Jerry talked tough to Mark saying he wasn't worth that kind of money at this stage of his career? I wonder what Jerry thought of Rios' deal and Dunn's deal last year. Not many players are "worth" the exact dollar figures they get. It's all relative.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PIRANHA CLEAN SWEEP!!!

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) and they had four days off the previous week. Exactly. Detroit just looked like the superior team in all facets. Nice bounce back series vs. Minnesota to take all three. Usually we just win two of three when we're playing well, so that's a nice bonus to take them all. -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:29 AM) Enough with the "nutcase and wacky" comments. The guy has an anxiety disorder and that is not his fault. He's a supremely talented athlete and among the best in the world at what he does in spite of his psychological condition. Give it a rest already. Gee, sorry. I've met Greinke and I like him personally. But he is a very wacky person. There's no way telling what team he'll pick in free agency or why he'll pick that team. I prefer to not give up so much for an unpredictable personality as Greinke. Is that saying it nicer? In the lastest "Franchise" thread somebody called a certain Marlin, "God this man is a delusional arrogant prick." That's worse than what I called Zach.

Like or hate Ozzie, this is a special clip. Manager talking to prima donna closer; i love the part when he tells Bell that nobody wants him on the mound, not the owner, not his wife, nobody except Ozzie. Cool stuff to get to see on TV.

Can we merge this into the Miami Marlins thread please?

Hawk is so great. Some day some of you will get what you want, some dull homer like Steve Physioc of the Royals or those clown teams I hear on mlb.com. Hawk is a gem. A treasure. He's an A-plus announcer. GO HAWK! JOE CREDE!!! What a call that was.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:36 AM) I think the offer may be along the lines of Floyd, Mitchell, and Jones/Reed. I don't know if that could get it done though. The Brewers could pick up Floyd's option, get a legit prospect in Mitchell, and receive some much needed bullpen help. I don't know if Jones can develop into a closer but he's probably already as good as Axford and K rod are right now. So we would be giving away a big leaguer starter, a first round draft pick and a highly touted closer in Reed for a guy who will not sign with us this offseason. wow. That trade should get Kenny run out of town if Greinke doesn't re-sign. Greinke is not worth the gamble; I'm telling you, he is wacky.

I can see why a team would want him for the rest of the season but to give up a lot for a rental? Idiotic. Greinke is a nutcase as well. I'd trade for him, but it will be sad if the Sox have to give up Tank or somebody who actually might make it big in the bigs. Would they take Beckham and Danks' brother for him?

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) The cubs are fire selling too. Beckham, a top product, humber, another prospect To chicago for starling castro. Comes in and plays second. If Beckham has any value at all, I'd trade him and begin the parade of journeymen second basemen. It's not a critical position. There's no way Beckham is going to be a star, so get something for him this winter and bring in Grudzelanik types (I realize he's retired) or Getz fill in types. Let somebody else try to get Beckham to use a smaller bat and become a singles, doubles hitter. I think Beckham's another Betancourt/Lillibridge type guy who thinks he's a power bat when he's not.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) That's an oversimplification. He's had some hits and some misses. Quentin, Ramirez, Podsednik, Iguchi, Pierzynski were all excellent acquisitions by Williams. Don't you dare praise Podsednik on this board. That is not allowed by all his haters/mockers (greenish).

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) Good inning Septimo Septimo could be a key for this team in September IMO.

We better beat Texas Friday with Sale cause Humber has no chance Saturday. That'll be 11-0 early. Is that another Fox game that we're going to get mauled in?
-
So in retrospect, Dunn had one horrible season and is back to being Dunn. I applaud those of you who insisted this is what would happen. The question is now: Has Dunn earned every penny of the contract because of this incredible season? I'm starting to think he's been worth the contract. As far as Rios ... when do you get to the point to say he's earned every penny as well?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Beckham's swing makes it look like he carries a heavy bat. Looks like he struggles to get the bat around. Lilly did the same thing; stupid.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Should be Peavy's last inning. You think Jake will demand to go 7? Three innings is a lot to turn over to this pen.

Glad to see the Sox racking up some wins at the Cell again.

Damn, that little baby in the crowd didn't even have a hat. Hope the baby doesn't get fried. It seems like it's not wise to have a baby in the sun for this long on a 95 degree day.

This is why you cannot trade Tank. He has Pujols-like potential. There's just no way you can trade a hitter with so much upside.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) I'm loving Hawk's "It's ALL GOOD!" home run calls.. Kind of a nice addition to his repertoire Edit: Looks like I'm alone in this.... I like it. It's amazing how much new stuff a 70 year old guy can keep coming up with. He's the best in the business except for Scully.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Lol man the Twins suck. I wonder how Gardy will last... He and Ned Yost should flip flop jobs for a month; they both are managing a lot of bad players.
-
I don't know how Rios did it but he has turned into a monster hitter. This is not a flame at anybody, but I can't understand how this team isn't running away with the division with the seasons Dunn, Paulie, Rios, Sale, AJ are having. These guys are having monster seasons.
-
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) So I received multiple texts from people saying Hawk said Beckham's mom turns 39 today? That can't be right... Can anyone confirm what age he said? QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) When women get to be 40 and over, its common to say they are turning 39 on their birthday. Just don't do it when they are turning 29. Yep, it was Hawk's compliment.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) 2 years ago, if the Sox were 1.5 games out of first and had 11 or 12 games left with Minnesota with around 70 to play, the season was OVA. Minnesota is horrible, and probably will be horrible for several years. Good. What happened to the Twins in a nutshell?
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I'm amazed people can still defend Beckham offensively at this point. What player are you watching? He hits .250. Like somebody said in the other thread he's like a 1960s ball player, great field with a blah .250 average. .250 is better than .190, though, so he'll probably stick in the majors for 20 years as a glove guy.
-
When the Twins were beating the Sox every year and making the playoffs only to get killed by the Yankees, I never imagined that team would turn into this.
