a deal, HOWEVER I have seen FAR MORE attention dedicated to shouting down that original (limited) crowd of trolls, and this is pretty much the only reason the "controversy" is still going. On my Facebook I see more of those "stop talking about her hair!" posts than posts actually congratulating her on her gold medal. I love your first sentence. Awesome writing!

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Twitter: Don't use. Don't see the point in it. Facebook: Very handy, especially if you don't live near a lot of your friends/family. Good venue for sharing photos and information. Also handy for organizing events. Edit: Not sure why this is in Filibuster instead of just SLaM. Cause I didn't know how to put it in Slam.

    Twitter/Facebook

Hey can you help me out? I got in a big argument over Twitter/Facebook because I think it is sad so many anonymous assholes on Twitter blasted Gabby Douglas for her hair, so much so it may have affected her performance the past couple days. I personally HATE the anonymous Internet. It disgusts me. I am all for every website making users use their real names. Yes, even this one. If we had to represent ourselves officially we all would post differently I'm sure. So tell me, do you use Twitter? Do you use Facebook? Give me your opinions of both. My opinion Twitter: I hate the fact you can anonymously go on there and blast people like Gabby Douglas. You say things you WOULD NEVER say to a person's face. I used it a bit but think it is a waste of time. It reminds me of comments sections on articles on the internet. The dregs of society gets on there and blasts away at the writer, the content of the story, everybody and anything. Facebook: It amuses me but I rarely post on it. If you do post on there, family members tend to get on there and say all sorts of dumb things. I have never posted a picture on facebook; lots of people do all the time. I think anonymity is helping ruin society and making it so full of hate.
  18. Just when you think Beckham is no good he hits a big bomb. To those of you who said the Indians would eventually tank, man you were right. Season is so damn long. There was a time I thought the Indians were mighty pesky and would stick around.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 02:21 AM) I agree. Dunn needs to take a few days off. Maybe PH is all I was stunned tonight when the graphic said Dunn was hitting .202. Dunn arguably is one of the most productive hitters in baseball this year. I never thought I'd like a guy who was hitting .202, but I like Dunn this season ... a lot.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Here is what I am personally doing. My girlfriend and I have been living together for three years. I am not getting married until gay couples have the same right. I believe any couple who allows the government to determine if they are married is agreeing with the government's definition of marriage. That is my protest. If you took out a marriage license and got married, aren't you agreeing with the government's position? Isn't it ironic to have people saying it is wrong *and* going out and participating by having the government ok their marriage? Kind of like crusading about illegal drug use while being an illegal drug user? Or wearing a wedding ring while saying the government's position is wrong. My Church, The Chapel by the Sea hires a pastor. He is our only employee. We are a one location community with about 50 year round members. What would you like us to do? If you wanted national publicity for this, you'd get it. It's a commendable stance. I will say, though, the liberal media would put you on all the national shows. It's like the 3 Stooges Sit in Strike only they wanted to marry the 3 girls not wait. All you'd have to do is email whoever is the new Oprah and you are on.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) There's not going to be an "All out assault" on this type of crime any time during this type of election season. Yes, but if we have another one of these soon, it's like a national crisis will be upon us.
  22. I saw Sarah Palin on a commercial tonight backing some Missouri Senate candidate and I about puked. She said "maverick" and some of her other catch phrases. She is repulsive. And I am a Republican.
  23. I would think the media coverage of this incident will not be as great as the Colorado massacre. These things usually happen with a great amount of time between the first incident and second. These came so close together.... Because of that fact, this should get even more coverage, but the shock value isn't here because of the recent Colorado tragedy. Do all you TV folks agree with this? I think if we have one more incident like this in the next couple weeks, Obama is going to have to have an all-out assault on this type of crime. Our country is in serious jeopardy, folks. These incidents are starting to occur with great frequency, signaling a huge problem with society and values of people today.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) The media is not liberal and they do not have an agenda to get Obama elected, and the fact that you just simply buy that because people repeat it is absolutely laughable. This will not be a landslide election. For one example, Pew keeps track of what they consider positive and negative stories about each candidate. Romney's coverage has, for the last year, been much more positive and much less negative than Obama's. Romney's coverage has been more positive than negative for almost the entire year save one stretch in early February when Santorum was coating everything, while Obama's coverage has been more negative than positive for the entire last year. This isn't unexpected for an incumbent, but it belies any concept that the liberal media is in the tank for Obama. Balta you are way smarter about me than politics. But you think it will not be a landslide election? Come on. It is going to be the biggest rout in the history of elections. Will Romney win one state? Of course. Kansas always goes Republican, but that wlll basically be it. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Yeah, great, I get that he's saying that. Which of the vaunted competitors for Romney in the primaries would have been this remarkably strong candidate? Rick "I forgot which cabinet department I want to get rid of" Perry? Michelle "McCarthy" Bachmann? Herman "hmmmm, Libya...Libya..." Cain? Rick "Google problem" Santorum? Newt "I don't need a funny name to tell you how bad he is of a candidate" Gingrich? Donald Trump? Ron Paul? p.s. When the "Obama coverage" remains just about as negative through the end of the race, which it will except for the week of the convention because he is the incumbent, it won't even be worth noting, because you know in your heart the media want Obama and nothing can change that. By voting day, Romney will be considered a buffoon after the media is through with him compared to their beloved Obama. I tell you, the Republicans should have gone with a woman or African American candidate. It would have made it much tougher for the liberal media to attack them.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 01:40 AM) Yeah, exactly. There is no way to even speculate on most of these guys at this point. A lot depends on a potential postseason run. A Championship would change everything. If the Sox somehow made the WS, everything would indeed change. The Sox would be a legitimate baseball power, making it twice since 2005. It would give the Sox a chance to reinvent itself again, to stave off that dumb rebuilding notion for a long time. Cmon Sox, keep it rolling.
